BCC ² Écoutez, écoutez le fracas de sa voix, le grondement qui sort de sa bouche !

KJV ² Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goeth out of his mouth.

BCC ³ Il lui donne libre carrière sous l'immensité des cieux, et son éclair brille jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.

KJV ³ He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.

BCC ⁴ Puis éclate un rugissement, il tonne de sa voix majestueuse ; il ne retient plus les éclairs, quand on entend sa voix ;

KJV ⁴ After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard.

BCC ⁵ Dieu tonne de sa voix, d'une manière merveilleuse. Il fait de grandes choses que nous ne comprenons pas.

KJV ⁵ God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.

BCC ⁶ Il dit à la neige : "tombe sur la terre ;" il commande aux ondées et aux pluies torrentielles.

KJV ⁶ For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.

BCC ⁷ Il met un sceau sur la main de tous les hommes, afin que tout mortel reconnaisse son Créateur.

KJV ⁷ He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.

BCC ⁸ Alors l'animal sauvage rentre dans son repaire, et demeure dans sa tanière.

KJV ⁸ Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places.

BCC ⁹ L'ouragan sort de ses retraites cachées, l'aquilon amène les frimas.

KJV ⁹ Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.

BCC ¹⁰ Au souffle de Dieu se forme la glace, et la masse des eaux est emprisonnée.

KJV ¹⁰ By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.

BCC ¹¹ Il charge de vapeurs les nuages, il disperse ses nuées lumineuses.

KJV ¹¹ Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:

BCC ¹² On les voit, selon ses décrets, errer en tous sens, pour exécuter tout ce qu'il leur commande, sur la face de la terre habitée.

KJV ¹² And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth.

BCC ¹³ C'est tantôt pour le châtiment de sa terre, et tantôt en signe de faveur qu'il les envoie.

KJV ¹³ He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.

BCC ¹⁴ Job, sois attentif à ces choses ; arrête-toi, et considère les merveilles de Dieu.

KJV ¹⁴ Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.

BCC ¹⁵ Sais-tu comment il les opère, et fait briller l'éclair dans la nue ?

KJV ¹⁵ Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?

BCC ¹⁶ Comprends-tu le balancement des nuages, les merveilles de celui dont la science est parfaite,

KJV ¹⁶ Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?

BCC ¹⁷ toi dont les vêtements sont chauds, quand la terre se repose au souffle du midi ?

KJV ¹⁷ How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south wind?

BCC ¹⁸ Peux-tu, comme lui, étendre les nuées, et les rendre solides comme un miroir d'airain ?

KJV ¹⁸ Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?

BCC ¹⁹ Fais-nous connaître ce que nous devons lui dire : nous ne saurions lui parler, ignorants que nous sommes.

KJV ¹⁹ Teach us what we shall say unto him; for we cannot order our speech by reason of darkness.

BCC ²⁰ Ah ! Qu'on ne lui rapporte pas mes discours ! Un homme a-t-il jamais dit qu'il désirait sa perte ?

KJV ²⁰ Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely he shall be swallowed up.

BCC ²¹ On ne peut voir maintenant la lumière du soleil, qui luit derrière les nuages ; qu'un vent passe, il les dissipe.

KJV ²¹ And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.

BCC ²² L'or vient du septentrion ; mais Dieu, que sa majesté est redoutable !

KJV ²² Fair weather cometh out of the north: with God is terrible majesty.

BCC ²³ Le Tout-Puissant, nous ne pouvons l'atteindre : il est grand en force, et en droit, et en justice, il ne répond à personne !

KJV ²³ Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.

BCC ²⁴ Que les hommes donc le révèlent ! Il ne regarde pas ceux qui se croient sages.

KJV ²⁴ Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.

BCC ¹ Alors Yahweh répondit à Job du sein de la tempête, et dit :

KJV ¹ Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

BCC ² Quel est celui qui obscurcit ainsi le plan divin, par des discours sans intelligence ?

KJV ² Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

BCC ³ Ceins tes reins, comme un homme : je vais t'interroger, et tu m'instruiras.

KJV ³ Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

BCC ⁴ Où étais-tu quand je posais les fondements de la terre ? Dis-le, si tu as l'intelligence.

KJV ⁴ Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

BCC ⁵ Qui en a fixé les dimensions ? Le sais-tu ? Qui a tendu sur le cordeau ?

KJV ⁵ Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

BCC ⁶ Sur quoi ses bases reposent-elles, ou qui en a posé la pierre angulaire,

KJV ⁶ Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

BCC ⁷ quand les astres du matin chantaient en choeur, et que tous les fils de Dieu poussaient des cris d'allégresse ?

KJV ⁷ When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

BCC ⁸ Qui a fermé la mer avec des portes, lorsqu'elle sortit impétueuse du sein maternel ;

KJV ⁸ Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

BCC ⁹ quand je lui donnai les nuages pour vêtements, et pour langes d'épais brouillards ;

KJV ⁹ When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,

BCC ¹⁰ quand je lui imposai ma loi, que je lui mis des portes et des verrous,

KJV ¹⁰ And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

BCC ¹¹ et que je lui dis : "Tu viendras jusqu'ici, non au delà ; ici s'arrêtera l'orgueil de tes flots"?

KJV ¹¹ And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

BCC ¹² As-tu, depuis que tu existes, commandé au matin ? As-tu indiqué sa place à l'aurore,

KJV ¹² Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;

BCC ¹³ pour qu'elle saisisse les extrémités de la terre et qu'elle en secoue les méchants ;

KJV ¹³ That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

BCC ¹⁴ pour que la terre prenne forme, comme l'argile sous le cachet, et qu'elle se montre parée comme d'un vêtement ;

KJV ¹⁴ It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.

BCC ¹⁵ pour que les malfaiteurs soient privés de leur lumière, et que le bras levé pour le crime soit brisé ?

KJV ¹⁵ And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.

BCC ¹⁶ Es-tu descendu jusqu'aux sources de la mer, t'es-tu promené dans les profondeurs de l'abîme ?

KJV ¹⁶ Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?

BCC ¹⁷ Les portes de la mort se sont-elles ouvertes devant toi, as-tu vu les portes du sombre séjour ?

KJV ¹⁷ Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?

BCC ¹⁸ As-tu embrassé l'étendue de la terre ? Parle, si tu sais toutes ces choses.

KJV ¹⁸ Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.

BCC ¹⁹ Où est le chemin qui conduit au séjour de la lumière, et où se trouve la demeure des ténèbres ?

KJV ¹⁹ Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,

BCC ²⁰ Tu pourrais les saisir en leur domaine, tu connais les sentiers de leur séjour !...

KJV ²⁰ That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?

BCC ²¹ Tu le sais sans doute, puisque tu étais né avant elles ; le nombre de tes jours est si grand !

KJV ²¹ Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?

BCC ²² Es-tu entré dans les trésors de la neige ? As-tu vu les réservoirs de la grêle,

KJV ²² Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

BCC ²³ que je tiens prêtes pour le temps de la détresse, pour les jours de la guerre et du combat ?

KJV ²³ Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

BCC ²⁴ Par quelle voie la lumière se divise-t-elle, et le vent d'orient se répand-il sur la terre ?

KJV ²⁴ By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?

BCC ²⁵ Qui a ouvert des canaux aux ondées, et tracé une route aux feux du tonnerre,

KJV ²⁵ Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;

BCC ²⁶ afin que la pluie tombe sur une terre inhabitée, sur le désert où il n'y a point d'hommes ;

KJV ²⁶ To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;

BCC ²⁷ pour qu'elle arrose la plaine vaste et vide, et y fasse germer l'herbe verte !

KJV ²⁷ To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

BCC ²⁸ La pluie a-t-elle un père ? Qui engendre les gouttes de la rosée ?

KJV ²⁸ Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?

BCC ²⁹ De quel sein sort la glace ? Et le givre du ciel, qui l'enfante,

KJV ²⁹ Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?

BCC ³⁰ pour que les eaux durcissent comme la pierre, et que la surface de l'abîme se solidifie ?

KJV ³⁰ The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

BCC ³¹ Est-ce toi qui serres les liens des Pléiades, ou pourrais-tu relâcher les chaînes d'Orion ?

KJV ³¹ Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

BCC ³² Est-ce toi qui fais lever les constellations en leur temps, qui conduis l'Ourse avec ses petits ?

KJV ³² Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?

BCC ³³ Connais-tu les lois du ciel, règles-tu ses influences sur la terre ?

KJV ³³ Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

BCC ³⁴ Elèves-tu ta voix jusque dans les nues, pour que des torrents d'eau tombent sur toi ?

KJV ³⁴ Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?

BCC ³⁵ Est-ce toi qui lâches les éclairs pour qu'ils partent, et te disent-ils : "nous voici !"

KJV ³⁵ Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go and say unto thee, Here we are?

BCC ³⁶ Qui a mis la sagesse dans les nuées, ou qui a donné l'intelligence aux météores ?

KJV ³⁶ Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?

BCC ³⁷ Qui peut exactement compter les nuées, incliner les urnes du ciel,

KJV ³⁷ Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,

BCC ³⁸ pour que la poussière se forme en masse solide et que les glèbes adhèrent ensemble ?

KJV ³⁸ When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?

BCC ¹ Est-ce toi qui chasses pour la lionne sa proie, qui rassasies la faim des lionceaux,

KJV ¹ Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?

BCC ² quand ils sont couchés dans leur tanière, qu'ils se tiennent en embuscade dans le taillis ?

KJV ² Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?

BCC ³ Qui prépare au corbeau sa pâture, quand ses petits crient vers Dieu, qu'ils errent çà et là, sans nourriture ?

KJV ³ They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.

BCC ⁴ Connais-tu le temps où les chèvres sauvages font leurs petits ? As-tu observé les biches quand elles mettent bas ?

KJV ⁴ Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.

BCC ⁵ As-tu compté les mois de leur portée, et connais-tu l'époque de leur délivrance ?

KJV ⁵ Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?

BCC ⁶ Elles se mettent à genoux, déposent leurs petits, et sont quittes de leurs douleurs.

KJV ⁶ Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.

BCC ⁷ Leurs faons se fortifient et grandissent dans les champs ; ils s'en vont, et ne reviennent plus.

KJV ⁷ He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.

BCC ⁸ Qui a lâché l'onagre en liberté, qui a brisé les liens de l'âne sauvage,

KJV ⁸ The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.

BCC ⁹ à qui j'ai donné le désert pour maison, pour demeure la plaine salée ?

KJV ⁹ Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?

BCC ¹⁰ Il méprise le tumulte des villes, il n'entend pas les cris d'un maître.

KJV ¹⁰ Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?

BCC ¹¹ Il parcourt les montagnes pour trouver sa pâture, il y poursuit les moindres traces de verdure.

KJV ¹¹ Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?

BCC ¹² Le buffle voudra-t-il te servir, ou bien passera-t-il la nuit dans son étable ?

KJV ¹² Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?

BCC ¹³ L'attacheras-tu avec une corde au sillon, ou bien hersera-t-il derrière toi dans les vallées ?

KJV ¹³ Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?

BCC ¹⁴ Te fieras-tu à lui parce qu'il est très fort, lui laisseras-tu faire tes travaux ?

KJV ¹⁴ Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,

BCC ¹⁵ Compteras-tu sur lui pour rentrer ta moisson, pour recueillir le blé dans ton aire ?

KJV ¹⁵ And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.

BCC ¹⁶ L'aile de l'autruche bat joyeusement ; elle n'a ni l'aile pieuse ni le plumage de la cigogne.

KJV ¹⁶ She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not her's: her labour is in vain without fear;

BCC ¹⁷ Elle abandonne ses oeufs à la terre, et les laisse chauffer sur le sable.

KJV ¹⁷ Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.

BCC ¹⁸ Elle oublie que le pied peut les fouler, la bête des champs les écraser.

KJV ¹⁸ What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.

BCC ¹⁹ Elle est dure pour ses petits, comme s'ils n'étaient pas siens ; que son travail soit vain, elle ne s'en inquiète pas.

KJV ¹⁹ Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?

BCC ²⁰ Car Dieu lui a refusé la sagesse, et ne lui a pas départi l'intelligence.

KJV ²⁰ Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.

BCC ²¹ Mais quand elle se bat les flancs et prend son essor, elle se rit du cheval et du cavalier.

KJV ²¹ He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.

BCC ²² Est-ce toi qui donnes au cheval la vigueur, qui revêts son cou d'une crinière flottante,

KJV ²² He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.

BCC ²³ qui le fais bondir comme la sauterelle ? Son fier hennissement répand la terreur.

KJV ²³ The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.

BCC ²⁴ Il creuse du pied la terre, il est fier de sa force, il s'élance au-devant du combat.

KJV ²⁴ He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.

BCC ²⁵ Il se rit de la peur ; rien ne l'effraie ; il ne recule pas devant l'épée.

KJV ²⁵ He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

BCC ²⁶ Sur lui résonne le carquois, la lance étincelante et le javelot.

KJV ²⁶ Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?

BCC ²⁷ Il frémit, il s'agit, il dévore le sol ; il ne se contient plus quand la trompette sonne.

KJV ²⁷ Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?

BCC ²⁸ Au bruit de la trompette, il dit : "Allons !" De loin il flaire la bataille, la voix tonnante des chefs et les cris des guerriers.

KJV ²⁸ She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.

BCC ²⁹ Est-ce par ta sagesse que l'épervier prend son vol et déploie ses ailes vers le midi ?

KJV ²⁹ From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.

BCC ³⁰ Est-ce à ton ordre que l'aigle s'élève, et fait son nid sur les hauteurs ?

KJV ³⁰ Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.

BCC ³¹ Il habite les rochers, il fixe sa demeure dans les dents de la pierre, sur les sommets.

BCC ³² De là, il guette sa proie, son regard perce au loin.

BCC ³³ Ses petits s'abreuvent de sang ; partout où il y a des cadavres, on le trouve.

BCC ³⁴ Yahweh s'adressant à Job, dit :

BCC ³⁵ Le censeur du Tout-Puissant veut-il encore plaider contre lui ? Celui qui dispute avec Dieu peut-il répondre ?

BCC ³⁶ Job répondit à Yahweh, en disant :

BCC ³⁷ Chétif que je suis, que te répondrai-je ? Je mets la main sur ma bouche.

BCC ³⁸ J'ai parlé une fois, je ne répliquerai pas ; deux fois, je n'ajouterai rien.

KJV ³⁹ Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,

KJV ⁴⁰ When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?

KJV ⁴¹ Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.
