KJV ¹ Call now, if there be any that will answer thee; and to which of the saints wilt thou turn?

WLC ¹ קְֽרָא־ נָ֭א הֲיֵ֣שׁ עוֹנֶ֑ךָּ וְאֶל־ מִ֖י מִקְּדֹשִׁ֣ים תִּפְנֶֽה׃

DRB ² Car le chagrin fait mourir le sot, et la jalousie* tue le simple.

KJV ² For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.

WLC ² כִּֽי־ לֶֽ֭אֱוִיל יַהֲרָג־ כָּ֑עַשׂ וּ֝פֹתֶ֗ה תָּמִ֥ית קִנְאָֽה׃

DRB ³ J'ai vu le sot s'enraciner, et soudain j'ai maudit sa demeure ;

KJV ³ I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

WLC ³ אֲ‍ֽנִי־ רָ֭אִיתִי אֱוִ֣יל מַשְׁרִ֑ישׁ וָאֶקּ֖וֹב נָוֵ֣הוּ פִתְאֹֽם׃

DRB ⁴ Ses fils sont loin de la sûreté, et sont écrasés dans la porte, et il n'y a personne pour délivrer ;

KJV ⁴ His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.

WLC ⁴ יִרְחֲק֣וּ בָנָ֣יו מִיֶּ֑שַׁע וְיִֽדַּכְּא֥וּ בַ֝שַּׁ֗עַר וְאֵ֣ין מַצִּֽיל׃

DRB ⁵ Sa moisson, l'affamé la mange, et jusque parmi les épines il la prend ; et le piège guette son bien.

KJV ⁵ Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance.

WLC ⁵ אֲשֶׁ֤ר קְצִיר֨וֹ ׀ רָ֘עֵ֤ב יֹאכֵ֗ל וְאֶֽל־ מִצִּנִּ֥ים יִקָּחֵ֑הוּ וְשָׁאַ֖ף צַמִּ֣ים חֵילָֽם׃

DRB ⁶ Car l'affliction ne sort pas de la poussière, et la misère ne germe pas du sol ;

KJV ⁶ Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;

WLC ⁶ כִּ֤י ׀ לֹא־ יֵצֵ֣א מֵעָפָ֣ר אָ֑וֶן וּ֝מֵאֲדָמָ֗ה לֹא־ יִצְמַ֥ח עָמָֽל׃

DRB ⁷ Car l'homme est né pour la misère, comme les étincelles* volent en haut.

KJV ⁷ Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.

WLC ⁷ כִּֽי־ אָ֭דָם לְעָמָ֣ל יוּלָּ֑ד וּבְנֵי־ רֶ֝֗שֶׁף יַגְבִּ֥יהוּ עֽוּף׃

DRB ⁸ Mais moi je rechercherai *Dieu*, et devant Dieu je placerai ma cause, -

KJV ⁸ I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:

WLC ⁸ אוּלָ֗ם אֲ֭נִי אֶדְרֹ֣שׁ אֶל־ אֵ֑ל וְאֶל־ אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים אָשִׂ֥ים דִּבְרָתִֽי׃

DRB ⁹ Qui fait de grandes choses qu'on ne peut sonder, des merveilles à ne pouvoir les compter ;

KJV ⁹ Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number:

WLC ⁹ עֹשֶׂ֣ה גְ֭דֹלוֹת וְאֵ֣ין חֵ֑קֶר נִ֝פְלָא֗וֹת עַד־ אֵ֥ין מִסְפָּֽר׃

DRB ¹⁰ Qui donne la pluie sur la face de la terre, et envoie des eaux sur la face des campagnes,

KJV ¹⁰ Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:

WLC ¹⁰ הַנֹּתֵ֣ן מָ֭טָר עַל־ פְּנֵי־ אָ֑רֶץ וְשֹׁ֥לֵֽחַ מַ֝יִם עַל־ פְּנֵ֥י חוּצֽוֹת׃

DRB ¹¹ Plaçant en haut ceux qui sont abaissés ; et ceux qui sont en deuil sont élevés au bonheur.

KJV ¹¹ To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.

WLC ¹¹ לָשׂ֣וּם שְׁפָלִ֣ים לְמָר֑וֹם וְ֝קֹדְרִ֗ים שָׂ֣גְבוּ יֶֽשַׁע׃

DRB ¹² Il dissipe les projets des hommes rusés, et leurs mains n'accomplissent pas leurs conseils.

KJV ¹² He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.

WLC ¹² מֵ֭פֵר מַחְשְׁב֣וֹת עֲרוּמִ֑ים וְֽלֹא־ תַעֲשֶׂ֥ינָה יְ֝דֵיהֶ֗ם תּוּשִׁיָּֽה׃

DRB ¹³ Il prend les sages* dans leur ruse, et le conseil des astucieux est précipité** :

KJV ¹³ He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.

WLC ¹³ לֹכֵ֣ד חֲכָמִ֣ים בְּעָרְמָ֑ם וַעֲצַ֖ת נִפְתָּלִ֣ים נִמְהָֽרָה׃

DRB ¹⁴ De jour, ils rencontrent les ténèbres, et en plein midi ils marchent à tâtons, comme de nuit.

KJV ¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope in the noonday as in the night.

WLC ¹⁴ יוֹמָ֥ם יְפַגְּשׁוּ־ חֹ֑שֶׁךְ וְ֝כַלַּ֗יְלָה יְֽמַשְׁשׁ֥וּ בַֽצָּהֳרָֽיִם׃

DRB ¹⁵ Et il sauve le pauvre de l'épée, de leur bouche, et de la main du fort ;

KJV ¹⁵ But he saveth the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.

WLC ¹⁵ וַיֹּ֣שַׁע מֵ֭חֶרֶב מִפִּיהֶ֑ם וּמִיַּ֖ד חָזָ֣ק אֶבְיֽוֹן׃

DRB ¹⁶ Et il arrive au chétif ce qu'il espère, et l'iniquité a la bouche fermée.

KJV ¹⁶ So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

WLC ¹⁶ וַתְּהִ֣י לַדַּ֣ל תִּקְוָ֑ה וְ֝עֹלָ֗תָה קָ֣פְצָה פִּֽיהָ׃

DRB ¹⁷ Voici, bienheureux l'homme que #Dieu reprend ! Ne méprise donc pas le châtiment du Tout-puissant.

KJV ¹⁷ Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:

WLC ¹⁷ הִנֵּ֤ה אַשְׁרֵ֣י אֱ֭נוֹשׁ יוֹכִחֶ֣נּֽוּ אֱל֑וֹהַּ וּמוּסַ֥ר שַׁ֝דַּ֗י אַל־ תִּמְאָֽס׃

DRB ¹⁸ Car c'est lui qui fait la plaie et qui la bande ; il frappe, et ses mains guérissent.

KJV ¹⁸ For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.

WLC ¹⁸ כִּ֤י ה֣וּא יַכְאִ֣יב וְיֶחְבָּ֑שׁ יִ֝מְחַ֗ץ תִּרְפֶּֽינָה׃

DRB ¹⁹ En six détresses il te délivrera, et, dans sept, le mal ne t'atteindra pas.

KJV ¹⁹ He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

WLC ¹⁹ בְּשֵׁ֣שׁ צָ֭רוֹת יַצִּילֶ֑ךָּ וּבְשֶׁ֓בַע ׀ לֹא־ יִגַּ֖ע בְּךָ֣ רָֽע׃

DRB ²⁰ Dans la famine il te délivrera de la mort, et, dans la guerre, de la puissance* de l'épée.

KJV ²⁰ In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.

WLC ²⁰ בְּ֭רָעָב פָּֽדְךָ֣ מִמָּ֑וֶת וּ֝בְמִלְחָמָ֗ה מִ֣ידֵי חָֽרֶב׃

DRB ²¹ Tu seras à couvert du fouet de la langue, et tu ne craindras pas le désastre quand il viendra.

KJV ²¹ Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.

WLC ²¹ בְּשׁ֣וֹט לָ֭שׁוֹן תֵּחָבֵ֑א וְֽלֹא־ תִירָ֥א מִ֝שֹּׁ֗ד כִּ֣י יָבֽוֹא׃

DRB ²² Tu te riras du désastre et de la faim, et tu n'auras pas peur des bêtes de la terre ;

KJV ²² At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

WLC ²² לְשֹׁ֣ד וּלְכָפָ֣ן תִּשְׂחָ֑ק וּֽמֵחַיַּ֥ת הָ֝אָ֗רֶץ אַל־ תִּירָֽא׃

DRB ²³ Car tu auras une alliance avec les pierres des champs, et les bêtes des champs seront en paix avec toi.

KJV ²³ For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.

WLC ²³ כִּ֤י עִם־ אַבְנֵ֣י הַשָּׂדֶ֣ה בְרִיתֶ֑ךָ וְחַיַּ֥ת הַ֝שָּׂדֶ֗ה הָשְׁלְמָה־ לָֽךְ׃

DRB ²⁴ Tu sauras que ta tente est prospère, tu visiteras ta demeure* et tu n'y trouveras rien de manque,

KJV ²⁴ And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin.

WLC ²⁴ וְֽ֭יָדַעְתָּ כִּי־ שָׁל֣וֹם אָהֳלֶ֑ךָ וּֽפָקַדְתָּ֥ נָ֝וְךָ וְלֹ֣א תֶחֱטָֽא׃

DRB ²⁵ Et tu sauras que ta postérité est nombreuse, et tes rejetons, comme l'herbe de la terre.

KJV ²⁵ Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.

WLC ²⁵ וְֽ֭יָדַעְתָּ כִּי־ רַ֣ב זַרְעֶ֑ךָ וְ֝צֶאֱצָאֶ֗יךָ כְּעֵ֣שֶׂב הָאָֽרֶץ׃

DRB ²⁶ Tu entreras au sépulcre en bonne vieillesse, comme on enlève le tas de gerbes en sa saison.

KJV ²⁶ Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.

WLC ²⁶ תָּב֣וֹא בְכֶ֣לַח אֱלֵי־ קָ֑בֶר כַּעֲל֖וֹת גָּדִ֣ישׁ בְּעִתּֽוֹ׃

DRB ²⁷ Voici, nous avons examiné cela ; il en est ainsi. Écoute-le, et sache-le pour toi-même.

KJV ²⁷ Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.

WLC ²⁷ הִנֵּה־ זֹ֭את חֲקַרְנ֥וּהָ כֶּֽן־ הִ֑יא שְׁ֝מָעֶ֗נָּה וְאַתָּ֥ה דַֽע־ לָֽךְ׃
