BCC ¹ Alors Job prit la parole et dit :

KJV ¹ Then Job answered and said,

BCC ² Oui, aujourd'hui ma plainte est amère, et pourtant ma main retient mes soupirs.

KJV ² Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.

BCC ³ Oh ! Qui me donnera de savoir où le trouver, d'arriver jusqu'à son trône !

KJV ³ Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!

BCC ⁴ Je plaiderais ma cause devant lui, et je remplirais ma bouche d'arguments.

KJV ⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

BCC ⁵ Je saurais les raisons qu'il peut m'opposer, je verrais ce qu'il peut avoir à me dire.

KJV ⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.

BCC ⁶ M'opposerait-il la grandeur de sa puissance ? Ne jetterait-il pas au moins les yeux sur moi ?

KJV ⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.

BCC ⁷ Alors l'innocent discuterait avec lui, et je m'en irais absous pour toujours par mon juge.

KJV ⁷ There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.

BCC ⁸ Mais si je vais à l'orient, il n'y est pas ; à l'occident, je ne l'aperçois pas.

KJV ⁸ Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:

BCC ⁹ Est-il occupé au septentrion, je ne le vois pas ; se cache-t-il au midi, je ne puis le découvrir.

KJV ⁹ On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:

BCC ¹⁰ Cependant il connaît les sentiers où je marche ; qu'il m'examine, je sortirai pur comme l'or.

KJV ¹⁰ But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

BCC ¹¹ Mon pied a toujours foulé ses traces ; je me suis tenu dans sa voie sans dévier.

KJV ¹¹ My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.

BCC ¹² Je ne me suis pas écarté des préceptes de ses lèvres ; j'ai fait plier ma volonté aux paroles de sa bouche.

KJV ¹² Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

BCC ¹³ Mais il a une pensée : qui l'en fera revenir ? Ce qu'il désire, il l'exécute.

KJV ¹³ But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.

BCC ¹⁴ Il accomplira donc ce qu'il a décrété à mon sujet, et de pareils desseins, il en a beaucoup.

KJV ¹⁴ For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him.

BCC ¹⁵ Voilà pourquoi je me trouble en sa présence ; quand j'y pense, j'ai peur de lui.

KJV ¹⁵ Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.

BCC ¹⁶ Dieu fait fondre mon coeur ; le Tout-Puissant me remplit d'effroi.

KJV ¹⁶ For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me:

BCC ¹⁷ Car ce ne sont pas les ténèbres qui me consument, ni l'obscurité dont ma face est voilée.

KJV ¹⁷ Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he covered the darkness from my face.
