KJV ² Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goeth out of his mouth.

OST ² Écoutez, écoutez le bruit de sa voix, et le grondement qui sort de sa bouche!

KJV ³ He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.

OST ³ Il l'envoie sous tous les cieux, et son éclair va jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.

KJV ⁴ After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard.

OST ⁴ Puis, sa voix rugit; il tonne de sa voix magnifique, et il n'épargne pas ses éclairs, quand retentit sa voix.

KJV ⁵ God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.

OST ⁵ Dieu tonne de sa voix merveilleusement; il fait de grandes choses, que nous ne comprenons pas.

KJV ⁶ For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.

OST ⁶ Il dit à la neige: Tombe sur la terre; il le dit aux ondées, aux fortes ondées.

KJV ⁷ He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.

OST ⁷ Il ferme la main de tous les hommes, afin que tous les hommes, ses créatures, le connaissent,

KJV ⁸ Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places.

OST ⁸ Et les bêtes se retirent dans leurs tanières, et elles demeurent dans leurs repaires.

KJV ⁹ Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.

OST ⁹ Des profondeurs du Sud vient la tempête, et des vents du Nord vient le froid;

KJV ¹⁰ By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.

OST ¹⁰ Par son souffle, Dieu forme la glace, et l'eau qui s'étendait est resserrée.

KJV ¹¹ Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:

OST ¹¹ Il charge d'humidité la nue; il disperse les nuages, pleins de ses éclairs,

KJV ¹² And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth.

OST ¹² Et ceux-ci se promènent de tous côtés, selon ses directions, pour faire tout ce qu'il commande, sur la face de la terre habitée;

KJV ¹³ He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.

OST ¹³ Que ce soit pour châtier, ou pour rendre sa terre fertile, ou pour exercer sa bonté, il leur fait atteindre le but.

KJV ¹⁴ Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.

OST ¹⁴ Prête l'oreille à cela, Job: arrête-toi, et considère les merveilles de Dieu.

KJV ¹⁵ Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?

OST ¹⁵ Sais-tu comment Dieu les prépare, comment il fait briller la lumière de sa nue?

KJV ¹⁶ Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?

OST ¹⁶ Sais-tu comment se balancent les nuages, cette merveille de celui dont la science est parfaite?

KJV ¹⁷ How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south wind?

OST ¹⁷ Comment tes vêtements sont chauds quand il endort la terre par le vent du Midi?

KJV ¹⁸ Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?

OST ¹⁸ As-tu étendu avec lui les cieux, fermes comme un miroir de métal?

KJV ¹⁹ Teach us what we shall say unto him; for we cannot order our speech by reason of darkness.

OST ¹⁹ Apprends-nous donc ce que nous devons dire de lui: car nous ne saurions préparer des discours du sein de nos ténèbres.

KJV ²⁰ Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely he shall be swallowed up.

OST ²⁰ Voudrais-je qu'on lui rapportât ce que je dis? Jamais homme voulut-il être englouti?

KJV ²¹ And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.

OST ²¹ Et maintenant on ne peut regarder le soleil brillant dans les cieux, quand un vent a passé et les a purifiés,

KJV ²² Fair weather cometh out of the north: with God is terrible majesty.

OST ²² Quand une lueur d'or vient du septentrion. Il y a en Dieu une majesté redoutable.

KJV ²³ Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.

OST ²³ Le Tout-Puissant! nous ne pouvons l'atteindre; il est sublime en puissance, en droit, en justice; il n'opprime personne.

KJV ²⁴ Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.

OST ²⁴ C'est pourquoi les hommes le craignent. Mais il ne regarde pas ceux qui sont sages en leur coeur.

KJV ¹ Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

OST ¹ Alors l'Éternel répondit à Job du sein de la tempête, et dit:

KJV ² Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

OST ² Qui est celui-ci qui obscurcit mes plans par des discours sans science?

KJV ³ Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

OST ³ Ceins donc tes reins comme un vaillant homme, je t'interrogerai, et tu m'instruiras.

KJV ⁴ Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

OST ⁴ Où étais-tu quand je jetais les fondations de la terre? Dis-le, si tu as de l'intelligence.

KJV ⁵ Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

OST ⁵ Qui en a réglé les mesures, si tu le sais, ou qui a étendu le niveau sur elle?

KJV ⁶ Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

OST ⁶ Sur quoi en a-t-on fait plonger les bases, ou qui en a posé la pierre angulaire,

KJV ⁷ When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

OST ⁷ Quand les étoiles du matin poussaient ensemble des cris de joie, et les fils de Dieu, des acclamations?

KJV ⁸ Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

OST ⁸ Et qui renferma la mer dans des portes, quand elle sortit en s'élançant du sein de la terre;

KJV ⁹ When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,

OST ⁹ Quand je lui donnai la nuée pour vêtement, et l'obscurité pour langes;

KJV ¹⁰ And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

OST ¹⁰ Quand j'établis ma loi sur elle, quand je lui mis des verrous et des portes,

KJV ¹¹ And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

OST ¹¹ Et que je lui dis: Tu viendras jusqu'ici, et tu n'iras pas plus loin; ici s'arrêtera l'orgueil de tes flots?

KJV ¹² Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;

OST ¹² Depuis que tu es au monde, as-tu commandé au matin, as-tu marqué à l'aurore sa place,

KJV ¹³ That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

OST ¹³ Pour qu'elle saisisse les extrémités de la terre, et que les méchants soient chassés?

KJV ¹⁴ It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.

OST ¹⁴ La terre change de forme comme l'argile sous le cachet, et toutes choses se lèvent comme pour la vêtir.

KJV ¹⁵ And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.

OST ¹⁵ La lumière des méchants leur est ôtée, et le bras des menaçants est rompu.

KJV ¹⁶ Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?

OST ¹⁶ As-tu pénétré jusqu'aux sources de la mer, et t'es-tu promené au fond de l'abîme?

KJV ¹⁷ Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?

OST ¹⁷ Les portes de la mort se sont-elles découvertes à toi? Et as-tu vu les portes de l'ombre de la mort?

KJV ¹⁸ Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.

OST ¹⁸ As-tu compris l'étendue de la terre? Si tu sais tout cela, dis-le!

KJV ¹⁹ Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,

OST ¹⁹ Où est le chemin du séjour de la lumière? Et les ténèbres, où est leur demeure?

KJV ²⁰ That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?

OST ²⁰ Car tu peux les ramener à leur domaine, et tu connais les sentiers de leur maison!

KJV ²¹ Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?

OST ²¹ Tu le sais; car alors tu étais né, et le nombre de tes jours est grand!

KJV ²² Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

OST ²² As-tu pénétré jusqu'aux trésors de neige? Et as-tu vu les trésors de grêle,

KJV ²³ Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

OST ²³ Que je réserve pour les temps de détresse, pour le jour de la bataille et du combat?

KJV ²⁴ By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?

OST ²⁴ Par quels chemins se partage la lumière, et le vent d'orient se répand-il sur la terre?

KJV ²⁵ Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;

OST ²⁵ Qui a donné à l'averse ses canaux, et sa voie à l'éclair des tonnerres,

KJV ²⁶ To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;

OST ²⁶ Pour faire pleuvoir sur une terre sans habitants, sur un désert sans hommes,

KJV ²⁷ To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

OST ²⁷ Pour abreuver des lieux déserts et désolés, et faire germer et sortir l'herbe?

KJV ²⁸ Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?

OST ²⁸ La pluie a-t-elle un père? Ou, qui enfante les gouttes de rosée?

KJV ²⁹ Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?

OST ²⁹ De quel sein est sortie la glace? Et qui enfante le givre du ciel?

KJV ³⁰ The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

OST ³⁰ Les eaux se dissimulent, changées en pierre, et la surface de l'abîme se prend.

KJV ³¹ Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

OST ³¹ Peux-tu resserrer les liens des Pléiades, ou détacher les chaînes d'Orion?

KJV ³² Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?

OST ³² Fais-tu sortir en leur temps les signes du zodiaque? Et conduis-tu la grande Ourse avec ses petits?

KJV ³³ Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

OST ³³ Connais-tu les lois du ciel? Ou disposes-tu de son pouvoir sur la terre?

KJV ³⁴ Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?

OST ³⁴ Élèves-tu ta voix vers la nuée, pour que des eaux abondantes te couvrent?

KJV ³⁵ Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go and say unto thee, Here we are?

OST ³⁵ Envoies-tu les éclairs? Partent-ils, et te disent-ils: Nous voici?

KJV ³⁶ Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?

OST ³⁶ Qui a mis la sagesse dans les nues, qui a donné au météore l'intelligence?

KJV ³⁷ Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,

OST ³⁷ Qui compte les nuages avec sagesse, qui incline les outres des cieux,

KJV ³⁸ When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?

OST ³⁸ Quand la poussière se délaie et se met en fusion, et que les mottes s'agglomèrent?

KJV ³⁹ Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,

KJV ⁴⁰ When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?

KJV ⁴¹ Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.

KJV ¹ Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?

OST ¹ Chasses-tu pour le lion sa proie, et assouvis-tu la faim des lionceaux,

KJV ² Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?

OST ² Quand ils se tapissent dans leurs repaires, quand ils sont aux aguets dans les fourrés?

KJV ³ They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.

OST ³ Qui apprête la nourriture au corbeau, quand ses petits crient vers Dieu et volent çà et là, n'ayant rien à manger?

KJV ⁴ Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.

OST ⁴ Sais-tu le temps où les chamois mettent bas? As-tu observé quand les biches faonnent?

KJV ⁵ Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?

OST ⁵ As-tu compté les mois de leur portée, et sais-tu le temps où elles mettent bas?

KJV ⁶ Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.

OST ⁶ Elles se courbent, elles font sortir leurs petits, et se délivrent de leurs douleurs;

KJV ⁷ He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.

OST ⁷ Leurs petits se fortifient, ils croissent en plein air, ils s'en vont et ne reviennent plus vers elles.

KJV ⁸ The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.

OST ⁸ Qui a lâché l'onagre en liberté, et qui a délié les liens de cet animal farouche,

KJV ⁹ Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?

OST ⁹ A qui j'ai donné la steppe pour demeure, et la terre salée pour habitation?

KJV ¹⁰ Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?

OST ¹⁰ Il se rit du bruit de la ville; il n'entend pas les clameurs de l'ânier.

KJV ¹¹ Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?

OST ¹¹ Il parcourt les montagnes qui sont ses pâturages, il cherche partout de la verdure.

KJV ¹² Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?

OST ¹² Le buffle veut-il te servir? Passe-t-il la nuit auprès de ta crèche?

KJV ¹³ Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?

OST ¹³ Attaches-tu le buffle par la corde au sillon? Herse-t-il tes champs en te suivant?

KJV ¹⁴ Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,

OST ¹⁴ Te fies-tu à lui parce que sa force est grande, et lui abandonnes-tu ton travail?

KJV ¹⁵ And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.

OST ¹⁵ Comptes-tu sur lui pour rentrer ton grain, et pour l'amasser sur ton aire?

KJV ¹⁶ She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not her's: her labour is in vain without fear;

OST ¹⁶ L'aile de l'autruche s'agite joyeusement; est-ce l'aile et la plume de la cigogne?

KJV ¹⁷ Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.

OST ¹⁷ Non, car elle abandonne ses oeufs à terre, elle les fait couver sur la poussière;

KJV ¹⁸ What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.

OST ¹⁸ Elle oublie qu'un pied peut les fouler, une bête des champs les écraser.

KJV ¹⁹ Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?

OST ¹⁹ Elle est dure envers ses petits, comme s'ils n'étaient pas siens. Son travail est vain, elle ne s'en inquiète pas.

KJV ²⁰ Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.

OST ²⁰ Car Dieu l'a privée de sagesse, et ne lui a point départi d'intelligence.

KJV ²¹ He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.

OST ²¹ Quand elle se lève, et bat des ailes, elle se moque du cheval et de son cavalier.

KJV ²² He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.

OST ²² As-tu donné au cheval sa vigueur? As-tu revêtu son cou de la crinière frémissante?

KJV ²³ The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.

OST ²³ Le fais-tu bondir comme la sauterelle? Son fier hennissement donne la terreur.

KJV ²⁴ He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.

OST ²⁴ De son pied il creuse la terre; il se réjouit en sa force; il va à la rencontre de l'homme armé;

KJV ²⁵ He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

OST ²⁵ Il se rit de la crainte, il n'a peur de rien; il ne recule point devant l'épée.

KJV ²⁶ Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?

OST ²⁶ Sur lui retentit le carquois, la lance étincelante et le javelot.

KJV ²⁷ Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?

OST ²⁷ Bondissant et frémissant, il dévore l'espace; il ne peut se contenir dès que la trompette sonne;

KJV ²⁸ She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.

OST ²⁸ Dès qu'il entend la trompette, il hennit; il sent de loin la bataille, la voix tonnante des chefs et les clameurs des guerriers.

KJV ²⁹ From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.

OST ²⁹ Est-ce par ta sagesse que l'épervier prend son vol, et déploie ses ailes vers le Midi?

KJV ³⁰ Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.

OST ³⁰ Est-ce sur ton ordre que l'aigle s'élève, et qu'il place son aire sur les hauteurs?

OST ³¹ Il habite sur les rochers, il se tient sur la dent des rochers, sur les lieux inaccessibles.

OST ³² De là, il découvre sa proie; ses yeux la voient de loin.

OST ³³ Ses petits sucent le sang, et partout où il y a des corps morts, il s'y trouve.

OST ³⁴ L'Éternel adressa la parole à Job, et dit:

OST ³⁵ Le censeur contestera-t-il avec le Tout-Puissant? L'accusateur de Dieu répondra-t-il à cela?

OST ³⁶ Alors Job répondit à l'Éternel et dit:

OST ³⁷ Je suis trop peu de chose; que te répondrais-je? Je mets ma main sur ma bouche.

OST ³⁸ J'ai parlé une fois, et je ne répondrai plus. J'ai parlé deux fois, et je n'y retournerai plus.
