BCC ¹ Yahweh dit à Josué : "ne crains point et ne t'effraie point. Prends avec toi tous les hommes de guerre, lève-toi et monte contre Haï. Vois, j'ai livré entre tes mains le roi d'Haï et son peuple, sa ville et son territoire.

BCC ² Tu traiteras Haï et son roi comme tu as traité Jéricho et son roi ; seulement vous pillerez pour vous son butin et son bétail. Dresse une embuscade derrière la ville."

KJV ² And thou shalt do to Ai and her king as thou didst unto Jericho and her king: only the spoil thereof, and the cattle thereof, shall ye take for a prey unto yourselves: lay thee an ambush for the city behind it.

BCC ³ Josué se leva avec tous les gens de guerre, pour monter contre Haï. Josué choisit trente mille hommes vaillants, et les fit partir de nuit.

KJV ³ So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai: and Joshua chose out thirty thousand mighty men of valour, and sent them away by night.

BCC ⁴ Il leur donna cet ordre : "soyez sur vos gardez : vous vous mettrez en embuscade derrière la ville, mais sans vous éloigner beaucoup de la ville, et tous, tenez-vous prêts.

KJV ⁴ And he commanded them, saying, Behold, ye shall lie in wait against the city, even behind the city: go not very far from the city, but be ye all ready:

VULC ⁴ præcepitque eis, dicens : Ponite insidias post civitatem, nec longius recedatis : et eritis omnes parati.

BCC ⁵ Moi, et tout le peuple qui est avec moi, nous nous approcheront de la ville ; et quand ils sortiront au-devant de nous, comme la première fois, nous fuirons devant eux.

KJV ⁵ And I, and all the people that are with me, will approach unto the city: and it shall come to pass, when they come out against us, as at the first, that we will flee before them,

BCC ⁶ Ils sortiront pour nous poursuivre, jusqu'à ce qui nous les ayons attirés loin de la ville, car ils diront : Ils fuient devant nous, comme la première fois. Et nous fuirons devant eux.

KJV ⁶ (For they will come out after us) till we have drawn them from the city; for they will say, They flee before us, as at the first: therefore we will flee before them.

VULC ⁶ donec persequentes ab urbe longius protrahantur : putabunt enim nos fugere sicut prius.

BCC ⁷ Alors, sortant de l'embuscade, vous vous emparerez de la ville ; Yahweh, votre Dieu, la livrera entre vos mains.

KJV ⁷ Then ye shall rise up from the ambush, and seize upon the city: for the LORD your God will deliver it into your hand.

VULC ⁷ Nobis ergo fugientibus, et illis persequentibus, consurgetis de insidiis, et vastabitis civitatem : tradetque eam Dominus Deus vester in manus vestras.

BCC ⁸ Quand vous aurez pris la ville, vous la brûlerez ; vous agirez selon la parole de Yahweh. Voyez : je vous ai donné mes ordres."

KJV ⁸ And it shall be, when ye have taken the city, that ye shall set the city on fire: according to the commandment of the LORD shall ye do. See, I have commanded you.

VULC ⁸ Cumque ceperitis, succendite eam, et sic omnia facietis, ut jussi.

WLC ⁸ וְהָיָ֞ה כְּתָפְשְׂכֶ֣ם אֶת־ הָעִ֗יר תַּצִּ֤יתוּ אֶת־ הָעִיר֙ בָּאֵ֔שׁ כִּדְבַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה תַּעֲשׂ֑וּ רְא֖וּ צִוִּ֥יתִי אֶתְכֶֽם׃

BCC ⁹ Josué les fit partir, et ils allèrent se poster en embuscade entre Béthel et Haï, à l'occident d'Haï. Quant à Josué, il passa cette nuit-là au milieu du peuple.

KJV ⁹ Joshua therefore sent them forth: and they went to lie in ambush, and abode between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai: but Joshua lodged that night among the people.

VULC ⁹ Dimisitque eos, et perrexerunt ad locum insidiarum, sederuntque inter Bethel et Hai, ad occidentalem plagam urbis Hai : Josue autem nocte illa in medio mansit populi,

BCC ¹⁰ Josué se leva de bon matin et, ayant passé le peuple en revue, il monta à la tête du peuple, lui et les anciens d'Israël, contre Haï.

KJV ¹⁰ And Joshua rose up early in the morning, and numbered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.

VULC ¹⁰ surgensque diluculo recensuit socios, et ascendit cum senioribus in fronte exercitus, vallatus auxilio pugnatorum.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֤ם יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ בַּבֹּ֔קֶר וַיִּפְקֹ֖ד אֶת־ הָעָ֑ם וַיַּ֨עַל ה֜וּא וְזִקְנֵ֧י יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל לִפְנֵ֥י הָעָ֖ם הָעָֽי׃

BCC ¹¹ Tous les hommes de guerre qui étaient avec lui montèrent et s'approchèrent ; arrivés en face d'Haï, ils campèrent au nord de la ville, ayant la vallée entre eux et Haï.

KJV ¹¹ And all the people, even the people of war that were with him, went up, and drew nigh, and came before the city, and pitched on the north side of Ai: now there was a valley between them and Ai.

VULC ¹¹ Cumque venissent et ascendissent ex adverso civitatis, steterunt ad septentrionalem urbis plagam, inter quam et eos erat vallis media.

WLC ¹¹ וְכָל־ הָעָ֨ם הַמִּלְחָמָ֜ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתּ֗וֹ עָלוּ֙ וַֽיִּגְּשׁ֔וּ וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ נֶ֣גֶד הָעִ֑יר וַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙ מִצְּפ֣וֹן לָעַ֔י וְהַגַּ֖י וּבֵין־ הָעָֽי׃

BCC ¹² Josué prit environ cinq mille hommes, et les mit en embuscade entre Béthel et Haï, à l'occident de la ville.

KJV ¹² And he took about five thousand men, and set them to lie in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.

VULC ¹² Quinque autem millia viros elegerat, et posuerat in insidiis inter Bethel et Hai ex occidentali parte ejusdem civitatis :

WLC ¹² וַיִּקַּ֕ח כַּחֲמֵ֥שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֖ים אִ֑ישׁ וַיָּ֨שֶׂם אוֹתָ֜ם אֹרֵ֗ב בֵּ֧ין בֵּֽית־ אֵ֛ל וּבֵ֥ין הָעַ֖י מִיָּ֥ם לָעִֽיר׃

BCC ¹³ Lorsque le peuple eut ainsi disposé tout le camp, qui était au nord de la ville, et son embuscade à l'occident de la ville, Josué s'avança durant cette nuit au milieu de la vallée.

KJV ¹³ And when they had set the people, even all the host that was on the north of the city, and their liers in wait on the west of the city, Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.

VULC ¹³ omnis vero reliquus exercitus ad aquilonem aciem dirigebat, ita ut novissimi illius multitudinis occidentalem plagam urbis attingerent. Abiit ergo Josue nocte illa, et stetit in vallis medio.

WLC ¹³ וַיָּשִׂ֨ימוּ הָעָ֜ם אֶת־ כָּל־ הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֗ה אֲשֶׁר֙ מִצְּפ֣וֹן לָעִ֔יר וְאֶת־ עֲקֵב֖וֹ מִיָּ֣ם לָעִ֑יר וַיֵּ֧לֶךְ יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ בַּלַּ֥יְלָה הַה֖וּא בְּת֥וֹךְ הָעֵֽמֶק׃

BCC ¹⁴ Dès que le roi de Haï vit cela, les hommes de la ville se levèrent en hâte de bon matin, et sortirent à la rencontre d'Israël pour le combattre ; le roi s'avança avec tout son peuple vers le lieu convenu, en face de la plaine, ne sachant pas qu'il y avait derrière la ville une embuscade dressée contre lui.

KJV ¹⁴ And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hasted and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at a time appointed, before the plain; but he wist not that there were liers in ambush against him behind the city.

VULC ¹⁴ Quod cum vidisset rex Hai, festinavit mane, et egressus est cum omni exercitu civitatis, direxitque aciem contra desertum, ignorans quod post tergum laterent insidiæ.

WLC ¹⁴ וַיְהִ֞י כִּרְא֣וֹת מֶֽלֶךְ־ הָעַ֗י וַֽיְמַהֲר֡וּ וַיַּשְׁכִּ֡ימוּ וַיֵּצְא֣וּ אַנְשֵֽׁי־ הָעִ֣יר לִקְרַֽאת־ יִ֠שְׂרָאֵל לַֽמִּלְחָמָ֞ה ה֧וּא וְכָל־ עַמּ֛וֹ לַמּוֹעֵ֖ד לִפְנֵ֣י הָֽעֲרָבָ֑ה וְהוּא֙ לֹ֣א יָדַ֔ע כִּֽי־ אֹרֵ֥ב ל֖וֹ מֵאַחֲרֵ֥י הָעִֽיר׃

BCC ¹⁵ Josué et tout Israël se laissèrent battre devant eux, et ils s'enfuirent par le chemin du désert.

KJV ¹⁵ And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.

VULC ¹⁵ Josue vero et omnis Israël cesserunt loco, simulantes metum, et fugientes per solitudinis viam.

WLC ¹⁵ וַיִּנָּֽגְע֛וּ יְהוֹשֻׁ֥עַ וְכָל־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לִפְנֵיהֶ֑ם וַיָּנֻ֖סוּ דֶּ֥רֶךְ הַמִּדְבָּֽר׃

BCC ¹⁶ Alors tout le peuple qui était dans la ville se rassembla pour les poursuivre ; ils poursuivirent Josué et se laissèrent attirer loin de la ville.

KJV ¹⁶ And all the people that were in Ai were called together to pursue after them: and they pursued after Joshua, and were drawn away from the city.

VULC ¹⁶ At illi vociferantes pariter, et se mutuo cohortantes, persecuti sunt eos. Cumque recessissent a civitate,

WLC ¹⁶ וַיִּזָּעֲק֗וּ כָּל־ הָעָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לִרְדֹּ֖ף אַחֲרֵיהֶ֑ם וַֽיִּרְדְּפוּ֙ אַחֲרֵ֣י יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ וַיִּנָּתְק֖וּ מִן־ הָעִֽיר׃

BCC ¹⁷ Il ne resta pas un homme dans Haï et dans Béthel qui ne sortit pour poursuivre Israël ; laissant la ville ouverte, ils poursuivirent Israël.

KJV ¹⁷ And there was not a man left in Ai or Bethel, that went not out after Israel: and they left the city open, and pursued after Israel.

VULC ¹⁷ et ne unus quidem in urbe Hai et Bethel remansisset qui non persequeretur Israël (sicut eruperant aperta oppida relinquentes),

WLC ¹⁷ וְלֹֽא־ נִשְׁאַ֣ר אִ֗ישׁ בָּעַי֙ וּבֵ֣ית אֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא־ יָצְא֖וּ אַחֲרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיַּעַזְב֤וּ אֶת־ הָעִיר֙ פְּתוּחָ֔ה וַֽיִּרְדְּפ֖וּ אַחֲרֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

BCC ¹⁸ Yahweh dit à Josué : "étends vers Haï le javelot que tu as à la main, car je vais la livrer en ton pouvoir." Et Josué étendit vers la ville le javelot qu'il avait à la main.

KJV ¹⁸ And the LORD said unto Joshua, Stretch out the spear that is in thy hand toward Ai; for I will give it into thine hand. And Joshua stretched out the spear that he had in his hand toward the city.

VULC ¹⁸ dixit Dominus ad Josue : Leva clypeum, qui in manu tua est, contra urbem Hai, quoniam tibi tradam eam.

BCC ¹⁹ Dès qu'il eut étendu sa main, les hommes de l'embuscade se levèrent en hâte du lieu où ils étaient et, prenant leur course, ils entrèrent dans la ville et l'occupèrent ; et ils se hâtèrent de mettre le feu à la ville.

KJV ¹⁹ And the ambush arose quickly out of their place, and they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand: and they entered into the city, and took it, and hasted and set the city on fire.

VULC ¹⁹ Cumque elevasset clypeum ex adverso civitatis, insidiæ, quæ latebant, surrexerunt confestim : et pergentes ad civitatem, ceperunt, et succenderunt eam.

WLC ¹⁹ וְהָאוֹרֵ֡ב קָם֩ מְהֵרָ֨ה מִמְּקוֹמ֤וֹ וַיָּר֙וּצוּ֙ כִּנְט֣וֹת יָד֔וֹ וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ הָעִ֖יר וַֽיִּלְכְּד֑וּהָ וַֽיְמַהֲר֔וּ וַיַּצִּ֥יתוּ אֶת־ הָעִ֖יר בָּאֵֽשׁ׃

BCC ²⁰ Les hommes d'Haï, regardant derrière eux, aperçurent la fumée de la ville qui montait vers le ciel, et ils ne purent plus se sauver d'aucun côté, le peuple qui fuyait vers le désert se retournant contre ceux qui le poursuivaient.

KJV ²⁰ And when the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and, behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way: and the people that fled to the wilderness turned back upon the pursuers.

VULC ²⁰ Viri autem civitatis, qui persequebantur Josue, respicientes et videntes fumum urbis ad cælum usque conscendere, non potuerunt ultra huc illucque diffugere : præsertim cum hi qui simulaverant fugam, et tendebant ad solitudinem, contra persequentes fortissime restitissent.

WLC ²⁰ וַיִּפְנ֣וּ אַנְשֵׁי֩ הָעַ֨י אַחֲרֵיהֶ֜ם וַיִּרְא֗וּ וְהִנֵּ֨ה עָלָ֜ה עֲשַׁ֤ן הָעִיר֙ הַשָּׁמַ֔יְמָה וְלֹא־ הָיָ֨ה בָהֶ֥ם יָדַ֛יִם לָנ֖וּס הֵ֣נָּה וָהֵ֑נָּה וְהָעָם֙ הַנָּ֣ס הַמִּדְבָּ֔ר נֶהְפַּ֖ךְ אֶל־ הָרוֹדֵֽף׃

BCC ²¹ Et Josué et tout Israël, voyant la ville prise par les hommes de l'embuscade, et la fumée de la ville qui montait, se retournèrent et battirent les hommes d'Haï.

KJV ²¹ And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned again, and slew the men of Ai.

VULC ²¹ Vidensque Josue et omnis Israël quod capta esset civitas, et fumus urbis ascenderet, reversus percussit viros Hai.

WLC ²¹ וִיהוֹשֻׁ֨עַ וְכָֽל־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל רָא֗וּ כִּֽי־ לָכַ֤ד הָֽאֹרֵב֙ אֶת־ הָעִ֔יר וְכִ֥י עָלָ֖ה עֲשַׁ֣ן הָעִ֑יר וַיָּשֻׁ֕בוּ וַיַּכּ֖וּ אֶת־ אַנְשֵׁ֥י הָעָֽי׃

BCC ²² Les autres sortirent de la ville au-devant d'eux, et les hommes d'Haï se trouvèrent enveloppés par les Israélites, par les uns d'un côté, par les autres de l'autre côté. Et les Israélites les battirent, sans leur laisser ni un survivant ni un fugitif ;

KJV ²² And the other issued out of the city against them; so they were in the midst of Israel, some on this side, and some on that side: and they smote them, so that they let none of them remain or escape.

VULC ²² Siquidem et illi qui ceperant et succenderant civitatem, egressi ex urbe contra suos, medios hostium ferire cœperunt. Cum ergo ex utraque parte adversarii cæderentur, ita ut nullus de tanta multitudine salvaretur,

WLC ²² וְאֵ֨לֶּה יָצְא֤וּ מִן־ הָעִיר֙ לִקְרָאתָ֔ם וַיִּֽהְי֤וּ לְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בַּתָּ֔וֶךְ אֵ֥לֶּה מִזֶּ֖ה וְאֵ֣לֶּה מִזֶּ֑ה וַיַּכּ֣וּ אוֹתָ֔ם עַד־ בִּלְתִּ֥י הִשְׁאִֽיר־ ל֖וֹ שָׂרִ֥יד וּפָלִֽיט׃

BCC ²³ ils prirent vivant le roi d'Haï et l'amenèrent à Josué.

KJV ²³ And the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua.

VULC ²³ regem quoque urbis Hai apprehenderunt viventem, et obtulerunt Josue.

WLC ²³ וְאֶת־ מֶ֥לֶךְ הָעַ֖י תָּ֣פְשׂוּ חָ֑י וַיַּקְרִ֥בוּ אֹת֖וֹ אֶל־ יְהוֹשֻֽׁעַ׃

BCC ²⁴ Lorsqu'Israël eut achevé de tuer tous les habitants d'Haï dans la campagne, dans le désert, où ils l'avaient poursuivi, et que tous furent jusqu'au dernier passés au fil de l'épée, tout Israël revint dans la ville et la passa au fil de l'épée.

KJV ²⁴ And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness wherein they chased them, and when they were all fallen on the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all the Israelites returned unto Ai, and smote it with the edge of the sword.

VULC ²⁴ Igitur omnibus interfectis, qui Israëlem ad deserta tendentem fuerant persecuti, et in eodem loco gladio corruentibus, reversi filii Israël percusserunt civitatem.

WLC ²⁴ וַיְהִ֣י כְּכַלּ֣וֹת יִשְׂרָאֵ֡ל לַהֲרֹג֩ אֶת־ כָּל־ יֹשְׁבֵ֨י הָעַ֜י בַּשָּׂדֶ֗ה בַּמִּדְבָּר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר רְדָפ֣וּם בּ֔וֹ וַֽיִּפְּל֥וּ כֻלָּ֛ם לְפִי־ חֶ֖רֶב עַד־ תֻּמָּ֑ם וַיָּשֻׁ֤בוּ כָל־ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ הָעַ֔י וַיַּכּ֥וּ אֹתָ֖הּ לְפִי־ חָֽרֶב׃

BCC ²⁵ Le nombre total de ceux qui périrent en ce jour fut de douze mille, tant hommes que femmes, tous gens d'Haï.

KJV ²⁵ And so it was, that all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.

VULC ²⁵ Erant autem qui in eodem die conciderant a viro usque ad mulierem, duodecim millia hominum, omnes urbis Hai.

WLC ²⁵ וַיְהִי֩ כָל־ הַנֹּ֨פְלִ֜ים בַּיּ֤וֹם הַהוּא֙ מֵאִ֣ישׁ וְעַד־ אִשָּׁ֔ה שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָׂ֖ר אָ֑לֶף כֹּ֖ל אַנְשֵׁ֥י הָעָֽי׃

BCC ²⁶ Josué ne retira pas sa main qu'il tenait étendue avec le javelot, jusqu'à ce qu'il eût traité comme anathème tous les habitants d'Haï.

KJV ²⁶ For Joshua drew not his hand back, wherewith he stretched out the spear, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.

VULC ²⁶ Josue vero non contraxit manum, quam in sublime porrexerat, tenens clypeum donec interficerentur omnes habitatores Hai.

WLC ²⁶ וִיהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ לֹֽא־ הֵשִׁ֣יב יָד֔וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָטָ֖ה בַּכִּיד֑וֹן עַ֚ד אֲשֶׁ֣ר הֶחֱרִ֔ים אֵ֖ת כָּל־ יֹשְׁבֵ֥י הָעָֽי׃

BCC ²⁷ Les Israélites prirent seulement pour eux le bétail et le butin de cette ville, selon l'ordre de Yahweh qu'il avait prescrit à Josué.

KJV ²⁷ Only the cattle and the spoil of that city Israel took for a prey unto themselves, according unto the word of the LORD which he commanded Joshua.

VULC ²⁷ Jumenta autem et prædam civitatis diviserunt sibi filii Israël, sicut præceperat Dominus Josue.

WLC ²⁷ רַ֣ק הַבְּהֵמָ֗ה וּשְׁלַל֙ הָעִ֣יר הַהִ֔יא בָּזְז֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כִּדְבַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּ֖ה אֶת־ יְהוֹשֻֽׁעַ׃

BCC ²⁸ Josué brûla Haï, et en fit pour toujours un monceau de ruines, qui subsiste encore aujourd'hui.

KJV ²⁸ And Joshua burnt Ai, and made it an heap for ever, even a desolation unto this day.

WLC ²⁸ וַיִּשְׂרֹ֥ף יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ אֶת־ הָעָ֑י וַיְשִׂימֶ֤הָ תֵּל־ עוֹלָם֙ שְׁמָמָ֔ה עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

BCC ²⁹ Il fit pendre à un arbre le roi d'Haï et l'y laissa jusqu'au soir. Au coucher du soleil, Josué donna l'ordre de descendre son cadavre de l'arbre ; on le jeta à l'entrée de la porte de la ville, et on éleva sur lui un grand monceau de pierres, qui subsiste jusqu'à ce jour.

KJV ²⁹ And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until eventide: and as soon as the sun was down, Joshua commanded that they should take his carcase down from the tree, and cast it at the entering of the gate of the city, and raise thereon a great heap of stones, that remaineth unto this day.

VULC ²⁹ regem quoque ejus suspendit in patibulo usque ad vesperam et solis occasum. Præcepitque Josue, et deposuerunt cadaver ejus de cruce : projeceruntque in ipso introitu civitatis, congesto super eum magno acervo lapidum, qui permanet usque in præsentem diem.

WLC ²⁹ וְאֶת־ מֶ֧לֶךְ הָעַ֛י תָּלָ֥ה עַל־ הָעֵ֖ץ עַד־ עֵ֣ת הָעָ֑רֶב וּכְב֣וֹא הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ֩ צִוָּ֨ה יְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַ וַיֹּרִ֧ידוּ אֶת־ נִבְלָת֣וֹ מִן־ הָעֵ֗ץ וַיַּשְׁלִ֤יכוּ אוֹתָהּ֙ אֶל־ פֶּ֙תַח֙ שַׁ֣עַר הָעִ֔יר וַיָּקִ֤ימוּ עָלָיו֙ גַּל־ אֲבָנִ֣ים גָּד֔וֹל עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃

BCC ³⁰ Alors Josué bâtit un autel à Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël, sur le mont Hébal,

KJV ³⁰ Then Joshua built an altar unto the LORD God of Israel in mount Ebal,

WLC ³⁰ אָ֣ז יִבְנֶ֤ה יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ מִזְבֵּ֔חַ לַֽיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל בְּהַ֖ר עֵיבָֽל׃

BCC ³¹ selon l'ordre que Moïse, serviteur de Yahweh, avait donné aux enfants d'Israël, comme il est écrit dans le livre de la loi de Moïse, un autel de pierres brutes, sur lesquelles on n'avait pas brandi le fer. Ils y offrirent des holocaustes à Yahweh, et firent des sacrifices pacifiques.

KJV ³¹ As Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no man hath lift up any iron: and they offered thereon burnt offerings unto the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings.

WLC ³¹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוָּה֩ מֹשֶׁ֨ה עֶֽבֶד־ יְהוָ֜ה אֶת־ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל כַּכָּתוּב֙ בְּסֵ֙פֶר֙ תּוֹרַ֣ת מֹשֶׁ֔ה מִזְבַּח֙ אֲבָנִ֣ים שְׁלֵמ֔וֹת אֲשֶׁ֛ר לֹֽא־ הֵנִ֥יף עֲלֵיהֶ֖ן בַּרְזֶ֑ל וַיַּעֲל֨וּ עָלָ֤יו עֹלוֹת֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה וַֽיִּזְבְּח֖וּ שְׁלָמִֽים׃

BCC ³² Là Josué écrivit sur les pierres une copie de la loi que Moïse avait écrite en présence des enfants d'Israël.

KJV ³² And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.

VULC ³² Et scripsit super lapides Deuteronomium legis Moysi, quod ille digesserat coram filiis Israël.

WLC ³² וַיִּכְתָּב־ שָׁ֖ם עַל־ הָאֲבָנִ֑ים אֵ֗ת מִשְׁנֵה֙ תּוֹרַ֣ת מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר כָּתַ֔ב לִפְנֵ֖י בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

BCC ³³ Tout Israël, ses anciens, ses officiers et ses juges, se tenaient des deux côtés de l'arche, devant les prêtres lévitiques, qui portaient l'arche de l'alliance de Yahweh, les étrangers aussi bien que les enfants d'Israël, une moitié du côté du mont Garizim, une moitié du côté du mont Hébal, selon l'ordre que Moïse, serviteur de Yahweh, avait donné auparavant de bénir le peuple d'Israël.

KJV ³³ And all Israel, and their elders, and officers, and their judges, stood on this side the ark and on that side before the priests the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, as well the stranger, as he that was born among them; half of them over against mount Gerizim, and half of them over against mount Ebal; as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded before, that they should bless the people of Israel.

VULC ³³ Omnis autem populus, et majores natu, ducesque ac judices, stabant ex utraque parte arcæ, in conspectu sacerdotum qui portabant arcam fœderis Domini, ut advena, ita et indigena. WLC ³³ וְכָל־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֡ל וּזְקֵנָ֡יו וְשֹׁטְרִ֣ים ׀ וְשֹׁפְטָ֡יו עֹמְדִ֣ים מִזֶּ֣ה ׀ וּמִזֶּ֣ה ׀ לָאָר֡וֹן נֶגֶד֩ הַכֹּהֲנִ֨ים הַלְוִיִּ֜ם נֹשְׂאֵ֣י ׀ אֲר֣וֹן בְּרִית־ יְהוָ֗ה כַּגֵּר֙ כָּֽאֶזְרָ֔ח חֶצְיוֹ֙ אֶל־ מ֣וּל הַר־ גְּרִזִ֔ים וְהַֽחֶצְי֖וֹ אֶל־ מ֣וּל הַר־ עֵיבָ֑ל כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֜ה מֹשֶׁ֣ה עֶֽבֶד־ יְהוָ֗ה לְבָרֵ֛ךְ אֶת־ הָעָ֥ם יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בָּרִאשֹׁנָֽה׃

BCC ³⁴ Puis Josué lut toutes les paroles de la loi, la bénédiction et la malédiction, suivant tout ce qui est écrit dans le livre de la loi.

KJV ³⁴ And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and cursings, according to all that is written in the book of the law.

VULC ³⁴ Post hæc legit omnia verba benedictionis et maledictionis, et cuncta quæ scripta erant in legis volumine.

WLC ³⁴ וְאַֽחֲרֵי־ כֵ֗ן קָרָא֙ אֶת־ כָּל־ דִּבְרֵ֣י הַתּוֹרָ֔ה הַבְּרָכָ֖ה וְהַקְּלָלָ֑ה כְּכָל־ הַכָּת֖וּב בְּסֵ֥פֶר הַתּוֹרָֽה׃

BCC ³⁵ Pas un mot de tout ce que Moïse avait prescrit que n'ait lu Josué en présence de toute l'assemblée d'Israël, des femmes et des enfants, et des étrangers qui vivaient au milieu d'eux.

KJV ³⁵ There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before all the congregation of Israel, with the women, and the little ones, and the strangers that were conversant among them.
