KJV ¹ Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

KJV ² So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins.

KJV ³ And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,

MAR ³ Et la parole de l'Eternel me fut [adressée] pour la seconde fois, en disant :

VULC ³ Et factus est sermo Domini ad me secundo, dicens :

WLC ³ וַיְהִ֧י דְבַר־ יְהוָ֛ה אֵלַ֖י שֵׁנִ֥ית לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV ⁴ Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

MAR ⁴ Prends la ceinture que tu as achetée, et qui est sur tes reins, et te lève, et t'en va vers l'Euphrate, et la cache là dans le trou d'un rocher.

VULC ⁴ Tolle lumbare quod possedisti, quod est circa lumbos tuos : et surgens vade ad Euphraten, et absconde ibi illud in foramine petræ.

WLC ⁴ קַ֧ח אֶת־ הָאֵז֛וֹר אֲשֶׁ֥ר קָנִ֖יתָ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל־ מָתְנֶ֑יךָ וְקוּם֙ לֵ֣ךְ פְּרָ֔תָה וְטָמְנֵ֥הוּ שָׁ֖ם בִּנְקִ֥יק הַסָּֽלַע׃

KJV ⁵ So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.

MAR ⁵ Je m'en allai donc, et la cachai dans l'Euphrate, comme l'Eternel m'avait commandé.

VULC ⁵ Et abii, et abscondi illud in Euphrate, sicut præceperat mihi Dominus.

WLC ⁵ וָאֵלֵ֕ךְ וָאֶטְמְנֵ֖הוּ בִּפְרָ֑ת כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר צִוָּ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה אוֹתִֽי׃

KJV ⁶ And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.

MAR ⁶ Et il arriva que plusieurs jours après l'Eternel me dit : lève-toi, et t'en va vers l'Euphrate, et reprends de là la ceinture que je t'avais commandé d'y cacher.

VULC ⁶ Et factum est post dies plurimos, dixit Dominus ad me : Surge, vade ad Euphraten, et tolle inde lumbare quod præcepi tibi ut absconderes illud ibi.

WLC ⁶ וַיְהִ֕י מִקֵּ֖ץ יָמִ֣ים רַבִּ֑ים וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗י ק֚וּם לֵ֣ךְ פְּרָ֔תָה וְקַ֤ח מִשָּׁם֙ אֶת־ הָ֣אֵז֔וֹר אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוִּיתִ֖יךָ לְטָמְנוֹ־ שָֽׁם׃

KJV ⁷ Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

MAR ⁷ Et je m'en allai vers l'Euphrate, je creusai ; et je repris la ceinture du lieu où je l'avais cachée, et voici, la ceinture était pourrie, et n'était plus bonne à rien.

KJV ⁸ Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

KJV ⁹ Thus saith the LORD, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

MAR ⁹ Ainsi a dit l'Eternel : je ferai ainsi pourrir l'orgueil de Juda, et le grand orgueil de Jérusalem.

Sic putrescere faciam superbiam Juda,

WLC ⁹ כֹּ֖ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֑ה כָּ֠כָה אַשְׁחִ֞ית אֶת־ גְּא֧וֹן יְהוּדָ֛ה וְאֶת־ גְּא֥וֹן יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם הָרָֽב׃

KJV ¹⁰ This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

MAR ¹⁰ [L'orgueil] de ce peuple très méchant, qui refusent d'écouter mes paroles, et qui marchent selon la dureté de leur coeur, et vont après d'autres dieux pour les servir, et pour se prosterner devant eux, tellement qu'il sera comme cette ceinture, qui n'est bonne à aucune chose.

VULC ¹⁰ populum istum pessimum qui nolunt audire verba mea,
et ambulant in pravitate cordis sui,
abieruntque post deos alienos ut servirent eis et adorarent eos :

KJV ¹¹ For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

KJV ¹² Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

KJV ¹³ Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

WLC ¹³ וְאָמַרְתָּ֨ אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם כֹּֽה־ אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה הִנְנִ֣י מְמַלֵּ֣א אֶת־ כָּל־ יֹשְׁבֵ֣י הָאָ֪רֶץ הַזֹּ֟את וְאֶת־ הַמְּלָכִ֣ים הַיֹּשְׁבִים֩ לְדָוִ֨ד עַל־ כִּסְא֜וֹ וְאֶת־ הַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים וְאֶת־ הַנְּבִיאִ֗ים וְאֵ֛ת כָּל־ יֹשְׁבֵ֥י יְרוּשָׁלִָ֖ם שִׁכָּרֽוֹן׃

KJV ¹⁴ And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.

MAR ¹⁴ Et je les briserai l'un contre l'autre, les pères et les enfants ensemble, dit l'Eternel, je n'en aurai point de compassion, je ne les épargnerai point, et je n'en aurai point de pitié pour ne les détruire point.

et patres et filios pariter, ait Dominus.
Non parcam, et non concedam :
neque miserebor, ut non disperdam eos.

KJV ¹⁵ Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken.

nolite elevari, quia Dominus locutus est.

KJV ¹⁶ Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

MAR ¹⁶ Donnez gloire à l'Eternel votre Dieu, avant qu'il fasse venir les ténèbres, et avant que vos pieds bronchent sur les montagnes dans lesquelles on ne voit pas clair ; vous attendrez la lumière, et il la changera en une ombre de mort, et la réduira en obscurité.

antequam contenebrescat,
et antequam offendant pedes vestri ad montes caliginosos :
exspectabitis lucem,

KJV ¹⁷ But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD's flock is carried away captive.

MAR ¹⁷ Que si vous n'écoutez ceci, mon âme pleurera en secret à cause de [votre] orgueil, et mon oeil versera des larmes en abondance, même il se fondra en larmes, parce que le troupeau de l'Eternel aura été emmené prisonnier.

in abscondito plorabit anima mea a facie superbiæ :
plorans plorabit,
et deducet oculus meus lacrimam,

KJV ¹⁸ Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory.

KJV ²⁰ Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

KJV ²¹ What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee? for thou hast taught them to be captains, and as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?

KJV ²² And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare.

MAR ²² Que si tu dis en ton coeur : pourquoi me sont arrivées ces choses ? C'est pour la grandeur de ton iniquité que tes habits ont été retroussés, [et] que tes talons ont été serrés de près.

propter multitudinem iniquitatis tuæ
revelata sunt verecundiora tua,
pollutæ sunt plantæ tuæ.

KJV ²³ Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

MAR ²³ Le More changerait-il sa peau, et le léopard ses taches ? pourriez-vous aussi faire quelque bien, vous qui n'êtes appris qu'à mal faire ?

VULC ²³ Si mutare potest Æthiops pellem suam,

KJV ²⁴ Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.

KJV ²⁶ Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear.

KJV ²⁷ I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, and thine abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?
