KJV ¹ And king Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

BCC ² Et il n'obéit point, ni lui, ni ses serviteurs, ni le peuple du pays ; aux paroles que Jéhovah avait prononcées par Jérémie, le prophète.

KJV ² But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of the LORD, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.

BCC ³ Le roi Sédécias envoya Juchal, fils de Sélémias, et Sophonie, fils de Maasias, le prêtre, vers Jérémie le prophète, pour lui dire : "Intercède pour nous, je te prie, auprès de Jéhovah, notre Dieu."

KJV ³ And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the LORD our God for us.

VULC ³ Et misit rex Sedecias Juchal filium Selemiæ, et Sophoniam filium Maasiæ, sacerdotem, ad Jeremiam prophetam, dicens : Ora pro nobis Dominum Deum nostrum.

BCC ⁴ Jérémie allait et venait alors parmi le peuple, n'ayant pas encore été mis en prison.

KJV ⁴ Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people: for they had not put him into prison.

VULC ⁴ Jeremias autem libere ambulabat in medio populi : non enim miserant eum in custodiam carceris. Igitur exercitus Pharaonis egressus est de Ægypto, et audientes Chaldæi qui obsidebant Jerusalem, hujuscemodi nuntium, recesserunt ab Jerusalem.

WLC ⁴ וְיִרְמְיָ֕הוּ בָּ֥א וְיֹצֵ֖א בְּת֣וֹךְ הָעָ֑ם וְלֹֽא־ נָתְנ֥וּ אֹת֖וֹ בֵּ֥ית

BCC ⁵ Or l'armée de Pharaon était sortie d'Égypte, et les Chaldéens qui assiégeaient Jérusalem, en ayant reçu la nouvelle, levèrent le siège de Jérusalem.

KJV ⁵ Then Pharaoh's army was come forth out of Egypt: and when the Chaldeans that besieged Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they departed from Jerusalem.

BCC ⁶ Alors la parole de Jéhovah fut adressée à Jérémie le prophète en ces termes :

WLC ⁶ וַֽיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־ יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־ יִרְמְיָ֥הוּ הַנָּבִ֖יא לֵאמֹֽר׃

BCC ⁷ Jéhovah, Dieu d'Israël, parle ainsi : vous direz au roi de Juda qui vous a envoyé pour m'interroger : l'armée de Pharaon qui est sortie pour vous secourir va retourner au pays d'Égypte ;

KJV ⁷ Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to enquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.

VULC ⁷ et redient Chaldæi, et bellabunt contra civitatem hanc, et capient eam, et succendent eam igni.

BCC ⁸ et les Chaldéens reviendront combattre contre cette ville ; ils la prendront et la brûleront.

KJV ⁸ And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.

VULC ⁸ Hæc dicit Dominus : Nolite decipere animas vestras, dicentes : Euntes abibunt, et recedent a nobis Chaldæi : quia non abibunt.

WLC ⁸ וְשָׁ֙בוּ֙ הַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים וְנִלְחֲמ֖וּ עַל־ הָעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֑את וּלְכָדֻ֖הָ וּשְׂרָפֻ֥הָ בָאֵֽשׁ׃

BCC ⁹ Ainsi parle Jéhovah : ne vous faites pas illusion en disant : les Chaldéens s'en iront tout à fait de notre pays ; car ils ne s'en iront pas.

KJV ⁹ Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

VULC ⁹ Sed etsi percusseritis omnem exercitum Chaldæorum qui præliantur adversum vos, et derelicti fuerint ex eis aliqui vulnerati, singuli de tentorio suo consurgent, et incendent civitatem hanc igni.

WLC ⁹ כֹּ֣ה ׀ אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה אַל־ תַּשִּׁ֤אוּ נַפְשֹֽׁתֵיכֶם֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הָלֹ֛ךְ יֵלְכ֥וּ מֵעָלֵ֖ינוּ הַכַּשְׂדִּ֑ים כִּי־ לֹ֖א יֵלֵֽכוּ׃

BCC ¹⁰ Et même quand vous auriez battu toute l'armée des Chaldéens qui combattent contre vous, et qu'il ne resterait d'eux que des blessés, ils se relèveraient chacun de sa tente et brûleraient cette ville.

KJV ¹⁰ For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

BCC ¹¹ Pendant que l'armée des Chaldéens s'était éloignée de Jérusalem à cause de l'armée de Pharaon,

KJV ¹¹ And it came to pass, that when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army,

VULC ¹¹ egressus est Jeremias de Jerusalem ut iret in terram Benjamin, et divideret ibi possessionem in conspectu civium.

WLC ¹¹ וְהָיָ֗ה בְּהֵֽעָלוֹת֙ חֵ֣יל הַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים מֵעַ֖ל יְרֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם מִפְּנֵ֖י חֵ֥יל פַּרְעֹֽה׃

BCC ¹² Jérémie sortit de Jérusalem pour aller au pays de Benjamin, afin de retirer de là sa portion au milieu du peuple.

KJV ¹² Then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to separate himself thence in the midst of the people.

VULC ¹² Cumque pervenisset ad portam Benjamin, erat ibi custos portæ per vices, nomine Jerias filius Selemiæ filii Hananiæ : et apprehendit Jeremiam prophetam, dicens : Ad Chaldæos profugis.

BCC ¹³ Mais quand il fut arrivé à la porte de Benjamin, le capitaine de la garde, nommé Jérias, fils de Sélémias, fils de Hananias, arrêta Jérémie, le prophète, en disant : "tu passes aux Chaldéens."

KJV ¹³ And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.

VULC ¹³ Et respondit Jeremias : Falsum est : non fugio ad Chaldæos. Et non audivit eum, sed comprehendit Jerias Jeremiam, et adduxit eum ad principes :

WLC ¹³ וַיְהִי־ ה֞וּא בְּשַׁ֣עַר בִּנְיָמִ֗ן וְשָׁם֙ בַּ֣עַל פְּקִדֻ֔ת וּשְׁמוֹ֙ יִרְאִיָּ֔יה בֶּן־ שֶֽׁלֶמְיָ֖ה בֶּן־ חֲנַנְיָ֑ה וַיִּתְפֹּ֞שׂ אֶֽת־ יִרְמְיָ֤הוּ הַנָּבִיא֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר אֶל־ הַכַּשְׂדִּ֖ים אַתָּ֥ה נֹפֵֽל׃

BCC ¹⁴ Jérémie répondit : "c'est, faux, je ne passe pas aux Chaldéens." Mais Jérias ne l'écouta point ; il arrêta Jérémie et l'amena aux chefs.

KJV ¹⁴ Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I fall not away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him: so Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.

VULC ¹⁴ quam ob rem irati principes contra Jeremiam, cæsum eum miserunt in carcerem qui erat in domo Jonathan scribæ : ipse enim præpositus erat super carcerem.

WLC ¹⁴ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יִרְמְיָ֜הוּ שֶׁ֗קֶר אֵינֶ֤נִּי נֹפֵל֙ עַל־ הַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים וְלֹ֥א שָׁמַ֖ע אֵלָ֑יו וַיִּתְפֹּ֤שׂ יִרְאִיָּיה֙ בְּיִרְמְיָ֔הוּ וַיְבִאֵ֖הוּ אֶל־ הַשָּׂרִֽים׃

BCC ¹⁵ Et les chefs s'emportèrent contre Jérémie ; ils le battirent et le mirent en prison dans la maison de Jonathan, le secrétaire ; car ils en avaient fait une prison.

KJV ¹⁵ Wherefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: for they had made that the prison.

VULC ¹⁵ Itaque ingressus est Jeremias in domum laci et in ergastulum : et sedit ibi Jeremias diebus multis.

BCC ¹⁶ Lorsque Jérémie eut été mis dans la basse-fosse, sous les voûtes, et qu'il y fût resté bien des jours,

KJV ¹⁶ When Jeremiah was entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

VULC ¹⁶ Mittens autem Sedecias rex, tulit eum : et interrogavit eum in domo sua abscondite, et dixit : Putasne est sermo a Domino ? Et dixit Jeremias : Est : et ait : In manus regis Babylonis traderis.

WLC ¹⁶ כִּ֣י בָ֧א יִרְמְיָ֛הוּ אֶל־ בֵּ֥ית הַבּ֖וֹר וְאֶל־ הַֽחֲנֻ֑יוֹת וַיֵּֽשֶׁב־ שָׁ֥ם יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ יָמִ֥ים רַבִּֽים׃

BCC ¹⁷ Sédécias le fit tirer de là ; il l'interrogea secrètement dans sa maison, en disant : "y a-t-il une parole de Jéhovah ?" Jérémie répondit : "oui," et il ajouta : "Tu seras livré entre les mains du roi de Babylone."

KJV ¹⁷ Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

VULC ¹⁷ Et dixit Jeremias ad regem Sedeciam : Quid peccavi tibi, et servis tuis, et populo tuo, quia misisti me in domum carceris ?

WLC ¹⁷ וַיִּשְׁלַח֩ הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ צִדְקִיָּ֜הוּ וַיִּקָּחֵ֗הוּ וַיִּשְׁאָלֵ֨הוּ הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ בְּבֵיתוֹ֙ בַּסֵּ֔תֶר וַיֹּ֕אמֶר הֲיֵ֥שׁ דָּבָ֖ר מֵאֵ֣ת יְהוָ֑ה וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יִרְמְיָ֙הוּ֙ יֵ֔שׁ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר בְּיַ֥ד מֶֽלֶךְ־ בָּבֶ֖ל תִּנָּתֵֽן׃

BCC ¹⁸ Jérémie dit encore au roi Sédécias : "quelle offense ai-je commise contre toi, contre tes serviteurs et contre ce peuple, que vous m'ayez mis en prison ?

KJV ¹⁸ Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?

VULC ¹⁸ ubi sunt prophetæ vestri, qui prophetabant vobis, et dicebant : Non veniet rex Babylonis super vos, et super terram hanc ?

WLC ¹⁸ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ אֶל־ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ צִדְקִיָּ֑הוּ מֶה֩ חָטָ֨אתִֽי לְךָ֤ וְלַעֲבָדֶ֙יךָ֙ וְלָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה כִּֽי־ נְתַתֶּ֥ם אוֹתִ֖י אֶל־ בֵּ֥ית הַכֶּֽלֶא׃

BCC ¹⁹ Et où sont vos prophètes qui vous prophétisaient en disant : le roi de Babylone ne reviendra pas contre vous, ni contre ce pays ?

KJV ¹⁹ Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?

VULC ¹⁹ Nunc ergo audi, obsecro, domine mi rex : valeat deprecatio mea in conspectu tuo, et ne me remittas in domum Jonathan scribæ, ne moriar ibi.

WLC ¹⁹ נְבִ֣יאֵיכֶ֔ם אֲשֶׁר־ נִבְּא֥וּ לָכֶ֖ם לֵאמֹ֑ר לֹֽא־ יָבֹ֤א מֶֽלֶךְ־ בָּבֶל֙ עֲלֵיכֶ֔ם וְעַ֖ל הָאָ֥רֶץ הַזֹּֽאת׃

BCC ²⁰ Et maintenant écoute, je te prie, ô roi, mon seigneur ! Que ma supplication soit reçue favorablement devant toi : ne me renvoie pas dans la maison de Jonathan, le secrétaire, pour y mourir."

KJV ²⁰ Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

VULC ²⁰ Præcepit ergo rex Sedecias ut traderetur Jeremias in vestibulo carceris, et daretur ei torta panis quotidie, excepto pulmento, donec consumerentur omnes panes de civitate : et mansit Jeremias in vestibulo carceris.

WLC ²⁰ וְעַתָּ֕ה שְֽׁמַֽע־ נָ֖א אֲדֹנִ֣י הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ תִּפָּל־ נָ֤א תְחִנָּתִי֙ לְפָנֶ֔יךָ וְאַל־ תְּשִׁבֵ֗נִי בֵּ֚ית יְהוֹנָתָ֣ן הַסֹּפֵ֔ר וְלֹ֥א אָמ֖וּת שָֽׁם׃

BCC ²¹ Le roi Sédécias donna l'ordre de garder Jérémie dans la cour de la prison et de lui donner chaque jour une miche de pain, de la rue des boulangers, jusqu'à ce que tout le pain de la ville fût consommé. Ainsi Jérémie demeura dans la cour de la prison.

KJV ²¹ Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.

WLC ²¹ וַיְצַוֶּ֞ה הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ צִדְקִיָּ֗הוּ וַיַּפְקִ֣דוּ אֶֽת־ יִרְמְיָהוּ֮ בַּחֲצַ֣ר הַמַּטָּרָה֒ וְנָתֹן֩ ל֨וֹ כִכַּר־ לֶ֤חֶם לַיּוֹם֙ מִח֣וּץ הָאֹפִ֔ים עַד־ תֹּ֥ם כָּל־ הַלֶּ֖חֶם מִן־ הָעִ֑יר וַיֵּ֣שֶׁב יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ בַּחֲצַ֖ר הַמַּטָּרָֽה׃
