KJV ¹ And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.

KJV ² And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

VULC ² quæ vocaverunt eos ad sacrificia sua. At illi comederunt et adoraverunt deos earum.

WLC ² וַתִּקְרֶ֣אןָ לָעָ֔ם לְזִבְחֵ֖י אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֑ן וַיֹּ֣אכַל הָעָ֔ם וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲוּ֖וּ לֵֽאלֹהֵיהֶֽן׃

KJV ³ And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.

VULC ³ Initiatusque est Israël Beelphegor : et iratus Dominus,

WLC ³ וַיִּצָּ֥מֶד יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְבַ֣עַל פְּע֑וֹר וַיִּֽחַר־ אַ֥ף יְהוָ֖ה בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁴ And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.

VULC ⁴ ait ad Moysen : Tolle cunctos principes populi, et suspende eos contra solem in patibulis, ut avertatur furor meus ab Israël.

WLC ⁴ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֗ה קַ֚ח אֶת־ כָּל־ רָאשֵׁ֣י הָעָ֔ם וְהוֹקַ֥ע אוֹתָ֛ם לַיהוָ֖ה נֶ֣גֶד הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ וְיָשֹׁ֛ב חֲר֥וֹן אַף־ יְהוָ֖ה מִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁵ And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.

KJV ⁶ And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

VULC ⁶ Et ecce unus de filiis Israël intravit coram fratribus suis ad scortum Madianitidem, vidente Moyse, et omni turba filiorum Israël, qui flebant ante fores tabernaculi.

WLC ⁶ וְהִנֵּ֡ה אִישׁ֩ מִבְּנֵ֨י יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל בָּ֗א וַיַּקְרֵ֤ב אֶל־ אֶחָיו֙ אֶת־ הַמִּדְיָנִ֔ית לְעֵינֵ֣י מֹשֶׁ֔ה וּלְעֵינֵ֖י כָּל־ עֲדַ֣ת בְּנֵי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְהֵ֣מָּה בֹכִ֔ים פֶּ֖תַח אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵֽד׃

KJV ⁷ And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;

VULC ⁷ Quod cum vidisset Phinees filius Eleazari filii Aaron sacerdotis, surrexit de medio multitudinis, et arrepto pugione,

WLC ⁷ וַיַּ֗רְא פִּֽינְחָס֙ בֶּן־ אֶלְעָזָ֔ר בֶּֽן־ אַהֲרֹ֖ן הַכֹּהֵ֑ן וַיָּ֙קָם֙ מִתּ֣וֹךְ הָֽעֵדָ֔ה וַיִּקַּ֥ח רֹ֖מַח בְּיָדֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁸ And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

VULC ⁸ ingressus est post virum Israëlitem in lupanar, et perfodit ambos simul, virum scilicet et mulierem in locis genitalibus. Cessavitque plaga a filiis Israël :

WLC ⁸ וַ֠יָּבֹא אַחַ֨ר אִֽישׁ־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל אֶל־ הַקֻּבָּ֗ה וַיִּדְקֹר֙ אֶת־ שְׁנֵיהֶ֔ם אֵ֚ת אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְאֶת־ הָאִשָּׁ֖ה אֶל־ קֳבָתָ֑הּ וַתֵּֽעָצַר֙ הַמַּגֵּפָ֔ה מֵעַ֖ל בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁹ And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.

VULC ⁹ et occisi sunt viginti quatuor millia hominum.

WLC ⁹ וַיִּהְי֕וּ הַמֵּתִ֖ים בַּמַּגֵּפָ֑ה אַרְבָּעָ֥ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים אָֽלֶף׃

KJV ¹⁰ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

WLC ¹⁰ וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃

KJV ¹¹ Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

VULC ¹¹ Phinees filius Eleazari filii Aaron sacerdotis avertit iram meam a filiis Israël : quia zelo meo commotus est contra eos, ut non ipse delerem filios Israël in zelo meo.

KJV ¹² Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

VULC ¹² Idcirco loquere ad eum : Ecce do ei pacem fœderis mei,

WLC ¹² לָכֵ֖ן אֱמֹ֑ר הִנְנִ֨י נֹתֵ֥ן ל֛וֹ אֶת־ בְּרִיתִ֖י שָׁלֽוֹם׃

KJV ¹³ And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

VULC ¹³ et erit tam ipsi quam semini ejus pactum sacerdotii sempiternum : quia zelatus est pro Deo suo, et expiavit scelus filiorum Israël.

WLC ¹³ וְהָ֤יְתָה לּוֹ֙ וּלְזַרְע֣וֹ אַחֲרָ֔יו בְּרִ֖ית כְּהֻנַּ֣ת עוֹלָ֑ם תַּ֗חַת אֲשֶׁ֤ר קִנֵּא֙ לֵֽאלֹהָ֔יו וַיְכַפֵּ֖ר עַל־ בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ¹⁴ Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.

VULC ¹⁴ Erat autem nomen viri Israëlitæ, qui occisus est cum Madianitide, Zambri filius Salu, dux de cognatione et tribu Simeonis.

WLC ¹⁴ וְשֵׁם֩ אִ֨ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל הַמֻּכֶּ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר הֻכָּה֙ אֶת־ הַמִּדְיָנִ֔ית זִמְרִ֖י בֶּן־ סָל֑וּא נְשִׂ֥יא בֵֽית־ אָ֖ב לַשִּׁמְעֹנִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁵ And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.

VULC ¹⁵ Porro mulier Madianitis, quæ pariter interfecta est, vocabatur Cozbi filia Sur principis nobilissimi Madianitarum.

WLC ¹⁵ וְשֵׁ֨ם הָֽאִשָּׁ֧ה הַמֻּכָּ֛ה הַמִּדְיָנִ֖ית כָּזְבִּ֣י בַת־ צ֑וּר רֹ֣אשׁ אֻמּ֥וֹת בֵּֽית־ אָ֛ב בְּמִדְיָ֖ן הֽוּא׃

KJV ¹⁶ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

VULC ¹⁶ Locutusque est Dominus ad Moysen, dicens :

WLC ¹⁶ וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃

KJV ¹⁷ Vex the Midianites, and smite them:

VULC ¹⁷ Hostes vos sentiant Madianitæ, et percutite eos :

WLC ¹⁷ צָר֖וֹר אֶת־ הַמִּדְיָנִ֑ים וְהִכִּיתֶ֖ם אוֹתָֽם׃

KJV ¹⁸ For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake.

VULC ¹⁸ quia et ipsi hostiliter egerunt contra vos, et decepere insidiis per idolum Phogor, et Cozbi filiam ducis Madian sororem suam, quæ percussa est in die plagæ pro sacrilegio Phogor.
