KJV 1 Call now, if there be any that will answer thee; and to which of the saints wilt thou turn?

VULC 1 [Voca ergo, si est qui tibi respondeat,
et ad aliquem sanctorum convertere.

KJV 2 For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.

VULC 2 Vere stultum interficit iracundia,
et parvulum occidit invidia.

KJV 3 I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

VULC 3 Ego vidi stultum firma radice,
et maledixi pulchritudini ejus statim.

KJV 4 His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.

VULC 4 Longe fient filii ejus a salute,
et conterentur in porta,
et non erit qui eruat.

KJV 5 Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance.

VULC 5 Cujus messem famelicus comedet,
et ipsum rapiet armatus,
et bibent sitientes divitias ejus.

KJV 6 Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;

VULC 6 Nihil in terra sine causa fit,
et de humo non oritur dolor.

KJV 7 Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.

VULC 7 Homo nascitur ad laborem,
et avis ad volatum.

KJV 8 I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:

VULC 8 Quam ob rem ego deprecabor Dominum,
et ad Deum ponam eloquium meum :

KJV 9 Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number:

VULC 9 qui facit magna et inscrutabilia,
et mirabilia absque numero ;

KJV 10 Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:

VULC 10 qui dat pluviam super faciem terræ,
et irrigat aquis universa ;

KJV 11 To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.

VULC 11 qui ponit humiles in sublime,
et mœrentes erigit sospitate ;

KJV 12 He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.

VULC 12 qui dissipat cogitationes malignorum,
ne possint implere manus eorum quod cœperant ;

KJV 13 He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.

VULC 13 qui apprehendit sapientes in astutia eorum,
et consilium pravorum dissipat.

KJV 14 They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope in the noonday as in the night.

VULC 14 Per diem incurrent tenebras,
et quasi in nocte, sic palpabunt in meridie.

KJV 15 But he saveth the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.

VULC 15 Porro salvum faciet egenum a gladio oris eorum,
et de manu violenti pauperem.

KJV 16 So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

VULC 16 Et erit egeno spes ;
iniquitas autem contrahet os suum.

KJV 17 Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:

VULC 17 Beatus homo qui corripitur a Deo :
increpationem ergo Domini ne reprobes :

KJV 18 For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.

VULC 18 quia ipse vulnerat, et medetur ;
percutit, et manus ejus sanabunt.

KJV 19 He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

VULC 19 In sex tribulationibus liberabit te,
et in septima non tanget te malum.

KJV 20 In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.

VULC 20 In fame eruet te de morte,
et in bello de manu gladii.

KJV 21 Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.

VULC 21 A flagello linguæ absconderis,
et non timebis calamitatem cum venerit.

KJV 22 At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

VULC 22 In vastitate et fame ridebis,
et bestias terræ non formidabis.

KJV 23 For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.

VULC 23 Sed cum lapidibus regionum pactum tuum,
et bestiæ terræ pacificæ erunt tibi.

KJV 24 And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin.

VULC 24 Et scies quod pacem habeat tabernaculum tuum ;
et visitans speciem tuam, non peccabis.

KJV 25 Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.

VULC 25 Scies quoque quoniam multiplex erit semen tuum,
et progenies tua quasi herba terræ.

KJV 26 Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.

VULC 26 Ingredieris in abundantia sepulchrum,
sicut infertur acervus tritici in tempore suo.

KJV 27 Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.

VULC 27 Ecce hoc, ut investigavimus, ita est :
quod auditum, mente pertracta.]
