KJV ¹ And these are the countries which the children of Israel inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed for inheritance to them.

S21 ¹ Voici ce que les Israélites reçurent en héritage dans le pays de Canaan, ce que le prêtre Eléazar, Josué, fils de Nun, et les chefs de famille des tribus israélites partagèrent entre eux.

KJV ² By lot was their inheritance, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe.

S21 ² Le partage eut lieu par tirage au sort, comme l'Eternel l'avait ordonné par l'intermédiaire de Moïse, pour les neuf tribus et demie.

KJV ³ For Moses had given the inheritance of two tribes and an half tribe on the other side Jordan: but unto the Levites he gave none inheritance among them.

S21 ³ En effet, Moïse avait donné un héritage à deux tribus et demie de l'autre côté du Jourdain, mais il n'avait pas donné aux Lévites d'héritage parmi eux.

KJV ⁴ For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with their suburbs for their cattle and for their substance.

S21 ⁴ Les fils de Joseph formaient deux tribus, Manassé et Ephraïm, et l'on ne donna pas de part aux Lévites dans le pays, si ce n'est des villes d'habitation avec leurs environs pour leurs troupeaux et leurs biens.

KJV ⁵ As the LORD commanded Moses, so the children of Israel did, and they divided the land.

S21 ⁵ Les Israélites se conformèrent aux ordres que l'Eternel avait donnés à Moïse et partagèrent le pays.

KJV ⁶ Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the LORD said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Kadeshbarnea.

S21 ⁶ Les Judéens s'approchèrent de Josué à Guilgal. Caleb, fils de Jephunné, le Kénizien, lui dit: «Tu sais ce que l'Eternel a déclaré à Moïse, homme de Dieu, à mon sujet et au tien à Kadès-Barnéa.

KJV ⁷ Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadeshbarnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart.

S21 ⁷ J'étais âgé de 40 ans lorsque Moïse, le serviteur de l'Eternel, m'a envoyé de Kadès-Barnéa explorer le pays, et c'est avec un cœur droit que je lui ai fait mon rapport.

KJV ⁸ Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God.

S21 ⁸ Mes frères qui étaient montés avec moi ont découragé le peuple, mais moi j'ai suivi pleinement la voie de l'Eternel, mon Dieu.

KJV ⁹ And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children's for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God.

S21 ⁹ Et ce jour-là, Moïse a juré: ‘Le pays que ton pied a foulé sera ton héritage et celui de tes descendants pour toujours parce que tu as pleinement suivi la voie de l'Eternel, mon Dieu.' 

KJV ¹⁰ And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.

S21 ¹⁰ Maintenant voici que l'Eternel m'a fait vivre, comme il l'a dit. Il y a 45 ans que l'Eternel a dit cela à Moïse, à l'époque où Israël marchait dans le désert, et je suis aujourd'hui âgé de 85 ans.

KJV ¹¹ As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.

S21 ¹¹ Je suis encore aussi robuste que le jour où Moïse m'a confié cette mission. J'ai autant de force que j'en avais alors, qu'il s'agisse de combattre ou de partir en campagne et en revenir.

KJV ¹² Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.

S21 ¹² Donne-moi donc la région montagneuse dont l'Eternel a parlé à cette époque-là. Tu as appris alors qu'il s'y trouve des Anakim et qu'il y a des villes grandes et fortifiées. Si l'Eternel est avec moi, je les chasserai, comme il l'a dit.»

KJV ¹³ And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.

S21 ¹³ Josué bénit Caleb, fils de Jephunné, et lui donna Hébron pour héritage.

KJV ¹⁴ Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.

S21 ¹⁴ C'est ainsi que Caleb, fils de Jephunné, le Kénizien, a eu jusqu'à aujourd'hui Hébron pour héritage, parce qu'il avait pleinement suivi la voie de l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël.

KJV ¹⁵ And the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims. And the land had rest from war.

S21 ¹⁵ Hébron s'appelait autrefois Kirjath-Arba. Arba avait été l'homme le plus grand parmi les Anakim. Le pays fut dès lors en paix, sans guerre.
