KJV ¹ Then Job answered and said,

OST ¹ Et Job prit la parole, et dit:

KJV ² Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.

OST ² Maintenant encore ma plainte est une révolte, et pourtant ma main comprime mes soupirs.

KJV ³ Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!

OST ³ Oh! si je savais où le trouver, j'irais jusqu'à son trône,

KJV ⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

OST ⁴ J'exposerais ma cause devant lui, et je remplirais ma bouche de preuves;

KJV ⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.

OST ⁵ Je saurais ce qu'il me répondrait, et je comprendrais ce qu'il me dirait.

KJV ⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.

OST ⁶ Contesterait-il avec moi dans la grandeur de sa force? Non, seulement il ferait attention à moi.

KJV ⁷ There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.

OST ⁷ Ce serait alors un juste qui raisonnerait avec lui, et je serais absous pour toujours par mon juge.

KJV ⁸ Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:

OST ⁸ Voici, si je vais à l'Orient, il n'y est pas; si je vais à l'Occident, je ne le découvre pas.

KJV ⁹ On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:

OST ⁹ Est-il occupé au Nord, je ne le vois pas. Se cache-t-il au Midi, je ne l'aperçois pas.

KJV ¹⁰ But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

OST ¹⁰ Il sait la voie que j'ai suivie; qu'il m'éprouve, j'en sortirai comme l'or.

KJV ¹¹ My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.

OST ¹¹ Mon pied s'est attaché à ses pas, j'ai gardé sa voie, et je ne m'en suis pas détourné.

KJV ¹² Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

OST ¹² Je ne me suis point écarté du commandement de ses lèvres, j'ai tenu aux paroles de sa bouche plus qu'à ma provision ordinaire.

KJV ¹³ But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.

OST ¹³ Mais il n'a qu'une pensée; qui l'en fera revenir? Ce que son âme désire, il le fait.

KJV ¹⁴ For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him.

OST ¹⁴ Il achèvera ce qu'il a décidé de moi, et il a dans l'esprit bien d'autres choses pareilles à celle-ci.

KJV ¹⁵ Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.

OST ¹⁵ C'est pourquoi sa présence m'épouvante; quand j'y pense, j'ai peur de lui.

KJV ¹⁶ For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me:

OST ¹⁶ Dieu a amolli mon coeur, et le Tout-Puissant m'a épouvanté.

KJV ¹⁷ Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he covered the darkness from my face.

OST ¹⁷ Car je n'ai pas été retranché avant l'arrivée des ténèbres, et il n'a pas éloigné de ma face l'obscurité.
