KJV ² My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

LSG ² Mes frères, regardez comme un sujet de joie complète les diverses épreuves auxquelles vous pouvez être exposés,

KJV ³ Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

LSG ³ sachant que l'épreuve de votre foi produit la patience.

KJV ⁴ But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

LSG ⁴ Mais il faut que la patience accomplisse parfaitement son oeuvre, afin que vous soyez parfaits et accomplis, sans faillir en rien.

KJV ⁵ If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

LSG ⁵ Si quelqu'un d'entre vous manque de sagesse, qu'il la demande à Dieu, qui donne à tous simplement et sans reproche, et elle lui sera donnée.

KJV ⁶ But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

LSG ⁶ Mais qu'il l'a demande avec foi, sans douter ; car celui qui doute est semblable au flot de la mer, agité par le vent et poussé de côté et d'autre.

KJV ⁷ For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

LSG ⁷ Qu'un tel homme ne s'imagine pas qu'il recevra quelque chose du Seigneur:

KJV ⁸ A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

LSG ⁸ c'est un homme irrésolu, inconstant dans toutes ses voies.

KJV ⁹ Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

LSG ⁹ Que le frère de condition humble se glorifie de son élévation.

KJV ¹⁰ But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

LSG ¹⁰ Que le riche, au contraire, se glorifie de son humiliation ; car il passera comme la fleur de l'herbe.

KJV ¹¹ For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

LSG ¹¹ Le soleil s'est levé avec sa chaleur ardente, il a desséché l'herbe, sa fleur est tombée, et la beauté de son aspect a disparu: ainsi le riche se flétrira dans ses entreprises.

KJV ¹² Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

LSG ¹² Heureux l'homme qui supporte patiemment la tentation ; car, après avoir été éprouvé, il recevra la couronne de vie, que le Seigneur a promise à ceux qui l'aiment.

KJV ¹³ Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

LSG ¹³ Que personne, lorsqu'il est tenté, ne dise: C'est Dieu qui me tente. Car Dieu ne peut être tenté par le mal, et il ne tente lui-même personne.

KJV ¹⁴ But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

LSG ¹⁴ Mais chacun est tenté quand il est attiré et amorcé par sa propre convoitise.

KJV ¹⁵ Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

LSG ¹⁵ Puis la convoitise, lorsqu'elle a conçu, enfante le péché ; et le péché, étant consommé, produit la mort.

KJV ¹⁶ Do not err, my beloved brethren.

LSG ¹⁶ Ne vous y trompez pas, mes frères bien-aimés:

KJV ¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

LSG ¹⁷ toute grâce excellente et tout don parfait descendent d'en haut, du Père des lumières, chez lequel il n'y a ni changement ni ombre de variation.

KJV ¹⁸ Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

LSG ¹⁸ Il nous a engendrés selon sa volonté, par la parole de vérité, afin que nous soyons en quelque sorte les prémices de ses créatures.

KJV ¹⁹ Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

LSG ¹⁹ Sachez-le, mes frères bien-aimés. Ainsi, que tout homme soit prompt à écouter, lent à parler, lent à se mettre en colère ;

KJV ²⁰ For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

LSG ²⁰ car la colère de l'homme n'accomplit pas la justice de Dieu.

KJV ²¹ Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

LSG ²¹ C'est pourquoi, rejetant toute souillure et tout excès de malice, recevez avec douceur la parole qui a été planté en vous, et qui peut sauver vos âmes.

KJV ²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

LSG ²² Mettez en pratique la parole, et ne vous bornez pas à l'écouter, en vous trompant vous-mêmes par de faux raisonnements.

KJV ²³ For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

LSG ²³ Car, si quelqu'un écoute la parole et ne la met pas en pratique, il est semblable à un homme qui regarde dans un miroir son visage naturel,

KJV ²⁴ For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

LSG ²⁴ et qui, après s'être regardé, s'en va, et oublie aussitôt quel il était.

KJV ²⁵ But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

LSG ²⁵ Mais celui qui aura plongé les regards dans la loi parfaite, la loi de la liberté, et qui aura persévéré, n'étant pas un auditeur oublieux, mais se mettant à l'oeuvre, celui-là sera heureux dans son activité.

KJV ²⁶ If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

LSG ²⁶ Si quelqu'un croit être religieux, sans tenir sa langue en bride, mais en trompant son coeur, la religion de cet homme est vaine.

KJV ²⁷ Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

LSG ²⁷ La religion pure et sans tache, devant Dieu notre Père, consiste à visiter les orphelins et les veuves dans leurs afflictions, et à se préserver des souillures du monde.

KJV ¹ My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

LSG ¹ Mes frères, que votre foi en notre glorieux Seigneur Jésus Christ soit exempte de toute acception de personnes.

KJV ² For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

LSG ² Supposez, en effet, qu'il entre dans votre assemblée un homme avec un anneau d'or et un habit magnifique, et qu'il y entre aussi un pauvre misérablement vêtu ;

KJV ³ And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

LSG ³ si, tournant vos regards vers celui qui porte l'habit magnifique, vous lui dites: Toi, assieds-toi ici à cette place d'honneur ! et si vous dites au pauvre: Toi, tiens-toi là debout ! ou bien: Assieds-toi au-dessous de mon marche-pied,

KJV ⁴ Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

LSG ⁴ ne faites vous pas en vous-mêmes une distinction, et ne jugez-vous pas sous l'inspiration de pensées mauvaises ?

KJV ⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

LSG ⁵ Écoutez, mes frères bien-aimés: Dieu n'a-t-il pas choisi les pauvres aux yeux du monde, pour qu'ils soient riches en la foi, et héritiers du royaume qu'il a promis à ceux qui l'aiment ?

KJV ⁶ But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

LSG ⁶ Et vous, vous avilissez le pauvre ! Ne sont-ce pas les riches qui vous oppriment, et qui vous traînent devant les tribunaux ?

KJV ⁷ Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

LSG ⁷ Ne sont-ce pas eux qui outragent le beau nom que vous portez ?

KJV ⁸ If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

LSG ⁸ Si vous accomplissez la loi royale, selon l'Écriture: Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même, vous faites bien.

KJV ⁹ But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

LSG ⁹ Mais si vous faites acception de personnes, vous commettez un péché, vous êtes condamnés par la loi comme des transgresseurs.

KJV ¹⁰ For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

LSG ¹⁰ Car quiconque observe toute la loi, mais pèche contre un seul commandement, devient coupable de tous.

KJV ¹¹ For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

LSG ¹¹ En effet, celui qui a dit: Tu ne commettras point d'adultère, a dit aussi: Tu ne tueras point. Or, si tu ne commets point d'adultère, mais que tu commettes un meurtre, tu deviens transgresseur de la loi.

KJV ¹² So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

LSG ¹² Parlez et agissez comme devant être jugés par une loi de liberté,

KJV ¹³ For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

LSG ¹³ car le jugement est sans miséricorde pour qui n'a pas fait miséricorde. La miséricorde triomphe du jugement.

KJV ¹⁴ What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

LSG ¹⁴ Mes frère, que sert-il à quelqu'un de dire qu'il a la foi, s'il n'a pas les oeuvres ? La foi peut-elle le sauver ?

KJV ¹⁵ If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

LSG ¹⁵ Si un frère ou une soeur sont nus et manquent de la nourriture de chaque jour,

KJV ¹⁶ And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

LSG ¹⁶ et que l'un d'entre vous leur dise: Allez en paix, chauffez-vous et vous rassasiez ! et que vous ne leur donniez pas ce qui est nécessaire au corps, à quoi cela sert-il ?

KJV ¹⁷ Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

LSG ¹⁷ Il en est ainsi de la foi: si elle n'a pas les oeuvres, elle est morte en elle-même.

KJV ¹⁸ Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

LSG ¹⁸ Mais quelqu'un dira: Toi, tu as la foi ; et moi, j'ai les oeuvres. Montre-moi ta foi sans les oeuvres, et moi, je te montrerai la foi par mes oeuvres.

KJV ¹⁹ Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

LSG ¹⁹ Tu crois qu'il y a un seul Dieu, tu fais bien ; les démons le croient aussi, et ils tremblent.

KJV ²⁰ But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

LSG ²⁰ Veux-tu savoir, ô homme vain, que la foi sans les oeuvres est inutile ?

KJV ²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

LSG ²¹ Abraham, notre père, ne fut-il pas justifié par les oeuvres, lorsqu'il offrit son fils Isaac sur l'autel ?

KJV ²² Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

LSG ²² Tu vois que la foi agissait avec ses oeuvres, et que par les oeuvres la foi fut rendue parfaite.

KJV ²³ And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

LSG ²³ Ainsi s'accomplit ce que dit l'Écriture: Abraham crut à Dieu, et cela lui fut imputé à justice ; et il fut appelé ami de Dieu.

KJV ²⁴ Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

LSG ²⁴ Vous voyez que l'homme est justifié par les oeuvres, et non par la foi seulement.

KJV ²⁵ Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

LSG ²⁵ Rahab la prostituée ne fut-elle pas également justifiée par les oeuvres, lorsqu'elle reçut les messagers et qu'elle les fit partir par un autre chemin ?

KJV ²⁶ For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

LSG ²⁶ Comme le corps sans âme est mort, de même la foi sans les oeuvres est morte.

KJV ¹ My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

LSG ¹ Mes frères, qu'il n'y ait pas parmi vous un grand nombre de personnes qui se mettent à enseigner, car vous savez que nous serons jugés plus sévèrement.

KJV ² For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

LSG ² Nous bronchons tous de plusieurs manières. Si quelqu'un ne bronche point en paroles, c'est un homme parfait, capable de tenir tout son corps en bride.

KJV ³ Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

LSG ³ Si nous mettons le mors dans la bouche des chevaux pour qu'ils nous obéissent, nous dirigeons aussi leur corps tout entier.

KJV ⁴ Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

LSG ⁴ Voici, même les navires, qui sont si grands et que poussent des vents impétueux, sont dirigés par un très petit gouvernail, au gré du pilote.

KJV ⁵ Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

LSG ⁵ De même, la langue est un petit membre, et elle se vante de grandes choses. Voici, comme un petit feu peut embraser une grande forêt.

KJV ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

LSG ⁶ La langue aussi est un feu ; c'est le monde de l'iniquité. La langue est placée parmi nos membres, souillant tout le corps, et enflammant le cours de la vie, étant elle-même enflammée par la géhenne.

KJV ⁷ For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

LSG ⁷ Toutes les espèces de bêtes et d'oiseaux, de reptiles et d'animaux marins, sont domptés et ont été domptés par la nature humaine ;

KJV ⁸ But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

LSG ⁸ mais la langue, aucun homme ne peut la dompter ; c'est un mal qu'on ne peut réprimer ; elle est pleine d'un venin mortel.

KJV ⁹ Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

LSG ⁹ Par elle nous bénissons le Seigneur notre Père, et par elle nous maudissons les hommes faits à l'image de Dieu.

KJV ¹⁰ Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

LSG ¹⁰ De la même bouche sortent la bénédiction et la malédiction. Il ne faut pas, mes frères, qu'il en soit ainsi.

KJV ¹¹ Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

LSG ¹¹ La source fait-elle jaillir par la même ouverture l'eau douce et l'eau amère ?

KJV ¹² Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

LSG ¹² Un figuier, mes frères, peut-il produire des olives, ou une vigne des figues ? De l'eau salée ne peut pas non plus produire de l'eau douce.

KJV ¹³ Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

LSG ¹³ Lequel d'entre vous est sage et intelligent ? Qu'il montre ses oeuvres par une bonne conduite avec la douceur de la sagesse.

KJV ¹⁴ But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

LSG ¹⁴ Mais si vous avez dans votre coeur un zèle amer et un esprit de dispute, ne vous glorifiez pas et ne mentez pas contre la vérité.

KJV ¹⁵ This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

LSG ¹⁵ Cette sagesse n'est point celle qui vient d'en haut ; mais elle est terrestre, charnelle, diabolique.

KJV ¹⁶ For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

LSG ¹⁶ Car là où il y a un zèle amer et un esprit de dispute, il y a du désordre et toutes sortes de mauvaises actions.

KJV ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

LSG ¹⁷ La sagesse d'en haut est premièrement pure, ensuite pacifique, modérée, conciliante, pleine de miséricorde et de bons fruits, exempte de duplicité, d'hypocrisie.

KJV ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

LSG ¹⁸ Le fruit de la justice est semé dans la paix par ceux qui recherchent la paix.
