WLC ¹ וַיַּ֥עַן אִיּ֗וֹב וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

KJV ² How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?

LSG ² Jusques à quand affligerez-vous mon âme, Et m'écraserez-vous de vos discours ?

VULC ² [Usquequo affligitis animam meam,
et atteritis me sermonibus ?

WLC ² עַד־ אָ֭נָה תּוֹגְי֣וּן נַפְשִׁ֑י וּֽתְדַכְּאוּנַ֥נִי בְמִלִּֽים׃

KJV ³ These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me.

LSG ³ Voilà dix fois que vous m'outragez ; N'avez-vous pas honte de m'étourdir ainsi ?

VULC ³ En decies confunditis me,
et non erubescitis opprimentes me.

WLC ³ זֶ֤ה עֶ֣שֶׂר פְּ֭עָמִים תַּכְלִימ֑וּנִי לֹֽא־ תֵ֝בֹ֗שׁוּ תַּהְכְּרוּ־ לִֽי׃

KJV ⁴ And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.

LSG ⁴ Si réellement j'ai péché, Seul j'en suis responsable.

VULC ⁴ Nempe etsi ignoravi,
mecum erit ignorantia mea.

WLC ⁴ וְאַף־ אָמְנָ֥ם שָׁגִ֑יתִי אִ֝תִּ֗י תָּלִ֥ין מְשׁוּגָתִֽי׃

KJV ⁵ If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:

LSG ⁵ Pensez-vous me traiter avec hauteur ? Pensez-vous démontrer que je suis coupable ?

VULC ⁵ At vos contra me erigimini,
et arguitis me opprobriis meis.

WLC ⁵ אִם־ אָ֭מְנָם עָלַ֣י תַּגְדִּ֑ילוּ וְתוֹכִ֥יחוּ עָ֝לַ֗י חֶרְפָּתִּֽי׃

KJV ⁶ Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net.

LSG ⁶ Sachez alors que c'est Dieu qui me poursuit, Et qui m'enveloppe de son filet.

VULC ⁶ Saltem nunc intelligite quia Deus non æquo judicio afflixerit me,
et flagellis suis me cinxerit.

WLC ⁶ דְּֽעוּ־ אֵ֭פוֹ כִּי־ אֱל֣וֹהַּ עִוְּתָ֑נִי וּ֝מְצוּד֗וֹ עָלַ֥י הִקִּֽיף׃

KJV ⁷ Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.

LSG ⁷ Voici, je crie à la violence, et nul ne répond ; J'implore justice, et point de justice !

VULC ⁷ Ecce clamabo, vim patiens, et nemo audiet ;
vociferabor, et non est qui judicet.

WLC ⁷ הֵ֤ן אֶצְעַ֣ק חָ֭מָס וְלֹ֣א אֵעָנֶ֑ה אֲ֝שַׁוַּ֗ע וְאֵ֣ין מִשְׁפָּֽט׃

KJV ⁸ He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.

LSG ⁸ Il m'a fermé toute issue, et je ne puis passer ; Il a répandu des ténèbres sur mes sentiers.

VULC ⁸ Semitam meam circumsepsit, et transire non possum :
et in calle meo tenebras posuit.

WLC ⁸ אָרְחִ֣י גָ֭דַר וְלֹ֣א אֶעֱב֑וֹר וְעַ֥ל נְ֝תִיבוֹתַ֗י חֹ֣שֶׁךְ יָשִֽׂים׃

KJV ⁹ He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.

LSG ⁹ Il m'a dépouillé de ma gloire, Il a enlevé la couronne de ma tête.

VULC ⁹ Spoliavit me gloria mea,
et abstulit coronam de capite meo.

WLC ⁹ כְּ֭בוֹדִי מֵעָלַ֣י הִפְשִׁ֑יט וַ֝יָּ֗סַר עֲטֶ֣רֶת רֹאשִֽׁי׃

KJV ¹⁰ He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree.

LSG ¹⁰ Il m'a brisé de toutes parts, et je m'en vais ; Il a arraché mon espérance comme un arbre.

VULC ¹⁰ Destruxit me undique, et pereo :
et quasi evulsæ arbori abstulit spem meam.

WLC ¹⁰ יִתְּצֵ֣נִי סָ֭בִיב וָאֵלַ֑ךְ וַיַּסַּ֥ע כָּ֝עֵ֗ץ תִּקְוָתִֽי׃

KJV ¹¹ He hath also kindled his wrath against me, and he counteth me unto him as one of his enemies.

LSG ¹¹ Il s'est enflammé de colère contre moi, Il m'a traité comme l'un de ses ennemis.

VULC ¹¹ Iratus est contra me furor ejus,
et sic me habuit quasi hostem suum.

WLC ¹¹ וַיַּ֣חַר עָלַ֣י אַפּ֑וֹ וַיַּחְשְׁבֵ֖נִי ל֣וֹ כְצָרָֽיו׃

KJV ¹² His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp round about my tabernacle.

LSG ¹² Ses troupes se sont de concert mises en marche, Elles se sont frayé leur chemin jusqu'à moi, Elles ont campées autour de ma tente.

VULC ¹² Simul venerunt latrones ejus,
et fecerunt sibi viam per me,
et obsederunt in gyro tabernaculum meum.

WLC ¹² יַ֤חַד ׀ יָ֘בֹ֤אוּ גְדוּדָ֗יו וַיָּסֹ֣לּוּ עָלַ֣י דַּרְכָּ֑ם וַיַּחֲנ֖וּ סָבִ֣יב לְאָהֳלִֽי׃

KJV ¹³ He hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are verily estranged from me.

LSG ¹³ Il a éloigné de moi mes frères, Et mes amis se sont détournés de moi ;

VULC ¹³ Fratres meos longe fecit a me,
et noti mei quasi alieni recesserunt a me.

WLC ¹³ אַ֭חַי מֵעָלַ֣י הִרְחִ֑יק וְ֝יֹדְעַ֗י אַךְ־ זָ֥רוּ מִמֶּֽנִּי׃

KJV ¹⁴ My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.

LSG ¹⁴ Je suis abandonné de mes proches, Je suis oublié de mes intimes.

VULC ¹⁴ Dereliquerunt me propinqui mei,
et qui me noverant obliti sunt mei.

WLC ¹⁴ חָדְל֥וּ קְרוֹבָ֑י וּֽמְיֻדָּעַ֥י שְׁכֵחֽוּנִי׃

KJV ¹⁵ They that dwell in mine house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight.

LSG ¹⁵ Je suis un étranger pour mes serviteurs et mes servantes, Je ne suis plus à leurs yeux qu'un inconnu.

VULC ¹⁵ Inquilini domus meæ et ancillæ meæ sicut alienum habuerunt me,
et quasi peregrinus fui in oculis eorum.

WLC ¹⁵ גָּ֘רֵ֤י בֵיתִ֣י וְ֭אַמְהֹתַי לְזָ֣ר תַּחְשְׁבֻ֑נִי נָ֝כְרִ֗י הָיִ֥יתִי בְעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃

KJV ¹⁶ I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I intreated him with my mouth.

LSG ¹⁶ J'appelle mon serviteur, et il ne répond pas ; Je le supplie de ma bouche, et c'est en vain.

VULC ¹⁶ Servum meum vocavi, et non respondit :
ore proprio deprecabar illum.

WLC ¹⁶ לְעַבְדִּ֣י קָ֭רָאתִי וְלֹ֣א יַעֲנֶ֑ה בְּמוֹ־ פִ֝֗י אֶתְחַנֶּן־ לֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹⁷ My breath is strange to my wife, though I intreated for the children's sake of mine own body.

LSG ¹⁷ Mon humeur est à charge à ma femme, Et ma plainte aux fils de mes entrailles.

VULC ¹⁷ Halitum meum exhorruit uxor mea,
et orabam filios uteri mei.

WLC ¹⁷ ר֭וּחִֽי זָ֣רָה לְאִשְׁתִּ֑י וְ֝חַנֹּתִ֗י לִבְנֵ֥י בִטְנִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁸ Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me.

LSG ¹⁸ Je suis méprisé même par des enfants ; Si je me lève, je reçois leurs insultes.

VULC ¹⁸ Stulti quoque despiciebant me :
et cum ab eis recessissem, detrahebant mihi.

WLC ¹⁸ גַּם־ עֲ֭וִילִים מָ֣אֲסוּ בִ֑י אָ֝ק֗וּמָה וַיְדַבְּרוּ־ בִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁹ All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me.

LSG ¹⁹ Ceux que j'avais pour confidents m'ont en horreur, Ceux que j'aimais se sont tournés contre moi.

VULC ¹⁹ Abominati sunt me quondam consiliarii mei,
et quem maxime diligebam, aversatus est me.

WLC ¹⁹ תִּֽ֭עֲבוּנִי כָּל־ מְתֵ֣י סוֹדִ֑י וְזֶֽה־ אָ֝הַ֗בְתִּי נֶהְפְּכוּ־ בִֽי׃

KJV ²⁰ My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.

LSG ²⁰ Mes os sont attachés à ma peau et à ma chair ; Il ne me reste que la peau des dents.

VULC ²⁰ Pelli meæ, consumptis carnibus, adhæsit os meum,
et derelicta sunt tantummodo labia circa dentes meos.

WLC ²⁰ בְּעוֹרִ֣י וּ֭בִבְשָׂרִי דָּבְקָ֣ה עַצְמִ֑י וָ֝אֶתְמַלְּטָ֗ה בְּע֣וֹר שִׁנָּֽי׃

KJV ²¹ Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.

LSG ²¹ Ayez pitié, ayez pitié de moi, vous, mes amis ! Car la main de Dieu m'a frappé.

VULC ²¹ Miseremini mei, miseremini mei saltem vos, amici mei,
quia manus Domini tetigit me.

WLC ²¹ חָנֻּ֬נִי חָנֻּ֣נִי אַתֶּ֣ם רֵעָ֑י כִּ֥י יַד־ אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַּ נָ֣גְעָה בִּֽי׃

KJV ²² Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?

LSG ²² Pourquoi me poursuivre comme Dieu me poursuit ? Pourquoi vous montrer insatiables de ma chair ?

VULC ²² Quare persequimini me sicut Deus,
et carnibus meis saturamini ?

WLC ²² לָ֭מָּה תִּרְדְּפֻ֣נִי כְמוֹ־ אֵ֑ל וּ֝מִבְּשָׂרִ֗י לֹ֣א תִשְׂבָּֽעוּ׃

KJV ²³ Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!

LSG ²³ Oh ! je voudrais que mes paroles fussent écrites, Qu'elles fussent écrites dans un livre ;

VULC ²³ Quis mihi tribuat ut scribantur sermones mei ?
quis mihi det ut exarentur in libro

WLC ²³ מִֽי־ יִתֵּ֣ן אֵ֭פוֹ וְיִכָּתְב֣וּן מִלָּ֑י מִֽי־ יִתֵּ֖ן בַּסֵּ֣פֶר וְיֻחָֽקוּ׃

KJV ²⁴ That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!

LSG ²⁴ Je voudrais qu'avec un burin de fer et avec du plomb Elles fussent pour toujours gravées dans le roc...

VULC ²⁴ stylo ferreo et plumbi lamina,
vel celte sculpantur in silice ?

WLC ²⁴ בְּעֵט־ בַּרְזֶ֥ל וְעֹפָ֑רֶת לָ֝עַ֗ד בַּצּ֥וּר יֵחָצְבֽוּן׃

KJV ²⁵ For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

LSG ²⁵ Mais je sais que mon Rédempteur est vivant, Et qu'il se lèvera le dernier sur la terre.

VULC ²⁵ Scio enim quod redemptor meus vivit,
et in novissimo die de terra surrecturus sum :

WLC ²⁵ וַאֲנִ֣י יָ֭דַעְתִּי גֹּ֣אֲלִי חָ֑י וְ֝אַחֲר֗וֹן עַל־ עָפָ֥ר יָקֽוּם׃

KJV ²⁶ And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

KJV ²⁷ Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

WLC ²⁷ אֲשֶׁ֤ר אֲנִ֨י ׀ אֶֽחֱזֶה־ לִּ֗י וְעֵינַ֣י רָא֣וּ וְלֹא־ זָ֑ר כָּל֖וּ כִלְיֹתַ֣י בְּחֵקִֽי׃

KJV ²⁸ But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?

VULC ²⁸ Quare ergo nunc dicitis : Persequamur eum,
et radicem verbi inveniamus contra eum ?

WLC ²⁸ כִּ֣י תֹ֭אמְרוּ מַה־ נִּרְדָּף־ ל֑וֹ וְשֹׁ֥רֶשׁ דָּ֝בָ֗ר נִמְצָא־ בִֽי׃

KJV ²⁹ Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.

LSG ²⁹ Craignez pour vous le glaive: Les châtiments par le glaive sont terribles ! Et sachez qu'il y a un jugement.

VULC ²⁹ Fugite ergo a facie gladii,
quoniam ultor iniquitatum gladius est :
et scitote esse judicium.]
