KJV ³ He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.

S21 ³ Il le fait rouler dans toute l'étendue du ciel
et son éclair brille jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.

KJV ⁴ After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard.

S21 ⁴ Puis éclate un rugissement: il tonne de sa voix majestueuse;
il ne retient plus l'éclair, dès que sa voix retentit.

KJV ⁵ God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.

S21 ⁵ »Dieu tonne avec sa voix d'une manière merveilleuse.
Il fait de grandes choses que nous sommes incapables de connaître.

KJV ⁶ For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.

S21 ⁶ Il dit à la neige: ‘Tombe sur la terre!'
Il le dit aussi à la pluie, même aux plus fortes pluies.

KJV ⁷ He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.

S21 ⁷ Il interrompt ainsi l'activité de tous les hommes
afin que tous se reconnaissent comme son œuvre.

KJV ⁸ Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places.

S21 ⁸ »L'animal sauvage se retire dans une grotte
et se couche dans sa tanière.

KJV ⁹ Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.

S21 ⁹ Le tourbillon vient du sud
et le froid vient des vents du nord.

KJV ¹⁰ By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.

S21 ¹⁰ Par son souffle Dieu produit la glace
et la surface de l'eau se fige.

KJV ¹¹ Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:

S21 ¹¹ Il charge les nuages d'humidité,
puis il les disperse, traversés d'éclairs;

KJV ¹² And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth.

S21 ¹² leurs évolutions varient suivant ses directives
pour l'exécution de tous ses ordres
à la surface de la terre habitée.

KJV ¹³ He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.

S21 ¹³ C'est comme un instrument de discipline pour la terre
ou comme une marque de bonté qu'il les fait apparaître.

KJV ¹⁴ Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.

S21 ¹⁴ »Job, prête l'oreille à ces paroles!
Reste tranquille et considère les merveilles de Dieu!

KJV ¹⁵ Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?

S21 ¹⁵ Sais-tu comment Dieu les contrôle?
Sais-tu comment il fait briller l'éclair?

KJV ¹⁶ Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?

S21 ¹⁶ Sais-tu comment les nuages se tiennent en équilibre?
Ce sont les actes merveilleux de celui qui connaît tout parfaitement.

KJV ¹⁷ How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south wind?

S21 ¹⁷ Pourquoi tes habits sont-ils chauds
quand la terre se repose par le vent du sud?

KJV ¹⁸ Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?

S21 ¹⁸ Peux-tu comme lui déployer le ciel,
aussi solide qu'un miroir en métal fondu?

KJV ¹⁹ Teach us what we shall say unto him; for we cannot order our speech by reason of darkness.

S21 ¹⁹ Fais-nous connaître ce que nous pourrions lui dire!
Nous manquerons d'arguments à cause des ténèbres de notre ignorance.

KJV ²⁰ Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely he shall be swallowed up.

S21 ²⁰ »Quand je parle, doit-on l'en avertir?
Mais un homme demande-t-il à être englouti?

KJV ²¹ And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them.

S21 ²¹ Soudain, on ne voit plus la lumière car elle est obscurcie par les nuages,
mais un vent souffle et les balaie.

KJV ²² Fair weather cometh out of the north: with God is terrible majesty.

S21 ²² Du nord survient une lumière dorée:
Dieu s'entoure d'une splendeur redoutable.

KJV ²³ Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.

S21 ²³ Nous ne pouvons atteindre le Tout-Puissant.
Sa grandeur se manifeste dans sa force,
mais le droit et la parfaite justice, il ne les maltraite pas.

KJV ²⁴ Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.

S21 ²⁴ Voilà pourquoi les hommes doivent le craindre;
il reste indifférent à tous ceux qui se croient sages.»

KJV ¹ Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

KJV ² Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

S21 ² «Qui est celui qui obscurcit mes plans
par des discours dépourvus de savoir?

KJV ³ Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

S21 ³ Mets donc une ceinture autour de ta taille comme un vaillant homme!
Je t'interrogerai et tu me renseigneras.

KJV ⁴ Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

S21 ⁴ »Où étais-tu quand j'ai fondé la terre?
Déclare-le, puisque tu es si intelligent!

KJV ⁵ Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

S21 ⁵ Qui a fixé ses dimensions? Tu le sais, n'est-ce pas?
Ou qui a déplié le ruban à mesurer sur elle?

KJV ⁶ Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

S21 ⁶ Sur quoi ses bases reposent-elles?
Ou qui en a posé la pierre angulaire

KJV ⁷ When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

et que tous les fils de Dieu poussaient des cris de joie?

KJV ⁸ Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

KJV ⁹ When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,

KJV ¹⁰ And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

et imposé verrou et portes,

KJV ¹¹ And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

S21 ¹¹ quand j'ai dit: ‘Tu pourras venir jusqu'ici, tu n'iras pas plus loin.
Ici s'arrêtera l'orgueil de tes vagues'?

KJV ¹² Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;

S21 ¹² »Depuis que tu existes, as-tu donné des ordres au matin?
As-tu montré sa place à l'aurore

KJV ¹³ That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

S21 ¹³ pour qu'elle attrape les bords de la terre
et que les méchants en tombent?

KJV ¹⁴ It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.

S21 ¹⁴ Tout se transforme alors, comme l'argile qui reçoit une empreinte,
et l'ensemble se présente comme paré d'un habit.

KJV ¹⁵ And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.

S21 ¹⁵ Quant aux méchants, ils sont privés de leur lumière,
et le bras prêt à agir est brisé.

KJV ¹⁶ Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?

S21 ¹⁶ »As-tu pénétré jusqu'aux sources de la mer?
T'es-tu promené dans les profondeurs du gouffre?

KJV ¹⁷ Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?

S21 ¹⁷ Les portes de la mort t'ont-elles été dévoilées?
As-tu vu les portes de l'ombre de la mort?

KJV ¹⁸ Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.

S21 ¹⁸ As-tu perçu toute la largeur de la terre?
Déclare-le, si tu sais tout cela!

KJV ¹⁹ Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,

S21 ¹⁹ »Où est donc le chemin qui conduit à l'habitation de la lumière?
Et les ténèbres, où ont-elles leur domicile

KJV ²⁰ That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?

S21 ²⁰ pour que tu puisses les conduire vers leur territoire
et discerner les sentiers qui mènent chez elles?

KJV ²¹ Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?

S21 ²¹ Tu le sais, puisque tu étais déjà né
et que le nombre de tes jours est si grand!

KJV ²² Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

S21 ²² »Es-tu parvenu jusqu'aux réserves de neige?
As-tu vu les dépôts de grêle

KJV ²³ Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

S21 ²³ que je tiens en réserve pour les moments de détresse,
pour les jours de guerre et de bataille?

KJV ²⁴ By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?

S21 ²⁴ Par quel chemin la lumière se divise-t-elle
et le vent d'est déferle-t-il sur la terre?

KJV ²⁵ Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;

S21 ²⁵ Qui a ouvert un passage pour les averses,
un chemin pour l'éclair et le tonnerre,

KJV ²⁶ To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;

S21 ²⁶ pour que la pluie tombe sur une terre sans habitants,
sur un désert où il n'y a pas d'êtres humains,

KJV ²⁷ To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

S21 ²⁷ pour qu'elle rassasie les endroits solitaires et arides
et fasse pousser et sortir l'herbe?

KJV ²⁸ Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of dew?

Qui donc fait naître les gouttes de rosée?

KJV ²⁹ Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?

KJV ³⁰ The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

KJV ³¹ Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

KJV ³² Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with his sons?

S21 ³² Fais-tu paraître au moment voulu les constellations du zodiaque 
et conduis-tu la Grande Ourse avec ses petits?

KJV ³³ Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set the dominion thereof in the earth?

S21 ³³ Connais-tu les règles du ciel?
Peux-tu instaurer l'autorité de Dieu sur la terre?

KJV ³⁴ Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?

S21 ³⁴ Peux-tu élever ta voix jusqu'aux nuages
pour que des torrents d'eau te couvrent?

KJV ³⁵ Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go and say unto thee, Here we are?

S21 ³⁵ As-tu lancé des éclairs? Sont-ils partis?
Te disent-ils: ‘Nous voici'?

KJV ³⁶ Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?

ou donné l'intelligence à l'esprit?

KJV ³⁷ Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,

S21 ³⁷ Qui a la sagesse nécessaire pour compter les nuages?
Qui peut faire pencher les cruches du ciel

KJV ³⁸ When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?

et coller ensemble les mottes de terre?

KJV ³⁹ Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,

et satisfais-tu l'appétit des lionceaux

KJV ⁴⁰ When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?

quand ils sont aux aguets dans leur repaire?

KJV ⁴¹ Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.

S21 ⁴¹ Qui prépare au corbeau sa nourriture
quand ses petits crient vers Dieu
et vacillent, affamés?

KJV ¹ Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?

S21 ¹ »Sais-tu quand les bouquetins font leurs petits?
Observes-tu les biches quand elles mettent bas?

KJV ² Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?

S21 ² Comptes-tu les mois pendant lesquels elles portent
et connais-tu l'époque où elles mettent bas?

KJV ³ They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.

S21 ³ Elles se courbent, libèrent leurs petits
et sont délivrées de leurs douleurs.

KJV ⁴ Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.

S21 ⁴ Leurs petits prennent des forces et grandissent en plein air,
puis ils s'éloignent et ne reviennent plus vers elles.

KJV ⁵ Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?

S21 ⁵ »Qui a rendu l'âne sauvage indépendant
et l'a libéré de tout lien?

KJV ⁶ Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.

S21 ⁶ J'ai fait de la steppe son domicile,

KJV ⁷ He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.

il n'entend pas les cris d'un maître.

KJV ⁸ The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.

S21 ⁸ Il parcourt les montagnes pour trouver sa nourriture,
il est à la recherche de tout ce qui est vert.

KJV ⁹ Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?

S21 ⁹ »Le buffle désire-t-il être à ton service?
Passe-t-il la nuit près de ta mangeoire?

KJV ¹⁰ Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?

S21 ¹⁰ L'attaches-tu avec une corde pour qu'il trace un sillon?
Traînera-t-il la herse derrière toi dans les vallées?

KJV ¹¹ Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?

S21 ¹¹ Pourras-tu t'appuyer sur lui parce que sa force est grande?
Lui laisseras-tu ton travail?

KJV ¹² Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?

S21 ¹² Peux-tu te fier à lui pour rentrer ta récolte?
La rassemblera-t-il dans ton aire de battage?

KJV ¹³ Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?

S21 ¹³ »L'aile des autruches se déploie joyeusement.
On dirait l'aile, le plumage de la cigogne.

KJV ¹⁴ Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,

S21 ¹⁴ Cependant, l'autruche abandonne ses œufs à la terre
et les laisse chauffer sur la poussière.

KJV ¹⁵ And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.

S21 ¹⁵ Elle oublie qu'un pied peut les écraser,
qu'une bête sauvage peut les piétiner.

KJV ¹⁶ She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not her's: her labour is in vain without fear;

S21 ¹⁶ Elle traite durement ses petits, comme s'ils n'étaient pas à elle.
Elle n'est pas inquiète à l'idée d'avoir travaillé pour rien.

KJV ¹⁷ Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.

S21 ¹⁷ En effet, Dieu lui a refusé la sagesse,
il ne lui a pas attribué l'intelligence.

KJV ¹⁸ What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.

S21 ¹⁸ Quand elle se dresse et prend sa course,
elle se moque du cheval et de son cavalier.

KJV ¹⁹ Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?

S21 ¹⁹ »Est-ce toi qui donnes la puissance au cheval
et qui habilles son cou d'une crinière flottante?

KJV ²⁰ Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.

S21 ²⁰ Le fais-tu bondir comme la sauterelle?
Son fier hennissement est source de terreur.

KJV ²¹ He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.

S21 ²¹ Il trépigne dans la vallée et se réjouit de sa force,
il s'élance au-devant des armes.

KJV ²² He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.

S21 ²² Il se moque de la peur, il n'est pas effrayé,
il ne recule pas devant l'épée.

KJV ²³ The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.

S21 ²³ Sur lui résonnent le carquois,
la lance étincelante et le javelot.

KJV ²⁴ He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.

S21 ²⁴ Bouillonnant d'ardeur, il dévore l'espace.
Il ne tient pas en place quand le son de la trompette retentit.

KJV ²⁵ He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

KJV ²⁶ Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?

et déploie ses ailes en direction du sud?

KJV ²⁷ Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?

S21 ²⁷ Est-ce sur ton ordre que l'aigle royal prend de la hauteur
et place son nid sur les sommets?

KJV ²⁸ She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.

S21 ²⁸ C'est dans les rochers qu'il réside et passe les nuits,
c'est sur une dent de rocher qu'il a sa forteresse.

KJV ²⁹ From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.

S21 ²⁹ De là il cherche sa proie.
Ses yeux l'aperçoivent de loin.

KJV ³⁰ Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.

S21 ³⁰ Ses petits boivent le sang
et *là où sont des cadavres, là il se trouve.»
