   ¹ Alors le royaume des cieux sera semblable à dix vierges qui, ayant pris leurs lampes, sortirent au-devant de l'époux. ² Or, cinq d'entre elles étaient folles, et cinq sages. ³ Car les folles, en prenant leurs lampes, ne prirent point d'huile avec elles ; ⁴ mais les sages prirent, avec leurs lampes, de l'huile dans des vases. ⁵ Mais comme l'époux tardait, elles s'assoupirent toutes et s'endormirent. ⁶ Or, au milieu de la nuit, il y eut un cri : Voici l'époux ! sortez au-devant de lui. ⁷ Alors toutes ces vierges se réveillèrent et préparèrent leurs lampes. ⁸ Et les folles dirent aux sages : Donnez-nous de votre huile ; car nos lampes s'éteignent. ⁹ Mais les sages répondirent : Non, de peur qu'il n'y en ait pas assez pour nous et pour vous. Allez plutôt vers ceux qui en vendent, et en achetez pour vous. ¹⁰ Mais pendant qu'elles allaient en acheter, l'époux vint, et celles qui étaient prêtes entrèrent avec lui aux noces, et la porte fut fermée. ¹¹ Mais plus tard viennent aussi les autres vierges, disant : Seigneur, Seigneur, ouvre-nous ! ¹² Mais il leur répondit : En vérité, je vous le dis, je ne vous connais point. ¹³ Veillez donc ; parce que vous ne savez ni le jour ni l'heure.
   ¹⁴ Car il en est comme d'un homme qui, partant pour un voyage, appela ses serviteurs et leur remit ses biens ; ¹⁵ et à l'un il donna cinq talents, à l'autre deux, à l'autre un ; à chacun selon sa force particulière, et il partit. ¹⁶ Aussitôt celui qui avait reçu les cinq talents s'en alla, les fit valoir, et il gagna cinq autres talents. ¹⁷ De même aussi celui qui en avait deux, en gagna deux autres. ¹⁸ Mais celui qui en avait reçu un, s'en étant allé, creusa dans la terre, et y cacha l'argent de son seigneur. ¹⁹ Or, après un long temps, le seigneur de ces serviteurs vient, et il règle compte avec eux. ²⁰ Et celui qui avait reçu les cinq talents, s'approchant, présenta cinq autres talents, et dit : Seigneur, tu m'as remis cinq talents ; en voici cinq autres que j'ai gagnés. ²¹ Son seigneur lui dit : Bien, serviteur bon et fidèle, tu as été fidèle en peu de chose, je t'établirai sur beaucoup, entre dans la joie de ton seigneur. ²² Celui qui avait reçu les deux talents, s'approchant aussi, dit : Seigneur, tu m'as remis deux talents ; en voici deux autres que j'ai gagnés. ²³ Son seigneur lui dit : Bien, serviteur bon et fidèle ; tu as été fidèle en peu de chose, je t'établirai sur beaucoup ; entre dans la joie de ton seigneur. ²⁴ Mais celui qui avait reçu un talent, s'approchant aussi, dit : Seigneur, je savais que tu es un homme dur, qui moissonnes où tu n'as pas semé, et qui ramasses où tu n'as pas répandu ; ²⁵ et ayant craint, je suis allé, et j'ai caché ton talent dans la terre ; voici, tu as ce qui est à toi. ²⁶ Mais son seigneur lui répondit : Méchant et paresseux serviteur, tu savais que je moissonne où je n'ai pas semé, et que je ramasse où je n'ai pas répandu ; ²⁷ il te fallait donc porter mon argent aux banquiers, et à mon retour j'aurais retiré ce qui est à moi avec l'intérêt. ²⁸ Otez-lui donc le talent, et le donnez à celui qui a les dix talents. ²⁹ Car à tout homme qui a, il sera donné, et il sera dans l'abondance ; mais à celui qui n'a pas, on lui ôtera même ce qu'il a. ³⁰ Et jetez le serviteur inutile dans les ténèbres de dehors ; là seront les pleurs et le grincement des dents.
   ³¹ Or, quand le fils de l'homme viendra dans sa gloire, et tous les anges avec lui, alors il s'assiéra sur le trône de sa gloire ; ³² et toutes les nations seront assemblées devant lui, et il séparera les uns d'avec les autres, comme le berger sépare les brebis d'avec les boucs ; ³³ et il mettra les brebis à sa droite, et les boucs à sa gauche. ³⁴ Alors le Roi dira à ceux qui seront à sa droite : Venez, vous qui êtes bénis de mon Père, possédez en héritage le royaume qui vous a été préparé dès la fondation du monde ; ³⁵ car j'ai eu faim, et vous m'avez donné à manger ; j'ai eu soif, et vous m'avez donné à boire ; j'étais étranger, et vous m'avez recueilli ; ³⁶ j'étais nu, et vous m'avez vêtu ; j'étais malade, et vous m'avez visité ; j'étais en prison, et vous êtes venus vers moi. ³⁷ Alors les justes lui répondront disant : Seigneur, quand est-ce que nous t'avons vu avoir faim, et que nous t'avons nourri, ou avoir soif, et que nous t'avons donné à boire ? ³⁸ et quand est-ce que nous t'avons vu étranger, et que nous t'avons recueilli ; ou nu, et que nous t'avons vêtu ? ³⁹ et quand est-ce que nous t'avons vu malade, ou en prison, et que nous sommes venus vers toi ? ⁴⁰ Et le Roi répondant, leur dira : En vérité, je vous le dis, toutes les fois que vous l'avez fait à l'un de ces plus petits de mes frères, vous me l'avez fait à moi-même. ⁴¹ Alors il dira aussi à ceux qui seront à sa gauche : Allez loin de moi, maudits, dans le feu éternel, qui est préparé au diable et à ses anges ! ⁴² Car j'ai eu faim, et vous ne m'avez pas donné à manger ; j'ai eu soif, et vous ne m'avez pas donné à boire ; ⁴³ j'étais étranger, et vous ne m'avez pas recueilli ; nu, et vous ne m'avez pas vêtu ; malade et en prison, et vous ne m'avez pas visité. ⁴⁴ Alors eux aussi répondront disant : Seigneur, quand est-ce que nous t'avons vu avoir faim, ou avoir soif, ou être étranger, ou nu, ou malade, ou en prison, et que nous ne t'avons pas servi ? ⁴⁵ Alors il leur répondra disant : En vérité je vous le dis, toutes les fois que vous ne l'avez pas fait à l'un de ces plus petits, vous ne l'avez pas non plus fait à moi. ⁴⁶ Et ceux-ci s'en iront au châtiment éternel, mais les justes à la vie éternelle.

   ¹ Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. ² And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. ³ They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: ⁴ But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. ⁵ While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. ⁶ And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. ⁷ Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. ⁸ And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. ⁹ But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. ¹⁰ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. ¹¹ Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. ¹² But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. ¹³ Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

   ³¹ When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: ³² And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: ³³ And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. ³⁴ Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: ³⁵ For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: ³⁶ Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. ³⁷ Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? ³⁸ When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? ³⁹ Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? ⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. ⁴¹ Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: ⁴² For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: ⁴³ I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. ⁴⁴ Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? ⁴⁵ Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. ⁴⁶ And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
