KJV ¹ Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife.

LSG ¹ Les hommes d'Israël avaient juré à Mitspa, en disant: Aucun de nous ne donnera sa fille pour femme à un Benjamite.

WLC ¹ וְאִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל נִשְׁבַּ֥ע בַּמִּצְפָּ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר אִ֣ישׁ מִמֶּ֔נּוּ לֹא־ יִתֵּ֥ן בִּתּ֛וֹ לְבִנְיָמִ֖ן לְאִשָּֽׁה׃

KJV ² And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till even before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept sore;

LSG ² Le peuple vint à Béthel, et il y resta devant Dieu jusqu'au soir. Ils élevèrent la voix, ils versèrent d'abondantes larmes,

WLC ² וַיָּבֹ֤א הָעָם֙ בֵּֽית־ אֵ֔ל וַיֵּ֤שְׁבוּ שָׁם֙ עַד־ הָעֶ֔רֶב לִפְנֵ֖י הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וַיִּשְׂא֣וּ קוֹלָ֔ם וַיִּבְכּ֖וּ בְּכִ֥י גָדֽוֹל׃

KJV ³ And said, O LORD God of Israel, why is this come to pass in Israel, that there should be to day one tribe lacking in Israel?

LSG ³ et ils dirent: O Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, pourquoi est-il arrivé en Israël qu'il manque aujourd'hui une tribu d'Israël ?

WLC ³ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ לָמָ֗ה יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הָ֥יְתָה זֹּ֖את בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לְהִפָּקֵ֥ד הַיּ֛וֹם מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֖ל שֵׁ֥בֶט אֶחָֽד׃

KJV ⁴ And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.

LSG ⁴ Le lendemain, le peuple se leva de bon matin ; ils bâtirent là un autel, et ils offrirent des holocaustes et des sacrifices d'actions de grâces.

WLC ⁴ וַֽיְהִי֙ מִֽמָּחֳרָ֔ת וַיַּשְׁכִּ֣ימוּ הָעָ֔ם וַיִּבְנוּ־ שָׁ֖ם מִזְבֵּ֑חַ וַיַּעֲל֥וּ עֹל֖וֹת וּשְׁלָמִֽים׃

KJV ⁵ And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had made a great oath concerning him that came not up to the LORD to Mizpeh, saying, He shall surely be put to death.

LSG ⁵ Les enfants d'Israël dirent: Quel est celui d'entre toutes les tribus d'Israël qui n'est pas monté à l'assemblée devant l'Éternel ? Car on avait fait un serment solennel contre quiconque ne monterait pas vers l'Éternel à Mitspa, on avait dit: Il sera puni de mort.

WLC ⁵ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מִ֠י אֲשֶׁ֨ר לֹא־ עָלָ֧ה בַקָּהָ֛ל מִכָּל־ שִׁבְטֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אֶל־ יְהוָ֑ה כִּי֩ הַשְּׁבוּעָ֨ה הַגְּדוֹלָ֜ה הָיְתָ֗ה לַ֠אֲשֶׁר לֹא־ עָלָ֨ה אֶל־ יְהוָ֧ה הַמִּצְפָּ֛ה לֵאמֹ֖ר מ֥וֹת יוּמָֽת׃

KJV ⁶ And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.

LSG ⁶ Les enfants d'Israël éprouvaient du repentir au sujet de Benjamin, leur frère, et ils disaient: Aujourd'hui une tribu a été retranchée d'Israël.

WLC ⁶ וַיִּנָּֽחֲמוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶל־ בִּנְיָמִ֖ן אָחִ֑יו וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ נִגְדַּ֥ע הַיּ֛וֹם שֵׁ֥בֶט אֶחָ֖ד מִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁷ How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have sworn by the LORD that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?

LSG ⁷ Que ferons-nous pour procurer des femmes à ceux qui ont survécu, puisque nous avons juré par l'Éternel de ne pas leur donner de nos filles pour femmes ?

WLC ⁷ מַה־ נַּעֲשֶׂ֥ה לָהֶ֛ם לַנּוֹתָרִ֖ים לְנָשִׁ֑ים וַאֲנַ֙חְנוּ֙ נִשְׁבַּ֣עְנוּ בַֽיהוָ֔ה לְבִלְתִּ֛י תֵּת־ לָהֶ֥ם מִבְּנוֹתֵ֖ינוּ לְנָשִֽׁים׃

KJV ⁸ And they said, What one is there of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to the LORD? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabeshgilead to the assembly.

LSG ⁸ Ils dirent donc: Y a-t-il quelqu'un d'entre les tribus d'Israël qui ne soit pas monté vers l'Éternel à Mitspa ? Et voici, personne de Jabès en Galaad n'était venu au camp, à l'assemblée.

WLC ⁸ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ מִ֗י אֶחָד֙ מִשִּׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֛ר לֹֽא־ עָלָ֥ה אֶל־ יְהוָ֖ה הַמִּצְפָּ֑ה וְ֠הִנֵּה לֹ֣א בָא־ אִ֧ישׁ אֶל־ הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֛ה מִיָּבֵ֥ישׁ גִּלְעָ֖ד אֶל־ הַקָּהָֽל׃

KJV ⁹ For the people were numbered, and, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead there.

LSG ⁹ On fit le dénombrement du peuple, et il n'y avait là aucun des habitants de Jabès en Galaad.

WLC ⁹ וַיִּתְפָּקֵ֖ד הָעָ֑ם וְהִנֵּ֤ה אֵֽין־ שָׁם֙ אִ֔ישׁ מִיּוֹשְׁבֵ֖י יָבֵ֥שׁ גִּלְעָֽד׃

KJV ¹⁰ And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children.

LSG ¹⁰ Alors l'assemblée envoya contre eux douze mille soldats, en leur donnant cet ordre: Allez, et frappez du tranchant de l'épée les habitants de Jabès en Galaad, avec les femmes et les enfants.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיִּשְׁלְחוּ־ שָׁ֣ם הָעֵדָ֗ה שְׁנֵים־ עָשָׂ֥ר אֶ֛לֶף אִ֖ישׁ מִבְּנֵ֣י הֶחָ֑יִל וַיְצַוּ֨וּ אוֹתָ֜ם לֵאמֹ֗ר לְ֠כוּ וְהִכִּיתֶ֞ם אֶת־ יוֹשְׁבֵ֨י יָבֵ֤שׁ גִּלְעָד֙ לְפִי־ חֶ֔רֶב וְהַנָּשִׁ֖ים וְהַטָּֽף׃

KJV ¹¹ And this is the thing that ye shall do, Ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain by man.

LSG ¹¹ Voici ce que vous ferez: vous dévouerez par interdit tout mâle et toute femme qui a connu la couche d'un homme.

WLC ¹¹ וְזֶ֥ה הַדָּבָ֖ר אֲשֶׁ֣ר תַּעֲשׂ֑וּ כָּל־ זָכָ֗ר וְכָל־ אִשָּׁ֛ה יֹדַ֥עַת מִשְׁכַּב־ זָכָ֖ר תַּחֲרִֽימוּ׃

KJV ¹² And they found among the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead four hundred young virgins, that had known no man by lying with any male: and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.

LSG ¹² Ils trouvèrent parmi les habitants de Jabès en Galaad quatre cents jeunes filles vierges qui n'avaient point connu d'homme en couchant avec lui, et ils les amenèrent dans le camp à Silo, qui est au pays de Canaan.

WLC ¹² וַֽיִּמְצְא֞וּ מִיּוֹשְׁבֵ֣י ׀ יָבֵ֣ישׁ גִּלְעָ֗ד אַרְבַּ֤ע מֵאוֹת֙ נַעֲרָ֣ה בְתוּלָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹֽא־ יָדְעָ֛ה אִ֖ישׁ לְמִשְׁכַּ֣ב זָכָ֑ר וַיָּבִ֨יאוּ אוֹתָ֤ם אֶל־ הַֽמַּחֲנֶה֙ שִׁלֹ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּאֶ֥רֶץ כְּנָֽעַן׃

KJV ¹³ And the whole congregation sent some to speak to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock Rimmon, and to call peaceably unto them.

LSG ¹³ Toute l'assemblée envoya des messagers pour parler aux fils de Benjamin qui étaient au rocher de Rimmon, et pour leur annoncer la paix.

WLC ¹³ וַֽיִּשְׁלְחוּ֙ כָּל־ הָ֣עֵדָ֔ה וַֽיְדַבְּרוּ֙ אֶל־ בְּנֵ֣י בִנְיָמִ֔ן אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּסֶ֣לַע רִמּ֑וֹן וַיִּקְרְא֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם שָׁלֽוֹם׃

KJV ¹⁴ And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them wives which they had saved alive of the women of Jabeshgilead: and yet so they sufficed them not.

LSG ¹⁴ En ce temps-là, les Benjamites revinrent, et on leur donna les femmes à qui l'on avait laissé la vie parmi les femmes de Jabès en Galaad. Mais il n'y en avait pas assez pour eux.

WLC ¹⁴ וַיָּ֤שָׁב בִּנְיָמִן֙ בָּעֵ֣ת הַהִ֔יא וַיִּתְּנ֤וּ לָהֶם֙ הַנָּשִׁ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר חִיּ֔וּ מִנְּשֵׁ֖י יָבֵ֣שׁ גִּלְעָ֑ד וְלֹֽא־ מָצְא֥וּ לָהֶ֖ם כֵּֽן׃

KJV ¹⁵ And the people repented them for Benjamin, because that the LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.

LSG ¹⁵ Le peuple éprouvait du repentir au sujet de Benjamin, car l'Éternel avait fait une brèche dans les tribus d'Israël.

WLC ¹⁵ וְהָעָ֥ם נִחָ֖ם לְבִנְיָמִ֑ן כִּֽי־ עָשָׂ֧ה יְהוָ֛ה פֶּ֖רֶץ בְּשִׁבְטֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ¹⁶ Then the elders of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?

LSG ¹⁶ Les anciens de l'assemblée dirent: Que ferons-nous pour procurer des femmes à ceux qui restent, puisque les femmes de Benjamin ont été détruites ?

WLC ¹⁶ וַיֹּֽאמְר֨וּ זִקְנֵ֣י הָעֵדָ֔ה מַה־ נַּעֲשֶׂ֥ה לַנּוֹתָרִ֖ים לְנָשִׁ֑ים כִּֽי־ נִשְׁמְדָ֥ה מִבִּנְיָמִ֖ן אִשָּֽׁה׃

KJV ¹⁷ And they said, There must be an inheritance for them that be escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel.

LSG ¹⁷ Et ils dirent: Que les réchappés de Benjamin conservent leur héritage, afin qu'une tribu ne soit pas effacée d'Israël.

WLC ¹⁷ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ יְרֻשַּׁ֥ת פְּלֵיטָ֖ה לְבִנְיָמִ֑ן וְלֹֽא־ יִמָּחֶ֥ה שֵׁ֖בֶט מִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ¹⁸ Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed be he that giveth a wife to Benjamin.

LSG ¹⁸ Mais nous ne pouvons pas leur donner de nos filles pour femmes, car les enfants d'Israël ont juré, en disant: Maudit soit celui qui donnera une femme à un Benjamite !

WLC ¹⁸ וַאֲנַ֗חְנוּ לֹ֥א נוּכַ֛ל לָתֵת־ לָהֶ֥ם נָשִׁ֖ים מִבְּנוֹתֵ֑ינוּ כִּֽי־ נִשְׁבְּע֤וּ בְנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר אָר֕וּר נֹתֵ֥ן אִשָּׁ֖ה לְבִנְיָמִֽן׃

KJV ¹⁹ Then they said, Behold, there is a feast of the LORD in Shiloh yearly in a place which is on the north side of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goeth up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.

LSG ¹⁹ Et ils dirent: Voici, il y a chaque année une fête de l'Éternel à Silo, qui est au nord de Béthel, à l'orient de la route qui monte de Béthel, à Sichem, et au midi de Lebona.

WLC ¹⁹ וַיֹּאמְר֡וּ הִנֵּה֩ חַג־ יְהוָ֨ה בְּשִׁל֜וֹ מִיָּמִ֣ים ׀ יָמִ֗ימָה אֲשֶׁ֞ר מִצְּפ֤וֹנָה לְבֵֽית־ אֵל֙ מִזְרְחָ֣ה הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ לִמְסִלָּ֔ה הָעֹלָ֥ה מִבֵּֽית־ אֵ֖ל שְׁכֶ֑מָה וּמִנֶּ֖גֶב לִלְבוֹנָֽה׃

KJV ²⁰ Therefore they commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards;

LSG ²⁰ Puis ils donnèrent cet ordre aux fils de Benjamin: Allez, et placez-vous en embuscade dans les vignes.

WLC ²⁰ אֶת־ בְּנֵ֥י בִנְיָמִ֖ן לֵאמֹ֑ר לְכ֖וּ וַאֲרַבְתֶּ֥ם בַּכְּרָמִֽים׃

KJV ²¹ And see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.

LSG ²¹ Vous regarderez, et voici, lorsque les filles de Silo sortiront pour danser, vous sortirez des vignes, vous enlèverez chacun une des filles de Silo pour en faire votre femme, et vous vous en irez dans le pays de Benjamin.

WLC ²¹ וּרְאִיתֶ֗ם וְ֠הִנֵּה אִם־ יֵ֨צְא֥וּ בְנוֹת־ שִׁילוֹ֮ לָח֣וּל בַּמְּחֹלוֹת֒ וִֽיצָאתֶם֙ מִן־ הַכְּרָמִ֔ים וַחֲטַפְתֶּ֥ם לָכֶ֛ם אִ֥ישׁ אִשְׁתּ֖וֹ מִבְּנ֣וֹת שִׁיל֑וֹ וַהֲלַכְתֶּ֖ם אֶ֥רֶץ בִּנְיָמִֽן׃

KJV ²² And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.

LSG ²² Si leurs pères ou leurs frères viennent se plaindre auprès de nous, nous leur dirons: Accordez-les-nous, car nous n'avons pas pris une femme pour chacun dans la guerre. Ce n'est pas vous qui les leur avez données ; en ce cas, vous seriez coupables.

WLC ²² וְהָיָ֡ה כִּֽי־ יָבֹ֣אוּ אֲבוֹתָם֩ א֨וֹ אֲחֵיהֶ֜ם אֵלֵ֗ינוּ וְאָמַ֤רְנוּ אֲלֵיהֶם֙ חָנּ֣וּנוּ אוֹתָ֔ם כִּ֣י לֹ֥א לָקַ֛חְנוּ אִ֥ישׁ אִשְׁתּ֖וֹ בַּמִּלְחָמָ֑ה כִּ֣י לֹ֥א אַתֶּ֛ם נְתַתֶּ֥ם לָהֶ֖ם כָּעֵ֥ת תֶּאְשָֽׁמוּ׃

KJV ²³ And the children of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them.

LSG ²³ Ainsi firent les fils de Benjamin ; ils prirent des femmes selon leur nombre parmi les danseuses qu'ils enlevèrent, puis ils partirent et retournèrent dans leur héritage ; ils rebâtirent les villes, et y habitèrent.

WLC ²³ וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ־ כֵן֙ בְּנֵ֣י בִנְיָמִ֔ן וַיִּשְׂא֤וּ נָשִׁים֙ לְמִסְפָּרָ֔ם מִן־ הַמְּחֹלְל֖וֹת אֲשֶׁ֣ר גָּזָ֑לוּ וַיֵּלְכ֗וּ וַיָּשׁ֙וּבוּ֙ אֶל־ נַ֣חֲלָתָ֔ם וַיִּבְנוּ֙ אֶת־ הֶ֣עָרִ֔ים וַיֵּשְׁב֖וּ בָּהֶֽם׃

KJV ²⁴ And the children of Israel departed thence at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance.

LSG ²⁴ Et dans le même temps les enfants d'Israël s'en allèrent de là chacun dans sa tribu et dans sa famille, ils retournèrent chacun dans son héritage.

WLC ²⁴ וַיִּתְהַלְּכ֨וּ מִשָּׁ֤ם בְּנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בָּעֵ֣ת הַהִ֔יא אִ֥ישׁ לְשִׁבְט֖וֹ וּלְמִשְׁפַּחְתּ֑וֹ וַיֵּצְא֣וּ מִשָּׁ֔ם אִ֖ישׁ לְנַחֲלָתֽוֹ׃

KJV ²⁵ In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.

LSG ²⁵ En ce temps-là, il n'y avait point de roi en Israël. Chacun faisait ce qui lui semblait bon.

WLC ²⁵ בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵ֔ם אֵ֥ין מֶ֖לֶךְ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אִ֛ישׁ הַיָּשָׁ֥ר בְּעֵינָ֖יו יַעֲשֶֽׂה׃
