WLC ¹ אֲשֶׁ֨ר הָיָ֤ה דְבַר־ יְהוָה֙ אֶֽל־ יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ עַל־ דִּבְרֵ֖י הַבַּצָּרֽוֹת׃

DRB ² Juda mène deuil, et ses portes défaillent ; elles sont en deuil, par terre ; et le cri de Jérusalem est monté.

KJV ² Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem is gone up.

VULC ² [Luxit Judæa, et portæ ejus corruerunt,
et obscuratæ sunt in terra,
et clamor Jerusalem ascendit.

WLC ² אָבְלָ֣ה יְהוּדָ֔ה וּשְׁעָרֶ֥יהָ אֻמְלְל֖וּ קָדְר֣וּ לָאָ֑רֶץ וְצִוְחַ֥ת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם עָלָֽתָה׃

DRB ³ Et ses nobles ont envoyé à l'eau les* petits ; ils sont allés aux citernes, ils n'ont pas trouvé d'eau ; ils sont revenus, leurs vases vides ; ils ont eu honte, ils ont été confus, et ils ont couvert leur tête.

KJV ³ And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits, and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.

VULC ³ Majores miserunt minores suos ad aquam :
venerunt ad hauriendum.
Non invenerunt aquam :
reportaverunt vasa sua vacua.
Confusi sunt, et afflicti,
et operuerunt capita sua.

WLC ³ וְאַדִּ֣רֵיהֶ֔ם שָׁלְח֥וּ לַמָּ֑יִם בָּ֣אוּ עַל־ גֵּבִ֞ים לֹא־ מָ֣צְאוּ מַ֗יִם שָׁ֤בוּ כְלֵיהֶם֙ רֵיקָ֔ם בֹּ֥שׁוּ וְהָכְלְמ֖וּ וְחָפ֥וּ רֹאשָֽׁם׃

DRB ⁴ Parce que la terre est crevassée, parce qu'il n'y a point eu de pluie dans le pays, les cultivateurs sont honteux, ils ont couvert leur tête ;

KJV ⁴ Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.

VULC ⁴ Propter terræ vastitatem,
quia non venit pluvia in terram,
confusi sunt agricolæ :
operuerunt capita sua.

WLC ⁴ בַּעֲב֤וּר הָאֲדָמָה֙ חַ֔תָּה כִּ֛י לֹא־ הָיָ֥ה גֶ֖שֶׁם בָּאָ֑רֶץ בֹּ֥שׁוּ אִכָּרִ֖ים חָפ֥וּ רֹאשָֽׁם׃

DRB ⁵ car aussi la biche a mis bas dans les champs, et a abandonné [son faon], parce qu'il n'y a point d'herbe verte ;

KJV ⁵ Yea, the hind also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass.

VULC ⁵ Nam et cerva in agro peperit, et reliquit,
quia non erat herba.

WLC ⁵ כִּ֤י גַם־ אַיֶּ֙לֶת֙ בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה יָלְדָ֖ה וְעָז֑וֹב כִּ֥י לֹֽא־ הָיָ֖ה דֶּֽשֶׁא׃

DRB ⁶ et les ânes sauvages se sont tenus sur les hauteurs, ils ont humé l'air comme des chacals ; leurs yeux se sont consumés parce qu'il n'y a point d'herbe.

KJV ⁶ And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.

VULC ⁶ Et onagri steterunt in rupibus ;
traxerunt ventum quasi dracones :
defecerunt oculi eorum,
quia non erat herba.

WLC ⁶ וּפְרָאִים֙ עָמְד֣וּ עַל־ שְׁפָיִ֔ם שָׁאֲפ֥וּ ר֖וּחַ כַּתַּנִּ֑ים כָּל֥וּ עֵינֵיהֶ֖ם כִּי־ אֵ֥ין עֵֽשֶׂב׃

DRB ⁷ Éternel ! si nos iniquités rendent témoignage contre nous, agis à cause de ton nom ; car nos infidélités sont multipliées, nous avons péché contre toi.

KJV ⁷ O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name's sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee.

VULC ⁷ Si iniquitates nostræ responderint nobis, Domine,
fac propter nomen tuum :
quoniam multæ sunt aversiones nostræ :
tibi peccavimus.

WLC ⁷ אִם־ עֲוֺנֵ֙ינוּ֙ עָ֣נוּ בָ֔נוּ יְהוָ֕ה עֲשֵׂ֖ה לְמַ֣עַן שְׁמֶ֑ךָ כִּֽי־ רַבּ֥וּ מְשׁוּבֹתֵ֖ינוּ לְךָ֥ חָטָֽאנוּ׃

DRB ⁸ Attente d'Israël, celui qui le sauve au temps de la détresse ! pourquoi serais-tu comme un étranger dans le pays, comme un voyageur qui se détourne pour passer la nuit ?

KJV ⁸ O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night?

VULC ⁸ Exspectatio Israël,
salvator ejus in tempore tribulationis,
quare quasi colonus futurus es in terra,
et quasi viator declinans ad manendum ?

WLC ⁸ מִקְוֵה֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מֽוֹשִׁיע֖וֹ בְּעֵ֣ת צָרָ֑ה לָ֤מָּה תִֽהְיֶה֙ כְּגֵ֣ר בָּאָ֔רֶץ וּכְאֹרֵ֖חַ נָטָ֥ה לָלֽוּן׃

DRB ⁹ Pourquoi serais-tu comme un homme stupéfait, comme un homme fort qui ne peut sauver ? Toutefois tu es au milieu de nous, ô Éternel, et nous sommes appelés de ton nom ; ne nous délaisse pas !

KJV ⁹ Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.

VULC ⁹ quare futurus es velut vir vagus,
ut fortis qui non potest salvare ?
Tu autem in nobis es, Domine,
et nomen tuum invocatum est super nos :
ne derelinquas nos.

WLC ⁹ לָ֤מָּה תִֽהְיֶה֙ כְּאִ֣ישׁ נִדְהָ֔ם כְּגִבּ֖וֹר לֹא־ יוּכַ֣ל לְהוֹשִׁ֑יעַ וְאַתָּ֧ה בְקִרְבֵּ֣נוּ יְהוָ֗ה וְשִׁמְךָ֛ עָלֵ֥ינוּ נִקְרָ֖א אַל־ תַּנִּחֵֽנוּ׃

DRB ¹⁰ Ainsi dit l'Éternel à ce peuple : C'est ainsi qu'ils ont aimé à aller çà et là, ils n'ont pas retenu leurs pieds ; et l'Éternel ne prend point plaisir en eux : maintenant il se souviendra de leurs iniquités et il visitera leurs péchés.

KJV ¹⁰ Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.

VULC ¹⁰ Hæc dicit Dominus populo huic,
qui dilexit movere pedes suos,
et non quievit,
et Domino non placuit :
Nunc recordabitur iniquitatum eorum,
et visitabit peccata eorum.

WLC ¹⁰ כֹּֽה־ אָמַ֨ר יְהוָ֜ה לָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֗ה כֵּ֤ן אָֽהֲבוּ֙ לָנ֔וּעַ רַגְלֵיהֶ֖ם לֹ֣א חָשָׂ֑כוּ וַיהוָה֙ לֹ֣א רָצָ֔ם עַתָּה֙ יִזְכֹּ֣ר עֲוֺנָ֔ם וְיִפְקֹ֖ד חַטֹּאתָֽם׃

DRB ¹¹ Et l'Éternel me dit : Ne prie pas pour ce peuple pour leur bien.

KJV ¹¹ Then said the LORD unto me, Pray not for this people for their good.

VULC ¹¹ Et dixit Dominus ad me :
Noli orare pro populo isto in bonum.

WLC ¹¹ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה אֵלָ֑י אַל־ תִּתְפַּלֵּ֛ל בְּעַד־ הָעָ֥ם הַזֶּ֖ה לְטוֹבָֽה׃

DRB ¹² S'ils jeûnent, je n'écouterai pas leur cri, et s'ils offrent un holocauste et une offrande de gâteau, je ne les agréerai pas ; car je les consumerai par l'épée, et par la famine, et par la peste.

KJV ¹² When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.

VULC ¹² Cum jejunaverint,
non exaudiam preces eorum,
et si obtulerint holocautomata et victimas,
non suscipiam ea :
quoniam gladio, et fame, et peste consumam eos.]

WLC ¹² כִּ֣י יָצֻ֗מוּ אֵינֶ֤נִּי שֹׁמֵ֙עַ֙ אֶל־ רִנָּתָ֔ם וְכִ֧י יַעֲל֛וּ עֹלָ֥ה וּמִנְחָ֖ה אֵינֶ֣נִּי רֹצָ֑ם כִּ֗י בַּחֶ֙רֶב֙ וּבָרָעָ֣ב וּבַדֶּ֔בֶר אָנֹכִ֖י מְכַלֶּ֥ה אוֹתָֽם׃

DRB ¹³ Et je dis : Ah, Seigneur Éternel ! voici, les prophètes leur disent : Vous ne verrez pas l'épée, et la famine ne viendra* pas sur vous ; car je vous donnerai une vraie paix en ce lieu-ci.

KJV ¹³ Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.

VULC ¹³ Et dixi : [A, a, a, Domine Deus :
prophetæ dicunt eis :
Non videbitis gladium,
et fames non erit in vobis :
sed pacem veram dabit vobis in loco isto.]

WLC ¹³ וָאֹמַ֞ר אֲהָ֣הּ ׀ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֗ה הִנֵּ֨ה הַנְּבִאִ֜ים אֹמְרִ֤ים לָהֶם֙ לֹֽא־ תִרְא֣וּ חֶ֔רֶב וְרָעָ֖ב לֹֽא־ יִהְיֶ֣ה לָכֶ֑ם כִּֽי־ שְׁל֤וֹם אֱמֶת֙ אֶתֵּ֣ן לָכֶ֔ם בַּמָּק֖וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

DRB ¹⁴ Et l'Éternel me dit : Les prophètes prophétisent le mensonge en mon nom ; je ne les ai pas envoyés, et je ne leur ai pas commandé, et je ne leur ai pas parlé ; ils vous prophétisent une vision de mensonge, et la divination, et la vanité, et la tromperie de leur cœur.

KJV ¹⁴ Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

VULC ¹⁴ Et dicit Dominus ad me : [Falso prophetæ vaticinantur in nomine meo :
non misi eos, et non præcepi eis,
neque locutus sum ad eos.
Visionem mendacem, et divinationem,
et fraudulentiam, et seductionem cordis sui,
prophetant vobis.

WLC ¹⁴ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗י שֶׁ֚קֶר הַנְּבִאִים֙ נִבְּאִ֣ים בִּשְׁמִ֔י לֹ֤א שְׁלַחְתִּים֙ וְלֹ֣א צִוִּיתִ֔ים וְלֹ֥א דִבַּ֖רְתִּי אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם חֲז֨וֹן שֶׁ֜קֶר וְקֶ֤סֶם לִבָּ֔ם הֵ֖מָּה מִֽתְנַבְּאִ֥ים לָכֶֽם׃

DRB ¹⁵ C'est pourquoi, ainsi dit l'Éternel au sujet des prophètes qui prophétisent en mon nom, et que je n'ai point envoyés, et qui disent : L'épée et la famine ne seront pas dans ce pays : Ces prophètes-là seront consumés par l'épée et par la famine.

KJV ¹⁵ Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.

VULC ¹⁵ Idcirco hæc dicit Dominus
de prophetis qui prophetant in nomine meo,
quos ego non misi, dicentes :
Gladius et fames non erit in terra hac :
In gladio et fame consumentur prophetæ illi.

WLC ¹⁵ לָכֵ֞ן כֹּֽה־ אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה עַֽל־ הַנְּבִאִ֞ים הַנִּבְּאִ֣ים בִּשְׁמִי֮ וַאֲנִ֣י לֹֽא־ שְׁלַחְתִּים֒ וְהֵ֙מָּה֙ אֹֽמְרִ֔ים חֶ֣רֶב וְרָעָ֔ב לֹ֥א יִהְיֶ֖ה בָּאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֑את בַּחֶ֤רֶב וּבָֽרָעָב֙ יִתַּ֔מּוּ הַנְּבִאִ֖ים הָהֵֽמָּה׃

DRB ¹⁶ Et le peuple auquel ils prophétisent sera jeté dans les rues de Jérusalem à cause de la famine et de l'épée, et il n'y aura personne pour les enterrer, eux, leurs femmes, et leurs fils, et leurs filles ; et je verserai sur eux leur iniquité.

KJV ¹⁶ And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.

VULC ¹⁶ Et populi quibus prophetant
erunt projecti in viis Jerusalem
præ fame et gladio,
et non erit qui sepeliat eos :

filii et filiæ eorum :
et effundam super eos malum suum.

WLC ¹⁶ וְהָעָ֣ם אֲשֶׁר־ הֵ֣מָּה נִבְּאִ֣ים לָהֶ֡ם יִֽהְי֣וּ מֻשְׁלָכִים֩ בְּחֻצ֨וֹת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם מִפְּנֵ֣י ׀ הָרָעָ֣ב וְהַחֶ֗רֶב וְאֵ֤ין מְקַבֵּר֙ לָהֵ֔מָּה הֵ֣מָּה נְשֵׁיהֶ֔ם וּבְנֵיהֶ֖ם וּבְנֹֽתֵיהֶ֑ם וְשָׁפַכְתִּ֥י עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם אֶת־ רָעָתָֽם׃

DRB ¹⁷ Et tu leur diras cette parole : Que mes yeux se fondent en larmes, nuit et jour, et qu'ils* ne cessent pas, car la vierge, fille de mon peuple, est ruinée d'une grande ruine, d'un coup très douloureux.

KJV ¹⁷ Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.

Deducant oculi mei lacrimam per noctem et diem,
et non taceant,
quoniam contritione magna
contrita est virgo filia populi mei,
plaga pessima vehementer.

WLC ¹⁷ וְאָמַרְתָּ֤ אֲלֵיהֶם֙ אֶת־ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה תֵּרַ֨דְנָה עֵינַ֥י דִּמְעָ֛ה לַ֥יְלָה וְיוֹמָ֖ם וְאַל־ תִּדְמֶ֑ינָה כִּי֩ שֶׁ֨בֶר גָּד֜וֹל נִשְׁבְּרָ֗ה בְּתוּלַת֙ בַּת־ עַמִּ֔י מַכָּ֖ה נַחְלָ֥ה מְאֹֽד׃

DRB ¹⁸ Si je sors aux champs, voici des gens tués par l'épée, et si j'entre dans la ville, voici des gens alanguis par la faim ; car prophète et sacrificateur s'en iront dans un pays qu'ils ne connaissent pas*.

KJV ¹⁸ If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.

VULC ¹⁸ Si egressus fuero ad agros,
ecce occisi gladio :
et si introiero in civitatem,
ecce attenuati fame.
Propheta quoque et sacerdos abierunt in terram quam ignorabant.

WLC ¹⁸ אִם־ יָצָ֣אתִי הַשָּׂדֶ֗ה וְהִנֵּה֙ חַלְלֵי־ חֶ֔רֶב וְאִם֙ בָּ֣אתִי הָעִ֔יר וְהִנֵּ֖ה תַּחֲלוּאֵ֣י רָעָ֑ב כִּֽי־ גַם־ נָבִ֧יא גַם־ כֹּהֵ֛ן סָחֲר֥וּ אֶל־ אֶ֖רֶץ וְלֹ֥א יָדָֽעוּ׃

DRB ¹⁹ Aurais-tu entièrement rejeté Juda ? Ton âme serait-elle dégoûtée de Sion ? Pourquoi nous as-tu frappés sans qu'il y ait de guérison pour nous ? On attendait la paix, et il n'y a rien de bon, - et le temps de la guérison, et voici l'épouvante.

KJV ¹⁹ Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul lothed Zion? why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? we looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold trouble!

VULC ¹⁹ Numquid projiciens abjecisti Judam ?
aut Sion abominata est anima tua ?
quare ergo percussisti nos ita ut nulla sit sanitas ?
Exspectavimus pacem,
et non est bonum :
et tempus curationis,
et ecce turbatio.

WLC ¹⁹ הֲמָאֹ֨ס מָאַ֜סְתָּ אֶת־ יְהוּדָ֗ה אִם־ בְּצִיּוֹן֙ גָּעֲלָ֣ה נַפְשֶׁ֔ךָ מַדּ֙וּעַ֙ הִכִּיתָ֔נוּ וְאֵ֥ין לָ֖נוּ מַרְפֵּ֑א קַוֵּ֤ה לְשָׁלוֹם֙ וְאֵ֣ין ט֔וֹב וּלְעֵ֥ת מַרְפֵּ֖א וְהִנֵּ֥ה בְעָתָֽה׃

DRB ²⁰ Nous reconnaissons, ô Éternel ! notre méchanceté, l'iniquité de nos pères ; car nous avons péché contre toi.

KJV ²⁰ We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee.

VULC ²⁰ Cognovimus, Domine, impietates nostras,
iniquitates patrum nostrorum,
quia peccavimus tibi.

WLC ²⁰ יָדַ֧עְנוּ יְהוָ֛ה רִשְׁעֵ֖נוּ עֲוֺ֣ן אֲבוֹתֵ֑ינוּ כִּ֥י חָטָ֖אנוּ לָֽךְ׃

DRB ²¹ cause de ton nom, ne [nous] dédaigne point, n'avilis pas le trône de ta gloire ; souviens-toi, ne romps pas ton alliance avec nous.

KJV ²¹ Do not abhor us, for thy name's sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.

VULC ²¹ Ne des nos in opprobrium, propter nomen tuum,
neque facias nobis contumeliam solii gloriæ tuæ :
recordare, ne irritum facias fœdus tuum nobiscum.

WLC ²¹ אַל־ תִּנְאַץ֙ לְמַ֣עַן שִׁמְךָ֔ אַל־ תְּנַבֵּ֖ל כִּסֵּ֣א כְבוֹדֶ֑ךָ זְכֹ֕ר אַל־ תָּפֵ֥ר בְּרִֽיתְךָ֖ אִתָּֽנוּ׃

DRB ²² Parmi les vanités des nations, en est-il qui donnent la pluie ? ou les cieux donnent-ils des ondées ? N'est-ce pas toi*, Éternel ! notre Dieu ? Et nous nous attendons à toi ; car c'est toi qui as fait toutes ces choses.

KJV ²² Are there any among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.

VULC ²² Numquid sunt in sculptilibus gentium qui pluant ?
aut cæli possunt dare imbres ?
nonne tu es Dominus Deus noster, quem exspectavimus ?
tu enim fecisti omnia hæc.]

WLC ²² הֲיֵ֨שׁ בְּהַבְלֵ֤י הַגּוֹיִם֙ מַגְשִׁמִ֔ים וְאִם־ הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם יִתְּנ֣וּ רְבִבִ֑ים הֲלֹ֨א אַתָּה־ ה֜וּא יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ וּ֨נְקַוֶּה־ לָּ֔ךְ כִּֽי־ אַתָּ֥ה עָשִׂ֖יתָ אֶת־ כָּל־ אֵֽלֶּה׃
