KJV ¹ The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

S21 ¹ Voici la parole adressée à Jérémie par l'Eternel:

KJV ² Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.

S21 ² «Lève-toi et descends à la maison du potier. Là, je te ferai entendre mes paroles.»

KJV ³ Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.

S21 ³ Je suis descendu à la maison du potier et j'ai vu qu'il façonnait un objet sur un tour,

KJV ⁴ And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

S21 ⁴ mais le vase d'argile qu'il façonnait ne donnait rien dans sa main. Alors, il a recommencé un autre vase en le faisant comme il lui plaisait.

KJV ⁵ Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

S21 ⁵ Et voici la parole de l'Eternel qui m'a été adressée:

KJV ⁶ O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.

S21 ⁶ «Ne puis-je pas agir envers vous comme ce potier, communauté d'Israël? déclare l'Eternel. Vous êtes dans ma main comme de l'argile dans la main du potier, communauté d'Israël:

KJV ⁷ At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;

S21 ⁷ parfois je parle, à propos d'une nation ou d'un royaume, d'arracher, de démolir et de détruire,

KJV ⁸ If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.

S21 ⁸ mais si la nation dont j'ai parlé renonce à son mauvais comportement, je renoncerai au mal que j'avais prévu de lui faire;

KJV ⁹ And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;

S21 ⁹ et parfois je parle, à propos d'une nation ou d'un royaume, de construire et de planter,

KJV ¹⁰ If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.

S21 ¹⁰ mais si cette nation fait ce qui est mal à mes yeux et ne m'écoute pas, je renoncerai au bien que j'avais l'intention de lui faire.

KJV ¹¹ Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good.

S21 ¹¹ »Maintenant, annonce donc aux hommes de Juda et aux habitants de Jérusalem: ‘Voici ce que dit l'Eternel: Je prépare contre vous un malheur, je forme un projet contre vous. Que chacun renonce donc à sa mauvaise conduite! Corrigez votre conduite et vos agissements!'

KJV ¹² And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.

S21 ¹² Mais ils disent: ‘Rien à faire! Nous suivrons nos pensées, chacun de nous agira conformément aux penchants de son cœur mauvais.'

KJV ¹³ Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing.

S21 ¹³ »C'est pourquoi, voici ce que dit l'Eternel:
Interrogez donc les nations!
Qui a déjà entendu de pareilles choses?
La jeune fille d'Israël a commis des horreurs.

KJV ¹⁴ Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be forsaken?

S21 ¹⁴ La neige du Liban abandonne-t-elle le rocher de la campagne?
Ou voit-on l'eau fraîche et courante qui vient de loin arrêter de couler?

KJV ¹⁵ Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;

S21 ¹⁵ Pourtant, mon peuple m'a oublié.
C'est inutilement qu'il fait brûler de l'encens.
On l'a fait trébucher dans ses voies,
on l'a éloigné des pistes qu'il avait toujours suivies
pour lui faire suivre les sentiers d'une voie non préparée,

KJV ¹⁶ To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished, and wag his head.

S21 ¹⁶ pour transformer son pays en une terre dévastée
devant laquelle on ne cessera jamais de siffler d'étonnement.
Tous les passants seront consternés et secoueront la tête.

KJV ¹⁷ I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will shew them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.

S21 ¹⁷ Pareil au vent d'est, je les disperserai devant l'ennemi.
Je leur tournerai le dos, le jour de leur ruine.»

KJV ¹⁸ Then said they, Come and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.

S21 ¹⁸ Cependant, ils ont dit: «Venez, préparons un plan contre Jérémie! L'enseignement ne manquera pas, puisque nous avons des prêtres, ni les conseils, puisque nous avons des sages, ni les paroles, puisque nous avons des prophètes. Venez, tuons-le à coups de paroles et ne prêtons aucune attention à tout ce qu'il dit!»

KJV ¹⁹ Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.

S21 ¹⁹ «Prête attention à moi, Eternel,
et entends ce que disent mes adversaires!

KJV ²⁰ Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, and to turn away thy wrath from them.

S21 ²⁰ Le mal sera-t-il rendu pour le bien?
En effet, ils m'ont tendu un piège.
Souviens-toi que je me suis tenu devant toi
pour intercéder en leur faveur,
pour détourner ta colère d'eux.

KJV ²¹ Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.

S21 ²¹ C'est pourquoi, livre leurs enfants à la famine,
abandonne-les à la puissance de l'épée!
Que leurs femmes soient privées d'enfants et deviennent veuves,
que leurs maris soient enlevés par la mort,
que leurs jeunes gens soient frappés par l'épée au cours du combat!

KJV ²² Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.

S21 ²² Qu'on entende des cris sortir de leurs maisons,
quand tu feras soudainement fondre sur eux une bande armée!
En effet, ils ont tendu un piège pour me prendre,
ils ont caché des filets sous mes pieds.

KJV ²³ Yet, LORD, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me: forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee; deal thus with them in the time of thine anger.

S21 ²³ Et toi, Eternel, tu connais tous leurs complots pour me faire mourir.
Ne pardonne pas leur faute,
n'efface pas leur péché de devant toi!
Qu'ils soient jetés à terre devant toi!
Agis contre eux lorsque viendra le moment de déverser ta colère!»
