VULC ¹ Verbum quod locutus est Dominus de Babylone et de terra Chaldæorum, in manu Jeremiæ prophetæ.

WLC ¹ הַדָּבָ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבֶּ֧ר יְהוָ֛ה אֶל־ בָּבֶ֖ל אֶל־ אֶ֣רֶץ כַּשְׂדִּ֑ים בְּיַ֖ד יִרְמְיָ֥הוּ הַנָּבִֽיא׃

KJV ² Declare ye among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and conceal not: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.

NEG ² Annoncez-le parmi les nations, publiez-le, élevez une bannière! Publiez-le, ne cachez rien! Dites: Babylone est prise! Bel est confondu, Merodac est brisé! Ses idoles sont confondues, ses idoles sont brisées!

VULC ² [Annuntiate in gentibus, et auditum facite :
levate signum, prædicate, et nolite celare :
dicite : Capta est Babylon,
confusus est Bel, victus est Merodach,
confusa sunt sculptilia ejus,
superata sunt idola eorum.

WLC ² הַגִּ֨ידוּ בַגּוֹיִ֤ם וְהַשְׁמִ֙יעוּ֙ וּֽשְׂאוּ־ נֵ֔ס הַשְׁמִ֖יעוּ אַל־ תְּכַחֵ֑דוּ אִמְרוּ֩ נִלְכְּדָ֨ה בָבֶ֜ל הֹבִ֥ישׁ בֵּל֙ חַ֣ת מְרֹדָ֔ךְ הֹבִ֣ישׁוּ עֲצַבֶּ֔יהָ חַ֖תּוּ גִּלּוּלֶֽיהָ׃

KJV ³ For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, both man and beast.

NEG ³ Car une nation monte contre elle du septentrion, Elle réduira son pays en désert, Il n'y aura plus d'habitants; Hommes et bêtes fuient, s'en vont.

VULC ³ Quoniam ascendit contra eam gens ab aquilone,
quæ ponet terram ejus in solitudinem,
et non erit qui habitet in ea ab homine usque ad pecus :
et moti sunt, et abierunt.

WLC ³ כִּ֣י עָלָה֩ עָלֶ֨יהָ גּ֜וֹי מִצָּפ֗וֹן הֽוּא־ יָשִׁ֤ית אֶת־ אַרְצָהּ֙ לְשַׁמָּ֔ה וְלֹֽא־ יִהְיֶ֥ה יוֹשֵׁ֖ב בָּ֑הּ מֵאָדָ֥ם וְעַד־ בְּהֵמָ֖ה נָ֥דוּ הָלָֽכוּ׃

KJV ⁴ In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: they shall go, and seek the LORD their God.

NEG ⁴ En ces jours, en ce temps-là, dit l'Eternel, Les enfants d'Israël et les enfants de Juda reviendront ensemble; Ils marcheront en pleurant, Et ils chercheront l'Eternel, leur Dieu.

VULC ⁴ In diebus illis, et in tempore illo, ait Dominus,
venient filii Israël ipsi et filii Juda simul :
ambulantes et flentes properabunt,
et Dominum Deum suum quærent :

WLC ⁴ בַּיָּמִ֨ים הָהֵ֜מָּה וּבָעֵ֤ת הַהִיא֙ נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֔ה יָבֹ֧אוּ בְנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל הֵ֥מָּה וּבְנֵֽי־ יְהוּדָ֖ה יַחְדָּ֑ו הָל֤וֹךְ וּבָכוֹ֙ יֵלֵ֔כוּ וְאֶת־ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֖ם יְבַקֵּֽשׁוּ׃

KJV ⁵ They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces thitherward, saying, Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.

NEG ⁵ Ils s'informeront du chemin de Sion, Ils tourneront vers elle leurs regards: Venez, attachez-vous à l'Eternel, Par une alliance éternelle qui ne soit jamais oubliée!

VULC ⁵ in Sion interrogabunt viam, huc facies eorum :
venient, et apponentur ad Dominum fœdere sempiterno,
quod nulla oblivione delebitur.

WLC ⁵ צִיּ֣וֹן יִשְׁאָ֔לוּ דֶּ֖רֶךְ הֵ֣נָּה פְנֵיהֶ֑ם בֹּ֚אוּ וְנִלְו֣וּ אֶל־ יְהוָ֔ה בְּרִ֥ית עוֹלָ֖ם לֹ֥א תִשָּׁכֵֽחַ׃

KJV ⁶ My people hath been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away on the mountains: they have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their restingplace.

NEG ⁶ Mon peuple était un troupeau de brebis perdues; Leurs bergers les égaraient, les faisaient errer par les montagnes; Elles allaient des montagnes sur les collines, Oubliant leur bercail.

VULC ⁶ Grex perditus factus est populus meus :
pastores eorum seduxerunt eos,
feceruntque vagari in montibus :
de monte in collem transierunt ;
obliti sunt cubilis sui.

WLC ⁶ צֹ֤אן אֹֽבְדוֹת֙ עַמִּ֔י רֹעֵיהֶ֣ם הִתְע֔וּם הָרִ֖ים מֵהַ֤ר אֶל־ גִּבְעָה֙ הָלָ֔כוּ שָׁכְח֖וּ רִבְצָֽם׃

KJV ⁷ All that found them have devoured them: and their adversaries said, We offend not, because they have sinned against the LORD, the habitation of justice, even the LORD, the hope of their fathers.

NEG ⁷ Tous ceux qui les trouvaient les dévoraient, Et leurs ennemis disaient: Nous ne sommes point coupables, Puisqu'ils ont péché contre l'Eternel, la demeure de la justice, Contre l'Eternel, l'espérance de leurs pères.

VULC ⁷ Omnes qui invenerunt comederunt eos,
et hostes eorum dixerunt : Non peccavimus :
pro eo quod peccaverunt Domino decori justitiæ,
et exspectationi patrum eorum Domino.

WLC ⁷ כָּל־ מוֹצְאֵיהֶ֣ם אֲכָל֔וּם וְצָרֵיהֶ֥ם אָמְר֖וּ לֹ֣א נֶאְשָׁ֑ם תַּ֗חַת אֲשֶׁ֨ר חָטְא֤וּ לַֽיהוָה֙ נְוֵה־ צֶ֔דֶק וּמִקְוֵ֥ה אֲבֽוֹתֵיהֶ֖ם יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ⁸ Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he goats before the flocks.

NEG ⁸ Fuyez de Babylone, sortez du pays des Chaldéens, Et soyez comme des boucs à la tête du troupeau!

VULC ⁸ Recedite de medio Babylonis,
et de terra Chaldæorum egredimini,
et estote quasi hædi ante gregem.

WLC ⁸ נֻ֚דוּ מִתּ֣וֹךְ בָּבֶ֔ל וּמֵאֶ֥רֶץ כַּשְׂדִּ֖ים וִהְי֕וּ כְּעַתּוּדִ֖ים לִפְנֵי־ צֹֽאן׃

KJV ⁹ For, lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain.

NEG ⁹ Car voici, je vais susciter et faire monter contre Babylone Une multitude de grandes nations du pays du septentrion; Elles se rangeront en bataille contre elle, et s'en empareront; Leurs flèches sont comme un habile guerrier, Qui ne revient pas à vide.

VULC ⁹ Quoniam ecce ego suscito,
et adducam in Babylonem
congregationem gentium magnarum de terra aquilonis,
et præparabuntur adversus eam, et inde capietur :
sagitta ejus quasi viri fortis interfectoris :
non revertetur vacua.

WLC ⁹ כִּ֣י הִנֵּ֣ה אָנֹכִ֡י מֵעִיר֩ וּמַעֲלֶ֨ה עַל־ בָּבֶ֜ל קְהַל־ גּוֹיִ֤ם גְּדֹלִים֙ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ צָפ֔וֹן וְעָ֣רְכוּ לָ֔הּ מִשָּׁ֖ם תִּלָּכֵ֑ד חִצָּיו֙ כְּגִבּ֣וֹר מַשְׁכִּ֔יל לֹ֥א יָשׁ֖וּב רֵיקָֽם׃

KJV ¹⁰ And Chaldea shall be a spoil: all that spoil her shall be satisfied, saith the LORD.

NEG ¹⁰ Et la Chaldée sera livrée au pillage; Tous ceux qui la pilleront seront rassasiés, dit l'Eternel.

VULC ¹⁰ Et erit Chaldæa in prædam :
omnes vastantes eam replebuntur, ait Dominus.

WLC ¹⁰ וְהָיְתָ֥ה כַשְׂדִּ֖ים לְשָׁלָ֑ל כָּל־ שֹׁלְלֶ֥יהָ יִשְׂבָּ֖עוּ נְאֻם־ יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ¹¹ Because ye were glad, because ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine heritage, because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls;

NEG ¹¹ Oui, soyez dans la joie, dans l'allégresse, Vous qui avez pillé mon héritage! Oui, bondissez comme une génisse dans l'herbe, Hennissez comme des chevaux fougueux!

VULC ¹¹ Quoniam exsultatis, et magna loquimini,
diripientes hæreditatem meam :
quoniam effusi estis sicut vituli super herbam,
et mugistis sicut tauri :

WLC ¹¹ כִּ֤י כִּ֣י שֹׁסֵ֖י נַחֲלָתִ֑י כִּ֤י כְּעֶגְלָ֣ה דָשָׁ֔ה כָּאֲבִּרִֽים׃

KJV ¹² Your mother shall be sore confounded; she that bare you shall be ashamed: behold, the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.

NEG ¹² Votre mère est couverte de confusion, Celle qui vous a enfantés rougit de honte; Voici, elle est la dernière des nations, C'est un désert, une terre sèche et aride.

VULC ¹² confusa est mater vestra nimis,
et adæquata pulveri, quæ genuit vos :
ecce novissima erit in gentibus,
deserta, invia, et arens.

WLC ¹² בּ֤וֹשָׁה אִמְּכֶם֙ מְאֹ֔ד חָפְרָ֖ה יֽוֹלַדְתְּכֶ֑ם הִנֵּה֙ אַחֲרִ֣ית גּוֹיִ֔ם מִדְבָּ֖ר צִיָּ֥ה וַעֲרָבָֽה׃

KJV ¹³ Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: every one that goeth by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.

NEG ¹³ A cause de la colère de l'Eternel, elle ne sera plus habitée, Elle ne sera plus qu'une solitude. Tous ceux qui passeront près de Babylone Seront dans l'étonnement et siffleront sur toutes ses plaies.

VULC ¹³ Ab ira Domini non habitabitur,
sed redigetur tota in solitudinem :
omnis qui transibit per Babylonem stupebit,
et sibilabit super universis plagis ejus.

WLC ¹³ מִקֶּ֤צֶף יְהוָה֙ לֹ֣א תֵשֵׁ֔ב וְהָיְתָ֥ה שְׁמָמָ֖ה כֻּלָּ֑הּ כֹּ֚ל עֹבֵ֣ר עַל־ בָּבֶ֔ל יִשֹּׁ֥ם וְיִשְׁרֹ֖ק עַל־ כָּל־ מַכּוֹתֶֽיהָ׃

KJV ¹⁴ Put yourselves in array against Babylon round about: all ye that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she hath sinned against the LORD.

NEG ¹⁴ Rangez-vous en bataille autour de Babylone, vous tous, archers! Tirez contre elle, n'épargnez pas les flèches! Car elle a péché contre l'Eternel.

VULC ¹⁴ Præparamini contra Babylonem per circuitum,
omnes qui tenditis arcum :
debellate eam, non parcatis jaculis,
quia Domino peccavit.

WLC ¹⁴ עִרְכ֨וּ עַל־ בָּבֶ֤ל ׀ סָבִיב֙ כָּל־ דֹּ֣רְכֵי קֶ֔שֶׁת יְד֣וּ אֵלֶ֔יהָ אַֽל־ תַּחְמְל֖וּ אֶל־ חֵ֑ץ כִּ֥י לַֽיהוָ֖ה חָטָֽאָה׃

KJV ¹⁵ Shout against her round about: she hath given her hand: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the vengeance of the LORD: take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do unto her.

NEG ¹⁵ Poussez de tous côtés contre elle un cri de guerre! Elle tend les mains; Ses fondements s'écroulent; Ses murs sont renversés. Car c'est la vengeance de l'Eternel. Vengez-vous sur elle! Faites-lui comme elle a fait!

VULC ¹⁵ Clamate adversus eam,
ubique dedit manum :
ceciderunt fundamenta ejus,
destructi sunt muri ejus,
quoniam ultio Domini est :
ultionem accipite de ea :
sicut fecit, facite ei.

WLC ¹⁵ הָרִ֨יעוּ עָלֶ֤יהָ סָבִיב֙ נָתְנָ֣ה יָדָ֔הּ נָֽפְלוּ֙ נֶהֶרְס֖וּ חֽוֹמוֹתֶ֑יהָ כִּי֩ נִקְמַ֨ת יְהוָ֥ה הִיא֙ הִנָּ֣קְמוּ בָ֔הּ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשְׂתָ֖ה עֲשׂוּ־ לָֽהּ׃

KJV ¹⁶ Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him that handleth the sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his people, and they shall flee every one to his own land.

NEG ¹⁶ Exterminez de Babylone celui qui sème, Et celui qui manie la faucille au temps de la moisson! Devant le glaive destructeur, Que chacun se tourne vers son peuple, Que chacun fuie vers son pays.

VULC ¹⁶ Disperdite satorem de Babylone,
et tenentem falcem in tempore messis :
a facie gladii columbæ
unusquisque ad populum suum convertetur,
et singuli ad terram suam fugient.

WLC ¹⁶ כִּרְת֤וּ זוֹרֵ֙עַ֙ מִבָּבֶ֔ל וְתֹפֵ֥שׂ מַגָּ֖ל בְּעֵ֣ת קָצִ֑יר מִפְּנֵי֙ חֶ֣רֶב הַיּוֹנָ֔ה אִ֤ישׁ אֶל־ עַמּוֹ֙ יִפְנ֔וּ וְאִ֥ישׁ לְאַרְצ֖וֹ יָנֻֽסוּ׃

KJV ¹⁷ Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria hath devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.

NEG ¹⁷ Israël est une brebis égarée, que les lions ont chassée; Le roi d'Assyrie l'a dévorée le premier; Et ce dernier lui a brisé les os, Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone.

VULC ¹⁷ Grex dispersus Israël :
leones ejecerunt eum.
Primus comedit eum rex Assur :
iste novissimus exossavit eum
Nabuchodonosor rex Babylonis.

WLC ¹⁷ שֶׂ֧ה פְזוּרָ֛ה יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אֲרָי֣וֹת הִדִּ֑יחוּ הָרִאשׁ֤וֹן אֲכָלוֹ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר וְזֶ֤ה הָאַחֲרוֹן֙ עִצְּמ֔וֹ נְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּ֖ר מֶ֥לֶךְ בָּבֶֽל׃

KJV ¹⁸ Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.

NEG ¹⁸ C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Voici, je châtierai le roi de Babylone et son pays, Comme j'ai châtié le roi d'Assyrie.

VULC ¹⁸ Propterea hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël :
Ecce ego visitabo regem Babylonis et terram ejus,
sicut visitavi regem Assur :

WLC ¹⁸ לָכֵ֗ן כֹּֽה־ אָמַ֞ר יְהוָ֤ה צְבָאוֹת֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הִנְנִ֥י פֹקֵ֛ד אֶל־ מֶ֥לֶךְ בָּבֶ֖ל וְאֶל־ אַרְצ֑וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר פָּקַ֖דְתִּי אֶל־ מֶ֥לֶךְ אַשּֽׁוּר׃

KJV ¹⁹ And I will bring Israel again to his habitation, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon mount Ephraim and Gilead.

NEG ¹⁹ Je ramènerai Israël dans sa demeure; Il aura ses pâturages du Carmel et du Basan, Et son âme se rassasiera sur la montagne d'Ephraïm et dans Galaad.

VULC ¹⁹ et reducam Israël ad habitaculum suum :
et pascetur Carmelum et Basan,
et in monte Ephraim et Galaad saturabitur anima ejus.

WLC ¹⁹ וְשֹׁבַבְתִּ֤י אֶת־ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֶל־ נָוֵ֔הוּ וְרָעָ֥ה הַכַּרְמֶ֖ל וְהַבָּשָׁ֑ן וּבְהַ֥ר אֶפְרַ֛יִם וְהַגִּלְעָ֖ד תִּשְׂבַּ֥ע נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃

KJV ²⁰ In those days, and in that time, saith the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve.

NEG ²⁰ En ces jours, en ce temps-là, dit l'Eternel, On cherchera l'iniquité d'Israël, et elle n'existera plus, Le péché de Juda, et il ne se trouvera plus; Car je pardonnerai au reste que j'aurai laissé.

VULC ²⁰ In diebus illis, et in tempore illo, ait Dominus,
quæretur iniquitas Israël, et non erit,
et peccatum Juda, et non invenietur :
quoniam propitius ero eis quos reliquero.

WLC ²⁰ בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵם֩ וּבָעֵ֨ת הַהִ֜יא נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֗ה יְבֻקַּ֞שׁ אֶת־ עֲוֺ֤ן יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וְאֵינֶ֔נּוּ וְאֶת־ חַטֹּ֥את יְהוּדָ֖ה וְלֹ֣א תִמָּצֶ֑אינָה כִּ֥י אֶסְלַ֖ח לַאֲשֶׁ֥ר אַשְׁאִֽיר׃

KJV ²¹ Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, saith the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded thee.

NEG ²¹ Monte contre le pays doublement rebelle, Contre ses habitants, et châtie-les! Poursuis, massacre, extermine-les! dit l'Eternel, Exécute entièrement mes ordres!

VULC ²¹ Super terram dominantium ascende,
et super habitatores ejus visita :
dissipa, et interfice quæ post eos sunt, ait Dominus,
et fac juxta omnia quæ præcepi tibi.

WLC ²¹ עַל־ הָאָ֤רֶץ מְרָתַ֙יִם֙ עֲלֵ֣ה עָלֶ֔יהָ וְאֶל־ יוֹשְׁבֵ֖י פְּק֑וֹד חֲרֹ֨ב וְהַחֲרֵ֤ם אַֽחֲרֵיהֶם֙ נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֔ה וַעֲשֵׂ֕ה כְּכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוִּיתִֽיךָ׃

KJV ²² A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.

NEG ²² Des cris de guerre retentissent dans le pays, Et le désastre est grand.

VULC ²² Vox belli in terra, et contritio magna.

WLC ²² ק֥וֹל מִלְחָמָ֖ה בָּאָ֑רֶץ וְשֶׁ֖בֶר גָּדֽוֹל׃

KJV ²³ How is the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!

NEG ²³ Eh quoi! il est rompu, brisé, le marteau de toute la terre! Babylone est détruite au milieu des nations!

VULC ²³ Quomodo confractus est et contritus malleus universæ terræ ?
quomodo versa est in desertum Babylon in gentibus ?

WLC ²³ אֵ֤יךְ נִגְדַּע֙ וַיִּשָּׁבֵ֔ר פַּטִּ֖ישׁ כָּל־ הָאָ֑רֶץ אֵ֣יךְ הָיְתָ֧ה לְשַׁמָּ֛ה בָּבֶ֖ל בַּגּוֹיִֽם׃

KJV ²⁴ I have laid a snare for thee, and thou art also taken, O Babylon, and thou wast not aware: thou art found, and also caught, because thou hast striven against the LORD.

NEG ²⁴ Je t'ai tendu un piège, et tu as été prise, Babylone, A l'improviste; Tu as été atteinte, saisie, Parce que tu as lutté contre l'Eternel.

VULC ²⁴ Illaqueavi te, et capta es, Babylon,
et nesciebas :
inventa es et apprehensa,
quoniam Dominum provocasti.

WLC ²⁴ יָקֹ֨שְׁתִּי לָ֤ךְ וְגַם־ נִלְכַּדְתְּ֙ בָּבֶ֔ל וְאַ֖תְּ לֹ֣א יָדָ֑עַתְּ נִמְצֵאת֙ וְגַם־ נִתְפַּ֔שְׂתְּ כִּ֥י בַֽיהוָ֖ה הִתְגָּרִֽית׃

KJV ²⁵ The LORD hath opened his armoury, and hath brought forth the weapons of his indignation: for this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans.

NEG ²⁵ L'Eternel a ouvert son arsenal, Et il en a tiré les armes de sa colère; Car c'est là une œuvre du Seigneur, de l'Eternel des armées, Dans le pays des Chaldéens.

VULC ²⁵ Aperuit Dominus thesaurum suum,
et protulit vasa iræ suæ,
quoniam opus est Domino Deo exercituum,
in terra Chaldæorum.

WLC ²⁵ פָּתַ֤ח יְהוָה֙ אֶת־ א֣וֹצָר֔וֹ וַיּוֹצֵ֖א אֶת־ כְּלֵ֣י זַעְמ֑וֹ כִּי־ מְלָאכָ֣ה הִ֗יא לַֽאדֹנָ֧י יְהוִ֛ה צְבָא֖וֹת בְּאֶ֥רֶץ כַּשְׂדִּֽים׃

KJV ²⁶ Come against her from the utmost border, open her storehouses: cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: let nothing of her be left.

NEG ²⁶ Pénétrez de toutes parts dans Babylone, ouvrez ses greniers, Faites-y des monceaux comme des tas de gerbes, Et détruisez-la! Qu'il ne reste plus rien d'elle!

VULC ²⁶ Venite ad eam ab extremis finibus ;
aperite ut exeant qui conculcent eam :
tollite de via lapides, et redigite in acervos :
et interficite eam, nec sit quidquam reliquum.

KJV ²⁷ Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation.

NEG ²⁷ Tuez tous ses taureaux, qu'on les égorge! Malheur à eux! car leur jour est arrivé, Le temps de leur châtiment.

KJV ²⁸ The voice of them that flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of his temple.

ut annuntient in Sion ultionem Domini Dei nostri,

WLC ²⁸ ק֥וֹל נָסִ֛ים וּפְלֵטִ֖ים מֵאֶ֣רֶץ בָּבֶ֑ל לְהַגִּ֣יד בְּצִיּ֗וֹן אֶת־ נִקְמַת֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ נִקְמַ֖ת הֵיכָלֽוֹ׃

KJV ²⁹ Call together the archers against Babylon: all ye that bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.

NEG ²⁹ Appelez contre Babylone les archers, vous tous qui maniez l'arc! Campez autour d'elle, que personne n'échappe, Rendez-lui selon ses œuvres, Faites-lui entièrement comme elle a fait! Car elle s'est élevée avec fierté contre l'Eternel, Contre le Saint d'Israël.

VULC ²⁹ Annuntiate in Babylonem plurimis,
omnibus qui tendunt arcum :
consistite adversus eam per gyrum,
et nullus evadat :
reddite ei secundum opus suum :
juxta omnia quæ fecit, facite illi,
quia contra Dominum erecta est,

KJV ³⁰ Therefore shall her young men fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the LORD.

KJV ³¹ Behold, I am against thee, O thou most proud, saith the Lord GOD of hosts: for thy day is come, the time that I will visit thee.

KJV ³² And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.

KJV ³³ Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: and all that took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go.

Calumniam sustinent filii Israël,

KJV ³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name: he shall throughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

NEG ³⁴ Mais leur vengeur est puissant, Lui dont l'Eternel des armées est le nom; Il défendra leur cause, Afin de donner le repos au pays, Et de faire trembler les habitants de Babylone.

judicio defendet causam eorum,
ut exterreat terram,
et commoveat habitatores Babylonis.

KJV ³⁵ A sword is upon the Chaldeans, saith the LORD, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men.

NEG ³⁵ L'épée contre les Chaldéens! dit l'Eternel, Contre les habitants de Babylone, ses chefs et ses sages!

KJV ³⁶ A sword is upon the liars; and they shall dote: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed.

NEG ³⁶ L'épée contre les prophètes de mensonge! qu'ils soient comme des insensés! L'épée contre ses vaillants hommes! qu'ils soient consternés!

VULC ³⁶ Gladius ad divinos ejus, qui stulti erunt :
gladius ad fortes illius, qui timebunt.

KJV ³⁷ A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed.

NEG ³⁷ L'épée contre ses chevaux et ses chars! Contre les gens de toute espèce qui sont au milieu d'elle! Qu'ils deviennent semblables à des femmes! L'épée contre ses trésors! qu'ils soient pillés!

VULC ³⁷ Gladius ad equos ejus, et ad currus ejus,
et ad omne vulgus quod est in medio ejus :
et erunt quasi mulieres :
gladius ad thesauros ejus, qui diripientur.

KJV ³⁸ A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is the land of graven images, and they are mad upon their idols.

NEG ³⁸ La sécheresse contre ses eaux! qu'elles tarissent! Car c'est un pays d'idoles; Ils sont fous de leurs idoles.

KJV ³⁹ Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited for ever; neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation.

NEG ³⁹ C'est pourquoi les animaux du désert s'y établiront avec les chacals, Et les autruches y feront leur demeure; Elle ne sera plus jamais habitée, Elle ne sera plus jamais peuplée.

KJV ⁴⁰ As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the LORD; so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein.

KJV ⁴¹ Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.

et gens magna, et reges multi
consurgent a finibus terræ.

KJV ⁴² They shall hold the bow and the lance: they are cruel, and will not shew mercy: their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses, every one put in array, like a man to the battle, against thee, O daughter of Babylon.

NEG ⁴² Ils portent l'arc et le javelot; Ils sont cruels, sans miséricorde; Leur voix mugit comme la mer; Ils sont montés sur des chevaux, Prêts à combattre comme un seul homme, Contre toi, fille de Babylone!

crudeles sunt, et immisericordes :
vox eorum quasi mare sonabit,
et super equos ascendent,
sicut vir paratus ad prælium contra te, filia Babylon.

KJV ⁴³ The king of Babylon hath heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble: anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail.

KJV ⁴⁴ Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan unto the habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?

de superbia Jordanis ad pulchritudinem robustam,
quia subito currere faciam eum ad illam.

et quis est iste pastor, qui resistat vultui meo ?

WLC ⁴⁴ הִ֠נֵּה כְּאַרְיֵ֞ה יַעֲלֶ֨ה מִגְּא֣וֹן הַיַּרְדֵּן֮ אֶל־ נְוֵ֣ה אֵיתָן֒ כִּֽי־ אַרְגִּ֤עָה מֵֽעָלֶ֔יהָ וּמִ֥י בָח֖וּר אֵלֶ֣יהָ אֶפְקֹ֑ד כִּ֣י מִ֤י כָמ֙וֹנִי֙ וּמִ֣י יוֹעִדֶ֔נִּי וּמִֽי־ זֶ֣ה רֹעֶ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַעֲמֹ֖ד לְפָנָֽי׃

KJV ⁴⁵ Therefore hear ye the counsel of the LORD, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitation desolate with them.

NEG ⁴⁵ C'est pourquoi écoutez la résolution que l'Eternel a prise contre Babylone, Et les desseins qu'il a conçus contre le pays des Chaldéens! Certainement on les traînera comme de faibles brebis, Certainement on ravagera leur demeure.

quod mente concepit adversum Babylonem,
et cogitationes ejus
quas cogitavit super terram Chaldæorum :
nisi detraxerint eos parvuli gregum,
nisi dissipatum fuerit cum ipsis habitaculum eorum.

WLC ⁴⁵ לָכֵ֞ן שִׁמְע֣וּ עֲצַת־ יְהוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר יָעַץ֙ אֶל־ בָּבֶ֔ל וּמַ֨חְשְׁבוֹתָ֔יו אֲשֶׁ֥ר חָשַׁ֖ב אֶל־ אֶ֣רֶץ כַּשְׂדִּ֑ים אִם־ לֹ֤א יִסְחָבוּם֙ צְעִירֵ֣י הַצֹּ֔אן אִם־ לֹ֥א יַשִּׁ֛ים עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם נָוֶֽה׃

KJV ⁴⁶ At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.
