BCC ² Ne voyez qu'un sujet de joie, mes frères, dans les épreuves de toute sorte qui tombent sur vous ;

KJV ² My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

BCC ³ sachant que l'épreuve de votre foi produit la patience.

KJV ³ Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

BCC ⁴ Mais que la patience soit accompagnée d'oeuvres parfaites, afin que vous soyez parfaits et accomplis, ne laissant à désirer en rien.

KJV ⁴ But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

BCC ⁵ Si la sagesse fait défaut à quelqu'un d'entre vous, qu'il la demande à Dieu, lequel donne à tous simplement, sans rien reprocher ; et elle lui sera donnée.

KJV ⁵ If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

BCC ⁶ Mais qu'il demande avec foi, sans hésiter ; car celui qui hésite est semblable au flot de la mer, agité et ballotté par le vent.

KJV ⁶ But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

BCC ⁷ Que cet homme-là ne pense donc pas qu'il recevra quelque chose du Seigneur :

KJV ⁷ For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

BCC ⁸ homme à deux âmes, inconstant dans toutes ses voies.

KJV ⁸ A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

BCC ⁹ Que le frère pauvre se glorifie de son élévation.

KJV ⁹ Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

BCC ¹⁰ Et que le riche mette sa gloire dans son abaissement ; car il passera comme l'herbe fleurie :

KJV ¹⁰ But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

BCC ¹¹ le soleil s'est levé brûlant, et il a desséché l'herbe, et sa fleur est tombée, et toute sa beauté a disparu ; de même aussi le riche se flétrira avec ses entreprises.

KJV ¹¹ For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

BCC ¹² Heureux l'homme qui supportera l'épreuve ! Devenu un homme éprouvé, il recevra la couronne de vie que Dieu a promise à ceux qui l'aiment.

KJV ¹² Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

KJV ¹³ Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

BCC ¹⁴ Mais chacun est tenté par sa propre convoitise, qui l'amorce et l'entraîne.

KJV ¹⁴ But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

BCC ¹⁵ Ensuite la convoitise, lorsqu'elle a conçu, enfante le péché, et le péché, lorsqu'il est consommé, engendre la mort.

KJV ¹⁵ Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

BCC ¹⁶ Ne vous abusez pas, mes frères bien-aimés.

KJV ¹⁶ Do not err, my beloved brethren.

BCC ¹⁷ Tout don excellent, toute grâce parfaite, descend d'en haut, du Père des lumières, en qui n'existe aucune vicissitude, ni ombre de changement.

KJV ¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

BCC ¹⁸ De sa propre volonté, il nous a engendrés par la parole de la vérité, afin que nous soyons comme les prémices de ses créatures.

KJV ¹⁸ Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

BCC ¹⁹ Mes frères bien-aimés, vous le savez, que l'homme soit prompt à écouter, lent à parler, lent à se mettre en colère.

KJV ¹⁹ Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

BCC ²⁰ Car la colère de l'homme n'opère point la justice de Dieu.

KJV ²⁰ For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

BCC ²¹ C'est pourquoi, rejetant toute souillure et toute excroissance de méchanceté, recevez avec douceur la parole qui a été entée en vous, et qui peut sauver vos âmes.

KJV ²¹ Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

BCC ²² Mais efforcez-vous de la mettre en pratique, et ne vous contentez pas de l'écouter, en vous abusant vous-mêmes par de faux raisonnements.

KJV ²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

BCC ²³ Car, si quelqu'un écoute la parole et ne l'observe pas, il est semblable à un homme qui regarde dans un miroir le visage qu'il tient de la nature :

KJV ²³ For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

BCC ²⁴ à peine s'est-il considéré, qu'il s'en est allé, oubliant aussitôt quel il était.

KJV ²⁴ For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

BCC ²⁵ Celui, au contraire, qui fixe son regard sur la loi parfaite, la loi de liberté, et qui l'y tient attaché, n'écoutant pas pour oublier aussitôt, mais pratiquant ce qu'il a entendu, celui-là trouvera son bonheur en l'accomplissant.

KJV ²⁵ But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

BCC ²⁶ Si quelqu'un s'imagine être religieux sans mettre un frein à sa langue, il s'abuse lui-même et sa religion est vaine.

KJV ²⁶ If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

BCC ²⁷ La religion pure et sans tache devant notre Dieu et Père, n'est pas autre qu'avoir soin des orphelins et des veuves dans leur détresse, et se préserver pur des souillures de ce monde.

KJV ²⁷ Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

BCC ¹ Mes frères, n'alliez aucune acception de personnes avec la foi en Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur de gloire.

KJV ¹ My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.

BCC ² Si, par exemple, il entre dans votre assemblée un homme qui ait un anneau d'or et un vêtement magnifique, et qu'il y entre aussi un pauvre avec un habit sordide ;

KJV ² For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;

BCC ³ et que tournant vos regards vers celui qui est magnifiquement vêtu, vous lui disiez : "Vous, asseyez-vous ici, à cette place d'honneur", et que vous disiez au pauvre : "Toi, tiens-toi là debout, ou assieds-toi ici, au bas de mon marchepied :"

KJV ³ And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:

BCC ⁴ n'est-ce pas faire entre vous des distinctions, et vous établir juges aux pensées perverses ?

KJV ⁴ Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?

BCC ⁵ Ecoutez, mes frères bien-aimés : Dieu n'a-t-il pas choisi ceux qui sont pauvres aux yeux du monde, pour être riches dans la foi et héritiers du royaume qu'Il a promis à ceux qui l'aiment ?

KJV ⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

BCC ⁶ Et vous, vous faites affront au pauvre ! Ne sont-ce pas les riches qui vous oppriment et qui vous traînent devant les tribunaux ?

KJV ⁶ But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

BCC ⁷ Ne sont-ce pas eux qui outragent le beau nom que vous portez ?

KJV ⁷ Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

BCC ⁸ Que si vous accomplissez la loi royale, selon ce passage de l'Ecriture : "Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même" vous faites bien.

KJV ⁸ If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

BCC ⁹ Mais si vous faites acception des personnes, vous commettez un péché, et la loi elle-même vous condamne comme transgresseurs.

KJV ⁹ But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

BCC ¹⁰ Car quiconque aura observé toute la loi, s'il vient à faillir en un seul point, est coupable de tous.

KJV ¹⁰ For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

BCC ¹¹ En effet, celui qui a dit : "Tu ne commettras point d'adultère", a dit aussi : "Tu ne tueras point." Si donc tu tues, quoique tu ne commettes point d'adultère, tu es transgresseur de la loi.

KJV ¹¹ For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

BCC ¹² Parlez et agissez comme devant être jugés par la loi de liberté.

KJV ¹² So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

KJV ¹⁴ What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

BCC ¹⁵ Si un frère ou une soeur sont dans la nudité et n'ont pas ce qui leur est nécessaire chaque jour de nourriture, et que l'un de vous leur dise :

KJV ¹⁵ If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

BCC ¹⁶ "Allez en paix, chauffez-vous et vous rassasiez" sans leur donner et qui est nécessaire à leur corps, à quoi cela sert-il ?

KJV ¹⁶ And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

BCC ¹⁷ Il en est de même de la foi : si elle n'a pas les oeuvres, elle est morte en elle-même.

KJV ¹⁷ Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

BCC ¹⁸ Mais on pourrait même dire : "Tu as la foi, et moi, j'ai les oeuvres."Montre-moi ta foi sans les oeuvres et moi, je te montrerai ma foi par mes oeuvres.

KJV ¹⁸ Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

BCC ¹⁹ Tu crois qu'il y a un seul Dieu, tu fais bien ; les démons le croient aussi..., et ils tremblent !

KJV ¹⁹ Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

BCC ²⁰ Mais veux-tu te convaincre, ô homme vain, que la foi sans les ouvres est sans vertu ?

KJV ²⁰ But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

BCC ²¹ Abraham, notre père, ne fut-il pas justifié par les oeuvres, lorsqu'il offrit son fils Isaac sur l'autel ?

KJV ²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

BCC ²² Tu vois que la foi coopérait à ses oeuvres, et que par les oeuvres, sa foi fut rendue parfaite.

KJV ²² Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

BCC ²³ Et la parole de l'Ecriture s'accomplit : "Abraham crut à Dieu, et cela lui fut imputé à justice", et il fut appelé ami de Dieu.

KJV ²³ And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

BCC ²⁴ Vous voyez que l'homme est justifié par les oeuvres, et non par la foi seulement.

KJV ²⁴ Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

BCC ²⁵ De même Rahab, la courtisane, ne fut-elle pas justifiée par les oeuvres, quand elle reçut les envoyés de Josué et les fit partir par un autre chemin ?

BCC ¹ Mes frères, qu'il n'y en ait pas tant parmi vous qui s'érigent en docteurs, sachant que nous serons jugés plus sévèrement.

KJV ¹ My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

BCC ² Car nous péchons tous en beaucoup de choses. Si quelqu'un ne pèche pas en parole, c'est un homme parfait, capable de tenir aussi tout le corps en bride.

KJV ² For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

BCC ³ Si nous mettons aux chevaux un mors dans la bouche pour nous en faire obéir, nous gouvernons aussi leur corps tout entier.

KJV ³ Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.

BCC ⁴ Voyez encore les vaisseaux tout grands qu'ils sont et quoique poussés par des vents impétueux, ils sont conduits par un très petit gouvernail au gré du pilote qui les dirige.

KJV ⁴ Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.

BCC ⁵ Ainsi la langue est un tout petit membre ; mais de quelles grandes choses elle peut se vanter ! Voyez, une étincelle peut embraser une grande forêt !

KJV ⁵ Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

BCC ⁶ La langue aussi est un feu, un monde d'iniquité. N'étant qu'un de nos membres, la langue est capable d'infecter tout le corps ; elle enflamme le cours de notre vie, enflammée qu'elle est elle-même du feu de l'enfer.

KJV ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

BCC ⁷ Toutes les espèces de quadrupèdes, d'oiseaux, de reptiles et d'animaux marins peuvent se dompter, et ont été domptés par l'homme.

KJV ⁷ For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:

BCC ⁸ Mais la langue, aucun homme ne peut la dompter : c'est un fléau qu'on ne peut arrêter ; elle est remplie d'un venin mortel.

KJV ⁸ But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

BCC ⁹ Par elle nous bénissons le Seigneur et notre Père, et par elle nous maudissons les hommes qui ont été faits à l'image de Dieu.

KJV ⁹ Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

BCC ¹⁰ De la même bouche sortent la malédiction et la bénédiction ! Il ne faut pas, mes frères, qu'il en soit ainsi.

KJV ¹⁰ Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

BCC ¹¹ Est-ce que de la même ouverture, la source fait jaillir le doux et l'amer ?

KJV ¹¹ Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

BCC ¹² Est-ce qu'un figuier, mes frères, peut produire des olives, ou la vigne des figues ? Ainsi une source salée ne peut donner de l'eau douce.

KJV ¹² Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

BCC ¹³ Qui parmi vous est sage et intelligent ? Qu'il fasse voir à l'oeuvre dans la suite d'une bonne vie sa modération et sa sagesse.

KJV ¹³ Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

BCC ¹⁴ Mais si vous avez dans vos coeurs un zèle amer et un esprit de dispute, ne vous glorifiez point et ne mentez point contre la vérité.

KJV ¹⁴ But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

BCC ¹⁵ Une pareille sagesse ne descend pas d'en haut ; elle est terrestre, charnelle, diabolique.

KJV ¹⁵ This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

BCC ¹⁶ Car là où il y a jalousie et esprit de contention, là est le trouble et toute action mauvaise.

KJV ¹⁶ For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

BCC ¹⁷ Alors la sagesse d'en haut est premièrement pure, ensuite pacifique, condescendante, traitable, pleine de miséricorde et de bons fruits, sans partialité, sans hypocrisie.

KJV ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

BCC ¹⁸ Le fruit de justice se sème dans la paix par ceux qui pratiquent la paix.

KJV ¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

BCC ¹ D'où viennent les guerres et les luttes parmi vous ? N'est-ce pas de vos passions qui combattent dans vos membres ?

KJV ¹ From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

BCC ² Vous convoitez, et vous n'avez pas ; vous êtes meurtriers, vous êtes jaloux, et vous n'arrivez pas à obtenir ; vous êtes dans un état de lutte et de guerre ; et vous n'obtenez pas, parce que vous ne demandez pas ;

KJV ² Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

BCC ³ vous demandez, et vous ne recevez pas, parce que vous demandez mal, avec l'intention de satisfaire vos passions.

KJV ³ Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

BCC ⁴ Adultères, ne savez-vous pas que l'amitié du monde c'est l'inimitié contre Dieu ? Quiconque veut être ami du monde se rend ennemi de Dieu.

KJV ⁴ Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

BCC ⁵ Ou bien pensez-vous que l'Ecriture dise en vain " C'est jusqu'à la jalousie que vous aime l'Esprit qu'il a mis en vous ? "

KJV ⁵ Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

BCC ⁶ Mais il donne une grâce d'autant plus grande, selon ce que dit l'Ecriture : " Dieu résiste aux orgueilleux, et il accorde sa grâce aux humbles. "

KJV ⁶ But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

BCC ⁷ Soumettez-vous donc à Dieu ; résistez au diable, et il s'enfuira de vous.

KJV ⁷ Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

BCC ⁸ Approchez-vous de Dieu, et il s'approchera de vous. Nettoyez vos mains, pécheurs ; purifiez vos coeurs, hommes à l'âme double.

KJV ⁸ Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

BCC ⁹ Sentez votre misère ; prenez le deuil, et pleurez que votre rire se change en pleurs, et votre joie en tristesse.

KJV ⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

BCC ¹⁰ Humiliez-vous devant le Seigneur, et il vous élèvera. Frères, ne dites point de mal les uns des autres.

KJV ¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

BCC ¹¹ Celui qui parle mal de son frère ou qui juge son frère, parle mal de la loi et juge la loi. Or, si tu juges la loi, tu n'es plus un observateur de la loi, mais tu t'en fais juge.

KJV ¹¹ Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

BCC ¹² Il n'y a qu'un seul législateur et qu'un seul juge, celui qui a la puissance de sauver et de perdre. Mais qui es-tu, toi qui juges le prochain ?

KJV ¹² There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

BCC ¹³ Eh bien donc vous qui dites : " Aujourd'hui ou demain nous irons dans telle ville, nous y séjournerons une année, nous trafiquerons, et nous ferons des profits",

KJV ¹³ Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

BCC ¹⁴ - vous qui ne savez pas ce qui arrivera demain ; - car qu'est-ce que votre vie ?

KJV ¹⁴ Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

BCC ¹⁵ Vous êtes une vapeur qui paraît un instant et s'évanouit ensuite : - au lieu de dire : "Si le Seigneur le veut", ou : "Si nous sommes en vie, nous ferons ceci ou cela."

KJV ¹⁵ For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

BCC ¹⁶ Mais maintenant vous vous vantez dans votre présomption. Toute jactance de cette sorte est mauvaise.

KJV ¹⁶ But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

BCC ¹⁷ Celui donc qui sait faire ce qui est bien et qui ne le fait pas, commet un péché.

KJV ¹⁷ Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

BCC ¹ A vous maintenant, riches ! Pleurez, éclatez en sanglots à la vue des misères qui vont fondre sur vous.

KJV ¹ Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

BCC ² Vos richesses sont pourries, et vos vêtements sont mangés des vers.

KJV ² Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

BCC ³ Votre or et votre argent sont rouillés, et leur rouille rendra témoignage contre vous, et comme un feu dévorera vos chairs. Vous avez thésaurisé dans les derniers jours !

KJV ³ Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

BCC ⁴ Voici qu'il crie contre vous, le salaire dont vous avez frustré les ouvriers qui ont fauché vos champs, et les cris des moissonneurs sont parvenus aux oreilles du Seigneur Sabaoth.

KJV ⁴ Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

BCC ⁵ Vous avez vécu sur la terre dans les délices et les festins ; vous avez été comme la victime qui se repaît le jour où on doit l'égorger.

KJV ⁵ Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

BCC ⁷ Prenez donc patience, mes frères, jusqu'à l'avènement du Seigneur. Voyez le laboureur, dans l'espérance du précieux fruit de la terre, attend patiemment jusqu'à ce qu'il reçoive la pluie de l'automne et celle du printemps.

KJV ⁷ Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
