KJV 1 I AM the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.

VULC 1 [Ego vir videns paupertatem meam
in virga indignationis ejus.

KJV 2 He hath led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light.

VULC 2 Me minavit, et adduxit in tenebras,
et non in lucem.

KJV 3 Surely against me is he turned; he turneth his hand against me all the day.

VULC 3 Tantum in me vertit et convertit
manum suam tota die.

KJV 4 My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.

VULC 4 Vetustam fecit pellem meam et carnem meam ;
contrivit ossa mea.

KJV 5 He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail.

VULC 5 Ædificavit in gyro meo, et circumdedit me
felle et labore.

KJV 6 He hath set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old.

VULC 6 In tenebrosis collocavit me,
quasi mortuos sempiternos.

KJV 7 He hath hedged me about, that I cannot get out: he hath made my chain heavy.

VULC 7 Circumædificavit adversum me, ut non egrediar ;
aggravavit compedem meum.

KJV 8 Also when I cry and shout, he shutteth out my prayer.

VULC 8 Sed et cum clamavero, et rogavero,
exclusit orationem meam.

KJV 9 He hath inclosed my ways with hewn stone, he hath made my paths crooked.

VULC 9 Conclusit vias meas lapidibus quadris ;
semitas meas subvertit.

KJV 10 He was unto me as a bear lying in wait, and as a lion in secret places.

VULC 10 Ursus insidians factus est mihi,
leo in absconditis.

KJV 11 He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces: he hath made me desolate.

VULC 11 Semitas meas subvertit, et confregit me ;
posuit me desolatam.

KJV 12 He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.

VULC 12 Tetendit arcum suum, et posuit me
quasi signum ad sagittam.

KJV 13 He hath caused the arrows of his quiver to enter into my reins.

VULC 13 Misit in renibus meis
filias pharetræ suæ.

KJV 14 I was a derision to all my people; and their song all the day.

VULC 14 Factus sum in derisum omni populo meo,
canticum eorum tota die.

KJV 15 He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath made me drunken with wormwood.

VULC 15 Replevit me amaritudinibus ;
inebriavit me absinthio.

KJV 16 He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he hath covered me with ashes.

VULC 16 Et fregit ad numerum dentes meos ;
cibavit me cinere.

KJV 17 And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I forgat prosperity.

VULC 17 Et repulsa est a pace anima mea ;
oblitus sum bonorum.

KJV 18 And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD:

VULC 18 Et dixi : Periit finis meus,
et spes mea a Domino.

KJV 19 Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

VULC 19 Recordare paupertatis, et transgressionis meæ,
absinthii et fellis.

KJV 20 My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

VULC 20 Memoria memor ero, et tabescet
in me anima mea.

KJV 21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

VULC 21 Hæc recolens in corde meo,
ideo sperabo.

KJV 22 It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

VULC 22 Misericordiæ Domini, quia non sumus consumpti ;
quia non defecerunt miserationes ejus.

KJV 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

VULC 23 Novi diluculo,
multa est fides tua.

KJV 24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

VULC 24 Pars mea Dominus, dixit anima mea ;
propterea exspectabo eum.

KJV 25 The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

VULC 25 Bonus est Dominus sperantibus in eum,
animæ quærenti illum.

KJV 26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

VULC 26 Bonum est præstolari cum silentio
salutare Dei.

KJV 27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke of his youth.

VULC 27 Bonum est viro cum portaverit jugum
ab adolescentia sua.

KJV 28 He sitteth alone and keepeth silence, because he hath borne it upon him.

VULC 28 Sedebit solitarius, et tacebit,
quia levavit super se.

KJV 29 He putteth his mouth in the dust; if so be there may be hope.

VULC 29 Ponet in pulvere os suum,
si forte sit spes.

KJV 30 He giveth his cheek to him that smiteth him: he is filled full with reproach.

VULC 30 Dabit percutienti se maxillam :
saturabitur opprobriis.

KJV 31 For the LORD will not cast off for ever:

VULC 31 Quia non repellet
in sempiternum Dominus.

KJV 32 But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.

VULC 32 Quia si abjecit, et miserebitur,
secundum multitudinem misericordiarum suarum.

KJV 33 For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.

VULC 33 Non enim humiliavit ex corde suo
et abjecit filios hominum.

KJV 34 To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth.

VULC 34 Ut conteret sub pedibus suis
omnes vinctos terræ.

KJV 35 To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the most High,

VULC 35 Ut declinaret judicium viri
in conspectu vultus Altissimi.

KJV 36 To subvert a man in his cause, the LORD approveth not.

VULC 36 Ut perverteret hominem in judicio suo ;
Dominus ignoravit.

KJV 37 Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?

VULC 37 Quis est iste qui dixit ut fieret,
Domino non jubente ?

KJV 38 Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good?

VULC 38 Ex ore Altissimi non egredientur
nec mala nec bona ?

KJV 39 Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

VULC 39 Quid murmuravit homo vivens,
vir pro peccatis suis ?

KJV 40 Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.

VULC 40 Scrutemur vias nostras, et quæramus,
et revertamur ad Dominum.

KJV 41 Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.

VULC 41 Levemus corda nostra cum manibus
ad Dominum in cælos.

KJV 42 We have transgressed and have rebelled: thou hast not pardoned.

VULC 42 Nos inique egimus, et ad iracundiam provocavimus ;
idcirco tu inexorabilis es.

KJV 43 Thou hast covered with anger, and persecuted us: thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.

VULC 43 Operuisti in furore, et percussisti nos ;
occidisti, nec pepercisti.

KJV 44 Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that our prayer should not pass through.

VULC 44 Opposuisti nubem tibi,
ne transeat oratio.

KJV 45 Thou hast made us as the offscouring and refuse in the midst of the people.

VULC 45 Eradicationem et abjectionem posuisti me
in medio populorum.

KJV 46 All our enemies have opened their mouths against us.

VULC 46 Aperuerunt super nos os suum
omnes inimici.

KJV 47 Fear and a snare is come upon us, desolation and destruction.

VULC 47 Formido et laqueus facta est nobis
vaticinatio, et contritio.

KJV 48 Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

VULC 48 Divisiones aquarum deduxit oculus meus,
in contritione filiæ populi mei.

KJV 49 Mine eye trickleth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission.

VULC 49 Oculus meus afflictus est, nec tacuit,
eo quod non esset requies.

KJV 50 Till the LORD look down, and behold from heaven.

VULC 50 Donec respiceret et videret
Dominus de cælis.

KJV 51 Mine eye affecteth mine heart because of all the daughters of my city.

VULC 51 Oculus meus deprædatus est animam meam
in cunctis filiabus urbis meæ.

KJV 52 Mine enemies chased me sore, like a bird, without cause.

VULC 52 Venatione ceperunt me quasi avem
inimici mei gratis.

KJV 53 They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and cast a stone upon me.

VULC 53 Lapsa est in lacum vita mea,
et posuerunt lapidem super me.

KJV 54 Waters flowed over mine head; then I said, I am cut off.

VULC 54 Inundaverunt aquæ super caput meum ;
dixi : Perii.

KJV 55 I called upon thy name, O LORD, out of the low dungeon.

VULC 55 Invocavi nomen tuum, Domine,
de lacu novissimo.

KJV 56 Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.

VULC 56 Vocem meam audisti ; ne avertas aurem tuam
a singultu meo et clamoribus.

KJV 57 Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not.

VULC 57 Appropinquasti in die quando invocavi te ;
dixisti : Ne timeas.

KJV 58 O LORD, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.

VULC 58 Judicasti, Domine, causam animæ meæ,
redemptor vitæ meæ.

KJV 59 O LORD, thou hast seen my wrong: judge thou my cause.

VULC 59 Vidisti, Domine, iniquitatem illorum adversum me :
judica judicium meum.

KJV 60 Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their imaginations against me.

VULC 60 Vidisti omnem furorem,
universas cogitationes eorum adversum me.

KJV 61 Thou hast heard their reproach, O LORD, and all their imaginations against me;

VULC 61 Audisti opprobrium eorum, Domine,
omnes cogitationes eorum adversum me.

KJV 62 The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day.

VULC 62 Labia insurgentium mihi, et meditationes eorum
adversum me tota die.

KJV 63 Behold their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their musick.

VULC 63 Sessionem eorum et resurrectionem eorum vide ;
ego sum psalmus eorum.

KJV 64 Render unto them a recompence, O LORD, according to the work of their hands.

VULC 64 Reddes eis vicem, Domine,
juxta opera manuum suarum.

KJV 65 Give them sorrow of heart, thy curse unto them.

VULC 65 Dabis eis scutum cordis,
laborem tuum.

KJV 66 Persecute and destroy them in anger from under the heavens of the LORD.
