KJV ¹ The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.

WLC ¹ דְּבַר־ יְהוָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָיָ֔ה אֶל־ יוֹאֵ֖ל בֶּן־ פְּתוּאֵֽל׃

DRB ² Écoutez ceci, vieillards, et prêtez l'oreille, vous, tous les habitants du pays ! Ceci est-il arrivé de vos jours, ou même dans les jours de vos pères ?

KJV ² Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?

WLC ² שִׁמְעוּ־ זֹאת֙ הַזְּקֵנִ֔ים וְהַֽאֲזִ֔ינוּ כֹּ֖ל יוֹשְׁבֵ֣י הָאָ֑רֶץ הֶהָ֤יְתָה זֹּאת֙ בִּֽימֵיכֶ֔ם וְאִ֖ם בִּימֵ֥י אֲבֹֽתֵיכֶֽם׃

DRB ³ Racontez-le à vos fils, et vos fils à leurs fils, et leurs fils à une autre génération :

KJV ³ Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.

WLC ³ עָלֶ֖יהָ לִבְנֵיכֶ֣ם סַפֵּ֑רוּ וּבְנֵיכֶם֙ לִבְנֵיהֶ֔ם וּבְנֵיהֶ֖ם לְד֥וֹר אַחֵֽר׃

DRB ⁴ ce qu'a laissé la chenille*, la sauterelle l'a mangé ; et ce qu'a laissé la sauterelle, l'yélek** l'a mangé, et ce qu'a laissé l'yélek, la locuste l'a mangé.

KJV ⁴ That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.

WLC ⁴ יֶ֤תֶר הַגָּזָם֙ אָכַ֣ל הָֽאַרְבֶּ֔ה וְיֶ֥תֶר הָאַרְבֶּ֖ה אָכַ֣ל הַיָּ֑לֶק וְיֶ֣תֶר הַיֶּ֔לֶק אָכַ֖ל הֶחָסִֽיל׃

DRB ⁵ Réveillez-vous, ivrognes, et pleurez ; et hurlez, vous tous, buveurs de vin, à cause du moût, car il est retranché à vos bouches.

KJV ⁵ Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

WLC ⁵ הָקִ֤יצוּ שִׁכּוֹרִים֙ וּבְכ֔וּ וְהֵילִ֖לוּ כָּל־ שֹׁ֣תֵי יָ֑יִן עַל־ עָסִ֕יס כִּ֥י נִכְרַ֖ת מִפִּיכֶֽם׃

DRB ⁶ Car une nation est montée sur mon pays, forte et innombrable. Ses dents sont les dents d'un lion, et elle a les grosses dents d'une lionne*.

KJV ⁶ For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.

WLC ⁶ כִּֽי־ גוֹי֙ עָלָ֣ה עַל־ אַרְצִ֔י עָצ֖וּם וְאֵ֣ין מִסְפָּ֑ר שִׁנָּיו֙ שִׁנֵּ֣י אַרְיֵ֔ה וּֽמְתַלְּע֥וֹת לָבִ֖יא לֽוֹ׃

DRB ⁷ Elle a réduit ma vigne en une désolation, mon figuier en un tas de bois ; elle l'a écorcé entièrement, et l'a jeté par terre ; ses rameaux ont blanchi.

KJV ⁷ He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.

WLC ⁷ שָׂ֤ם גַּפְנִי֙ לְשַׁמָּ֔ה וּתְאֵנָתִ֖י לִקְצָפָ֑ה חָשֹׂ֤ף חֲשָׂפָהּ֙ וְהִשְׁלִ֔יךְ הִלְבִּ֖ינוּ שָׂרִיגֶֽיהָ׃

DRB ⁸ Gémis comme une vierge ceinte du sac, sur le mari de sa jeunesse !

KJV ⁸ Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

WLC ⁸ אֱלִ֕י כִּבְתוּלָ֥ה חֲגֻֽרַת־ שַׂ֖ק עַל־ בַּ֥עַל נְעוּרֶֽיהָ׃

DRB ⁹ L'offrande et la libation sont retranchées de la maison de l'Éternel ; les sacrificateurs, les serviteurs de l'Éternel, mènent deuil ;

KJV ⁹ The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD's ministers, mourn.

WLC ⁹ הָכְרַ֥ת מִנְחָ֛ה וָנֶ֖סֶךְ מִבֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה אָֽבְלוּ֙ הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים מְשָׁרְתֵ֖י יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ¹⁰ les champs sont ravagés, la terre mène deuil ; car le blé est ravagé, le vin nouveau est honteux*, l'huile languit.

KJV ¹⁰ The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

WLC ¹⁰ שֻׁדַּ֣ד שָׂדֶ֔ה אָבְלָ֖ה אֲדָמָ֑ה כִּ֚י שֻׁדַּ֣ד דָּגָ֔ן הוֹבִ֥ישׁ תִּיר֖וֹשׁ אֻמְלַ֥ל יִצְהָֽר׃

DRB ¹¹ Soyez honteux, laboureurs ; hurlez, vignerons, - à cause du froment et de l'orge, car la moisson des champs a péri !

KJV ¹¹ Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.

WLC ¹¹ הֹבִ֣ישׁוּ אִכָּרִ֗ים הֵילִ֙ילוּ֙ כֹּֽרְמִ֔ים עַל־ חִטָּ֖ה וְעַל־ שְׂעֹרָ֑ה כִּ֥י אָבַ֖ד קְצִ֥יר שָׂדֶֽה׃

DRB ¹² La vigne est honteuse*, et le figuier languit, - le grenadier, le palmier aussi, et le pommier ; tous les arbres des champs sont desséchés ; car la joie est tarie du milieu des fils des hommes.

KJV ¹² The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.

WLC ¹² הַגֶּ֣פֶן הוֹבִ֔ישָׁה וְהַתְּאֵנָ֖ה אֻמְלָ֑לָה רִמּ֞וֹן גַּם־ תָּמָ֣ר וְתַפּ֗וּחַ כָּל־ עֲצֵ֤י הַשָּׂדֶה֙ יָבֵ֔שׁוּ כִּֽי־ הֹבִ֥ישׁ שָׂשׂ֖וֹן מִן־ בְּנֵ֥י אָדָֽם׃

DRB ¹³ Ceignez-vous et lamentez-vous, sacrificateurs ; hurlez, vous qui servez l'autel ; venez, passez la nuit sous le sac, vous qui servez mon Dieu ! car l'offrande et la libation sont ôtées à la maison de votre Dieu.

KJV ¹³ Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.

WLC ¹³ חִגְר֨וּ וְסִפְד֜וּ הַכֹּהֲנִ֗ים הֵילִ֙ילוּ֙ מְשָׁרְתֵ֣י מִזְבֵּ֔חַ בֹּ֚אוּ לִ֣ינוּ בַשַּׂקִּ֔ים מְשָׁרְתֵ֖י אֱלֹהָ֑י כִּ֥י נִמְנַ֛ע מִבֵּ֥ית אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֖ם מִנְחָ֥ה וָנָֽסֶךְ׃

DRB ¹⁴ Sanctifiez un jeûne, convoquez une assemblée solennelle ; assemblez les anciens, tous les habitants du pays, à la maison de l'Éternel, votre Dieu, et criez à l'Éternel !

KJV ¹⁴ Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,

WLC ¹⁴ קַדְּשׁוּ־ צוֹם֙ קִרְא֣וּ עֲצָרָ֔ה אִסְפ֣וּ זְקֵנִ֗ים כֹּ֚ל יֹשְׁבֵ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ בֵּ֖ית יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם וְזַעֲק֖וּ אֶל־ יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ¹⁵ Hélas, quel jour ! car le jour de l'Éternel est proche, et il viendra comme une destruction du Tout-puissant.

KJV ¹⁵ Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

WLC ¹⁵ אֲהָ֖הּ לַיּ֑וֹם כִּ֤י קָרוֹב֙ י֣וֹם יְהוָ֔ה וּכְשֹׁ֖ד מִשַׁדַּ֥י יָבֽוֹא׃

DRB ¹⁶ La nourriture n'est-elle pas retranchée de devant nos yeux, [et], de la maison de notre Dieu, la joie et l'allégresse ?

KJV ¹⁶ Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

WLC ¹⁶ הֲל֛וֹא נֶ֥גֶד עֵינֵ֖ינוּ אֹ֣כֶל נִכְרָ֑ת מִבֵּ֥ית אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ שִׂמְחָ֥ה וָגִֽיל׃

DRB ¹⁷ Les semences pourrissent sous leurs mottes ; les greniers sont désolés ; les granges sont renversées, car le blé est desséché.

KJV ¹⁷ The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.

WLC ¹⁷ עָבְשׁ֣וּ פְרֻד֗וֹת תַּ֚חַת מֶגְרְפֹ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם נָשַׁ֙מּוּ֙ אֹֽצָר֔וֹת נֶהֶרְס֖וּ מַמְּגֻר֑וֹת כִּ֥י הֹבִ֖ישׁ דָּגָֽן׃

DRB ¹⁸ Comme le bétail gémit ! Les troupeaux de gros bétail sont déconcertés, car il n'y a pas de pâturage pour eux ; les troupeaux de menu bétail aussi sont en peine.

KJV ¹⁸ How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

WLC ¹⁸ מַה־ נֶּאֶנְחָ֣ה בְהֵמָ֗ה נָבֹ֙כוּ֙ עֶדְרֵ֣י בָקָ֔ר כִּ֛י אֵ֥ין מִרְעֶ֖ה לָהֶ֑ם גַּם־ עֶדְרֵ֥י הַצֹּ֖אן נֶאְשָֽׁמוּ׃

DRB ¹⁹ toi, Éternel, je crierai ; car le feu a dévoré les pâturages du désert, et la flamme a brûlé tous les arbres des champs.

KJV ¹⁹ O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.

WLC ¹⁹ אֵלֶ֥יךָ יְהוָ֖ה אֶקְרָ֑א כִּ֣י אֵ֗שׁ אָֽכְלָה֙ נְא֣וֹת מִדְבָּ֔ר וְלֶ֣הָבָ֔ה לִהֲטָ֖ה כָּל־ עֲצֵ֥י הַשָּׂדֶֽה׃

DRB ²⁰ Les bêtes des champs aussi crient à toi, car les cours d'eau sont desséchés, et le feu a dévoré les pâturages du désert.

KJV ²⁰ The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

WLC ²⁰ גַּם־ בַּהֲמ֥וֹת שָׂדֶ֖ה תַּעֲר֣וֹג אֵלֶ֑יךָ כִּ֤י יָֽבְשׁוּ֙ אֲפִ֣יקֵי מָ֔יִם וְאֵ֕שׁ אָכְלָ֖ה נְא֥וֹת הַמִּדְבָּֽר׃
