KJV ¹ Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.

S21 ¹ Un autre jour, les fils de Dieu vinrent se présenter devant l'Eternel, et Satan vint aussi au milieu d'eux pour se présenter devant l'Eternel.

WLC ¹ וַיְהִ֣י הַיּ֔וֹם וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים לְהִתְיַצֵּ֖ב עַל־ יְהוָ֑ה וַיָּב֤וֹא גַֽם־ הַשָּׂטָן֙ בְּתֹכָ֔ם לְהִתְיַצֵּ֖ב עַל־ יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ² And the LORD said unto Satan, From whence comest thou? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

S21 ² L'Eternel dit à Satan: «D'où viens-tu?» Satan répondit à l'Eternel: «De parcourir la terre et de m'y promener.»

WLC ² וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־ הַשָּׂטָ֔ן אֵ֥י מִזֶּ֖ה תָּבֹ֑א וַיַּ֨עַן הַשָּׂטָ֤ן אֶת־ יְהוָה֙ וַיֹּאמַ֔ר מִשֻּׁ֣ט בָּאָ֔רֶץ וּמֵהִתְהַלֵּ֖ךְ בָּֽהּ׃

KJV ³ And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.

S21 ³ L'Eternel dit à Satan: «As-tu remarqué mon serviteur Job? Il n'y a personne comme lui sur la terre. C'est un homme intègre et droit. Il craint Dieu et se détourne du mal. Il persévère dans son intégrité et c'est sans raison que tu m'incites à le perdre.»

WLC ³ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־ הַשָּׂטָ֗ן הֲשַׂ֣מְתָּ לִבְּךָ֮ אֶל־ עַבְדִּ֣י אִיּוֹב֒ כִּי֩ אֵ֨ין כָּמֹ֜הוּ בָּאָ֗רֶץ אִ֣ישׁ תָּ֧ם וְיָשָׁ֛ר יְרֵ֥א אֱלֹהִ֖ים וְסָ֣ר מֵרָ֑ע וְעֹדֶ֙נּוּ֙ מַחֲזִ֣יק בְּתֻמָּת֔וֹ וַתְּסִיתֵ֥נִי ב֖וֹ לְבַלְּע֥וֹ חִנָּֽם׃

KJV ⁴ And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.

S21 ⁴ Satan répondit à l'Eternel: «Peau contre peau! Tout ce qu'un homme possède, il est prêt à l'échanger contre sa vie.

WLC ⁴ וַיַּ֧עַן הַשָּׂטָ֛ן אֶת־ יְהוָ֖ה וַיֹּאמַ֑ר ע֣וֹר בְּעַד־ ע֗וֹר וְכֹל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לָאִ֔ישׁ יִתֵּ֖ן בְּעַ֥ד נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃

KJV ⁵ But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.

S21 ⁵ Mais porte donc la main contre lui, touche à ses os et à sa chair, et je suis sûr qu'il te maudira en face.»

WLC ⁵ אוּלָם֙ שְֽׁלַֽח־ נָ֣א יָֽדְךָ֔ וְגַ֥ע אֶל־ עַצְמ֖וֹ וְאֶל־ בְּשָׂר֑וֹ אִם־ לֹ֥א אֶל־ פָּנֶ֖יךָ יְבָרֲכֶֽךָּ׃

KJV ⁶ And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

S21 ⁶ L'Eternel dit à Satan: «Le voici: je te le livre. Seulement, épargne sa vie.»

WLC ⁶ וַיֹּ֧אמֶר יְהוָ֛ה אֶל־ הַשָּׂטָ֖ן הִנּ֣וֹ בְיָדֶ֑ךָ אַ֖ךְ אֶת־ נַפְשׁ֥וֹ שְׁמֹֽר׃

KJV ⁷ So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

S21 ⁷ Satan se retira alors de la présence de l'Eternel. Puis il frappa Job d'un ulcère purulent, depuis la plante des pieds jusqu'au sommet du crâne.

WLC ⁷ וַיֵּצֵא֙ הַשָּׂטָ֔ן מֵאֵ֖ת פְּנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיַּ֤ךְ אֶת־ אִיּוֹב֙ בִּשְׁחִ֣ין רָ֔ע מִכַּ֥ף רַגְל֖וֹ קָדְקֳדֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁸ And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.

S21 ⁸ Job prit un tesson pour se gratter et s'assit sur de la cendre.

WLC ⁸ וַיִּֽקַּֽח־ ל֣וֹ חֶ֔רֶשׂ לְהִתְגָּרֵ֖ד בּ֑וֹ וְה֖וּא יֹשֵׁ֥ב בְּתוֹךְ־ הָאֵֽפֶר׃

KJV ⁹ Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.

S21 ⁹ Sa femme lui dit: «Tu persévères dans ton intégrité? Maudis donc Dieu et meurs!»

WLC ⁹ וַתֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ עֹדְךָ֖ מַחֲזִ֣יק בְּתֻמָּתֶ֑ךָ בָּרֵ֥ךְ אֱלֹהִ֖ים וָמֻֽת׃

KJV ¹⁰ But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

S21 ¹⁰ Mais Job lui répondit: «Tu tiens le langage d'une folle. Nous acceptons le bien de la part de Dieu, et nous n'accepterions pas aussi le mal?»
Dans tout cela, Job ne pécha pas par ses lèvres.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלֶ֗יהָ כְּדַבֵּ֞ר אַחַ֤ת הַנְּבָלוֹת֙ תְּדַבֵּ֔רִי גַּ֣ם אֶת־ הַטּ֗וֹב נְקַבֵּל֙ מֵאֵ֣ת הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים וְאֶת־ הָרָ֖ע לֹ֣א נְקַבֵּ֑ל בְּכָל־ זֹ֛את לֹא־ חָטָ֥א אִיּ֖וֹב בִּשְׂפָתָֽיו׃

KJV ¹¹ Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.

S21 ¹¹ Trois amis de Job apprirent tous les malheurs qui l'avaient frappé. Il s'agissait d'Eliphaz de Théman, de Bildad de Shuach et de Tsophar de Naama. Venus chacun de son pays, ils se concertèrent pour aller exprimer leur compassion à Job et le réconforter.

WLC ¹¹ וַֽיִּשְׁמְע֞וּ שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת ׀ רֵעֵ֣י אִיּ֗וֹב אֵ֣ת כָּל־ הָרָעָ֣ה הַזֹּאת֮ הַבָּ֣אָה עָלָיו֒ וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ מִמְּקֹמ֔וֹ אֱלִיפַ֤ז הַתֵּימָנִי֙ וּבִלְדַּ֣ד הַשּׁוּחִ֔י וְצוֹפַ֖ר הַנַּֽעֲמָתִ֑י וַיִּוָּעֲד֣וּ יַחְדָּ֔ו לָב֥וֹא לָנֽוּד־ ל֖וֹ וּֽלְנַחֲמֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹² And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven.

S21 ¹² Ils l'aperçurent de loin, mais ils ne le reconnurent pas. Ils se mirent alors à pleurer tout haut, déchirèrent leurs manteaux et jetèrent de la poussière en l'air au-dessus de leur tête.

WLC ¹² וַיִּשְׂא֨וּ אֶת־ עֵינֵיהֶ֤ם מֵרָחוֹק֙ וְלֹ֣א הִכִּירֻ֔הוּ וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ קוֹלָ֖ם וַיִּבְכּ֑וּ וַֽיִּקְרְעוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ מְעִל֔וֹ וַיִּזְרְק֥וּ עָפָ֛ר עַל־ רָאשֵׁיהֶ֖ם הַשָּׁמָֽיְמָה׃

KJV ¹³ So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.

S21 ¹³ Pendant 7 jours et 7 nuits, ils restèrent assis par terre à côté de lui, sans lui dire un mot, car ils voyaient à quel point sa douleur était grande.

WLC ¹³ וַיֵּשְׁב֤וּ אִתּוֹ֙ לָאָ֔רֶץ שִׁבְעַ֥ת יָמִ֖ים וְשִׁבְעַ֣ת לֵיל֑וֹת וְאֵין־ דֹּבֵ֤ר אֵלָיו֙ דָּבָ֔ר כִּ֣י רָא֔וּ כִּֽי־ גָדַ֥ל הַכְּאֵ֖ב מְאֹֽד׃
