KJV ² And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife.

VULC ² ascendit, et nuntiavit patri suo et matri suæ, dicens : Vidi mulierem in Thamnatha de filiabus Philisthinorum : quam quæso ut mihi accipiatis uxorem.

BAN ³ Et son père et sa mère lui dirent : N'y a-t-il donc point de femme parmi les filles de tes frères et dans tout notre peuple, que tu ailles prendre une femme chez les Philistins, des gens incirconcis ? Et Samson dit à son père : Prends celle-là pour moi, car elle me plaît.

KJV ³ Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.

VULC ³ Cui dixerunt pater et mater sua : Numquid non est mulier in filiabus fratrum tuorum, et in omni populo meo, quia vis accipere uxorem de Philisthiim, qui incircumcisi sunt ? Dixitque Samson ad patrem suum : Hanc mihi accipe : quia placuit oculis meis.

BAN ⁴ Et son père et sa mère ne savaient pas que cela venait de l'Eternel, car il cherchait une occasion venant des Philistins. Et dans ce temps-là, les Philistins dominaient sur Israël.

KJV ⁴ But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.

VULC ⁴ Parentes autem ejus nesciebant quod res a Domino fieret, et quæreret occasionem contra Philisthiim : eo enim tempore Philisthiim dominabantur Israëli.

BAN ⁵ Et Samson descendit avec son père et sa mère à Thimna. Et ils arrivèrent aux vignes de Thimna, et voici, un jeune lion rugissant vint à sa rencontre.

KJV ⁵ Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and, behold, a young lion roared against him.

VULC ⁵ Descendit itaque Samson cum patre suo et matre in Thamnatha. Cumque venissent ad vineas oppidi, apparuit catulus leonis sævus, et rugiens, et occurrit ei.

BAN ⁶ Et l'Esprit de l'Eternel le saisit, et il le déchira comme on déchire un chevreau, sans avoir rien en sa main. Et il ne raconta pas à son père et à sa mère ce qu'il avait fait.

KJV ⁶ And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.

VULC ⁶ Irruit autem spiritus Domini in Samson, et dilaceravit leonem, quasi hædum in frusta discerpens, nihil omnino habens in manu : et hoc patri et matri noluit indicare.

BAN ⁷ Et il descendit et parla à la femme, et elle plut à Samson.

KJV ⁷ And he went down, and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well.

VULC ⁷ Descenditque, et locutus est mulieri quæ placuerat oculis ejus.

BAN ⁸ Et il revint quelque temps après pour l'épouser, et il fit un détour pour voir le cadavre du lion ; et voici, il y avait un essaim d'abeilles et du miel dans le corps du lion.

KJV ⁸ And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carcase of the lion: and, behold, there was a swarm of bees and honey in the carcase of the lion.

VULC ⁸ Et post aliquot dies revertens ut acciperet eam, declinavit ut videret cadaver leonis, et ecce examen apum in ore leonis erat ac favus mellis.

BAN ⁹ Et il en prit dans ses mains, et chemin faisant il en mangeait ; et lorsqu'il eut rejoint son père et sa mère, il leur en donna, et ils en mangèrent. Et il ne leur dit pas qu'il avait tiré ce miel du cadavre du lion.

KJV ⁹ And he took thereof in his hands, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did eat: but he told not them that he had taken the honey out of the carcase of the lion.

VULC ⁹ Quem cum sumpsisset in manibus comedebat in via : veniensque ad patrem suum et matrem, dedit eis partem, qui et ipsi comederunt : nec tamen eis voluit indicare quod mel de corpore leonis assumpserat.

KJV ¹⁰ So his father went down unto the woman: and Samson made there a feast; for so used the young men to do.

BAN ¹¹ Et lorsqu'ils le virent, ils choisirent trente compagnons pour être avec lui.

KJV ¹¹ And it came to pass, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.

VULC ¹¹ Cum ergo cives loci illius vidissent eum, dederunt ei sodales triginta ut essent cum eo.

BAN ¹² Et Samson leur dit : Je veux vous proposer une énigme. Si vous me l'expliquez pendant les sept jours du festin et si vous la devinez, je vous donnerai trente tuniques et trente habits de fête.

KJV ¹² And Samson said unto them, I will now put forth a riddle unto you: if ye can certainly declare it me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty sheets and thirty change of garments:

VULC ¹² Quibus locutus est Samson : Proponam vobis problema : quod si solveritis mihi intra septem dies convivii, dabo vobis triginta sindones, et totidem tunicas :

BAN ¹³ Et si vous ne pouvez pas me l'expliquer, c'est vous qui me donnerez trente tuniques et trente habits de fête. Et ils lui dirent : Propose ton énigme et nous l'écouterons.

KJV ¹³ But if ye cannot declare it me, then shall ye give me thirty sheets and thirty change of garments. And they said unto him, Put forth thy riddle, that we may hear it.

VULC ¹³ sin autem non potueritis solvere, vos dabitis mihi triginta sindones, et ejusdem numeri tunicas. Qui responderunt ei : Propone problema, ut audiamus.

BAN ¹⁴ Et il leur dit : De celui qui mange est sorti ce qui se mange, et du fort est sorti le doux. Et pendant trois jours, ils ne purent expliquer l'énigme.

KJV ¹⁴ And he said unto them, Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not in three days expound the riddle.

BAN ¹⁵ Et le septième jour, ils dirent à la femme de Samson : Persuade ton mari, et qu'il nous explique l'énigme, si tu ne veux pas que nous te brûlions, toi et la maison de ton père. C'est pour nous dépouiller que vous nous avez invités, n'est-ce pas ?

KJV ¹⁵ And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto Samson's wife, Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father's house with fire: have ye called us to take that we have? is it not so?

VULC ¹⁵ Cumque adesset dies septimus, dixerunt ad uxorem Samson : Blandire viro tuo et suade ei ut indicet tibi quid significet problema : quod si facere nolueris, incendemus te, et domum patris tui : an idcirco vocastis nos ad nuptias ut spoliaretis ?

BAN ¹⁶ Et la femme de Samson pleura auprès de lui et lui dit : Tu n'as pour moi que de la haine et non de l'amour. Tu as proposé une énigme aux fils de mon peuple, et tu ne me l'as pas expliquée ! Et il lui dit : Vois, je ne l'ai pas expliquée à mon père et à ma mère, et je te l'expliquerais !

KJV ¹⁶ And Samson's wife wept before him, and said, Thou dost but hate me, and lovest me not: thou hast put forth a riddle unto the children of my people, and hast not told it me. And he said unto her, Behold, I have not told it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell it thee?

VULC ¹⁶ Quæ fundebat apud Samson lacrimas, et quærebatur, dicens : Odisti me, et non diligis : idcirco problema, quod proposuisti filiis populi mei, non vis mihi exponere. At ille respondit : Patri meo et matri nolui dicere : et tibi indicare potero ?

BAN ¹⁷ Et elle pleura auprès de lui pendant les sept jours que dura le- festin ; et le septième jour il la lui expliqua, car elle. le tourmentait. Et elle donna l'explication de l'énigme aux fils de son peuple.

KJV ¹⁷ And she wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she lay sore upon him: and she told the riddle to the children of her people.

BAN ¹⁸ Et les gens de la ville dirent à Samson le septième jour, avant le coucher du soleil : Quoi de plus doux que le miel, et quoi de plus fort que le lion ? Et il leur dit : Si vous n'aviez pas labouré avec ma génisse, vous n'auriez pas deviné mon énigme.

KJV ¹⁸ And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? And what is stronger than a lion? and he said unto them, If ye had not plowed with my heifer, ye had not found out my riddle.

BAN ¹⁹ Et l'Esprit de l'Eternel le saisit, et il descendit à Askalon, et il frappa d'entre eux trente hommes ; et il prit leurs dépouilles et donna les habits de fête à ceux qui avaient expliqué l'énigme. Et, enflammé de colère, il monta à la maison de son père.

KJV ¹⁹ And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father's house.

VULC ¹⁹ Irruit itaque in eum spiritus Domini, descenditque Ascalonem, et percussit ibi triginta viros : quorum ablatas vestes dedit iis qui problema solverant. Iratusque nimis ascendit in domum patris sui :

BAN ²⁰ Et la femme de Samson fut donnée à son compagnon, celui qui avait été son ami.

KJV ²⁰ But Samson's wife was given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend.

VULC ²⁰ uxor autem ejus accepit maritum unum de amicis ejus et pronubis.
