BAN ² Qui m'a prévenu, pour que je doive m'acquitter envers lui ?
Ce qui est sous tous les cieux, est à moi !

KJV ² Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?

WLC ² לֹֽא־ אַ֭כְזָר כִּ֣י יְעוּרֶ֑נּוּ וּמִ֥י ה֝֗וּא לְפָנַ֥י יִתְיַצָּֽב׃

BAN ³ Je veux encore parler de ses membres,
Louer sa force et la beauté de sa structure.

KJV ³ Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee?

WLC ³ מִ֣י הִ֭קְדִּימַנִי וַאֲשַׁלֵּ֑ם תַּ֖חַת כָּל־ הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם לִי־ הֽוּא׃

BAN ⁴ Qui a soulevé le dessus de son vêtement ?
Qui pénétrera entre ses deux mâchoires ?

KJV ⁴ Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?

WLC ⁴ אַחֲרִ֥ישׁ בַּדָּ֑יו וּדְבַר־ גְּ֝בוּר֗וֹת וְחִ֣ין עֶרְכּֽוֹ׃

BAN ⁵ Qui ouvrira les portes de sa face ?
Autour de ses dents habite la terreur.

KJV ⁵ Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?

WLC ⁵ מִֽי־ גִ֭לָּה פְּנֵ֣י לְבוּשׁ֑וֹ בְּכֶ֥פֶל רִ֝סְנ֗וֹ מִ֣י יָבֽוֹא׃

BAN ⁶ Magnifiques sont les rangées de ses boucliers,
Etroitement unis comme par un sceau :

KJV ⁶ Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?

WLC ⁶ דַּלְתֵ֣י פָ֭נָיו מִ֣י פִתֵּ֑חַ סְבִיב֖וֹת שִׁנָּ֣יו אֵימָֽה׃

BAN ⁷ L'un touche à l'autre,
Et l'air ne pénètre pas entre eux.

KJV ⁷ Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?

WLC ⁷ גַּ֭אֲוָה אֲפִיקֵ֣י מָֽגִנִּ֑ים סָ֝ג֗וּר חוֹתָ֥ם צָֽר׃

BAN ⁸ Ils sont soudés ensemble,
Ils se tiennent et ne se laissent point séparer.

KJV ⁸ Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.

WLC ⁸ אֶחָ֣ד בְּאֶחָ֣ד יִגַּ֑שׁוּ וְ֝ר֗וּחַ לֹא־ יָב֥וֹא בֵֽינֵיהֶֽם׃

BAN ⁹ Ses éternuements produisent un jet de lumière,
Et ses yeux sont comme les paupières de l'aurore.

KJV ⁹ Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?

WLC ⁹ אִישׁ־ בְּאָחִ֥יהוּ יְדֻבָּ֑קוּ יִ֝תְלַכְּד֗וּ וְלֹ֣א יִתְפָּרָֽדוּ׃

BAN ¹⁰ Des brandons sortent de sa gueule ;
Des étincelles de feu s'en échappent.

KJV ¹⁰ None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?

WLC ¹⁰ עֲ‍ֽ֭טִישֹׁתָיו תָּ֣הֶל א֑וֹר וְ֝עֵינָ֗יו כְּעַפְעַפֵּי־ שָֽׁחַר׃

BAN ¹¹ De ses naseaux sort de la fumée,
Comme d'un pot bouillonnant et d'une chaudière.

KJV ¹¹ Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.

WLC ¹¹ מִ֭פִּיו לַפִּידִ֣ים יַהֲלֹ֑כוּ כִּיד֥וֹדֵי אֵ֝֗שׁ יִתְמַלָּֽטוּ׃

BAN ¹² Son souffle allumerait des charbons,
Et une flamme part de sa gueule.

KJV ¹² I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.

WLC ¹² מִ֭נְּחִירָיו יֵצֵ֣א עָשָׁ֑ן כְּד֖וּד נָפ֣וּחַ וְאַגְמֹֽן׃

BAN ¹³ Dans son cou réside la force,
Et devant lui bondit la frayeur.

KJV ¹³ Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle?

WLC ¹³ נַ֭פְשׁוֹ גֶּחָלִ֣ים תְּלַהֵ֑ט וְ֝לַ֗הַב מִפִּ֥יו יֵצֵֽא׃

BAN ¹⁴ Les fanons de sa chair sont fermes ;
Coulés sur lui, ils ne branlent pas.

KJV ¹⁴ Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.

WLC ¹⁴ בְּֽ֭צַוָּארוֹ יָלִ֣ין עֹ֑ז וּ֝לְפָנָ֗יו תָּד֥וּץ דְּאָבָֽה׃

BAN ¹⁵ Son coeur est dur comme la pierre,
Dur comme la meule de dessous.

KJV ¹⁵ His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.

WLC ¹⁵ מַפְּלֵ֣י בְשָׂר֣וֹ דָבֵ֑קוּ יָצ֥וּק עָ֝לָ֗יו בַּל־ יִמּֽוֹט׃

BAN ¹⁶ Quand il se lève, les forts ont peur ;
Ils s'enfuient éperdus.

KJV ¹⁶ One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.

WLC ¹⁶ לִ֭בּוֹ יָצ֣וּק כְּמוֹ־ אָ֑בֶן וְ֝יָצ֗וּק כְּפֶ֣לַח תַּחְתִּֽית׃

BAN ¹⁷ Quand on l'atteint de l'épée, elle n'a aucun effet,
Non plus que la lance, le dard et la cuirasse.

KJV ¹⁷ They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.

WLC ¹⁷ מִ֭שֵּׂתוֹ יָג֣וּרוּ אֵלִ֑ים מִ֝שְּׁבָרִ֗ים יִתְחַטָּֽאוּ׃

BAN ¹⁸ Il estime le fer comme de la paille,
L'airain comme du bois pourri.

KJV ¹⁸ By his neesings a light doth shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.

WLC ¹⁸ מַשִּׂיגֵ֣הוּ חֶ֭רֶב בְּלִ֣י תָק֑וּם חֲנִ֖ית מַסָּ֣ע וְשִׁרְיָֽה׃

BAN ¹⁹ La fille de l'arc ne le met pas en fuite ;
Les pierres de la fronde se changent pour lui en chaume.

KJV ¹⁹ Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.

WLC ¹⁹ יַחְשֹׁ֣ב לְתֶ֣בֶן בַּרְזֶ֑ל לְעֵ֖ץ רִקָּב֣וֹן נְחוּשָֽׁה׃

BAN ²⁰ Il ne fait pas plus de cas de la hache d'armes que du chaume
Et il se rit du frémissement du javelot.

KJV ²⁰ Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.

WLC ²⁰ לֹֽא־ יַבְרִיחֶ֥נּוּ בֶן־ קָ֑שֶׁת לְ֝קַ֗שׁ נֶהְפְּכוּ־ ל֥וֹ אַבְנֵי־ קָֽלַע׃

BAN ²¹ Son ventre est garni de tessons pointus ;
Il laisse sur le limon l'empreinte d'une herse.

KJV ²¹ His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth.

WLC ²¹ כְּ֭קַשׁ נֶחְשְׁב֣וּ תוֹתָ֑ח וְ֝יִשְׂחַ֗ק לְרַ֣עַשׁ כִּידֽוֹן׃

BAN ²² Il fait bouillonner le gouffre comme une chaudière ;
Il rend la mer semblable à un vase de parfumeur.

KJV ²² In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.

WLC ²² תַּ֭חְתָּיו חַדּ֣וּדֵי חָ֑רֶשׂ יִרְפַּ֖ד חָר֣וּץ עֲלֵי־ טִֽיט׃

BAN ²³ Il laisse après lui un sillage lumineux ;
On prendrait l'abîme pour une chevelure blanche.

KJV ²³ The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.

WLC ²³ יַרְתִּ֣יחַ כַּסִּ֣יר מְצוּלָ֑ה יָ֝֗ם יָשִׂ֥ים כַּמֶּרְקָחָֽה׃

BAN ²⁴ Il n'a pas son semblable sur la terre ;
Il a été fait pour être sans peur.

KJV ²⁴ His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone.

WLC ²⁴ אַ֭חֲרָיו יָאִ֣יר נָתִ֑יב יַחְשֹׁ֖ב תְּה֣וֹם לְשֵׂיבָֽה׃

BAN ²⁵ Il regarde en face tout ce qui est élevé ;
Il est le roi de tous les fauves orgueilleux.

KJV ²⁵ When he raiseth up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.

WLC ²⁵ אֵֽין־ עַל־ עָפָ֥ר מָשְׁל֑וֹ הֶ֝עָשׂ֗וּ לִבְלִי־ חָֽת׃

KJV ²⁶ The sword of him that layeth at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.

WLC ²⁶ אֵֽת־ כָּל־ גָּבֹ֥הַּ יִרְאֶ֑ה ה֝֗וּא מֶ֣לֶךְ עַל־ כָּל־ בְּנֵי־ שָֽׁחַץ׃

KJV ²⁷ He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.

KJV ²⁸ The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.

KJV ²⁹ Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.

KJV ³⁰ Sharp stones are under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.

KJV ³¹ He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.

KJV ³² He maketh a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.

KJV ³³ Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.

KJV ³⁴ He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.
