KJV ¹ And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.

KJV ² And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

LSG ² Elles invitèrent le peuple aux sacrifices de leurs dieux ; et le peuple mangea, et se prosterna devant leurs dieux.

VULC ² quæ vocaverunt eos ad sacrificia sua. At illi comederunt et adoraverunt deos earum.

WLC ² וַתִּקְרֶ֣אןָ לָעָ֔ם לְזִבְחֵ֖י אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֑ן וַיֹּ֣אכַל הָעָ֔ם וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲוּ֖וּ לֵֽאלֹהֵיהֶֽן׃

KJV ³ And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.

LSG ³ Israël s'attacha à Baal Peor, et la colère de l'Éternel s'enflamma contre Israël.

VULC ³ Initiatusque est Israël Beelphegor : et iratus Dominus,

WLC ³ וַיִּצָּ֥מֶד יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְבַ֣עַל פְּע֑וֹר וַיִּֽחַר־ אַ֥ף יְהוָ֖ה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁴ And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.

LSG ⁴ L'Éternel dit à Moïse: Assemble tous les chefs du peuple, et fais pendre les coupables devant l'Éternel en face du soleil, afin que la colère ardente de l'Éternel se détourne d'Israël.

VULC ⁴ ait ad Moysen : Tolle cunctos principes populi, et suspende eos contra solem in patibulis, ut avertatur furor meus ab Israël.

WLC ⁴ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֗ה קַ֚ח אֶת־ כָּל־ רָאשֵׁ֣י הָעָ֔ם וְהוֹקַ֥ע אוֹתָ֛ם לַיהוָ֖ה נֶ֣גֶד הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ וְיָשֹׁ֛ב חֲר֥וֹן אַף־ יְהוָ֖ה מִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁵ And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.

KJV ⁶ And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

LSG ⁶ Et voici, un homme des enfants d'Israël vint et amena vers ses frères une Madianite, sous les yeux de Moïse et sous les yeux de toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël, tandis qu'ils pleuraient à l'entrée de la tente d'assignation.

VULC ⁶ Et ecce unus de filiis Israël intravit coram fratribus suis ad scortum Madianitidem, vidente Moyse, et omni turba filiorum Israël, qui flebant ante fores tabernaculi.

WLC ⁶ וְהִנֵּ֡ה אִישׁ֩ מִבְּנֵ֨י יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל בָּ֗א וַיַּקְרֵ֤ב אֶל־ אֶחָיו֙ אֶת־ הַמִּדְיָנִ֔ית לְעֵינֵ֣י מֹשֶׁ֔ה וּלְעֵינֵ֖י כָּל־ עֲדַ֣ת בְּנֵי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְהֵ֣מָּה בֹכִ֔ים פֶּ֖תַח אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵֽד׃

KJV ⁷ And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;

LSG ⁷ A cette vue, Phinées, fils d'Éléazar, fils du sacrificateur Aaron, se leva du milieu de l'assemblée, et prit une lance, dans sa main.

WLC ⁷ וַיַּ֗רְא פִּֽינְחָס֙ בֶּן־ אֶלְעָזָ֔ר בֶּֽן־ אַהֲרֹ֖ן הַכֹּהֵ֑ן וַיָּ֙קָם֙ מִתּ֣וֹךְ הָֽעֵדָ֔ה וַיִּקַּ֥ח רֹ֖מַח בְּיָדֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁸ And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

LSG ⁸ Il suivit l'homme d'Israël dans sa tente, et il les perça tous les deux, l'homme d'Israël, puis la femme, par le bas-ventre. Et la plaie s'arrêta parmi les enfants d'Israël.

VULC ⁸ ingressus est post virum Israëlitem in lupanar, et perfodit ambos simul, virum scilicet et mulierem in locis genitalibus. Cessavitque plaga a filiis Israël :

WLC ⁸ וַ֠יָּבֹא אַחַ֨ר אִֽישׁ־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל אֶל־ הַקֻּבָּ֗ה וַיִּדְקֹר֙ אֶת־ שְׁנֵיהֶ֔ם אֵ֚ת אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְאֶת־ הָאִשָּׁ֖ה אֶל־ קֳבָתָ֑הּ וַתֵּֽעָצַר֙ הַמַּגֵּפָ֔ה מֵעַ֖ל בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁹ And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.

KJV ¹¹ Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

LSG ¹¹ Phinées, fils d'Éléazar, fils du sacrificateur Aaron, a détourné ma fureur de dessus les enfants d'Israël, parce qu'il a été animé de mon zèle au milieu d'eux ; et je n'ai point, dans ma colère, consumé les enfants d'Israël.

KJV ¹² Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

KJV ¹³ And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

KJV ¹⁴ Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.

LSG ¹⁴ L'homme d'Israël, qui fut tué avec la Madianite, s'appelait Zimri, fils de Salu ; il était chef d'une maison paternelle des Siméonites.

VULC ¹⁴ Erat autem nomen viri Israëlitæ, qui occisus est cum Madianitide, Zambri filius Salu, dux de cognatione et tribu Simeonis.

KJV ¹⁵ And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.

LSG ¹⁵ La femme qui fut tuée, la Madianite, s'appelait Cozbi, fille de Tsur, chef des peuplades issues d'une maison paternelle en Madian.

KJV ¹⁸ For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake.
