KJV 1 And Joseph fell upon his father's face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.

VULC 1 Quod cernens Joseph, ruit super faciem patris, flens et deosculans eum.

WLC 1 וַיִּפֹּ֥ל יוֹסֵ֖ף עַל־ פְּנֵ֣י אָבִ֑יו וַיֵּ֥בְךְּ עָלָ֖יו וַיִּשַּׁק־ לֽוֹ׃

KJV 2 And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.

VULC 2 Præcepitque servis suis medicis ut aromatibus condirent patrem.

WLC 2 וַיְצַ֨ו יוֹסֵ֤ף אֶת־ עֲבָדָיו֙ אֶת־ הָרֹ֣פְאִ֔ים לַחֲנֹ֖ט אֶת־ אָבִ֑יו וַיַּחַנְט֥וּ הָרֹפְאִ֖ים אֶת־ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV 3 And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days.

VULC 3 Quibus jussa explentibus, transierunt quadraginta dies : iste quippe mos erat cadaverum conditorum : flevitque eum Ægyptus septuaginta diebus.

WLC 3 וַיִּמְלְאוּ־ לוֹ֙ אַרְבָּעִ֣ים י֔וֹם כִּ֛י כֵּ֥ן יִמְלְא֖וּ יְמֵ֣י הַחֲנֻטִ֑ים וַיִּבְכּ֥וּ אֹת֛וֹ מִצְרַ֖יִם שִׁבְעִ֥ים יֽוֹם׃

KJV 4 And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,

VULC 4 Et expleto planctus tempore, locutus est Joseph ad familiam Pharaonis : Si inveni gratiam in conspectu vestro, loquimini in auribus Pharaonis :

WLC 4 וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ֙ יְמֵ֣י בְכִית֔וֹ וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר יוֹסֵ֔ף אֶל־ בֵּ֥ית פַּרְעֹ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר אִם־ נָ֨א מָצָ֤אתִי חֵן֙ בְּעֵ֣ינֵיכֶ֔ם דַּבְּרוּ־ נָ֕א בְּאָזְנֵ֥י פַרְעֹ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV 5 My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.

VULC 5 eo quod pater meus adjuraverit me dicens : En morior : in sepulchro meo, quod fodi mihi in terra Chanaan, sepelies me. Ascendam igitur, et sepeliam patrem meum, ac revertar.

WLC 5 אָבִ֞י הִשְׁבִּיעַ֣נִי לֵאמֹ֗ר הִנֵּ֣ה אָנֹכִי֮ מֵת֒ בְּקִבְרִ֗י אֲשֶׁ֨ר כָּרִ֤יתִי לִי֙ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ כְּנַ֔עַן שָׁ֖מָּה תִּקְבְּרֵ֑נִי וְעַתָּ֗ה אֶֽעֱלֶה־ נָּ֛א וְאֶקְבְּרָ֥ה אֶת־ אָבִ֖י וְאָשֽׁוּבָה׃

KJV 6 And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.

VULC 6 Dixitque ei Pharao : Ascende, et sepeli patrem tuum sicut adjuratus es.

WLC 6 וַיֹּ֖אמֶר פַּרְעֹ֑ה עֲלֵ֛ה וּקְבֹ֥ר אֶת־ אָבִ֖יךָ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר הִשְׁבִּיעֶֽךָ׃

KJV 7 And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,

VULC 7 Quo ascendente, ierunt cum eo omnes senes domus Pharaonis, cunctique majores natu terræ Ægypti :

WLC 7 וַיַּ֥עַל יוֹסֵ֖ף לִקְבֹּ֣ר אֶת־ אָבִ֑יו וַיַּֽעֲל֨וּ אִתּ֜וֹ כָּל־ עַבְדֵ֤י פַרְעֹה֙ זִקְנֵ֣י בֵית֔וֹ וְכֹ֖ל זִקְנֵ֥י אֶֽרֶץ־ מִצְרָֽיִם׃

KJV 8 And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father's house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.

VULC 8 domus Joseph cum fratribus suis, absque parvulis, et gregibus atque armentis, quæ dereliquerant in terra Gessen.

WLC 8 וְכֹל֙ בֵּ֣ית יוֹסֵ֔ף וְאֶחָ֖יו וּבֵ֣ית אָבִ֑יו רַ֗ק טַפָּם֙ וְצֹאנָ֣ם וּבְקָרָ֔ם עָזְב֖וּ בְּאֶ֥רֶץ גֹּֽשֶׁן׃

KJV 9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.

VULC 9 Habuit quoque in comitatu currus et equites : et facta est turba non modica.

WLC 9 וַיַּ֣עַל עִמּ֔וֹ גַּם־ רֶ֖כֶב גַּם־ פָּרָשִׁ֑ים וַיְהִ֥י הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖ה כָּבֵ֥ד מְאֹֽד׃

KJV 10 And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.

VULC 10 Veneruntque ad Aream Atad, quæ sita est trans Jordanem : ubi celebrantes exequias planctu magno atque vehementi impleverunt septem dies.

WLC 10 וַיָּבֹ֜אוּ עַד־ גֹּ֣רֶן הָאָטָ֗ד אֲשֶׁר֙ בְּעֵ֣בֶר הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן וַיִּ֨סְפְּדוּ־ שָׁ֔ם מִסְפֵּ֛ד גָּד֥וֹל וְכָבֵ֖ד מְאֹ֑ד וַיַּ֧עַשׂ לְאָבִ֛יו אֵ֖בֶל שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִֽים׃

KJV 11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abelmizraim, which is beyond Jordan.

VULC 11 Quod cum vidissent habitatores terræ Chanaan, dixerunt : Planctus magnus est iste Ægyptiis. Et idcirco vocatum est nomen loci illius, Planctus Ægypti.

WLC 11 וַיַּ֡רְא יוֹשֵׁב֩ הָאָ֨רֶץ הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֜י אֶת־ הָאֵ֗בֶל בְּגֹ֙רֶן֙ הָֽאָטָ֔ד וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ אֵֽבֶל־ כָּבֵ֥ד זֶ֖ה לְמִצְרָ֑יִם עַל־ כֵּ֞ן קָרָ֤א שְׁמָהּ֙ אָבֵ֣ל מִצְרַ֔יִם אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּעֵ֥בֶר הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃

KJV 12 And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them:

VULC 12 Fecerunt ergo filii Jacob sicut præceperat eis :

WLC 12 וַיַּעֲשׂ֥וּ בָנָ֖יו ל֑וֹ כֵּ֖ן כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּֽם׃

KJV 13 For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.

VULC 13 et portantes eum in terram Chanaan, sepelierunt eum in spelunca duplici, quam emerat Abraham cum agro in possessionem sepulchri ab Ephron Hethæo, contra faciem Mambre.

WLC 13 וַיִּשְׂא֨וּ אֹת֤וֹ בָנָיו֙ אַ֣רְצָה כְּנַ֔עַן וַיִּקְבְּר֣וּ אֹת֔וֹ בִּמְעָרַ֖ת שְׂדֵ֣ה הַמַּכְפֵּלָ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר קָנָה֩ אַבְרָהָ֨ם אֶת־ הַשָּׂדֶ֜ה לַאֲחֻזַּת־ קֶ֗בֶר מֵאֵ֛ת עֶפְרֹ֥ן הַחִתִּ֖י עַל־ פְּנֵ֥י מַמְרֵֽא׃

KJV 14 And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.

VULC 14 Reversusque est Joseph in Ægyptum cum fratribus suis, et omni comitatu, sepulto patre.

WLC 14 וַיָּ֨שָׁב יוֹסֵ֤ף מִצְרַ֙יְמָה֙ ה֣וּא וְאֶחָ֔יו וְכָל־ הָעֹלִ֥ים אִתּ֖וֹ לִקְבֹּ֣ר אֶת־ אָבִ֑יו אַחֲרֵ֖י קָבְר֥וֹ אֶת־ אָבִֽיו׃

KJV 15 And when Joseph's brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.

VULC 15 Quo mortuo, timentes fratres ejus, et mutuo colloquentes : Ne forte memor sit injuriæ quam passus est, et reddat nobis omne malum quod fecimus,

WLC 15 וַיִּרְא֤וּ אֲחֵֽי־ יוֹסֵף֙ כִּי־ מֵ֣ת אֲבִיהֶ֔ם וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ ל֥וּ יִשְׂטְמֵ֖נוּ יוֹסֵ֑ף וְהָשֵׁ֤ב יָשִׁיב֙ לָ֔נוּ אֵ֚ת כָּל־ הָ֣רָעָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר גָּמַ֖לְנוּ אֹתֽוֹ׃

KJV 16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,

VULC 16 mandaverunt ei dicentes : Pater tuus præcepit nobis antequam moreretur,

WLC 16 וַיְצַוּ֕וּ אֶל־ יוֹסֵ֖ף לֵאמֹ֑ר אָבִ֣יךָ צִוָּ֔ה לִפְנֵ֥י מוֹת֖וֹ לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV 17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.

VULC 17 ut hæc tibi verbis illius diceremus : Obsecro ut obliviscaris sceleris fratrum tuorum, et peccati atque malitiæ quam exercuerunt in te : nos quoque oramus ut servis Dei patris tui dimittas iniquitatem hanc. Quibus auditis flevit Joseph.

WLC 17 כֹּֽה־ תֹאמְר֣וּ לְיוֹסֵ֗ף אָ֣נָּ֡א שָׂ֣א נָ֠א פֶּ֣שַׁע אַחֶ֤יךָ וְחַטָּאתָם֙ כִּי־ רָעָ֣ה גְמָל֔וּךָ וְעַתָּה֙ שָׂ֣א נָ֔א לְפֶ֥שַׁע עַבְדֵ֖י אֱלֹהֵ֣י אָבִ֑יךָ וַיֵּ֥בְךְּ יוֹסֵ֖ף בְּדַבְּרָ֥ם אֵלָֽיו׃

KJV 18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.

VULC 18 Veneruntque ad eum fratres sui : et proni adorantes in terram, dixerunt : Servi tui sumus.

WLC 18 וַיֵּלְכוּ֙ גַּם־ אֶחָ֔יו וַֽיִּפְּל֖וּ לְפָנָ֑יו וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ הִנֶּ֥נּֽוּ לְךָ֖ לַעֲבָדִֽים׃

KJV 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

VULC 19 Quibus ille respondit : Nolite timere : num Dei possumus resistere voluntati ?

WLC 19 וַיֹּ֧אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֛ם יוֹסֵ֖ף אַל־ תִּירָ֑אוּ כִּ֛י הֲתַ֥חַת אֱלֹהִ֖ים אָֽנִי׃

KJV 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

VULC 20 Vos cogitastis de me malum : sed Deus vertit illud in bonum, ut exaltaret me, sicut in præsentiarum cernitis, et salvos faceret multos populos.

WLC 20 וְאַתֶּ֕ם חֲשַׁבְתֶּ֥ם עָלַ֖י רָעָ֑ה אֱלֹהִים֙ חֲשָׁבָ֣הּ לְטֹבָ֔ה לְמַ֗עַן עֲשֹׂ֛ה כַּיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּ֖ה לְהַחֲיֹ֥ת עַם־ רָֽב׃

KJV 21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

VULC 21 Nolite timere : ego pascam vos et parvulos vestros : consolatusque est eos, et blande ac leniter est locutus.

WLC 21 וְעַתָּה֙ אַל־ תִּירָ֔אוּ אָנֹכִ֛י אֲכַלְכֵּ֥ל אֶתְכֶ֖ם וְאֶֽת־ טַפְּכֶ֑ם וַיְנַחֵ֣ם אוֹתָ֔ם וַיְדַבֵּ֖ר עַל־ לִבָּֽם׃

KJV 22 And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father's house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.

VULC 22 Et habitavit in Ægypto cum omni domo patris sui : vixitque centum decem annis. Et vidit Ephraim filios usque ad tertiam generationem. Filii quoque Machir filii Manasse nati sunt in genibus Joseph.

WLC 22 וַיֵּ֤שֶׁב יוֹסֵף֙ בְּמִצְרַ֔יִם ה֖וּא וּבֵ֣ית אָבִ֑יו וַיְחִ֣י יוֹסֵ֔ף מֵאָ֥ה וָעֶ֖שֶׂר שָׁנִֽים׃

KJV 23 And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph's knees.

VULC 23 Quibus transactis, locutus est fratribus suis : Post mortem meam Deus visitabit vos, et ascendere vos faciet de terra ista ad terram quam juravit Abraham, Isaac et Jacob.

WLC 23 וַיַּ֤רְא יוֹסֵף֙ לְאֶפְרַ֔יִם בְּנֵ֖י שִׁלֵּשִׁ֑ים גַּ֗ם בְּנֵ֤י מָכִיר֙ בֶּן־ מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה יֻלְּד֖וּ עַל־ בִּרְכֵּ֥י יוֹסֵֽף׃

KJV 24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

VULC 24 Cumque adjurasset eos atque dixisset : Deus visitabit vos, asportate ossa mea vobiscum de loco isto :

WLC 24 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יוֹסֵף֙ אֶל־ אֶחָ֔יו אָנֹכִ֖י מֵ֑ת וֵֽאלֹהִ֞ים פָּקֹ֧ד יִפְקֹ֣ד אֶתְכֶ֗ם וְהֶעֱלָ֤ה אֶתְכֶם֙ מִן־ הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֔את אֶל־ הָאָ֕רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִשְׁבַּ֛ע לְאַבְרָהָ֥ם לְיִצְחָ֖ק וּֽלְיַעֲקֹֽב׃

KJV 25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.

VULC 25 mortuus est, expletis centum decem vitæ suæ annis. Et conditus aromatibus, repositus est in loculo in Ægypto.

WLC 25 וַיַּשְׁבַּ֣ע יוֹסֵ֔ף אֶת־ בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר פָּקֹ֨ד יִפְקֹ֤ד אֱלֹהִים֙ אֶתְכֶ֔ם וְהַעֲלִתֶ֥ם אֶת־ עַצְמֹתַ֖י מִזֶּֽה׃

KJV 26 So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

WLC 26 וַיָּ֣מָת יוֹסֵ֔ף בֶּן־ מֵאָ֥ה וָעֶ֖שֶׂר שָׁנִ֑ים וַיַּחַנְט֣וּ אֹת֔וֹ וַיִּ֥ישֶׂם בָּאָר֖וֹן בְּמִצְרָֽיִם׃
