KJV ¹ The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar.

WLC ¹ הַדָּבָ֞ר אֲשֶׁר־ הָיָ֤ה אֶֽל־ יִרְמְיָ֙הוּ֙ מֵאֵ֣ת יְהוָ֔ה הָעֲשִׂרִ֔ית לְצִדְקִיָּ֖הוּ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה הִ֧יא הַשָּׁנָ֛ה שְׁמֹנֶֽה־ עֶשְׂרֵ֥ה שָׁנָ֖ה לִנְבֽוּכַדְרֶאצַּֽר׃

KJV ² For then the king of Babylon's army besieged Jerusalem: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah's house.

MAR ² (Or l'armée du Roi de Babylone assiégeait alors Jérusalem, et Jérémie le Prophète était enfermé dans la cour de la prison, qui était dans la maison du Roi de Juda ;

WLC ² וְאָ֗ז חֵ֚יל מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֔ל צָרִ֖ים עַל־ יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְיִרְמְיָ֣הוּ הַנָּבִ֗יא הָיָ֤ה כָלוּא֙ בַּחֲצַ֣ר הַמַּטָּרָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֖ר בֵּֽית־ מֶ֥לֶךְ יְהוּדָֽה׃

KJV ³ For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, Wherefore dost thou prophesy, and say, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;

MAR ³ Car Sédécias Roi de Juda l'avait enfermé, et lui avait dit : pourquoi prophétises-tu ? en disant : ainsi a dit l'Eternel : voici, je m'en vais livrer cette ville en la main du Roi de Babylone, et il la prendra.

VULC ³ Clauserat enim eum Sedecias rex Juda, dicens : Quare vaticinaris, dicens : Hæc dicit Dominus : Ecce ego dabo civitatem istam in manus regis Babylonis, et capiet eam :

WLC ³ אֲשֶׁ֣ר כְּלָא֔וֹ צִדְקִיָּ֥הוּ מֶֽלֶךְ־ יְהוּדָ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר מַדּוּעַ֩ אַתָּ֨ה נִבָּ֜א לֵאמֹ֗ר כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה הִנְנִ֨י נֹתֵ֜ן אֶת־ הָעִ֥יר הַזֹּ֛את בְּיַ֥ד מֶֽלֶךְ־ בָּבֶ֖ל וּלְכָדָֽהּ׃

KJV ⁴ And Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes;

MAR ⁴ Et Sédécias Roi de Juda n'échappera point de la main des Caldéens, mais il sera certainement livré en la main du Roi de Babylone, et lui parlera bouche à bouche, et ses yeux verront les yeux de ce Roi.

VULC ⁴ et Sedecias rex Juda non effugiet de manu Chaldæorum, sed tradetur in manus regis Babylonis : et loquetur os ejus cum ore illius, et oculi ejus oculos illius videbunt :

WLC ⁴ וְצִדְקִיָּ֙הוּ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֔ה לֹ֥א יִמָּלֵ֖ט מִיַּ֣ד הַכַּשְׂדִּ֑ים כִּ֣י הִנָּתֹ֤ן יִנָּתֵן֙ בְּיַ֣ד מֶֽלֶךְ־ בָּבֶ֔ל וְדִבֶּר־ פִּ֣יו עִם־ פִּ֔יו וְעֵינָ֖יו אֶת־ תִּרְאֶֽינָה׃

KJV ⁵ And he shall lead Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be until I visit him, saith the LORD: though ye fight with the Chaldeans, ye shall not prosper.

MAR ⁵ Et il emmènera Sédécias à Babylone, qui y demeurera jusqu’à ce que je le visite, dit l'Eternel ; si vous combattez contre les Caldéens, vous ne prospérerez point ;)

VULC ⁵ et in Babylonem ducet Sedeciam, et ibi erit donec visitem eum, ait Dominus : si autem dimicaveritis adversum Chaldæos, nihil prosperum habebitis ?

KJV ⁶ And Jeremiah said, The word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

WLC ⁶ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר יִרְמְיָ֑הוּ הָיָ֥ה דְּבַר־ יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV ⁷ Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum thine uncle shall come unto thee saying, Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth: for the right of redemption is thine to buy it.

MAR ⁷ Voici Hanaméel fils de Sallum ton oncle, qui vient vers toi, pour te dire : achète-toi mon champ, qui est à Hanathoth ; car tu as le droit de retrait lignager pour le racheter.

VULC ⁷ Ecce Hanameel filius Sellum, patruelis tuus, veniet ad te, dicens : Eme tibi agrum meum qui est in Anathoth, tibi enim competit ex propinquitate ut emas.

WLC ⁷ הִנֵּ֣ה חֲנַמְאֵ֗ל בֶּן־ שַׁלֻּם֙ דֹּֽדְךָ֔ בָּ֥א אֵלֶ֖יךָ לֵאמֹ֑ר קְנֵ֣ה לְךָ֗ אֶת־ שָׂדִי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּעֲנָת֔וֹת כִּ֥י לְךָ֛ מִשְׁפַּ֥ט הַגְּאֻלָּ֖ה לִקְנֽוֹת׃

KJV ⁸ So Hanameel mine uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the LORD, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine; buy it for thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.

MAR ⁸ Hanaméel donc, fils de mon oncle, vint à moi, selon la parole de l'Eternel, dans la cour de la prison, et me dit : achète, je te prie, mon champ qui [est] à Hanathoth, dans le territoire de Benjamin : car tu as le droit de possession héréditaire, et de retrait lignager, achète-le [donc] pour toi ; et je connus alors que c'était la parole de l'Eternel.

VULC ⁸ Et venit ad me Hanameel filius patrui mei, secundum verbum Domini, ad vestibulum carceris, et ait ad me : Posside agrum meum qui est in Anathoth, in terra Benjamin, quia tibi competit hæreditas, et tu propinquus es ut possideas. Intellexi autem quod verbum Domini esset :

WLC ⁸ וַיָּבֹ֣א אֵ֠לַי חֲנַמְאֵ֨ל בֶּן־ דֹּדִ֜י כִּדְבַ֣ר יְהוָה֮ אֶל־ חֲצַ֣ר הַמַּטָּרָה֒ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַ֡י קְנֵ֣ה נָ֠א אֶת־ שָׂדִ֨י אֲשֶׁר־ בַּעֲנָת֜וֹת אֲשֶׁ֣ר ׀ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ בִּנְיָמִ֗ין כִּֽי־ לְךָ֞ מִשְׁפַּ֧ט הַיְרֻשָּׁ֛ה וּלְךָ֥ הַגְּאֻלָּ֖ה קְנֵה־ לָ֑ךְ וָאֵדַ֕ע כִּ֥י דְבַר־ יְהוָ֖ה הֽוּא׃

KJV ⁹ And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle's son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver.

MAR ⁹ Ainsi j'achetai le champ de Hanaméel, fils de mon oncle, qui [est] à Hanathoth ; et je lui pesai l'argent, [qui fut] dix-sept sicles d'argent.

VULC ⁹ et emi agrum ab Hanameel filio patrui mei, qui est in Anathoth, et appendi ei argentum : septem stateres, et decem argenteos.

WLC ⁹ וָֽאֶקְנֶה֙ אֶת־ הַשָּׂדֶ֔ה מֵאֵ֛ת חֲנַמְאֵ֥ל בֶּן־ דֹּדִ֖י אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּעֲנָת֑וֹת וָֽאֶשְׁקֲלָה־ לּוֹ֙ אֶת־ הַכֶּ֔סֶף שִׁבְעָ֥ה שְׁקָלִ֖ים וַעֲשָׂרָ֥ה הַכָּֽסֶף׃

KJV ¹⁰ And I subscribed the evidence, and sealed it, and took witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances.

MAR ¹⁰ Puis j'en écrivis le contrat, et le cachetai, et je pris des témoins après avoir pesé l'argent dans la balance ;

VULC ¹⁰ Et scripsi in libro, et signavi, et adhibui testes, et appendi argentum in statera.

WLC ¹⁰ וָאֶכְתֹּ֤ב בַּסֵּ֙פֶר֙ וָֽאֶחְתֹּ֔ם וָאָעֵ֖ד עֵדִ֑ים וָאֶשְׁקֹ֥ל הַכֶּ֖סֶף בְּמֹאזְנָֽיִם׃

KJV ¹¹ So I took the evidence of the purchase, both that which was sealed according to the law and custom, and that which was open:

MAR ¹¹ Et je pris le contrat d'acquisition, tant celui qui était cacheté, selon l'ordonnance et les statuts, que celui qui était ouvert.

VULC ¹¹ Et accepi librum possessionis signatum, et stipulationes, et rata, et signa forinsecus :

WLC ¹¹ וָאֶקַּ֖ח אֶת־ סֵ֣פֶר הַמִּקְנָ֑ה אֶת־ הֶֽחָת֛וּם הַמִּצְוָ֥ה וְהַחֻקִּ֖ים וְאֶת־ הַגָּלֽוּי׃

KJV ¹² And I gave the evidence of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel mine uncle's son, and in the presence of the witnesses that subscribed the book of the purchase, before all the Jews that sat in the court of the prison.

MAR ¹² Et je donnai le contrat d'acquisition à Baruc fils de Nérija, fils de Mahaséja, en présence d'Hanaméel fils de mon oncle, et des témoins qui s'étaient souscrits dans le contrat de l'acquisition, [et] en présence de tous les Juifs qui étaient assis dans la cour de la prison.

KJV ¹³ And I charged Baruch before them, saying,

WLC ¹³ וָֽאֲצַוֶּה֙ אֶת בָּר֔וּךְ לְעֵינֵיהֶ֖ם לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV ¹⁴ Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Take these evidences, this evidence of the purchase, both which is sealed, and this evidence which is open; and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may continue many days.

MAR ¹⁴ Ainsi a dit l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël : prends ces contrats ici, savoir ce contrat d'acquisition, qui est cacheté, et ce contrat qui est ouvert, et mets-les dans un pot de terre, afin qu'ils puissent se conserver longtemps.

VULC ¹⁴ Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël : Sume libros istos, librum emptionis hunc signatum, et librum hunc qui apertus est, et pone illos in vase fictili, ut permanere possint diebus multis :

WLC ¹⁴ כֹּֽה־ אָמַר֩ יְהוָ֨ה צְבָא֜וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל לָק֣וֹחַ אֶת־ הַסְּפָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֡לֶּה אֵ֣ת סֵפֶר֩ הַמִּקְנָ֨ה הַזֶּ֜ה וְאֵ֣ת הֶחָת֗וּם וְאֵ֨ת סֵ֤פֶר הַגָּלוּי֙ הַזֶּ֔ה וּנְתַתָּ֖ם בִּכְלִי־ חָ֑רֶשׂ לְמַ֥עַן יַעַמְד֖וּ יָמִ֥ים רַבִּֽים׃

KJV ¹⁵ For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Houses and fields and vineyards shall be possessed again in this land.

MAR ¹⁵ Car ainsi a dit l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël : on achètera encore des maisons, des champs, et des vignes en ce pays.

KJV ¹⁶ Now when I had delivered the evidence of the purchase unto Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed unto the LORD, saying,

WLC ¹⁶ וָאֶתְפַּלֵּ֖ל אֶל־ יְהוָ֑ה אַחֲרֵ֤י תִתִּי֙ אֶת־ סֵ֣פֶר הַמִּקְנָ֔ה אֶל־ בָּר֥וּךְ בֶּן־ נֵרִיָּ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV ¹⁷ Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:

MAR ¹⁷ Ah ! ah ! Seigneur Eternel, voici, tu as fait le ciel et la terre par ta grande puissance, et par ton bras étendu ; aucune chose ne te sera difficile ;

VULC ¹⁷ [Heu ! heu ! heu ! Domine Deus,

KJV ¹⁸ Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name,

MAR ¹⁸ Tu fais miséricorde jusqu'en mille générations, et tu rends l'iniquité des pères dans le sein de leurs enfants après eux ; tu es le [Dieu] Fort, le Grand, le Puissant, le Nom duquel est l'Eternel des armées ;

VULC ¹⁸ qui facis misericordiam in millibus,
et reddis iniquitatem patrum in sinum filiorum eorum post eos :
fortissime, magne, et potens,
Dominus exercituum nomen tibi.

KJV ¹⁹ Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

MAR ¹⁹ Grand en conseil, et abondant en moyens ; car tes yeux sont ouverts sur toutes les voies des enfants des hommes, pour rendre à chacun selon ses voies, et selon le fruit de ses oeuvres.

KJV ²⁰ Which hast set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, and in Israel, and among other men; and hast made thee a name, as at this day;

WLC ²⁰ אֲשֶׁר־ שַׂ֠מְתָּ אֹת֨וֹת וּמֹפְתִ֤ים בְּאֶֽרֶץ־ מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ עַד־ הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה וּבְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל וּבָֽאָדָ֑ם וַתַּעֲשֶׂה־ לְּךָ֥ שֵׁ֖ם כַּיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

KJV ²¹ And hast brought forth thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with great terror;

MAR ²¹ Car tu as retiré Israël ton peuple du pays d'Egypte, avec des signes et des miracles, et avec une main forte, et avec un bras étendu, et en répandant partout la frayeur.

WLC ²¹ וַתֹּצֵ֛א אֶת־ עַמְּךָ֥ אֶת־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם בְּאֹת֣וֹת וּבְמוֹפְתִ֗ים וּבְיָ֤ד חֲזָקָה֙ וּבְאֶזְר֣וֹעַ נְטוּיָ֔ה וּבְמוֹרָ֖א גָּדֽוֹל׃

KJV ²² And hast given them this land, which thou didst swear to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey;

KJV ²³ And they came in, and possessed it; but they obeyed not thy voice, neither walked in thy law; they have done nothing of all that thou commandedst them to do: therefore thou hast caused all this evil to come upon them:

MAR ²³ Et ils [y] sont entrés et l'ont possédé ; mais ils n'ont point obéi à ta voix, et n'ont point marché en ta Loi, [et] n'ont pas fait toutes les choses que tu leur avais commandé de faire ; c'est pourquoi tu as fait que tout ce mal ici les a rencontrés.

et non obedierunt voci tuæ,
et in lege tua non ambulaverunt :
omnia quæ mandasti eis ut facerent non fecerunt,
et evenerunt eis omnia mala hæc.

WLC ²³ וַיָּבֹ֜אוּ וַיִּֽרְשׁ֣וּ אֹתָ֗הּ וְלֹֽא־ שָׁמְע֤וּ בְקוֹלֶ֙ךָ֙ לֹא־ הָלָ֔כוּ אֵת֩ כָּל־ אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוִּ֧יתָה לָהֶ֛ם לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת לֹ֣א עָשׂ֑וּ וַתַּקְרֵ֣א אֹתָ֔ם אֵ֥ת כָּל־ הָרָעָ֖ה הַזֹּֽאת׃

KJV ²⁴ Behold the mounts, they are come unto the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans, that fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence: and what thou hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold, thou seest it.

MAR ²⁴ Voilà, les terrasses [sont élevées], on est venu contre la ville pour la prendre, et à cause de l'épée, de la famine, et de la mortalité, la ville est livrée en la main des Caldéens qui combattent contre elle ; et ce que tu as dit est arrivé, et voici, tu le vois.

VULC ²⁴ Ecce munitiones exstructæ sunt adversum civitatem ut capiatur,
et urbs data est in manus Chaldæorum
qui præliantur adversus eam,
a facie gladii, et famis, et pestilentiæ :

KJV ²⁵ And thou hast said unto me, O Lord GOD, Buy thee the field for money, and take witnesses; for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

KJV ²⁸ Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it:

KJV ²⁹ And the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire on this city, and burn it with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto Baal, and poured out drink offerings unto other gods, to provoke me to anger.

et succendent eam igni, et comburent eam,

KJV ³⁰ For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only done evil before me from their youth: for the children of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, saith the LORD.

KJV ³¹ For this city hath been to me as a provocation of mine anger and of my fury from the day that they built it even unto this day; that I should remove it from before my face,

KJV ³² Because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger, they, their kings, their princes, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

KJV ³³ And they have turned unto me the back, and not the face: though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not hearkened to receive instruction.

KJV ³⁴ But they set their abominations in the house, which is called by my name, to defile it.

KJV ³⁵ And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.

KJV ³⁷ Behold, I will gather them out of all countries, whither I have driven them in mine anger, and in my fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring them again unto this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely:

KJV ⁴¹ Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.

KJV ⁴² For thus saith the LORD; Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them.

KJV ⁴³ And fields shall be bought in this land, whereof ye say, It is desolate without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

KJV ⁴⁴ Men shall buy fields for money, and subscribe evidences, and seal them, and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the mountains, and in the cities of the valley, and in the cities of the south: for I will cause their captivity to return, saith the LORD.

MAR ⁴⁴ On achètera, [dis-je], des champs à prix d'argent, et on en écrira les contrats, et on les cachettera, et on en prendra des témoins au pays de Benjamin, et aux environs de Jérusalem, dans les villes de Juda, tant dans les villes des montagnes, que dans les villes de la plaine, et dans les villes du Midi.
