DRB ¹ Et Éliphaz, le Thémanite, répondit et dit :

KJV ¹ Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

WLC ¹ וַ֭יַּעַן אֱלִיפַ֥ז הַֽתֵּימָנִ֗י וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

DRB ² Si nous essayons de t'adresser une parole, en seras-tu irrité ? Mais qui pourrait se retenir de parler ?

KJV ² If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?

WLC ² הֲנִסָּ֬ה דָבָ֣ר אֵלֶ֣יךָ תִּלְאֶ֑ה וַעְצֹ֥ר בְּ֝מִלִּ֗ין מִ֣י יוּכָֽל׃

DRB ³ Voici, tu en as enseigné beaucoup, et tu as fortifié les mains languissantes ;

KJV ³ Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.

WLC ³ הִ֭נֵּה יִסַּ֣רְתָּ רַבִּ֑ים וְיָדַ֖יִם רָפ֣וֹת תְּחַזֵּֽק׃

DRB ⁴ Tes paroles ont tenu droit celui qui chancelait, et tu as affermi les genoux qui ployaient ;

KJV ⁴ Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.

WLC ⁴ כּ֭וֹשֵׁל יְקִימ֣וּן מִלֶּ֑יךָ וּבִרְכַּ֖יִם כֹּרְע֣וֹת תְּאַמֵּֽץ׃

DRB ⁵ Mais maintenant [le malheur] est venu sur toi, et tu es irrité ; il t'atteint, et tu es troublé.

KJV ⁵ But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.

WLC ⁵ כִּ֤י עַתָּ֨ה ׀ תָּב֣וֹא אֵלֶ֣יךָ וַתֵּ֑לֶא תִּגַּ֥ע עָ֝דֶ֗יךָ וַתִּבָּהֵֽל׃

DRB ⁶ Ta crainte [de Dieu] n'est-elle pas ta confiance, et l'intégrité* de tes voies, ton espérance ?

KJV ⁶ Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?

WLC ⁶ הֲלֹ֣א יִ֭רְאָתְךָ כִּסְלָתֶ֑ךָ תִּ֝קְוָתְךָ֗ וְתֹ֣ם דְּרָכֶֽיךָ׃

DRB ⁷ Souviens-toi, je te prie, qui a péri étant innocent ? et où les hommes droits ont-ils été détruits ?

KJV ⁷ Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?

WLC ⁷ זְכָר־ נָ֗א מִ֤י ה֣וּא נָקִ֣י אָבָ֑ד וְ֝אֵיפֹ֗ה יְשָׁרִ֥ים נִכְחָֽדוּ׃

DRB ⁸ Selon ce que j'ai vu, ceux qui labourent l'iniquité et qui sèment la misère, la moissonnent.

KJV ⁸ Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.

WLC ⁸ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר רָ֭אִיתִי חֹ֣רְשֵׁי אָ֑וֶן וְזֹרְעֵ֖י עָמָ֣ל יִקְצְרֻֽהוּ׃

DRB ⁹ Ils périssent par le souffle de #Dieu, et sont consumés par le souffle de ses narines.

KJV ⁹ By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.

WLC ⁹ מִנִּשְׁמַ֣ת אֱל֣וֹהַ יֹאבֵ֑דוּ וּמֵר֖וּחַ אַפּ֣וֹ יִכְלֽוּ׃

DRB ¹⁰ Le rugissement du lion et la voix du [lion] rugissant [sont étouffés], et les dents des jeunes lions sont brisées ;

KJV ¹⁰ The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.

WLC ¹⁰ שַׁאֲגַ֣ת אַ֭רְיֵה וְק֣וֹל שָׁ֑חַל וְשִׁנֵּ֖י כְפִירִ֣ים נִתָּֽעוּ׃

DRB ¹¹ Le fort lion périt faute de proie, et les petits de la lionne sont dispersés.

KJV ¹¹ The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.

WLC ¹¹ לַ֭יִשׁ אֹבֵ֣ד מִבְּלִי־ טָ֑רֶף וּבְנֵ֥י לָ֝בִ֗יא יִתְפָּרָֽדוּ׃

DRB ¹² Une parole vint à moi secrètement, et mon oreille en saisit la susurration,

KJV ¹² Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.

WLC ¹² וְ֭אֵלַי דָּבָ֣ר יְגֻנָּ֑ב וַתִּקַּ֥ח אָ֝זְנִ֗י שֵׁ֣מֶץ מֶֽנְהֽוּ׃

DRB ¹³ Au milieu des pensées que font naître les visions de la nuit, quand un sommeil profond tombe sur les hommes ;

KJV ¹³ In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,

WLC ¹³ בִּ֭שְׂעִפִּים מֵחֶזְיֹנ֣וֹת לָ֑יְלָה בִּנְפֹ֥ל תַּ֝רְדֵּמָ֗ה עַל־ אֲנָשִֽׁים׃

DRB ¹⁴ La frayeur vint sur moi, et le frisson, et elle fit trembler la multitude de mes os ;

KJV ¹⁴ Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.

WLC ¹⁴ פַּ֣חַד קְ֭רָאַנִי וּרְעָדָ֑ה וְרֹ֖ב עַצְמוֹתַ֣י הִפְחִֽיד׃

DRB ¹⁵ Et un esprit passa devant moi : les cheveux de ma chair se dressèrent.

KJV ¹⁵ Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:

WLC ¹⁵ וְ֭רוּחַ עַל־ פָּנַ֣י יַחֲלֹ֑ף תְּ֝סַמֵּ֗ר שַֽׂעֲרַ֥ת בְּשָׂרִֽי׃

DRB ¹⁶ Il se tint là ; je ne reconnus pas son apparence : une forme était devant mes yeux. J'entendis un léger murmure et une voix :

KJV ¹⁶ It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,

WLC ¹⁶ יַעֲמֹ֤ד ׀ וְֽלֹא־ אַכִּ֬יר מַרְאֵ֗הוּ תְּ֭מוּנָה לְנֶ֣גֶד עֵינָ֑י דְּמָמָ֖ה וָק֣וֹל אֶשְׁמָֽע׃

DRB ¹⁷ Un mortel sera-t-il plus juste que #Dieu, l'homme sera-t-il plus pur que celui qui l'a fait ?

KJV ¹⁷ Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?

WLC ¹⁷ הַֽ֭אֱנוֹשׁ מֵאֱל֣וֹהַ יִצְדָּ֑ק אִ֥ם מֵ֝עֹשֵׂ֗הוּ יִטְהַר־ גָּֽבֶר׃

DRB ¹⁸ Voici, il ne se fie pas à ses serviteurs, et ses anges il les charge de folie ;

KJV ¹⁸ Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:

WLC ¹⁸ הֵ֣ן בַּ֭עֲבָדָיו לֹ֣א יַאֲמִ֑ין וּ֝בְמַלְאָכָ֗יו יָשִׂ֥ים תָּהֳלָֽה׃

DRB ¹⁹ Combien plus à ceux qui habitent dans des maisons d'argile dont le fondement est dans la poussière, qui sont écrasés comme la teigne !

KJV ¹⁹ How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?

WLC ¹⁹ אַ֤ף ׀ שֹׁכְנֵ֬י בָֽתֵּי־ חֹ֗מֶר אֲשֶׁר־ בֶּעָפָ֥ר יְסוֹדָ֑ם יְ֝דַכְּא֗וּם לִפְנֵי־ עָֽשׁ׃

DRB ²⁰ Du matin au soir, ils sont frappés ; ils périssent pour toujours sans qu'on y fasse attention.

KJV ²⁰ They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it.

WLC ²⁰ מִבֹּ֣קֶר לָעֶ֣רֶב יֻכַּ֑תּוּ מִבְּלִ֥י מֵ֝שִׂ֗ים לָנֶ֥צַח יֹאבֵֽדוּ׃

DRB ²¹ Leurs cordes* ne leur sont-elles pas arrachées ? Ils meurent, et sans sagesse.

KJV ²¹ Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.

WLC ²¹ הֲלֹא־ נִסַּ֣ע יִתְרָ֣ם בָּ֑ם יָ֝מ֗וּתוּ וְלֹ֣א בְחָכְמָֽה׃
