BAN ¹ Job continua son discours sentencieux et dit :

KJV ¹ Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,

WLC ¹ וַיֹּ֣סֶף אִ֭יּוֹב שְׂאֵ֥ת מְשָׁל֗וֹ וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

BAN ² Qui me rendra les mois d'autrefois,
Les jours où Dieu me gardait,

KJV ² Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;

WLC ² מִֽי־ יִתְּנֵ֥נִי כְיַרְחֵי־ קֶ֑דֶם כִּ֝ימֵ֗י אֱל֣וֹהַּ יִשְׁמְרֵֽנִי׃

BAN ³ Alors que, sa lampe brillant sur ma tête,
En pleines ténèbres, je marchais à sa lumière ?

KJV ³ When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

WLC ³ בְּהִלּ֣וֹ נֵ֭רוֹ עֲלֵ֣י רֹאשִׁ֑י לְ֝אוֹרוֹ אֵ֣לֶךְ חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃

BAN ⁴ Que ne suis-je de nouveau aux jours de mon automne,
Quand Dieu veillait en ami sur ma tente,

KJV ⁴ As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;

WLC ⁴ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר הָ֭יִיתִי בִּימֵ֣י חָרְפִּ֑י בְּס֥וֹד אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַּ עֲלֵ֣י אָהֳלִֽי׃

BAN ⁵ Quand le Puissant était encore avec moi,
Que mes enfants m'entouraient ;

KJV ⁵ When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;

WLC ⁵ בְּע֣וֹד שַׁ֭דַּי עִמָּדִ֑י סְבִ֖יבוֹתַ֣י נְעָרָֽי׃

BAN ⁶ Quand mes pieds baignaient dans la crème,
Que près de moi le rocher distillait des ruisseaux d'huile,

KJV ⁶ When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;

WLC ⁶ בִּרְחֹ֣ץ הֲלִיכַ֣י בְּחֵמָ֑ה וְצ֥וּר יָצ֥וּק עִ֝מָּדִ֗י פַּלְגֵי־ שָֽׁמֶן׃

BAN ⁷ Quand, montant vers la ville, je me rendais à la porte,
Que je me préparais à m'asseoir sur la place publique !

KJV ⁷ When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!

WLC ⁷ בְּצֵ֣אתִי שַׁ֣עַר עֲלֵי־ קָ֑רֶת בָּ֝רְח֗וֹב אָכִ֥ין מוֹשָׁבִֽי׃

BAN ⁸ A ma vue, les jeunes gens se cachaient,
Les vieillards se levaient et restaient debout,

KJV ⁸ The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.

WLC ⁸ רָא֣וּנִי נְעָרִ֣ים וְנֶחְבָּ֑אוּ וִֽ֝ישִׁישִׁים קָ֣מוּ עָמָֽדוּ׃

BAN ⁹ Les princes retenaient leurs discours
Et mettaient la main sur leur bouche.

KJV ⁹ The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.

WLC ⁹ שָׂ֭רִים עָצְר֣וּ בְמִלִּ֑ים וְ֝כַ֗ף יָשִׂ֥ימוּ לְפִיהֶֽם׃

BAN ¹⁰ La voix des chefs restait muette,
Leur langue était collée à leur palais.

KJV ¹⁰ The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.

WLC ¹⁰ קוֹל־ נְגִידִ֥ים נֶחְבָּ֑אוּ וּ֝לְשׁוֹנָ֗ם לְחִכָּ֥ם דָּבֵֽקָה׃

BAN ¹¹ Car l'oreille qui m'entendait me disait heureux ;
L'oeil qui me voyait me rendait témoignage,

KJV ¹¹ When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:

WLC ¹¹ כִּ֤י אֹ֣זֶן שָׁ֭מְעָה וַֽתְּאַשְּׁרֵ֑נִי וְעַ֥יִן רָ֝אֲתָ֗ה וַתְּעִידֵֽנִי׃

BAN ¹² Parce que je sauvais le pauvre qui poussait des cris,
L'orphelin et l'homme privé de secours.

KJV ¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.

WLC ¹² כִּֽי־ אֲ֭מַלֵּט עָנִ֣י מְשַׁוֵּ֑עַ וְ֝יָת֗וֹם וְֽלֹא־ עֹזֵ֥ר לֽוֹ׃

BAN ¹³ La bénédiction de celui qui allait périr était sur moi ;
Je faisais tressaillir de joie le coeur de la veuve.

KJV ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

WLC ¹³ בִּרְכַּ֣ת אֹ֭בֵד עָלַ֣י תָּבֹ֑א וְלֵ֖ב אַלְמָנָ֣ה אַרְנִֽן׃

BAN ¹⁴ Je m'étais revêtu de la justice et elle s'était vêtue de moi ;
Ma droiture me servait de manteau et de turban.

KJV ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.

WLC ¹⁴ צֶ֣דֶק לָ֭בַשְׁתִּי וַיִּלְבָּשֵׁ֑נִי כִּֽמְעִ֥יל וְ֝צָנִ֗יף מִשְׁפָּטִֽי׃

BAN ¹⁵ J'étais les yeux de l'aveugle,
Les pieds du boiteux.

KJV ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.

WLC ¹⁵ עֵינַ֣יִם הָ֭יִיתִי לַֽעִוֵּ֑ר וְרַגְלַ֖יִם לַפִּסֵּ֣חַ אָֽנִי׃

BAN ¹⁶ Je servais de père aux pauvres,
J'examinais avec soin la cause de celui qui m'était inconnu.

KJV ¹⁶ I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.

WLC ¹⁶ אָ֣ב אָ֭נֹכִֽי לָֽאֶבְיוֹנִ֑ים וְרִ֖ב לֹא־ יָדַ֣עְתִּי אֶחְקְרֵֽהוּ׃

BAN ¹⁷ Je brisais la mâchoire du violent,
Et de ses dents j'arrachais la proie.

KJV ¹⁷ And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.

WLC ¹⁷ וָֽ֭אֲשַׁבְּרָה מְתַלְּע֣וֹת עַוָּ֑ל וּ֝מִשִּׁנָּ֗יו אַשְׁלִ֥יךְ טָֽרֶף׃

BAN ¹⁸ Aussi je me disais : Je mourrai dans mon nid,
Mes jours seront aussi nombreux que le sable.

KJV ¹⁸ Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.

WLC ¹⁸ וָ֭אֹמַר עִם־ קִנִּ֣י אֶגְוָ֑ע וְ֝כַח֗וֹל אַרְבֶּ֥ה יָמִֽים׃

BAN ¹⁹ Ma racine sera ouverte à l'eau,
La rosée passera la nuit dans mon branchage.

KJV ¹⁹ My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.

WLC ¹⁹ שָׁרְשִׁ֣י פָת֣וּחַ אֱלֵי־ מָ֑יִם וְ֝טַ֗ל יָלִ֥ין בִּקְצִירִֽי׃

BAN ²⁰ Ma gloire me restera toujours jeune ;
Mon arc se renouvellera dans ma main.

KJV ²⁰ My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.

WLC ²⁰ כְּ֭בוֹדִי חָדָ֣שׁ עִמָּדִ֑י וְ֝קַשְׁתִּ֗י בְּיָדִ֥י תַחֲלִֽיף׃

BAN ²¹ On m'écoutait et on attendait ;
On faisait silence pour [entendre] mon conseil.

KJV ²¹ Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.

WLC ²¹ לִֽי־ שָׁמְע֥וּ וְיִחֵ֑לּוּ וְ֝יִדְּמ֗וּ לְמ֣וֹ עֲצָתִֽי׃

BAN ²² Quand j'avais parlé, on n'ajoutait rien,
Ma parole descendait sur eux comme une rosée.

KJV ²² After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.

WLC ²² אַחֲרֵ֣י דְ֭בָרִי לֹ֣א יִשְׁנ֑וּ וְ֝עָלֵ֗ימוֹ תִּטֹּ֥ף מִלָּתִֽי׃

BAN ²³ On s'attendait à moi comme à la pluie,
Ils ouvraient la bouche comme pour une pluie de printemps.

KJV ²³ And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

WLC ²³ וְיִֽחֲל֣וּ כַמָּטָ֣ר לִ֑י וּ֝פִיהֶ֗ם פָּעֲר֥וּ לְמַלְקֽוֹשׁ׃

BAN ²⁴ Je leur souriais, quand ils étaient découragés ;
Et ils recueillaient les rayons de mon visage.

KJV ²⁴ If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.

WLC ²⁴ אֶשְׂחַ֣ק אֲ֭לֵהֶם לֹ֣א יַאֲמִ֑ינוּ וְא֥וֹר פָּ֝נַ֗י לֹ֣א יַפִּילֽוּן׃

BAN ²⁵ Quand j'allais chez eux, je m'asseyais à leur tête ;
Je trônais comme un roi au milieu de sa troupe,
Comme quelqu'un qui console des affligés.

KJV ²⁵ I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth the mourners.

WLC ²⁵ אֶֽבֲחַ֣ר דַּרְכָּם֮ וְאֵשֵׁ֪ב רֹ֥אשׁ וְ֭אֶשְׁכּוֹן כְּמֶ֣לֶךְ בַּגְּד֑וּד כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר אֲבֵלִ֣ים יְנַחֵֽם׃
