DRB ¹ Pourquoi des temps ne sont-ils pas réservés par devers le Tout-puissant, et ceux qui le connaissent ne voient-ils pas ses jours ?

KJV ¹ Why, seeing times are not hidden from the Almighty, do they that know him not see his days?

DRB ² Ils reculent les bornes, ils pillent le troupeau et le paissent ;

KJV ² Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed thereof.

DRB ³ Ils emmènent l'âne des orphelins et prennent en gage le bœuf de la veuve ;

KJV ³ They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow's ox for a pledge.

DRB ⁴ Ils détournent du chemin les pauvres ; les malheureux* de la terre se cachent ensemble :

KJV ⁴ They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.

DRB ⁵ Voici, ânes sauvages dans le désert, ils sortent pour leur besogne dès le matin, pour chercher leur proie ; le désert leur [fournit] le pain pour leurs* enfants ;

KJV ⁵ Behold, as wild asses in the desert, go they forth to their work; rising betimes for a prey: the wilderness yieldeth food for them and for their children.

DRB ⁶ Ils moissonnent le* fourrage dans les champs, ils grappillent la vigne du méchant ;

KJV ⁶ They reap every one his corn in the field: and they gather the vintage of the wicked.

DRB ⁷ Ils passent la nuit tout nus, sans vêtement, et n'ont pas de couverture par le froid ;

KJV ⁷ They cause the naked to lodge without clothing, that they have no covering in the cold.

DRB ⁸ Ils sont trempés par les averses des montagnes, et, sans refuge, ils se serrent contre le rocher…

KJV ⁸ They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter.

DRB ⁹ Ils arrachent de la mamelle l'orphelin, et [de la main] des pauvres ils prennent des gages* :

KJV ⁹ They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor.

DRB ¹⁰ Ceux-ci vont nus, sans vêtement, et, affamés, ils portent la gerbe ;

KJV ¹⁰ They cause him to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf from the hungry;

DRB ¹¹ Entre leurs murailles ils font de l'huile, ils foulent le pressoir, et ont soif.

KJV ¹¹ Which make oil within their walls, and tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst.

DRB ¹² Des villes sortent les soupirs des mourants, et l'âme des blessés à mort crie, et #Dieu n'impute pas l'indignité [qui se commet].

KJV ¹² Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to them.

DRB ¹³ D'autres sont ennemis de la lumière, ils ne connaissent pas ses voies et ne demeurent pas dans ses sentiers.

KJV ¹³ They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.

DRB ¹⁴ Le meurtrier se lève avec la lumière, il tue le malheureux et le pauvre, et la nuit il est comme le voleur.

KJV ¹⁴ The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief.

DRB ¹⁵ L'œil aussi de l'adultère guette le crépuscule, en disant : Aucun œil ne m'apercevra ; et il met un voile sur son visage.

KJV ¹⁵ The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth his face.

DRB ¹⁶ Dans les ténèbres ils percent les maisons, de jour ils s'enferment* ; ils ne connaissent pas la lumière ;

KJV ¹⁶ In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime: they know not the light.

DRB ¹⁷ Car le matin est pour eux tous l'ombre de la mort, car ils connaissent les terreurs de l'ombre de la mort.

KJV ¹⁷ For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.

DRB ¹⁸ Ils sont rapides sur la face des eaux*, leur part est maudite sur la terre ; ils ne se tournent pas vers les vignes.

KJV ¹⁸ He is swift as the waters; their portion is cursed in the earth: he beholdeth not the way of the vineyards.

DRB ¹⁹ La sécheresse et la chaleur emportent l'eau de neige ; ainsi le shéol fait-il de ceux qui ont péché.

KJV ¹⁹ Drought and heat consume the snow waters: so doth the grave those which have sinned.

DRB ²⁰ Le sein maternel les oublie ; les vers se repaissent d'eux ; on ne se souvient plus d'eux : l'iniquité sera brisée comme du bois !

KJV ²⁰ The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.

DRB ²¹ Ils dépouillent la femme stérile qui n'enfante pas, et ils ne font pas de bien à la veuve.

KJV ²¹ He evil entreateth the barren that beareth not: and doeth not good to the widow.

DRB ²² Et par leur force ils traînent* les puissants ; ils se lèvent et on n'est plus sûr de sa vie.

KJV ²² He draweth also the mighty with his power: he riseth up, and no man is sure of life.

DRB ²³ [Dieu] leur donne la sécurité, et ils s'appuient sur elle ; mais il a ses yeux sur leurs voies.

KJV ²³ Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he resteth; yet his eyes are upon their ways.

DRB ²⁴ Ils sont élevés : dans peu, ils ne sont plus ; ils défaillent, et sont recueillis comme tous ; ils sont coupés comme la tête d'un épi.

KJV ²⁴ They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.

DRB ²⁵ Et si cela n'est pas, qui me fera menteur et réduira mon discours à néant ?

KJV ²⁵ And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?
