KJV ¹ Then Job answered and said,

VULC ¹ Respondens autem Job, ait :

WLC ¹ וַיַּ֥עַן אִיּ֗וֹב וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

KJV ² Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.

VULC ² [Nunc quoque in amaritudine est sermo meus,
et manus plagæ meæ aggravata est super gemitum meum.

WLC ² גַּם־ הַ֭יּוֹם מְרִ֣י שִׂחִ֑י יָ֝דִ֗י כָּבְדָ֥ה עַל־ אַנְחָתִֽי׃

KJV ³ Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!

VULC ³ Quis mihi tribuat ut cognoscam et inveniam illum,
et veniam usque ad solium ejus ?

WLC ³ מִֽי־ יִתֵּ֣ן יָ֭דַעְתִּי וְאֶמְצָאֵ֑הוּ אָ֝ב֗וֹא עַד־ תְּכוּנָתֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

VULC ⁴ Ponam coram eo judicium,
et os meum replebo increpationibus :

WLC ⁴ אֶעֶרְכָ֣ה לְפָנָ֣יו מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּ֝פִ֗י אֲמַלֵּ֥א תוֹכָחֽוֹת׃

KJV ⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.

VULC ⁵ ut sciam verba quæ mihi respondeat,
et intelligam quid loquatur mihi.

WLC ⁵ אֵ֭דְעָה מִלִּ֣ים יַעֲנֵ֑נִי וְ֝אָבִ֗ינָה מַה־ יֹּ֥אמַר לִֽי׃

KJV ⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.

VULC ⁶ Nolo multa fortitudine contendat mecum,
nec magnitudinis suæ mole me premat.

WLC ⁶ הַבְּרָב־ כֹּ֭חַ יָרִ֣יב עִמָּדִ֑י לֹ֥א אַךְ־ ה֝֗וּא יָשִׂ֥ם בִּֽי׃

KJV ⁷ There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.

VULC ⁷ Proponat æquitatem contra me,
et perveniat ad victoriam judicium meum.

WLC ⁷ שָׁ֗ם יָ֭שָׁר נוֹכָ֣ח עִמּ֑וֹ וַאֲפַלְּטָ֥ה לָ֝נֶ֗צַח מִשֹּׁפְטִֽי׃

KJV ⁸ Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:

VULC ⁸ Si ad orientem iero, non apparet ;
si ad occidentem, non intelligam eum.

WLC ⁸ הֵ֤ן קֶ֣דֶם אֶהֱלֹ֣ךְ וְאֵינֶ֑נּוּ וְ֝אָח֗וֹר וְֽלֹא־ אָבִ֥ין לֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁹ On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:

VULC ⁹ Si ad sinistram, quid agam ? non apprehendam eum ;
si me vertam ad dexteram, non videbo illum.

WLC ⁹ שְׂמֹ֣אול בַּעֲשֹׂת֣וֹ וְלֹא־ אָ֑חַז יַעְטֹ֥ף יָ֝מִ֗ין וְלֹ֣א אֶרְאֶֽה׃

KJV ¹⁰ But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

VULC ¹⁰ Ipse vero scit viam meam,
et probavit me quasi aurum quod per ignem transit.

WLC ¹⁰ כִּֽי־ יָ֭דַע דֶּ֣רֶךְ עִמָּדִ֑י בְּ֝חָנַ֗נִי כַּזָּהָ֥ב אֵצֵֽא׃

KJV ¹¹ My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.

VULC ¹¹ Vestigia ejus secutus est pes meus :
viam ejus custodivi, et non declinavi ex ea.

WLC ¹¹ בַּ֭אֲשֻׁרוֹ אָחֲזָ֣ה רַגְלִ֑י דַּרְכּ֖וֹ שָׁמַ֣רְתִּי וְלֹא־ אָֽט׃

KJV ¹² Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

VULC ¹² A mandatis labiorum ejus non recessi,
et in sinu meo abscondi verba oris ejus.

WLC ¹² מִצְוַ֣ת שְׂ֭פָתָיו וְלֹ֣א אָמִ֑ישׁ מֵ֝חֻקִּ֗י צָפַ֥נְתִּי אִמְרֵי־ פִֽיו׃

KJV ¹³ But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.

VULC ¹³ Ipse enim solus est, et nemo avertere potest cogitationem ejus :
et anima ejus quodcumque voluit, hoc fecit.

WLC ¹³ וְה֣וּא בְ֭אֶחָד וּמִ֣י יְשִׁיבֶ֑נּוּ וְנַפְשׁ֖וֹ אִוְּתָ֣ה וַיָּֽעַשׂ׃

KJV ¹⁴ For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him.

VULC ¹⁴ Cum expleverit in me voluntatem suam,
et alia multa similia præsto sunt ei.

WLC ¹⁴ כִּ֭י יַשְׁלִ֣ים חֻקִּ֑י וְכָהֵ֖נָּה רַבּ֣וֹת עִמּֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹⁵ Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.

VULC ¹⁵ Et idcirco a facie ejus turbatus sum,
et considerans eum, timore sollicitor.

WLC ¹⁵ עַל־ כֵּ֭ן מִפָּנָ֣יו אֶבָּהֵ֑ל אֶ֝תְבּוֹנֵ֗ן וְאֶפְחַ֥ד מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

KJV ¹⁶ For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me:

VULC ¹⁶ Deus mollivit cor meum,
et Omnipotens conturbavit me.

WLC ¹⁶ וְ֭אֵל הֵרַ֣ךְ לִבִּ֑י וְ֝שַׁדַּ֗י הִבְהִילָֽנִי׃

KJV ¹⁷ Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he covered the darkness from my face.

VULC ¹⁷ Non enim perii propter imminentes tenebras,
nec faciem meam operuit caligo.]

WLC ¹⁷ כִּֽי־ לֹ֣א נִ֭צְמַתִּי מִפְּנֵי־ חֹ֑שֶׁךְ וּ֝מִפָּנַ֗י כִּסָּה־ אֹֽפֶל׃
