KJV 1 The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.

VULC 1 Verbum Domini, quod factum est ad Joël, filium Phatuel.

WLC 1 דְּבַר־ יְהוָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָיָ֔ה אֶל־ יוֹאֵ֖ל בֶּן־ פְּתוּאֵֽל׃

KJV 2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?

VULC 2 [Audite hoc, senes,
et auribus percipite, omnes habitatores terræ :
si factum est istud in diebus vestris,
aut in diebus patrum vestrorum ?

WLC 2 שִׁמְעוּ־ זֹאת֙ הַזְּקֵנִ֔ים וְהַֽאֲזִ֔ינוּ כֹּ֖ל יוֹשְׁבֵ֣י הָאָ֑רֶץ הֶהָ֤יְתָה זֹּאת֙ בִּֽימֵיכֶ֔ם וְאִ֖ם בִּימֵ֥י אֲבֹֽתֵיכֶֽם׃

KJV 3 Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.

VULC 3 Super hoc filiis vestris narrate,
et filii vestri filiis suis,
et filii eorum generationi alteræ.

WLC 3 עָלֶ֖יהָ לִבְנֵיכֶ֣ם סַפֵּ֑רוּ וּבְנֵיכֶם֙ לִבְנֵיהֶ֔ם וּבְנֵיהֶ֖ם לְד֥וֹר אַחֵֽר׃

KJV 4 That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.

VULC 4 Residuum erucæ comedit locusta,
et residuum locustæ comedit bruchus,
et residuum bruchi comedit rubigo.

WLC 4 יֶ֤תֶר הַגָּזָם֙ אָכַ֣ל הָֽאַרְבֶּ֔ה וְיֶ֥תֶר הָאַרְבֶּ֖ה אָכַ֣ל הַיָּ֑לֶק וְיֶ֣תֶר הַיֶּ֔לֶק אָכַ֖ל הֶחָסִֽיל׃

KJV 5 Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

VULC 5 Expergiscimini, ebrii,
et flete et ululate, omnes qui bibitis vinum in dulcedine,
quoniam periit ab ore vestro.

WLC 5 הָקִ֤יצוּ שִׁכּוֹרִים֙ וּבְכ֔וּ וְהֵילִ֖לוּ כָּל־ שֹׁ֣תֵי יָ֑יִן עַל־ עָסִ֕יס כִּ֥י נִכְרַ֖ת מִפִּיכֶֽם׃

KJV 6 For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.

VULC 6 Gens enim ascendit super terram meam,
fortis et innumerabilis :
dentes ejus ut dentes leonis,
et molares ejus ut catuli leonis.

WLC 6 כִּֽי־ גוֹי֙ עָלָ֣ה עַל־ אַרְצִ֔י עָצ֖וּם וְאֵ֣ין מִסְפָּ֑ר שִׁנָּיו֙ שִׁנֵּ֣י אַרְיֵ֔ה וּֽמְתַלְּע֥וֹת לָבִ֖יא לֽוֹ׃

KJV 7 He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.

VULC 7 Posuit vineam meam in desertum,
et ficum meam decorticavit ;
nudans spoliavit eam, et projecit :
albi facti sunt rami ejus.

WLC 7 שָׂ֤ם גַּפְנִי֙ לְשַׁמָּ֔ה וּתְאֵנָתִ֖י לִקְצָפָ֑ה חָשֹׂ֤ף חֲשָׂפָהּ֙ וְהִשְׁלִ֔יךְ הִלְבִּ֖ינוּ שָׂרִיגֶֽיהָ׃

KJV 8 Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

VULC 8 Plange quasi virgo accincta sacco super virum pubertatis suæ.

WLC 8 אֱלִ֕י כִּבְתוּלָ֥ה חֲגֻֽרַת־ שַׂ֖ק עַל־ בַּ֥עַל נְעוּרֶֽיהָ׃

KJV 9 The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD's ministers, mourn.

VULC 9 Periit sacrificium et libatio de domo Domini ;
luxerunt sacerdotes, ministri Domini.

WLC 9 הָכְרַ֥ת מִנְחָ֛ה וָנֶ֖סֶךְ מִבֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה אָֽבְלוּ֙ הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים מְשָׁרְתֵ֖י יְהוָֽה׃

KJV 10 The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

VULC 10 Depopulata est regio,
luxit humus,
quoniam devastatum est triticum,
confusum est vinum,
elanguit oleum.

WLC 10 שֻׁדַּ֣ד שָׂדֶ֔ה אָבְלָ֖ה אֲדָמָ֑ה כִּ֚י שֻׁדַּ֣ד דָּגָ֔ן הוֹבִ֥ישׁ תִּיר֖וֹשׁ אֻמְלַ֥ל יִצְהָֽר׃

KJV 11 Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.

VULC 11 Confusi sunt agricolæ,
ululaverunt vinitores
super frumento et hordeo,
quia periit messis agri.

WLC 11 הֹבִ֣ישׁוּ אִכָּרִ֗ים הֵילִ֙ילוּ֙ כֹּֽרְמִ֔ים עַל־ חִטָּ֖ה וְעַל־ שְׂעֹרָ֑ה כִּ֥י אָבַ֖ד קְצִ֥יר שָׂדֶֽה׃

KJV 12 The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.

VULC 12 Vinea confusa est,
et ficus elanguit ;
malogranatum, et palma, et malum,
et omnia ligna agri aruerunt,
quia confusum est gaudium a filiis hominum.

WLC 12 הַגֶּ֣פֶן הוֹבִ֔ישָׁה וְהַתְּאֵנָ֖ה אֻמְלָ֑לָה רִמּ֞וֹן גַּם־ תָּמָ֣ר וְתַפּ֗וּחַ כָּל־ עֲצֵ֤י הַשָּׂדֶה֙ יָבֵ֔שׁוּ כִּֽי־ הֹבִ֥ישׁ שָׂשׂ֖וֹן מִן־ בְּנֵ֥י אָדָֽם׃

KJV 13 Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.

VULC 13 Accingite vos, et plangite, sacerdotes :
ululate, ministri altaris ;
ingredimini, cubate in sacco, ministri Dei mei,
quoniam interiit de domo Dei vestri sacrificium et libatio.

WLC 13 חִגְר֨וּ וְסִפְד֜וּ הַכֹּהֲנִ֗ים הֵילִ֙ילוּ֙ מְשָׁרְתֵ֣י מִזְבֵּ֔חַ בֹּ֚אוּ לִ֣ינוּ בַשַּׂקִּ֔ים מְשָׁרְתֵ֖י אֱלֹהָ֑י כִּ֥י נִמְנַ֛ע מִבֵּ֥ית אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֖ם מִנְחָ֥ה וָנָֽסֶךְ׃

KJV 14 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,

VULC 14 Sanctificate jejunium, vocate cœtum,
congregate senes, omnes habitatores terræ
in domum Dei vestri,
et clamate ad Dominum :

WLC 14 קַדְּשׁוּ־ צוֹם֙ קִרְא֣וּ עֲצָרָ֔ה אִסְפ֣וּ זְקֵנִ֗ים כֹּ֚ל יֹשְׁבֵ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ בֵּ֖ית יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם וְזַעֲק֖וּ אֶל־ יְהוָֽה׃

KJV 15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

VULC 15 A, a, a, diei !
quia prope est dies Domini,
et quasi vastitas a potente veniet.

WLC 15 אֲהָ֖הּ לַיּ֑וֹם כִּ֤י קָרוֹב֙ י֣וֹם יְהוָ֔ה וּכְשֹׁ֖ד מִשַׁדַּ֥י יָבֽוֹא׃

KJV 16 Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

VULC 16 Numquid non coram oculis vestris alimenta perierunt
de domo Dei nostri, lætitia et exsultatio ?

WLC 16 הֲל֛וֹא נֶ֥גֶד עֵינֵ֖ינוּ אֹ֣כֶל נִכְרָ֑ת מִבֵּ֥ית אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ שִׂמְחָ֥ה וָגִֽיל׃

KJV 17 The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.

VULC 17 Computruerunt jumenta in stercore suo,
demolita sunt horrea,
dissipatæ sunt apothecæ,
quoniam confusum est triticum.

WLC 17 עָבְשׁ֣וּ פְרֻד֗וֹת תַּ֚חַת מֶגְרְפֹ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם נָשַׁ֙מּוּ֙ אֹֽצָר֔וֹת נֶהֶרְס֖וּ מַמְּגֻר֑וֹת כִּ֥י הֹבִ֖ישׁ דָּגָֽן׃

KJV 18 How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

VULC 18 Quid ingemuit animal,
mugierunt greges armenti ?
quia non est pascua eis ;
sed et greges pecorum disperierunt.

WLC 18 מַה־ נֶּאֶנְחָ֣ה בְהֵמָ֗ה נָבֹ֙כוּ֙ עֶדְרֵ֣י בָקָ֔ר כִּ֛י אֵ֥ין מִרְעֶ֖ה לָהֶ֑ם גַּם־ עֶדְרֵ֥י הַצֹּ֖אן נֶאְשָֽׁמוּ׃

KJV 19 O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.

VULC 19 Ad te, Domine, clamabo,
quia ignis comedit speciosa deserti,
et flamma succendit omnia ligna regionis.

WLC 19 אֵלֶ֥יךָ יְהוָ֖ה אֶקְרָ֑א כִּ֣י אֵ֗שׁ אָֽכְלָה֙ נְא֣וֹת מִדְבָּ֔ר וְלֶ֣הָבָ֔ה לִהֲטָ֖ה כָּל־ עֲצֵ֥י הַשָּׂדֶֽה׃

KJV 20 The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

VULC 20 Sed et bestiæ agri, quasi area sitiens imbrem, suspexerunt ad te,
quoniam exsiccati sunt fontes aquarum,
et ignis devoravit speciosa deserti.]

WLC 20 גַּם־ בַּהֲמ֥וֹת שָׂדֶ֖ה תַּעֲר֣וֹג אֵלֶ֑יךָ כִּ֤י יָֽבְשׁוּ֙ אֲפִ֣יקֵי מָ֔יִם וְאֵ֕שׁ אָכְלָ֖ה נְא֥וֹת הַמִּדְבָּֽר׃
