BAN ¹ Job prit la parole et dit :

WLC ¹ וַיַּ֥עַן אִיּ֗וֹב וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

BAN ² Aujourd'hui encore mon discours [vous paraîtra] une révolte ;
[Et cependant] ma main cherche à étouffer mes soupirs.

KJV ² Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.

LSG ² Maintenant encore ma plainte est une révolte, Mais la souffrance étouffe mes soupirs.

WLC ² גַּם־ הַ֭יּוֹם מְרִ֣י שִׂחִ֑י יָ֝דִ֗י כָּבְדָ֥ה עַל־ אַנְחָתִֽי׃

BAN ³ Oh ! si je savais où le trouver !
J'irais jusqu'à son tribunal,

KJV ³ Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!

LSG ³ Oh ! si je savais où le trouver, Si je pouvais arriver jusqu'à son trône,

WLC ³ מִֽי־ יִתֵּ֣ן יָ֭דַעְתִּי וְאֶמְצָאֵ֑הוּ אָ֝ב֗וֹא עַד־ תְּכוּנָתֽוֹ׃

BAN ⁴ J'exposerais ma cause devant lui,
Je remplirais ma bouche d'arguments.

KJV ⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

LSG ⁴ Je plaiderais ma cause devant lui, Je remplirais ma bouche d'arguments,

WLC ⁴ אֶעֶרְכָ֣ה לְפָנָ֣יו מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּ֝פִ֗י אֲמַלֵּ֥א תוֹכָחֽוֹת׃

BAN ⁵ Je saurais les raisons qu'il peut m'opposer,
Je verrais ce qu'il a à me dire.

KJV ⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.

LSG ⁵ Je connaîtrais ce qu'il peut avoir à répondre, Je verrais ce qu'il peut avoir à me dire.

WLC ⁵ אֵ֭דְעָה מִלִּ֣ים יַעֲנֵ֑נִי וְ֝אָבִ֗ינָה מַה־ יֹּ֥אמַר לִֽי׃

BAN ⁶ Plaiderait-il contre moi dans la plénitude de sa force ?
Non ! seulement il ferait attention à moi !

KJV ⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.

LSG ⁶ Emploierait-il toute sa force à me combattre ? Ne daignerait-il pas au moins m'écouter ?

WLC ⁶ הַבְּרָב־ כֹּ֭חַ יָרִ֣יב עִמָּדִ֑י לֹ֥א אַךְ־ ה֝֗וּא יָשִׂ֥ם בִּֽי׃

BAN ⁷ Alors ce serait un juste qui plaiderait contre lui,
Je serais délivré à toujours de mon juge.

KJV ⁷ There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.

LSG ⁷ Ce serait un homme droit qui plaiderait avec lui, Et je serais pour toujours absous par mon juge.

WLC ⁷ שָׁ֗ם יָ֭שָׁר נוֹכָ֣ח עִמּ֑וֹ וַאֲפַלְּטָ֥ה לָ֝נֶ֗צַח מִשֹּׁפְטִֽי׃

BAN ⁸ Mais maintenant, que j'aille devant moi, il n'y est pas ;
Derrière, je ne l'aperçois pas.

KJV ⁸ Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:

LSG ⁸ Mais, si je vais à l'orient, il n'y est pas ; Si je vais à l'occident, je ne le trouve pas ;

WLC ⁸ הֵ֤ן קֶ֣דֶם אֶהֱלֹ֣ךְ וְאֵינֶ֑נּוּ וְ֝אָח֗וֹר וְֽלֹא־ אָבִ֥ין לֽוֹ׃

BAN ⁹ Il exerce son pouvoir à ma gauche, et je ne puis le trouver ;
Il se tourne vers la droite, et je ne le vois pas.

KJV ⁹ On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:

LSG ⁹ Est-il occupé au nord, je ne puis le voir ; Se cache-t-il au midi, je ne puis le découvrir.

WLC ⁹ שְׂמֹ֣אול בַּעֲשֹׂת֣וֹ וְלֹא־ אָ֑חַז יַעְטֹ֥ף יָ֝מִ֗ין וְלֹ֣א אֶרְאֶֽה׃

BAN ¹⁰ Car il connaît le chemin que je suis ;
S'il voulait me mettre à l'épreuve, j'en sortirais pur comme de l'or.

KJV ¹⁰ But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

LSG ¹⁰ Il sait néanmoins quelle voie j'ai suivie ; Et, s'il m'éprouvait, je sortirais pur comme l'or.

WLC ¹⁰ כִּֽי־ יָ֭דַע דֶּ֣רֶךְ עִמָּדִ֑י בְּ֝חָנַ֗נִי כַּזָּהָ֥ב אֵצֵֽא׃

BAN ¹¹ Mon pied s'en est tenu à ses pas,
J'ai observé sa voie sans m'en écarter.

KJV ¹¹ My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.

LSG ¹¹ Mon pied s'est attaché à ses pas ; J'ai gardé sa voie, et je ne m'en suis point détourné.

WLC ¹¹ בַּ֭אֲשֻׁרוֹ אָחֲזָ֣ה רַגְלִ֑י דַּרְכּ֖וֹ שָׁמַ֣רְתִּי וְלֹא־ אָֽט׃

BAN ¹² Le commandement de ses lèvres, je ne m'en éloignais pas ;
Plus que ma propre volonté, j'ai gardé avec soin les paroles de sa bouche.

KJV ¹² Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

LSG ¹² Je n'ai pas abandonné les commandements de ses lèvres ; J'ai fait plier ma volonté aux paroles de sa bouche.

WLC ¹² מִצְוַ֣ת שְׂ֭פָתָיו וְלֹ֣א אָמִ֑ישׁ מֵ֝חֻקִּ֗י צָפַ֥נְתִּי אִמְרֵי־ פִֽיו׃

BAN ¹³ Mais il a pris une résolution ; qui l'en fera revenir ?
Ce que son âme a souhaité, il le fait.

KJV ¹³ But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.

LSG ¹³ Mais sa résolution est arrêtée ; qui s'y opposera ? Ce que son âme désire, il l'exécute.

WLC ¹³ וְה֣וּא בְ֭אֶחָד וּמִ֣י יְשִׁיבֶ֑נּוּ וְנַפְשׁ֖וֹ אִוְּתָ֣ה וַיָּֽעַשׂ׃

BAN ¹⁴ Car il accomplira ce qu'il a décidé contre moi,
Et il a bien des projets semblables.

KJV ¹⁴ For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him.

LSG ¹⁴ Il accomplira donc ses desseins à mon égard, Et il en concevra bien d'autres encore.

WLC ¹⁴ כִּ֭י יַשְׁלִ֣ים חֻקִּ֑י וְכָהֵ֖נָּה רַבּ֣וֹת עִמּֽוֹ׃

BAN ¹⁵ C'est pourquoi je suis épouvanté en sa présence ;
Quand j'y pense, je tremble devant lui.

KJV ¹⁵ Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.

LSG ¹⁵ Voilà pourquoi sa présence m'épouvante ; Quand j'y pense, j'ai peur de lui.

WLC ¹⁵ עַל־ כֵּ֭ן מִפָּנָ֣יו אֶבָּהֵ֑ל אֶ֝תְבּוֹנֵ֗ן וְאֶפְחַ֥ד מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

BAN ¹⁶ Dieu a rendu craintif mon coeur,
Le Tout-Puissant m'a épouvanté.

KJV ¹⁶ For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me:

LSG ¹⁶ Dieu a brisé mon courage, Le Tout Puissant m'a rempli d'effroi.

WLC ¹⁶ וְ֭אֵל הֵרַ֣ךְ לִבִּ֑י וְ֝שַׁדַּ֗י הִבְהִילָֽנִי׃

BAN ¹⁷ Car ce n'est pas à cause de l'obscurité que je suis anéanti,
Ni à cause de moi, qui suis recouvert de ténèbres.

KJV ¹⁷ Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he covered the darkness from my face.

LSG ¹⁷ Car ce ne sont pas les ténèbres qui m'anéantissent, Ce n'est pas l'obscurité dont je suis couvert.

WLC ¹⁷ כִּֽי־ לֹ֣א נִ֭צְמַתִּי מִפְּנֵי־ חֹ֑שֶׁךְ וּ֝מִפָּנַ֗י כִּסָּה־ אֹֽפֶל׃
