WLC ¹ אֵיכָה֙ יוּעַ֣ם זָהָ֔ב יִשְׁנֶ֖א הַכֶּ֣תֶם הַטּ֑וֹב תִּשְׁתַּפֵּ֙כְנָה֙ אַבְנֵי־ קֹ֔דֶשׁ בְּרֹ֖אשׁ כָּל־ חוּצֽוֹת׃

KJV ² The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

S21 ² Les fils de Sion étaient précieux,
leur valeur était égale à celle de l'or fin.
Comment! Les voilà considérés comme des vases de terre,
faits par les mains du potier!

WLC ² בְּנֵ֤י צִיּוֹן֙ הַיְקָרִ֔ים הַמְסֻלָּאִ֖ים בַּפָּ֑ז אֵיכָ֤ה נֶחְשְׁבוּ֙ לְנִבְלֵי־ חֶ֔רֶשׂ מַעֲשֵׂ֖ה יְדֵ֥י יוֹצֵֽר׃

KJV ³ Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

S21 ³ Même les chacals présentent leurs mamelles
pour allaiter leurs petits,
mais la fille de mon peuple est devenue aussi cruelle
que les autruches du désert.

WLC ³ גַּם־ חָ֣לְצוּ שַׁ֔ד הֵינִ֖יקוּ גּוּרֵיהֶ֑ן בַּת־ עַמִּ֣י לְאַכְזָ֔ר בַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃

KJV ⁴ The tongue of the sucking child cleaveth to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaketh it unto them.

S21 ⁴ La langue du nouveau-né s'attache à son palais,
desséchée par la soif.
Les enfants demandent du pain
et personne ne leur en donne.

WLC ⁴ דָּבַ֨ק לְשׁ֥וֹן יוֹנֵ֛ק אֶל־ חכּ֖וֹ בַּצָּמָ֑א עֽוֹלָלִים֙ שָׁ֣אֲלוּ לֶ֔חֶם פֹּרֵ֖שׂ אֵ֥ין לָהֶֽם׃

KJV ⁵ They that did feed delicately are desolate in the streets: they that were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

S21 ⁵ Ceux qui se nourrissaient des plats les plus raffinés
sont mourants dans les rues,
ceux qui étaient habitués au luxe
embrassent les fumiers.

WLC ⁵ הָאֹֽכְלִים֙ לְמַ֣עֲדַנִּ֔ים נָשַׁ֖מּוּ בַּחוּצ֑וֹת הָאֱמֻנִים֙ עֲלֵ֣י תוֹלָ֔ע חִבְּק֖וּ אַשְׁפַּתּֽוֹת׃

KJV ⁶ For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her.

S21 ⁶ La faute de la fille de mon peuple est plus grande
que le péché de Sodome.
Elle, elle a été détruite en un instant,
sans que personne n'ait eu besoin de lever la main contre elle.

WLC ⁶ וַיִּגְדַּל֙ עֲוֺ֣ן בַּת־ עַמִּ֔י מֵֽחַטַּ֖את סְדֹ֑ם הַֽהֲפוּכָ֣ה כְמוֹ־ רָ֔גַע וְלֹא־ חָ֥לוּ בָ֖הּ יָדָֽיִם׃

KJV ⁷ Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was of sapphire:

S21 ⁷ Ses hommes consacrés étaient plus éclatants que la neige,
plus blancs que le lait;
ils avaient le teint plus rose que le corail,
leur figure était comme le saphir.

WLC ⁷ זַכּ֤וּ נְזִירֶ֙יהָ֙ מִשֶּׁ֔לֶג צַח֖וּ מֵחָלָ֑ב אָ֤דְמוּ עֶ֙צֶם֙ מִפְּנִינִ֔ים סַפִּ֖יר גִּזְרָתָֽם׃

KJV ⁸ Their visage is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: their skin cleaveth to their bones; it is withered, it is become like a stick.

S21 ⁸ Leur aspect est devenu plus sombre que le noir,
on ne les reconnaît pas dans les rues.
Ils n'ont plus que la peau sur les os,
sèche comme du bois.

WLC ⁸ חָשַׁ֤ךְ מִשְּׁחוֹר֙ תָּֽאֳרָ֔ם לֹ֥א נִכְּר֖וּ בַּחוּצ֑וֹת צָפַ֤ד עוֹרָם֙ עַל־ עַצְמָ֔ם יָבֵ֖שׁ הָיָ֥ה כָעֵֽץ׃

KJV ⁹ They that be slain with the sword are better than they that be slain with hunger: for these pine away, stricken through for want of the fruits of the field.

S21 ⁹ Les victimes de l'épée sont plus heureuses
que celles de la famine:
elles, elles se liquéfient,
affaiblies par l'absence du produit des champs.

WLC ⁹ טוֹבִ֤ים הָיוּ֙ חַלְלֵי־ חֶ֔רֶב מֵֽחַלְלֵ֖י רָעָ֑ב שֶׁ֣הֵ֤ם יָז֙וּבוּ֙ מְדֻקָּרִ֔ים מִתְּנוּבֹ֖ת שָׂדָֽי׃

KJV ¹⁰ The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.

S21 ¹⁰ Malgré leur tendresse, de leurs propres mains des femmes
ont fait cuire leurs enfants
pour qu'ils leur servent de nourriture,
à cause du désastre qui frappe la fille de mon peuple.

WLC ¹⁰ יְדֵ֗י נָשִׁים֙ רַחֲמָ֣נִיּ֔וֹת בִּשְּׁל֖וּ יַלְדֵיהֶ֑ן הָי֤וּ לְבָרוֹת֙ לָ֔מוֹ בְּשֶׁ֖בֶר בַּת־ עַמִּֽי׃

KJV ¹¹ The LORD hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger, and hath kindled a fire in Zion, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof.

S21 ¹¹ L'Eternel est allé jusqu'au bout de sa fureur,
il a déversé toute l'ardeur de sa colère
et il a allumé dans Sion un feu
qui a dévoré ses fondations.

WLC ¹¹ כִּלָּ֤ה יְהוָה֙ אֶת־ חֲמָת֔וֹ שָׁפַ֖ךְ חֲר֣וֹן אַפּ֑וֹ וַיַּצֶּת־ אֵ֣שׁ בְּצִיּ֔וֹן וַתֹּ֖אכַל יְסוֹדֹתֶֽיהָ׃

KJV ¹² The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy should have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.

S21 ¹² Ni les rois de la terre ni aucun des habitants du monde n'auraient pu croire
que l'adversaire, l'ennemi, franchirait
les portes de Jérusalem.

WLC ¹² לֹ֤א הֶאֱמִ֙ינוּ֙ מַלְכֵי־ אֶ֔רֶץ יֹשְׁבֵ֣י תֵבֵ֑ל כִּ֤י יָבֹא֙ צַ֣ר וְאוֹיֵ֔ב בְּשַׁעֲרֵ֖י יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

KJV ¹³ For the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, that have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her,

des fautes commises par ses prêtres,
parce qu'ils ont versé le sang d'hommes justes dans la ville.

WLC ¹³ מֵֽחַטֹּ֣את נְבִיאֶ֔יהָ עֲוֺנ֖וֹת כֹּהֲנֶ֑יהָ הַשֹּׁפְכִ֥ים בְּקִרְבָּ֖הּ דַּ֥ם צַדִּיקִֽים׃

KJV ¹⁴ They have wandered as blind men in the streets, they have polluted themselves with blood, so that men could not touch their garments.

S21 ¹⁴ Ils erraient, aveugles, dans les rues,
souillés de sang.
On ne pouvait pas toucher leurs habits.

WLC ¹⁴ נָע֤וּ עִוְרִים֙ בַּֽחוּצ֔וֹת נְגֹֽאֲל֖וּ בַּדָּ֑ם בְּלֹ֣א יֽוּכְל֔וּ יִגְּע֖וּ בִּלְבֻשֵׁיהֶֽם׃

KJV ¹⁵ They cried unto them, Depart ye; it is unclean; depart, depart, touch not: when they fled away and wandered, they said among the heathen, They shall no more sojourn there.

S21 ¹⁵ «Eloignez-vous, impurs! leur criait-on.
Eloignez-vous, éloignez-vous, ne nous touchez pas!»
Ils sont en fuite, ils errent çà et là.
On dit parmi les nations:
«Ils ne séjourneront pas plus longtemps chez nous!»

WLC ¹⁵ ס֣וּרוּ טָמֵ֞א קָ֣רְאוּ לָ֗מוֹ ס֤וּרוּ ס֙וּרוּ֙ אַל־ תִּגָּ֔עוּ כִּ֥י נָצ֖וּ גַּם־ נָ֑עוּ אָֽמְרוּ֙ בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם לֹ֥א יוֹסִ֖יפוּ לָגֽוּר׃

KJV ¹⁶ The anger of the LORD hath divided them; he will no more regard them: they respected not the persons of the priests, they favoured not the elders.

S21 ¹⁶ L'Eternel les a éparpillés,
il ne veut plus les voir.
Les prêtres n'ont pas été respectés,
on n'a pas fait grâce aux anciens.

WLC ¹⁶ פְּנֵ֤י יְהוָה֙ חִלְּקָ֔ם לֹ֥א יוֹסִ֖יף לְהַבִּיטָ֑ם פְּנֵ֤י כֹהֲנִים֙ לֹ֣א נָשָׂ֔אוּ לֹ֥א חָנָֽנוּ׃

KJV ¹⁷ As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.

S21 ¹⁷ Nos yeux s'épuisaient encore
à guetter un secours qui ne venait pas,
notre regard s'était tourné
vers une nation incapable de nous délivrer.

WLC ¹⁷ תִּכְלֶ֣ינָה עֵינֵ֔ינוּ אֶל־ עֶזְרָתֵ֖נוּ הָ֑בֶל בְּצִפִּיָּתֵ֣נוּ צִפִּ֔ינוּ אֶל־ גּ֖וֹי לֹ֥א יוֹשִֽׁעַ׃

KJV ¹⁸ They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come.

S21 ¹⁸ Ils nous ont pourchassés
pour nous empêcher d'aller sur nos places.
Le terme de notre existence s'est approché, notre vie a pris fin.
Oui, le terme de notre existence est arrivé!

WLC ¹⁸ צָד֣וּ צְעָדֵ֔ינוּ מִלֶּ֖כֶת בִּרְחֹבֹתֵ֑ינוּ קָרַ֥ב קִצֵּ֛ינוּ מָלְא֥וּ יָמֵ֖ינוּ כִּי־ בָ֥א קִצֵּֽינוּ׃

KJV ¹⁹ Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.

S21 ¹⁹ Ceux qui nous poursuivaient étaient plus rapides
que les aigles du ciel.
Ils nous ont talonnés sur les montagnes,
ils nous ont tendu des embuscades dans le désert.

WLC ¹⁹ קַלִּ֤ים הָיוּ֙ רֹדְפֵ֔ינוּ מִנִּשְׁרֵ֖י שָׁמָ֑יִם עַל־ הֶהָרִ֣ים דְּלָקֻ֔נוּ בַּמִּדְבָּ֖ר אָ֥רְבוּ לָֽנוּ׃

KJV ²⁰ The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the LORD, was taken in their pits, of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the heathen.

S21 ²⁰ Celui dont dépendait notre vie, celui que l'Eternel avait désigné par onction,
a été pris dans leurs pièges,
lui à propos duquel nous disions:
«Nous vivrons sous son ombre parmi les nations.»

WLC ²⁰ ר֤וּחַ אַפֵּ֙ינוּ֙ מְשִׁ֣יחַ יְהוָ֔ה נִלְכַּ֖ד בִּשְׁחִיתוֹתָ֑ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָמַ֔רְנוּ בְּצִלּ֖וֹ נִֽחְיֶ֥ה בַגּוֹיִֽם׃

KJV ²¹ Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.

S21 ²¹ Réjouis-toi, exprime ta joie, fille d'Edom,
habitante du pays d'Uts!
Vers toi aussi, la coupe passera:
tu t'enivreras et tu montreras ta nudité.

WLC ²¹ שִׂ֤ישִׂי וְשִׂמְחִי֙ בַּת־ אֱד֔וֹם בְּאֶ֣רֶץ ע֑וּץ גַּם־ עָלַ֙יִךְ֙ תַּעֲבָר־ כּ֔וֹס תִּשְׁכְּרִ֖י וְתִתְעָרִֽי׃

KJV ²² The punishment of thine iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more carry thee away into captivity: he will visit thine iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will discover thy sins.

S21 ²² Fille de Sion, ta punition arrive à son terme:
il ne t'enverra plus en exil.
Fille d'Edom, il interviendra contre ta faute,
il dévoilera tes péchés.

WLC ²² תַּם־ עֲוֺנֵךְ֙ בַּת־ צִיּ֔וֹן לֹ֥א יוֹסִ֖יף לְהַגְלוֹתֵ֑ךְ פָּקַ֤ד עֲוֺנֵךְ֙ בַּת־ אֱד֔וֹם גִּלָּ֖ה עַל־ חַטֹּאתָֽיִךְ׃
