KJV ² Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

VULC ² [Audite, sapientes, verba mea :
et eruditi, auscultate me.

BCC ³ Car l'oreille juge les paroles, comme le palais discerne les aliments.

KJV ³ For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.

VULC ³ Auris enim verba probat,
et guttur escas gustu dijudicat.

BCC ⁴ Tâchons de discerner ce qui est juste ; cherchons entre nous ce qui est bon.

KJV ⁴ Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.

VULC ⁴ Judicium eligamus nobis,
et inter nos videamus quid sit melius.

BCC ⁵ Job a dit : "je suis innocent, et Dieu me refuse justice.

KJV ⁵ For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.

VULC ⁵ Quia dixit Job : Justus sum,
et Deus subvertit judicium meum.

BCC ⁶ Quand je soutiens mon droit, je passe pour menteur, ma plaie est douloureuse, sans que j'aie péché."

KJV ⁶ Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.

VULC ⁶ In judicando enim me mendacium est :
violenta sagitta mea absque ullo peccato.

BCC ⁷ Y a-t-il un homme semblable à Job ? Il boit le blasphème comme l'eau !

KJV ⁷ What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?

VULC ⁷ Quis est vir ut est Job,
qui bibit subsannationem quasi aquam :

BCC ⁸ Il s'associe aux artisans d'iniquité, il marche avec les hommes pervers.

KJV ⁸ Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.

VULC ⁸ qui graditur cum operantibus iniquitatem,
et ambulat cum viris impiis ?

BCC ⁹ Car il a dit : "Il ne sert de rien à l'homme de chercher la faveur de Dieu."

KJV ⁹ For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

VULC ⁹ Dixit enim : Non placebit vir Deo,
etiam si cucurrerit cum eo.

BCC ¹⁰ Écoutez-moi donc, hommes sensés : Loin de Dieu l'iniquité ! Loin du Tout-Puissant l'injustice !

KJV ¹⁰ Therefore hearken unto me ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

VULC ¹⁰ Ideo, viri cordati, audite me :
absit a Deo impietas,

et quomodo tu eum qui justus est in tantum condemnas ?

KJV ¹⁸ Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?

BCC ¹⁹ qui ne fait point acception de la personne des grands, qui ne regarde pas le riche plus que le pauvre, parce que tous sont l'ouvrage de ses mains ?

KJV ¹⁹ How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.

KJV ²² There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

KJV ²³ For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.

KJV ²⁴ He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.

BCC ²⁵ Il connaît donc leurs oeuvres ; il les renverse de nuit, et ils sont écrasés.

KJV ²⁵ Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

VULC ²⁵ Novit enim opera eorum,
et idcirco inducet noctem, et conterentur.

BCC ²⁶ Il les frappe comme des impies, en un lieu où on les regarde,

KJV ²⁶ He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;

VULC ²⁶ Quasi impios percussit eos
in loco videntium :

BCC ²⁷ parce qu'en se détournant de lui, en refusant de connaître toutes ses voies,

KJV ²⁷ Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:

VULC ²⁷ qui quasi de industria recesserunt ab eo,
et omnes vias ejus intelligere noluerunt :

BCC ²⁸ ils ont fait monter vers lui le cri du pauvre, ils l'ont rendu attentif au cri des malheureux.

KJV ²⁸ So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.

VULC ²⁸ ut pervenire facerent ad eum clamorem egeni,
et audiret vocem pauperum.

BCC ²⁹ S'il accorde la paix, qui le trouvera mauvais ; s'il cache son visage, qui pourra le contempler, qu'il soit peuple ou homme celui qu'il traite ainsi,

KJV ²⁹ When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:

VULC ²⁹ Ipso enim concedente pacem, quis est qui condemnet ?
ex quo absconderit vultum, quis est qui contempletur eum,
et super gentes, et super omnes homines ?

BCC ³⁰ pour mettre fin au règne de l'impie, pour qu'il ne soit plus un piège pour le peuple ?

KJV ³⁰ That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.

VULC ³⁰ Qui regnare facit hominem hypocritam
propter peccata populi.

BCC ³¹ Or avait-il dit à Dieu : "J'ai été châtié, je ne pécherai plus ;

KJV ³¹ Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:

VULC ³¹ Quia ergo ego locutus sum ad Deum,
te quoque non prohibebo.

BCC ³² montre-moi ce que j'ignore ; si j'ai commis l'iniquité, je ne le ferai plus ?"

KJV ³² That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

VULC ³² Si erravi, tu doce me ;
si iniquitatem locutus sum, ultra non addam.

BCC ³³ Est-ce d'après ton avis que Dieu doit rendre la justice de sorte que tu puisses rejeter son jugement ? Choisis à ton gré, et non pas moi ; ce que tu sais, expose-le.

KJV ³³ Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.

VULC ³³ Numquid a te Deus expetit eam, quia displicuit tibi ?
tu enim cœpisti loqui, et non ego :
quod si quid nosti melius, loquere.

BCC ³⁴ Les gens sensés me diront, ainsi que l'homme sage qui m'écoute :

KJV ³⁴ Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.

VULC ³⁴ Viri intelligentes loquantur mihi,
et vir sapiens audiat me.

BCC ³⁵ "Job a parlé sans intelligence, et ses discours sont dépourvus de sagesse.

KJV ³⁵ Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.

VULC ³⁵ Job autem stulte locutus est,
et verba illius non sonant disciplinam.

BCC ³⁶ Eh bien, que Job soit éprouvé jusqu'au bout, puisque ses réponses sont celles d'un impie !

KJV ³⁶ My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.

KJV ³⁷ For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.

inter nos interim constringatur :
et tunc ad judicium provocet sermonibus suis Deum.]
