KJV ¹ Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,

S21 ¹ Job poursuivit son développement:

WLC ¹ וַיֹּ֣סֶף אִ֭יּוֹב שְׂאֵ֥ת מְשָׁל֗וֹ וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

KJV ² Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;

S21 ² «Si seulement je pouvais revivre les mois passés,
les jours où Dieu me gardait,

WLC ² מִֽי־ יִתְּנֵ֥נִי כְיַרְחֵי־ קֶ֑דֶם כִּ֝ימֵ֗י אֱל֣וֹהַּ יִשְׁמְרֵֽנִי׃

KJV ³ When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

S21 ³ où sa lampe brillait sur ma tête
et où sa lumière me guidait dans les ténèbres!

WLC ³ בְּהִלּ֣וֹ נֵ֭רוֹ עֲלֵ֣י רֹאשִׁ֑י לְ֝אוֹרוֹ אֵ֣לֶךְ חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃

KJV ⁴ As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;

S21 ⁴ J'atteignais alors mon plein épanouissement.
Dieu veillait en ami sur ma tente,

WLC ⁴ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר הָ֭יִיתִי בִּימֵ֣י חָרְפִּ֑י בְּס֥וֹד אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַּ עֲלֵ֣י אָהֳלִֽי׃

KJV ⁵ When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;

S21 ⁵ le Tout-Puissant était encore avec moi
et mes enfants m'entouraient.

WLC ⁵ בְּע֣וֹד שַׁ֭דַּי עִמָּדִ֑י סְבִ֖יבוֹתַ֣י נְעָרָֽי׃

KJV ⁶ When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;

S21 ⁶ Mes pieds baignaient dans la crème
et un rocher déversait près de moi des torrents d'huile!

WLC ⁶ בִּרְחֹ֣ץ הֲלִיכַ֣י בְּחֵמָ֑ה וְצ֥וּר יָצ֥וּק עִ֝מָּדִ֗י פַּלְגֵי־ שָֽׁמֶן׃

KJV ⁷ When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!

S21 ⁷ »Quand je sortais pour aller à la porte de la ville
et me faisais préparer un siège sur la place,

WLC ⁷ בְּצֵ֣אתִי שַׁ֣עַר עֲלֵי־ קָ֑רֶת בָּ֝רְח֗וֹב אָכִ֥ין מוֹשָׁבִֽי׃

KJV ⁸ The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.

S21 ⁸ les jeunes gens se retiraient à mon approche,
les vieillards se levaient et restaient debout.

WLC ⁸ רָא֣וּנִי נְעָרִ֣ים וְנֶחְבָּ֑אוּ וִֽ֝ישִׁישִׁים קָ֣מוּ עָמָֽדוּ׃

KJV ⁹ The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.

S21 ⁹ Les chefs arrêtaient leurs discours
et mettaient la main sur leur bouche,

WLC ⁹ שָׂ֭רִים עָצְר֣וּ בְמִלִּ֑ים וְ֝כַ֗ף יָשִׂ֥ימוּ לְפִיהֶֽם׃

KJV ¹⁰ The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.

S21 ¹⁰ la voix des princes s'estompait
et leur langue restait attachée à leur palais.

WLC ¹⁰ קוֹל־ נְגִידִ֥ים נֶחְבָּ֑אוּ וּ֝לְשׁוֹנָ֗ם לְחִכָּ֥ם דָּבֵֽקָה׃

KJV ¹¹ When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:

S21 ¹¹ L'oreille qui m'entendait me disait heureux,
l'œil qui me voyait me rendait un témoignage favorable.

WLC ¹¹ כִּ֤י אֹ֣זֶן שָׁ֭מְעָה וַֽתְּאַשְּׁרֵ֑נִי וְעַ֥יִן רָ֝אֲתָ֗ה וַתְּעִידֵֽנִי׃

KJV ¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.

S21 ¹² »C'est que je délivrais le malheureux qui appelait à l'aide
et l'orphelin que personne ne secourait.

WLC ¹² כִּֽי־ אֲ֭מַלֵּט עָנִ֣י מְשַׁוֵּ֑עַ וְ֝יָת֗וֹם וְֽלֹא־ עֹזֵ֥ר לֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

S21 ¹³ Le mourant me bénissait,
je remplissais de joie le cœur de la veuve.

WLC ¹³ בִּרְכַּ֣ת אֹ֭בֵד עָלַ֣י תָּבֹ֑א וְלֵ֖ב אַלְמָנָ֣ה אַרְנִֽן׃

KJV ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.

S21 ¹⁴ Je me revêtais de la justice, elle était pour moi un habit.
Mon manteau et mon turban, c'était mon respect du droit.

WLC ¹⁴ צֶ֣דֶק לָ֭בַשְׁתִּי וַיִּלְבָּשֵׁ֑נִי כִּֽמְעִ֥יל וְ֝צָנִ֗יף מִשְׁפָּטִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.

S21 ¹⁵ J'étais les yeux de l'aveugle
et les pieds du boiteux.

WLC ¹⁵ עֵינַ֣יִם הָ֭יִיתִי לַֽעִוֵּ֑ר וְרַגְלַ֖יִם לַפִּסֵּ֣חַ אָֽנִי׃

KJV ¹⁶ I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.

S21 ¹⁶ J'étais un père pour les pauvres,
j'examinais la cause d'un inconnu.

WLC ¹⁶ אָ֣ב אָ֭נֹכִֽי לָֽאֶבְיוֹנִ֑ים וְרִ֖ב לֹא־ יָדַ֣עְתִּי אֶחְקְרֵֽהוּ׃

KJV ¹⁷ And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.

S21 ¹⁷ Je brisais les mâchoires de l'homme injuste
et j'arrachais la proie de ses dents.

WLC ¹⁷ וָֽ֭אֲשַׁבְּרָה מְתַלְּע֣וֹת עַוָּ֑ל וּ֝מִשִּׁנָּ֗יו אַשְׁלִ֥יךְ טָֽרֶף׃

KJV ¹⁸ Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.

S21 ¹⁸ »Je me disais alors: ‘Je mourrai dans mon foyer.
J'aurai des jours aussi abondants que le sable.

WLC ¹⁸ וָ֭אֹמַר עִם־ קִנִּ֣י אֶגְוָ֑ע וְ֝כַח֗וֹל אַרְבֶּ֥ה יָמִֽים׃

KJV ¹⁹ My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.

S21 ¹⁹ L'eau pourra pénétrer dans mes racines,
la rosée passera la nuit sur mes branches,

WLC ¹⁹ שָׁרְשִׁ֣י פָת֣וּחַ אֱלֵי־ מָ֑יִם וְ֝טַ֗ל יָלִ֥ין בִּקְצִירִֽי׃

KJV ²⁰ My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.

S21 ²⁰ ma gloire sera sans cesse nouvelle
et mon arc reprendra des forces dans ma main.'

WLC ²⁰ כְּ֭בוֹדִי חָדָ֣שׁ עִמָּדִ֑י וְ֝קַשְׁתִּ֗י בְּיָדִ֥י תַחֲלִֽיף׃

KJV ²¹ Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.

S21 ²¹ »On m'écoutait, plein d'attente,
on gardait le silence pour entendre mes conseils.

WLC ²¹ לִֽי־ שָׁמְע֥וּ וְיִחֵ֑לּוּ וְ֝יִדְּמ֗וּ לְמ֣וֹ עֲצָתִֽי׃

KJV ²² After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.

S21 ²² Après mes discours, personne ne répliquait,
et mes propos étaient aussi bienfaisants que la rosée pour eux.

WLC ²² אַחֲרֵ֣י דְ֭בָרִי לֹ֣א יִשְׁנ֑וּ וְ֝עָלֵ֗ימוֹ תִּטֹּ֥ף מִלָּתִֽי׃

KJV ²³ And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

S21 ²³ Ils comptaient sur moi comme sur la pluie,
ils buvaient mes paroles comme les dernières pluies.

WLC ²³ וְיִֽחֲל֣וּ כַמָּטָ֣ר לִ֑י וּ֝פִיהֶ֗ם פָּעֲר֥וּ לְמַלְקֽוֹשׁ׃

KJV ²⁴ If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.

S21 ²⁴ Je leur souriais et ils n'osaient pas y croire.
Rien ne pouvait altérer le rayonnement de mon visage.

WLC ²⁴ אֶשְׂחַ֣ק אֲ֭לֵהֶם לֹ֣א יַאֲמִ֑ינוּ וְא֥וֹר פָּ֝נַ֗י לֹ֣א יַפִּילֽוּן׃

KJV ²⁵ I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth the mourners.

S21 ²⁵ Je choisissais le chemin à suivre pour eux et je m'asseyais à leur tête.
Je restais là comme un roi au milieu de sa troupe,
comme un consolateur auprès des personnes endeuillées.

WLC ²⁵ אֶֽבֲחַ֣ר דַּרְכָּם֮ וְאֵשֵׁ֪ב רֹ֥אשׁ וְ֭אֶשְׁכּוֹן כְּמֶ֣לֶךְ בַּגְּד֑וּד כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר אֲבֵלִ֣ים יְנַחֵֽם׃
