KJV ¹ The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

S21 ¹ Voici la parole adressée à Jérémie par l'Eternel.

VULC ¹ Verbum quod factum est ad Jeremiam a Domino, dicens :

KJV ² Stand in the gate of the LORD's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.

S21 ² «Tiens-toi à la porte de la maison de l'Eternel, et là tu proclameras cette parole, tu diras: ‘Ecoutez la parole de l'Eternel, vous tous, Judéens, vous qui entrez par ces portes pour adorer l'Eternel!'

VULC ² Sta in porta domus Domini, et prædica ibi verbum istud, et dic : [Audite verbum Domini, omnis Juda,
qui ingredimini per portas has ut adoretis Dominum.

KJV ³ Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

S21 ³ Voici ce que dit l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, le Dieu d'Israël: Corrigez votre conduite et votre manière d'agir, et je vous laisserai habiter ici.

VULC ³ Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël :
Bonas facite vias vestras, et studia vestra,
et habitabo vobiscum in loco isto.

KJV ⁴ Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.

S21 ⁴ Ne vous fiez pas aux paroles trompeuses qui prétendent: ‘C'est ici qu'est le temple de l'Eternel, le temple de l'Eternel, le temple de l'Eternel!'

VULC ⁴ Nolite confidere in verbis mendacii, dicentes :
Templum Domini, templum Domini, templum Domini est !

KJV ⁵ For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour;

S21 ⁵ »Si vraiment vous corrigez votre conduite et votre manière d'agir, si vraiment vous faites justice aux uns et aux autres,

VULC ⁵ Quoniam si bene direxeritis vias vestras, et studia vestra ;
si feceritis judicium inter virum et proximum ejus ;

KJV ⁶ If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:

S21 ⁶ si vous n'exploitez pas l'étranger, l'orphelin et la veuve, si vous ne versez pas le sang innocent dans cet endroit et si vous ne vous tournez pas vers d'autres dieux pour votre malheur,

VULC ⁶ advenæ, et pupillo, et viduæ non feceritis calumniam,
nec sanguinem innocentem effuderitis in loco hoc,
et post deos alienos non ambulaveritis in malum vobismetipsis :

KJV ⁷ Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

S21 ⁷ alors je vous laisserai habiter ici, dans ce pays que j'ai donné à vos ancêtres depuis toujours et pour toujours.

VULC ⁷ habitabo vobiscum in loco isto,
in terra quam dedi patribus vestris a sæculo et usque in sæculum.

KJV ⁸ Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.

S21 ⁸ »Mais voici que vous vous fiez à des paroles trompeuses qui ne servent à rien.

VULC ⁸ Ecce vos confiditis vobis in sermonibus mendacii,
qui non proderunt vobis :

KJV ⁹ Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;

S21 ⁹ Quoi! Vous vous permettez de voler, tuer, commettre des adultères, prêter serment de façon hypocrite, faire brûler de l'encens en l'honneur de Baal, suivre d'autres dieux que vous ne connaissez pas,

VULC ⁹ furari, occidere, adulterari,
jurare mendaciter, libare Baalim,
et ire post deos alienos quos ignoratis :

KJV ¹⁰ And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

S21 ¹⁰ puis vous venez vous présenter devant moi, dans ce temple auquel mon nom est associé, et vous dites: ‘Nous avons été délivrés'! Et c'est pour commettre toutes ces horreurs!

VULC ¹⁰ et venistis, et stetistis coram me
in domo hac, in qua invocatum est nomen meum,
et dixistis : Liberati sumus,
eo quod fecerimus omnes abominationes istas.

KJV ¹¹ Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.

S21 ¹¹ Est-il à vos yeux *une caverne de voleurs, ce temple auquel mon nom est associé? Moi-même, je constate que tel est le cas, déclare l'Eternel.

VULC ¹¹ Numquid ergo spelunca latronum facta est domus ista,
in qua invocatum est nomen meum in oculis vestris ?
Ego, ego sum : ego vidi, dicit Dominus.

KJV ¹² But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.

S21 ¹² »Allez donc à l'endroit qui m'était consacré à Silo, là où j'avais fait en premier résider mon nom, et voyez ce que j'en ai fait à cause de la méchanceté de mon peuple, d'Israël!

VULC ¹² Ite ad locum meum in Silo,
ubi habitavit nomen meum a principio,
et videte quæ fecerim ei propter malitiam populi mei Israël.

KJV ¹³ And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;

S21 ¹³ Et maintenant, puisque vous avez commis tous ces actes, déclare l'Eternel, puisque je vous ai parlé et reparlé, inlassablement, et que vous n'avez pas écouté, puisque je vous ai appelés et que vous n'avez pas répondu,

VULC ¹³ Et nunc, quia fecistis omnia opera hæc, dicit Dominus,
et locutus sum ad vos mane consurgens, et loquens, et non audistis :
et vocavi vos, et non respondistis :

KJV ¹⁴ Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.

S21 ¹⁴ je traiterai le temple auquel mon nom est associé, auquel vous vous fiez, et l'endroit que je vous ai donné, à vous et à vos ancêtres, de la même manière que j'ai traité Silo:

KJV ¹⁵ And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.

S21 ¹⁵ je vous chasserai loin de moi, comme j'ai chassé tous vos frères, toute la descendance d'Ephraïm.

VULC ¹⁵ et projiciam vos a facie mea
sicut projeci omnes fratres vestros,
universum semen Ephraim.

KJV ¹⁶ Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.

S21 ¹⁶ »Quant à toi, n'intercède pas en faveur de ce peuple, ne fais monter pour eux ni supplications ni prières. N'insiste pas auprès de moi, car je ne t'écouterai pas.

VULC ¹⁶ Tu ergo, noli orare pro populo hoc,
nec assumas pro eis laudem et orationem :
et non obsistas mihi,
quia non exaudiam te.

KJV ¹⁷ Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

S21 ¹⁷ Ne vois-tu pas ce qu'ils font dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem?

VULC ¹⁷ Nonne vides quid isti faciunt in civitatibus Juda,
et in plateis Jerusalem ?

KJV ¹⁸ The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

S21 ¹⁸ Les enfants ramassent du bois, les pères allument le feu et les femmes pétrissent la pâte pour préparer des gâteaux en l'honneur de la reine du ciel et verser des offrandes liquides en l'honneur d'autres dieux, de sorte qu'ils m'irritent.

VULC ¹⁸ Filii colligunt ligna,
et patres succendunt ignem,
et mulieres conspergunt adipem,
ut faciant placentas reginæ cæli,
et libent diis alienis,
et me ad iracundiam provocent.

KJV ¹⁹ Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?

S21 ¹⁹ Est-ce moi qu'ils irritent – déclaration de l'Eternel – n'est-ce pas eux-mêmes, pour leur propre honte?

VULC ¹⁹ Numquid me ad iracundiam provocant ?
dicit Dominus ;
nonne semetipsos in confusionem vultus sui ?

KJV ²⁰ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

S21 ²⁰ »C'est pourquoi, voici ce que dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Ma colère et ma fureur vont se déverser contre cet endroit, sur les hommes et sur les bêtes, sur les arbres des champs et sur les fruits de la terre. Elles brûleront sans plus s'éteindre.

VULC ²⁰ Ideo hæc dicit Dominus Deus :
Ecce furor meus et indignatio mea conflatur super locum istum,
super viros, et super jumenta,
et super lignum regionis, et super fruges terræ :
et succendetur, et non extinguetur.

KJV ²¹ Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh.

S21 ²¹ »Voici ce que dit l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, le Dieu d'Israël: Ajoutez vos holocaustes à vos sacrifices et mangez-en la viande!

VULC ²¹ Hæc dicit Dominus exercituum, Deus Israël :
Holocautomata vestra addite victimis vestris,
et comedite carnes :

KJV ²² For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:

S21 ²² En effet, je n'ai pas parlé avec vos ancêtres, je ne leur ai donné aucun ordre au sujet des holocaustes et des sacrifices, le jour où je les ai fait sortir d'Egypte.

VULC ²² quia non sum locutus cum patribus vestris, et non præcepi eis,
in die qua eduxi eos de terra Ægypti,
de verbo holocautomatum et victimarum :

KJV ²³ But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

S21 ²³ Voici l'ordre que je leur ai donné: ‘Ecoutez ma voix et je serai votre Dieu, et vous mon peuple. Marchez dans toutes les voies que je vous prescris afin d'être heureux!'

VULC ²³ sed hoc verbum præcepi eis, dicens :
Audite vocem meam,
et ero vobis Deus,
et vos eritis mihi populus :
et ambulate in omni via quam mandavi vobis,
ut bene sit vobis.

KJV ²⁴ But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.

S21 ²⁴ Cependant, ils n'ont pas écouté, ils n'ont pas tendu l'oreille. Ils ont persévéré dans les conseils et les penchants de leur cœur mauvais. Ils ont régressé au lieu de progresser.

VULC ²⁴ Et non audierunt, nec inclinaverunt aurem suam :
sed abierunt in voluntatibus et in pravitate cordis sui mali :
factique sunt retrorsum, et non in ante,

KJV ²⁵ Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them:

S21 ²⁵ »Depuis le jour où vos ancêtres sont sortis d'Egypte jusqu'à aujourd'hui, je vous ai envoyé tous mes serviteurs, les prophètes. Je les ai envoyés chaque jour, inlassablement,

VULC ²⁵ a die qua egressi sunt patres eorum de terra Ægypti
usque ad diem hanc.
Et misi ad vos omnes servos meos prophetas per diem,
consurgens diluculo, et mittens :

KJV ²⁶ Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.

S21 ²⁶ mais ils ne m'ont pas écouté, ils n'ont pas tendu l'oreille. Ils se sont montrés réfractaires, ils ont fait le mal plus encore que leurs ancêtres.

VULC ²⁶ et non audierunt me,
nec inclinaverunt aurem suam :
sed induraverunt cervicem suam,
et pejus operati sunt quam patres eorum.]

KJV ²⁷ Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee.

S21 ²⁷ »Tu leur diras tout cela, mais ils ne t'écouteront pas. Tu les appelleras, mais ils ne te répondront pas.

VULC ²⁷ Et loqueris ad eos omnia verba hæc, et non audient te : et vocabis eos, et non respondebunt tibi.

KJV ²⁸ But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

S21 ²⁸ Alors tu leur diras: ‘C'est ici que se trouve la nation qui n'écoute pas la voix de l'Eternel, son Dieu, et qui ne veut pas tenir compte de la correction.' La vérité a disparu, elle a été retirée de leur bouche.

VULC ²⁸ Et dices ad eos : [Hæc est gens quæ non audivit vocem Domini Dei sui,
nec recepit disciplinam ;
periit fides,
et ablata est de ore eorum.

KJV ²⁹ Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the LORD hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.

S21 ²⁹ »Coupe tes cheveux et jette-les, entonne une complainte sur les hauteurs, car l'Eternel rejette et abandonne la génération qui a provoqué sa colère.

VULC ²⁹ Tonde capillum tuum, et projice,
et sume in directum planctum :
quia projecit Dominus et reliquit generationem furoris sui ;

KJV ³⁰ For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.

S21 ³⁰ En effet, les Judéens ont fait ce qui est mal à mes yeux, dit l'Eternel. Ils ont placé leurs monstrueuses idoles dans le temple auquel mon nom est associé, de manière à le rendre impur.

Posuerunt offendicula sua in domo
in qua invocatum est nomen meum, ut polluerent eam :

KJV ³¹ And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.

S21 ³¹ Ils ont construit des hauts lieux à Topheth, dans la vallée de Ben-Hinnom, pour livrer aux flammes leurs fils et leurs filles. Cela, je ne l'avais pas ordonné, cela ne m'était pas venu à la pensée.

VULC ³¹ et ædificaverunt excelsa Topheth,
quæ est in valle filii Ennom,

KJV ³² Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place.

S21 ³² »Voilà pourquoi les jours viennent, déclare l'Eternel, où l'on ne parlera plus de Topheth et de la vallée de Ben-Hinnom, mais où l'on parlera de la vallée du carnage, et l'on enterrera les morts à Topheth, faute de place.

VULC ³² Ideo ecce dies venient, dicit Dominus,
et non dicetur amplius Topheth, et vallis filii Ennom,
sed vallis interfectionis :
et sepelient in Topheth, eo quod non sit locus.

KJV ³³ And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away.

S21 ³³ Les cadavres de ce peuple serviront de nourriture aux oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre, et il n'y aura personne pour les faire fuir.

VULC ³³ Et erit morticinum populi hujus in cibos volucribus cæli et bestiis terræ,
et non erit qui abigat.

KJV ³⁴ Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.

S21 ³⁴ Je ferai cesser dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem les cris de réjouissance et de joie, les chants du fiancé et de la fiancée, car le pays sera en ruine.

VULC ³⁴ Et quiescere faciam de urbibus Juda,
et de plateis Jerusalem,
vocem gaudii et vocem lætitiæ,

in desolationem enim erit terra.]
