²¹ C'est pourquoi, rejetant toute souillure et toute excroissance de méchanceté, recevez avec douceur la parole qui a été entée en vous, et qui peut sauver vos âmes. ²² Mais efforcez-vous de la mettre en pratique, et ne vous contentez pas de l'écouter, en vous abusant vous-mêmes par de faux raisonnements. ²³ Car, si quelqu'un écoute la parole et ne l'observe pas, il est semblable à un homme qui regarde dans un miroir le visage qu'il tient de la nature : ²⁴ à peine s'est-il considéré, qu'il s'en est allé, oubliant aussitôt quel il était. ²⁵ Celui, au contraire, qui fixe son regard sur la loi parfaite, la loi de liberté, et qui l'y tient attaché, n'écoutant pas pour oublier aussitôt, mais pratiquant ce qu'il a entendu, celui-là trouvera son bonheur en l'accomplissant.

²¹ Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. ²² But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. ²³ For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: ²⁴ For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. ²⁵ But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
