WLC ¹ וְֽאוּלָ֗ם שְׁמַֽע־ נָ֣א אִיּ֣וֹב מִלָּ֑י וְֽכָל־ דְּבָרַ֥י הַאֲזִֽינָה׃

KJV ² Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.

S21 ² J'ai ouvert la bouche,
les mots se bousculent dans mon palais.

WLC ² הִנֵּה־ נָ֭א פָּתַ֣חְתִּי פִ֑י דִּבְּרָ֖ה לְשׁוֹנִ֣י בְחִכִּֽי׃

KJV ³ My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.

S21 ³ C'est un cœur droit qui inspirera mes paroles,
c'est un savoir pur que mes lèvres exprimeront:

WLC ³ יֹֽשֶׁר־ לִבִּ֥י אֲמָרָ֑י וְדַ֥עַת שְׂ֝פָתַ֗י בָּר֥וּר מִלֵּֽלוּ׃

KJV ⁴ The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

S21 ⁴ l'Esprit de Dieu m'a créé,
le souffle du Tout-Puissant m'anime.

WLC ⁴ רֽוּחַ־ אֵ֥ל עָשָׂ֑תְנִי וְנִשְׁמַ֖ת שַׁדַּ֣י תְּחַיֵּֽנִי׃

KJV ⁵ If thou canst answer me, set thy words in order before me, stand up.

S21 ⁵ Si tu le peux, réponds-moi,
prends tes dispositions, tiens-toi prêt!

WLC ⁵ אִם־ תּוּכַ֥ל הֲשִׁיבֵ֑נִי עֶרְכָ֥ה לְ֝פָנַ֗י הִתְיַצָּֽבָה׃

KJV ⁶ Behold, I am according to thy wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay.

S21 ⁶ Devant Dieu je suis ton semblable,
j'ai été comme toi tiré de la boue;

WLC ⁶ הֵן־ אֲנִ֣י כְפִ֣יךָ לָאֵ֑ל מֵ֝חֹ֗מֶר קֹרַ֥צְתִּי גַם־ אָֽנִי׃

KJV ⁷ Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon thee.

S21 ⁷ ainsi, mes terreurs ne te tourmenteront pas
et mon autorité ne pèsera pas sur toi.

WLC ⁷ הִנֵּ֣ה אֵ֭מָתִי לֹ֣א תְבַעֲתֶ֑ךָּ וְ֝אַכְפִּ֗י עָלֶ֥יךָ לֹא־ יִכְבָּֽד׃

KJV ⁸ Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of thy words, saying,

S21 ⁸ »Cependant, tu as bien dit devant moi,
et j'entends encore le son de tes paroles:

WLC ⁸ אַ֭ךְ אָמַ֣רְתָּ בְאָזְנָ֑י וְק֖וֹל מִלִּ֣ין אֶשְׁמָֽע׃

KJV ⁹ I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.

S21 ⁹ ‘Je suis pur, je n'ai pas commis de transgression.
Je suis irréprochable, je n'ai pas commis de faute.

WLC ⁹ זַ֥ךְ אֲנִ֗י בְּֽלִ֫י פָ֥שַׁע חַ֥ף אָנֹכִ֑י וְלֹ֖א עָוֺ֣ן לִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁰ Behold, he findeth occasions against me, he counteth me for his enemy,

S21 ¹⁰ Pourtant, Dieu a trouvé des raisons de s'en prendre à moi,
il me traite comme son ennemi:

WLC ¹⁰ הֵ֣ן תְּ֭נוּאוֹת עָלַ֣י יִמְצָ֑א יַחְשְׁבֵ֖נִי לְאוֹיֵ֣ב לֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹¹ He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.

S21 ¹¹ il met mes pieds dans des entraves,
il surveille tous mes mouvements.'

WLC ¹¹ יָשֵׂ֣ם בַּסַּ֣ד רַגְלָ֑י יִ֝שְׁמֹ֗ר כָּל־ אָרְחֹתָֽי׃

KJV ¹² Behold, in this thou art not just: I will answer thee, that God is greater than man.

S21 ¹² »Je te répondrai que sur ce point-là, tu as tort.
En effet, Dieu est plus grand que l'homme.

WLC ¹² הֶן־ זֹ֣את לֹא־ צָדַ֣קְתָּ אֶעֱנֶ֑ךָּ כִּֽי־ יִרְבֶּ֥ה אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַ מֵאֱנֽוֹשׁ׃

KJV ¹³ Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.

S21 ¹³ Pourquoi donc entrer en procès avec lui
parce qu'il ne rend aucun compte de ses actes?

WLC ¹³ מַ֭דּוּעַ אֵלָ֣יו רִיב֑וֹתָ כִּ֥י כָל־ דְּ֝בָרָ֗יו לֹ֣א־ יַעֲנֶֽה׃

KJV ¹⁴ For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.

S21 ¹⁴ »Dieu parle cependant, tantôt d'une manière,
tantôt d'une autre, et on ne le remarque pas.

WLC ¹⁴ כִּֽי־ בְאַחַ֥ת יְדַבֶּר־ אֵ֑ל וּ֝בִשְׁתַּ֗יִם לֹ֣א יְשׁוּרֶֽנָּה׃

KJV ¹⁵ In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;

S21 ¹⁵ Il parle par des rêves, par des visions nocturnes,
quand un sommeil profond tombe sur les hommes,
quand ils sont endormis sur leur lit.

WLC ¹⁵ בַּחֲל֤וֹם ׀ חֶזְי֬וֹן לַ֗יְלָה בִּנְפֹ֣ל תַּ֭רְדֵּמָה עַל־ אֲנָשִׁ֑ים בִּ֝תְנוּמ֗וֹת עֲלֵ֣י מִשְׁכָּֽב׃

KJV ¹⁶ Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction,

S21 ¹⁶ Il leur communique alors son message
et confirme les avertissements qu'il leur donne.

WLC ¹⁶ אָ֣ז יִ֭גְלֶה אֹ֣זֶן אֲנָשִׁ֑ים וּבְמֹ֖סָרָ֣ם יַחְתֹּֽם׃

KJV ¹⁷ That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

S21 ¹⁷ Il veut ainsi détourner l'homme de sa manière de faire.
Il évite à l'homme fort de tomber dans l'orgueil,

WLC ¹⁷ לְ֭הָסִיר אָדָ֣ם מַעֲשֶׂ֑ה וְגֵוָ֖ה מִגֶּ֣בֶר יְכַסֶּֽה׃

KJV ¹⁸ He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

S21 ¹⁸ il préserve son âme de la tombe
et sa vie de la menace du javelot.

WLC ¹⁸ יַחְשֹׂ֣ךְ נַ֭פְשׁוֹ מִנִּי־ שָׁ֑חַת וְ֝חַיָּת֗וֹ מֵעֲבֹ֥ר בַּשָּֽׁלַח׃

KJV ¹⁹ He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:

S21 ¹⁹ »Par la douleur aussi, l'homme est corrigé, quand il est cloué au lit,
quand tous ses os s'engourdissent.

WLC ¹⁹ וְהוּכַ֣ח בְּ֭מַכְאוֹב עַל־ מִשְׁכָּב֑וֹ עֲצָמָ֣יו אֵתָֽן׃

KJV ²⁰ So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty meat.

S21 ²⁰ Alors il prend en dégoût la nourriture,
même les aliments les plus désirables.

WLC ²⁰ וְזִֽהֲמַ֣תּוּ חַיָּת֣וֹ לָ֑חֶם וְ֝נַפְשׁ֗וֹ מַאֲכַ֥ל תַּאֲוָֽה׃

KJV ²¹ His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.

S21 ²¹ Sa chair dépérit à vue d'œil,
ses os qu'on ne voyait pas transparaissent.

WLC ²¹ יִ֣כֶל בְּשָׂר֣וֹ מֵרֹ֑אִי עַ֝צְמוֹתָ֗יו לֹ֣א רֻאּֽוּ׃

KJV ²² Yea, his soul draweth near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.

S21 ²² Son âme s'approche de la tombe,
et sa vie des messagers de la mort.

WLC ²² וַתִּקְרַ֣ב לַשַּׁ֣חַת נַפְשׁ֑וֹ וְ֝חַיָּת֗וֹ לַֽמְמִתִֽים׃

KJV ²³ If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his uprightness:

S21 ²³ Cependant, s'il y a pour lui un ange intercesseur,
ne serait-ce qu'un sur les mille
qui annoncent à l'homme le chemin à suivre,

WLC ²³ אִם־ יֵ֤שׁ עָלָ֨יו ׀ מַלְאָ֗ךְ מֵלִ֗יץ אֶחָ֥ד מִנִּי־ אָ֑לֶף לְהַגִּ֖יד לְאָדָ֣ם יָשְׁרֽוֹ׃

KJV ²⁴ Then he is gracious unto him, and saith, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.

S21 ²⁴ Dieu lui fait grâce et dit:
‘Délivre-le afin qu'il ne descende pas dans la tombe!
J'ai trouvé une rançon.'

WLC ²⁴ וַיְחֻנֶּ֗נּוּ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר פְּ֭דָעֵהוּ מֵרֶ֥דֶת שָׁ֗חַת מָצָ֥אתִי כֹֽפֶר׃

KJV ²⁵ His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth:

S21 ²⁵ »Son corps retrouve alors la fraîcheur de la jeunesse,
il revient à l'époque de son adolescence.

WLC ²⁵ רֻֽטֲפַ֣שׁ בְּשָׂר֣וֹ מִנֹּ֑עַר יָ֝שׁ֗וּב לִימֵ֥י עֲלוּמָֽיו׃

KJV ²⁶ He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.

S21 ²⁶ Il adresse sa prière à Dieu et il reçoit un accueil favorable;
il entre dans la présence de Dieu avec des cris de joie
et Dieu le déclare à nouveau juste.

WLC ²⁶ יֶעְתַּ֤ר אֶל־ אֱל֨וֹהַּ ׀ וַיִּרְצֵ֗הוּ וַיַּ֣רְא פָּ֭נָיו בִּתְרוּעָ֑ה וַיָּ֥שֶׁב לֶ֝אֱנ֗וֹשׁ צִדְקָתֽוֹ׃

KJV ²⁷ He looketh upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;

S21 ²⁷ Il chante devant les hommes et dit:
‘J'ai péché, j'ai perverti ce qui était droit,
et je n'ai pas été traité comme je le méritais.

WLC ²⁷ יָשֹׁ֤ר ׀ עַל־ אֲנָשִׁ֗ים וַיֹּ֗אמֶר חָ֭טָאתִי וְיָשָׁ֥ר הֶעֱוֵ֗יתִי וְלֹא־ שָׁ֥וָה לִֽי׃

KJV ²⁸ He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

S21 ²⁸ Dieu a racheté mon âme pour qu'elle n'aille pas dans la tombe
et ma vie peut contempler la lumière!'

WLC ²⁸ פָּדָ֣ה מֵעֲבֹ֣ר בַּשָּׁ֑חַת בָּא֥וֹר תִּרְאֶֽה׃

KJV ²⁹ Lo, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,

S21 ²⁹ »Voilà tout ce que Dieu fait,
deux fois, trois fois, avec un homme

WLC ²⁹ הֶן־ כָּל־ אֵ֭לֶּה יִפְעַל־ אֵ֑ל פַּעֲמַ֖יִם שָׁל֣וֹשׁ עִם־ גָּֽבֶר׃

KJV ³⁰ To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.

S21 ³⁰ pour écarter son âme de la tombe
et pour qu'il jouisse encore de la lumière des vivants.

WLC ³⁰ לְהָשִׁ֣יב נַ֭פְשׁוֹ מִנִּי־ שָׁ֑חַת לֵ֝א֗וֹר בְּא֣וֹר הַֽחַיִּים׃

KJV ³¹ Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I will speak.

S21 ³¹ »Sois attentif, Job, écoute-moi!
Tais-toi, et c'est moi qui parlerai!

WLC ³¹ הַקְשֵׁ֖ב אִיּ֥וֹב שְֽׁמַֽע־ לִ֑י הַ֝חֲרֵ֗שׁ וְאָנֹכִ֥י אֲדַבֵּֽר׃

KJV ³² If thou hast anything to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee.

S21 ³² Si tu as quelque chose à dire, réponds-moi!
Parle, car je serais heureux de te donner raison.

WLC ³² אִם־ יֵשׁ־ מִלִּ֥ין הֲשִׁיבֵ֑נִי דַּ֝בֵּ֗ר כִּֽי־ חָפַ֥צְתִּי צַדְּקֶֽךָּ׃

KJV ³³ If not, hearken unto me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.

S21 ³³ Si tu n'as rien à dire, écoute-moi!
Tais-toi et je t'enseignerai la sagesse.»

WLC ³³ אִם־ אַ֭יִן אַתָּ֥ה שְֽׁמַֽע־ לִ֑י הַ֝חֲרֵ֗שׁ וַאֲאַלֶּפְךָ֥ חָכְמָֽה׃
