KJV ² And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.

OST ² On les étendra devant le soleil, et devant la lune, et devant toute l'armée des cieux qu'ils ont aimés, qu'ils ont servis et après lesquels ils ont marché, qu'ils ont recherchés et devant lesquels ils se sont prosternés. Ils ne seront point recueillis, ni ensevelis; ils seront comme du fumier sur la face du sol.

VULC ² et expandent ea ad solem, et lunam,
et omnem militiam cæli,
quæ dilexerunt, et quibus servierunt,
et post quæ ambulaverunt,
et quæ quæsierunt, et adoraverunt.
Non colligentur, et non sepelientur :
in sterquilinium super faciem terræ erunt.

WLC ² וּשְׁטָחוּם֩ לַשֶּׁ֨מֶשׁ וְלַיָּרֵ֜חַ וּלְכֹ֣ל ׀ צְבָ֣א הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם אֲשֶׁ֨ר אֲהֵב֜וּם וַאֲשֶׁ֤ר עֲבָדוּם֙ וַֽאֲשֶׁר֙ הָלְכ֣וּ אַֽחֲרֵיהֶ֔ם וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר דְּרָשׁ֔וּם וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר הִֽשְׁתַּחֲו֖וּ לָהֶ֑ם לֹ֤א יֵאָֽסְפוּ֙ וְלֹ֣א יִקָּבֵ֔רוּ לְדֹ֛מֶן עַל־ פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָ֖ה יִֽהְיֽוּ׃

KJV ³ And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue of them that remain of this evil family, which remain in all the places whither I have driven them, saith the LORD of hosts.

OST ³ Et la mort sera plus désirable que la vie pour tous ceux qui seront restés de cette race mauvaise, dans tous les lieux où j'en aurai chassé les restes, dit l'Éternel des armées.

VULC ³ Et eligent magis mortem quam vitam,
omnes qui residui fuerint de cognatione hac pessima,
in universis locis quæ derelicta sunt,
ad quæ ejeci eos, dicit Dominus exercituum.]

WLC ³ וְנִבְחַ֥ר מָ֙וֶת֙ מֵֽחַיִּ֔ים לְכֹ֗ל הַשְּׁאֵרִית֙ הַנִּשְׁאָרִ֔ים מִן־ הַמִּשְׁפָּחָ֥ה הָֽרָעָ֖ה הַזֹּ֑את בְּכָל־ הַמְּקֹמ֤וֹת הַנִּשְׁאָרִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִדַּחְתִּ֣ים שָׁ֔ם נְאֻ֖ם יְהוָ֥ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃

KJV ⁴ Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; Shall they fall, and not arise? shall he turn away, and not return?

OST ⁴ Tu leur diras donc: Ainsi a dit l'Éternel: Si l'on tombe, ne se relève-t-on pas? et si l'on se détourne, ne revient-on pas?

VULC ⁴ Et dices ad eos : [Hæc dicit Dominus :
Numquid qui cadit non resurget ?
et qui aversus est non revertetur ?

WLC ⁴ וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה הֲיִפְּל֖וּ וְלֹ֣א יָק֑וּמוּ אִם־ יָשׁ֖וּב וְלֹ֥א יָשֽׁוּב׃

KJV ⁵ Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.

OST ⁵ Pourquoi donc ce peuple de Jérusalem, s'est-il égaré d'un égarement continuel? Ils persistent dans la tromperie; ils refusent de se convertir.

VULC ⁵ Quare ergo aversus est populus iste in Jerusalem

WLC ⁵ מַדּ֨וּעַ שׁוֹבְבָ֜ה הָעָ֥ם הַזֶּ֛ה יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם מְשֻׁבָ֣ה נִצַּ֑חַת הֶחֱזִ֙יקוּ֙ בַּתַּרְמִ֔ית מֵאֲנ֖וּ לָשֽׁוּב׃

KJV ⁶ I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.

OST ⁶ J'ai prêté l'oreille, j'ai écouté: ils ne parlent pas droitement. Nul ne se repent de sa méchanceté, et ne dit: Qu'ai-je fait? Tous ils retournent à leur course, comme le cheval qui se précipite au combat.

VULC ⁶ Attendi, et auscultavi :
nemo quod bonum est loquitur ;
nullus est qui agat pœnitentiam super peccato suo,
dicens : Quid feci ?
Omnes conversi sunt ad cursum suum,
quasi equus impetu vadens ad prælium.

WLC ⁶ הִקְשַׁ֤בְתִּי וָֽאֶשְׁמָע֙ לוֹא־ כֵ֣ן יְדַבֵּ֔רוּ אֵ֣ין אִ֗ישׁ נִחָם֙ עַל־ רָ֣עָת֔וֹ לֵאמֹ֖ר מֶ֣ה עָשִׂ֑יתִי כֻּלֹּ֗ה שָׁ֚ב כְּס֥וּס שׁוֹטֵ֖ף בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃

KJV ⁷ Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of the LORD.

OST ⁷ La cigogne même connaît dans les cieux ses saisons; la tourterelle, l'hirondelle et la grue observent le temps où elles doivent venir; mais mon peuple ne connaît pas le jugement de l'Éternel.

VULC ⁷ Milvus in cælo cognovit tempus suum :
turtur, et hirundo, et ciconia custodierunt tempus adventus sui :
populus autem meus non cognovit judicium Domini.

WLC ⁷ גַּם־ חֲסִידָ֣ה בַשָּׁמַ֗יִם יָֽדְעָה֙ מֽוֹעֲדֶ֔יהָ וְתֹ֤ר וְעָג֔וּר שָׁמְר֖וּ אֶת־ עֵ֣ת בֹּאָ֑נָה וְעַמִּ֕י לֹ֣א יָֽדְע֔וּ אֵ֖ת מִשְׁפַּ֥ט יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ⁸ How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.

OST ⁸ Comment dites-vous: Nous sommes sages, et la loi de l'Éternel est avec nous? Mais voici, la plume menteuse des scribes en fait un mensonge!

VULC ⁸ Quomodo dicitis : Sapientes nos sumus,
et lex Domini nobiscum est ?
vere mendacium operatus est stylus mendax scribarum !

WLC ⁸ אֵיכָ֤ה תֹֽאמְרוּ֙ חֲכָמִ֣ים אֲנַ֔חְנוּ וְתוֹרַ֥ת יְהוָ֖ה אִתָּ֑נוּ אָכֵן֙ הִנֵּ֣ה לַשֶּׁ֣קֶר עָשָׂ֔ה עֵ֖ט שֶׁ֥קֶר סֹפְרִֽים׃

KJV ⁹ The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?

OST ⁹ Les sages seront confus; ils seront épouvantés, et ils seront pris. Car ils ont rejeté la parole de l'Éternel, et quelle sagesse auraient-ils?

VULC ⁹ Confusi sunt sapientes ;
perterriti et capti sunt :
verbum enim Domini projecerunt,
et sapientia nulla est in eis.

WLC ⁹ הֹבִ֣ישׁוּ חֲכָמִ֔ים חַ֖תּוּ וַיִּלָּכֵ֑דוּ הִנֵּ֤ה בִדְבַר־ יְהוָה֙ מָאָ֔סוּ וְחָכְמַֽת־ מֶ֖ה לָהֶֽם׃

KJV ¹⁰ Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall inherit them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

OST ¹⁰ C'est pourquoi je donnerai leurs femmes à d'autres, et leurs champs à de nouveaux possesseurs. Car, depuis le plus petit jusqu'au plus grand, tous sont avides de gain. Depuis le prophète jusqu'au sacrificateur, tous se conduisent faussement.

KJV ¹¹ For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

OST ¹¹ Ils pansent à la légère la plaie de la fille de mon peuple, en disant: Paix, paix! et il n'y a point de paix.

VULC ¹¹ Et sanabant contritionem filiæ populi mei ad ignominiam,

WLC ¹¹ וַיְרַפּ֞וּ אֶת־ שֶׁ֤בֶר בַּת־ עַמִּי֙ עַל־ נְקַלָּ֔ה לֵאמֹ֖ר שָׁל֣וֹם ׀ שָׁל֑וֹם וְאֵ֖ין שָׁלֽוֹם׃

KJV ¹² Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.

OST ¹² Ont-ils été confus de ce qu'ils ont commis l'abomination? Ils n'en ont même eu aucune honte, et ils ne savent ce que c'est de rougir. C'est pourquoi ils tomberont avec ceux qui tombent; au temps de leur visitation ils seront renversés, dit l'Éternel.

VULC ¹² Confusi sunt, quia abominationem fecerunt :
quinimmo confusione non sunt confusi,
et erubescere nescierunt.
Idcirco cadent inter corruentes :
in tempore visitationis suæ corruent, dicit Dominus.

WLC ¹² הֹבִ֕שׁוּ כִּ֥י תוֹעֵבָ֖ה עָשׂ֑וּ גַּם־ בּ֣וֹשׁ לֹֽא־ יֵבֹ֗שׁוּ וְהִכָּלֵם֙ לֹ֣א יָדָ֔עוּ לָכֵ֞ן יִפְּל֣וּ בַנֹּפְלִ֗ים בְּעֵ֧ת פְּקֻדָּתָ֛ם יִכָּשְׁל֖וּ אָמַ֥ר יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ¹³ I will surely consume them, saith the LORD: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them.

OST ¹³ Je les enlèverai entièrement, dit l'Éternel. Il n'y a point de grappes à la vigne; il n'y a point de figues au figuier; la feuille est flétrie; ce que je leur ai donné sera enlevé!

Non est uva in vitibus, et non sunt ficus in ficulnea :
folium defluxit,
et dedi eis quæ prætergressa sunt.

WLC ¹³ אָסֹ֥ף אֲסִיפֵ֖ם נְאֻם־ יְהֹוָ֑ה אֵין֩ עֲנָבִ֨ים בַּגֶּ֜פֶן וְאֵ֧ין תְּאֵנִ֣ים בַּתְּאֵנָ֗ה וְהֶֽעָלֶה֙ נָבֵ֔ל וָאֶתֵּ֥ן לָהֶ֖ם יַעַבְרֽוּם׃

KJV ¹⁴ Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defenced cities, and let us be silent there: for the LORD our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against the LORD.

OST ¹⁴ Pourquoi demeurons-nous assis? Assemblez-vous, et entrons dans les villes fortes, et nous y périrons! Car l'Éternel notre Dieu a résolu notre perte; il nous fait boire des eaux empoisonnées; parce que nous avons péché contre l'Éternel.

convenite, et ingrediamur civitatem munitam,

KJV ¹⁵ We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold trouble!

KJV ¹⁶ The snorting of his horses was heard from Dan: the whole land trembled at the sound of the neighing of his strong ones; for they are come, and have devoured the land, and all that is in it; the city, and those that dwell therein.

KJV ¹⁷ For, behold, I will send serpents, cockatrices, among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall bite you, saith the LORD.

KJV ¹⁸ When I would comfort myself against sorrow, my heart is faint in me.

KJV ¹⁹ Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: Is not the LORD in Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with strange vanities?

KJV ²⁰ The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.

KJV ²¹ For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me.

KJV ²² Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?
