KJV ³ And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the LORD of Midian.

S21 ³ Moïse dit au peuple: «Equipez parmi vous des hommes pour l'armée et qu'ils marchent contre Madian afin d'exécuter la vengeance de l'Eternel contre Madian.

VULC ³ Statimque Moyses : Armate, inquit, ex vobis viros ad pugnam, qui possint ultionem Domini expetere de Madianitis.

KJV ⁴ Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.

S21 ⁴ Vous enverrez à l'armée 1000 hommes par tribu, de toutes les tribus d'Israël.»

VULC ⁴ Mille viri de singulis tribubus eligantur ex Israël qui mittantur ad bellum.

KJV ⁵ So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

S21 ⁵ On choisit parmi les milliers d'Israël 1000 hommes par tribu, soit 12'000 hommes équipés pour la guerre.

KJV ⁶ And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.

S21 ⁶ Moïse envoya ces 1000 hommes par tribu à l'armée, et avec eux le fils du prêtre Eléazar, Phinées, qui portait les instruments sacrés et les trompettes retentissantes.

KJV ⁷ And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.

VULC ⁷ Cumque pugnassent contra Madianitas atque vicissent, omnes mares occiderunt,

KJV ⁸ And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

S21 ⁸ En plus de ces victimes, ils tuèrent les rois de Madian: Evi, Rékem, Tsur, Hur et Réba, cinq rois de Madian. Ils tuèrent aussi par l'épée Balaam, fils de Beor.

VULC ⁸ et reges eorum, Evi, et Recem, et Sur, et Hur, et Rebe, quinque principes gentis : Balaam quoque filium Beor interfecerunt gladio.

KJV ⁹ And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.

S21 ⁹ Les Israélites firent prisonnières les femmes des Madianites avec leurs petits enfants et ils pillèrent tout leur bétail, tous leurs troupeaux et toutes leurs richesses.

KJV ¹⁰ And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.

KJV ¹¹ And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts.

VULC ¹¹ Et tulerunt prædam, et universa quæ ceperant tam ex hominibus quam ex jumentis,

KJV ¹² And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.

S21 ¹² et ils amenèrent les prisonniers, les prises de guerre et le butin à Moïse, au prêtre Eléazar et à l'assemblée des Israélites. Ceux-ci campaient dans les plaines de Moab près du Jourdain, vis-à-vis de Jéricho.

KJV ¹³ And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.

KJV ¹⁴ And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.

KJV ¹⁵ And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?

KJV ¹⁶ Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.

S21 ¹⁶ Ce sont justement elles qui, sur le conseil de Balaam, ont entraîné les Israélites à commettre l'infidélité envers l'Eternel, dans l'affaire de Peor; alors un fléau a éclaté dans l'assemblée de l'Eternel.

VULC ¹⁶ nonne istæ sunt, quæ deceperunt filios Israël ad suggestionem Balaam, et prævaricari vos fecerunt in Domino super peccato Phogor, unde et percussus est populus ?

KJV ¹⁷ Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.

S21 ¹⁷ Maintenant, tuez tout garçon parmi les petits enfants et tuez toute femme qui a connu un homme en couchant avec lui.

VULC ¹⁷ ergo cunctos interficite quidquid est generis masculini, etiam in parvulis : et mulieres, quæ noverunt viros in coitu, jugulate :

KJV ¹⁸ But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

S21 ¹⁸ Mais laissez en vie pour vous toutes les filles qui n'ont pas connu le lit d'un homme.

KJV ¹⁹ And do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify both yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day.

S21 ¹⁹ »Quant à vous, campez pendant 7 jours hors du camp. Tous ceux parmi vous qui ont tué quelqu'un et tous ceux qui ont touché un mort se purifieront le troisième et le septième jour, ainsi que vos prisonniers.

VULC ¹⁹ et manete extra castra septem diebus. Qui occiderit hominem, vel occisum tetigerit, lustrabitur die tertio et septimo.

KJV ²⁰ And purify all your raiment, and all that is made of skins, and all work of goats' hair, and all things made of wood.

S21 ²⁰ Vous purifierez aussi tout vêtement, tout objet en cuir ou en poil de chèvre et tout ustensile en bois.»

VULC ²⁰ Et de omni præda, sive vestimentum fuerit, sive vas, et aliquid in utensilia præparatum, de caprarum pellibus, et pilis, et ligno, expiabitur.

KJV ²¹ And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This is the ordinance of the law which the LORD commanded Moses;

S21 ²¹ Le prêtre Eléazar dit aux soldats qui étaient allés à la guerre: «Voici ce qu'ordonne la prescription que l'Eternel a transmise à Moïse:

VULC ²¹ Eleazar quoque sacerdos ad viros exercitus, qui pugnaverunt, sic locutus est : Hoc est præceptum legis, quod mandavit Dominus Moysi :

KJV ²² Only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

S21 ²² l'or, l'argent, le bronze, le fer, l'étain et le plomb,

VULC ²² aurum, et argentum, et æs, et ferrum, et plumbum, et stannum,

KJV ²³ Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.

S21 ²³ tout objet qui peut aller au feu, vous le ferez passer par le feu pour le rendre pur. Mais c'est par l'eau de purification que sera purifié tout ce qui ne peut pas aller au feu; vous le ferez passer dans l'eau.

VULC ²³ et omne, quod potest transire per flammas, igne purgabitur : quidquid autem ignem non potest sustinere, aqua expiationis sanctificabitur :

KJV ²⁴ And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye shall come into the camp.

S21 ²⁴ Vous laverez vos vêtements le septième jour et vous serez purs. Ensuite, vous pourrez entrer dans le camp.»

VULC ²⁴ et lavabitis vestimenta vestra die septimo, et purificati postea castra intrabitis.

KJV ²⁵ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

KJV ²⁶ Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the congregation:

S21 ²⁶ «Fais, avec le prêtre Eléazar et les chefs de famille de l'assemblée, le compte du butin, des prises de guerre, tant personnes que bêtes.

VULC ²⁶ Tollite summam eorum quæ capta sunt, ab homine usque ad pecus, tu et Eleazar sacerdos et principes vulgi :

KJV ²⁷ And divide the prey into two parts; between them that took the war upon them, who went out to battle, and between all the congregation:

S21 ²⁷ Partage les prises de guerre entre les combattants qui sont allés à l'armée et toute l'assemblée.

VULC ²⁷ dividesque ex æquo prædam inter eos qui pugnaverunt egressique sunt ad bellum, et inter omnem reliquam multitudinem.

KJV ²⁸ And levy a tribute unto the LORD of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the beeves, and of the asses, and of the sheep:

S21 ²⁸ Sur la part des soldats qui sont allés à l'armée, tu prélèveras une part pour l'Eternel à raison de un sur 500, tant des personnes que des bœufs, des ânes et des brebis.

VULC ²⁸ Et separabis partem Domino ab his qui pugnaverunt et fuerunt in bello, unam animam de quingentis, tam ex hominibus quam ex bobus et asinis et ovibus,

KJV ²⁹ Take it of their half, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for an heave offering of the LORD.

S21 ²⁹ Vous le prendrez sur leur moitié, et tu le donneras au prêtre Eléazar comme une offrande à l'Eternel.

VULC ²⁹ et dabis eam Eleazaro sacerdoti, quia primitiæ Domini sunt.

KJV ³⁰ And of the children of Israel's half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the beeves, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.

S21 ³⁰ Sur la moitié qui revient aux Israélites, tu prendras un sur 50, tant des personnes que des bœufs, des ânes et des brebis, de tout animal, et tu le donneras aux Lévites qui ont la garde du tabernacle de l'Eternel.»

VULC ³⁰ Ex media quoque parte filiorum Israël accipies quinquagesimum caput hominum, et boum, et asinorum, et ovium, cunctorum animantium, et dabis ea Levitis, qui excubant in custodiis tabernaculi Domini.

KJV ³¹ And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses.

KJV ³² And the booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep,

KJV ³⁶ And the half, which was the portion of them that went out to war, was in number three hundred thousand and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred sheep:

KJV ³⁷ And the LORD's tribute of the sheep was six hundred and threescore and fifteen.

KJV ³⁸ And the beeves were thirty and six thousand; of which the LORD's tribute was threescore and twelve.

S21 ³⁸ 36'000 bœufs, dont 72 pour la part de l'Eternel;

VULC ³⁸ et de bobus triginta sex millibus, boves septuaginta et duo :

KJV ³⁹ And the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred; of which the LORD's tribute was threescore and one.

S21 ³⁹ 30'500 ânes, dont 61 pour la part de l'Eternel;

VULC ³⁹ de asinis triginta millibus quingentis, asini sexaginta unus :

KJV ⁴⁰ And the persons were sixteen thousand; of which the LORD's tribute was thirty and two persons.

S21 ⁴⁰ et 16'000 personnes, dont 32 pour la part de l'Eternel.

VULC ⁴⁰ de animabus hominum sedecim millibus, cesserunt in partem Domini triginta duæ animæ.

KJV ⁴¹ And Moses gave the tribute, which was the LORD's heave offering, unto Eleazar the priest, as the LORD commanded Moses.

S21 ⁴¹ Moïse donna au prêtre Eléazar la part réservée comme offrande à l'Eternel, conformément à ce que l'Eternel lui avait ordonné.

VULC ⁴¹ Tradiditque Moyses numerum primitiarum Domini Eleazaro sacerdoti, sicut fuerat ei imperatum,

KJV ⁴² And of the children of Israel's half, which Moses divided from the men that warred,

KJV ⁴³ (Now the half that pertained unto the congregation was three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred sheep,

KJV ⁴⁸ And the officers which were over thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, came near unto Moses:

VULC ⁴⁸ Cumque accessissent principes exercitus ad Moysen, et tribuni, centurionesque, dixerunt :

KJV ⁴⁹ And they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war which are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us.

S21 ⁴⁹ et lui dirent: «Tes serviteurs ont fait le compte des soldats qui étaient sous nos ordres et il ne manque pas un homme parmi nous.

VULC ⁴⁹ Nos servi tui recensuimus numerum pugnatorum, quos habuimus sub manu nostra : et ne unus quidem defuit.

KJV ⁵⁰ We have therefore brought an oblation for the LORD, what every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our souls before the LORD.

S21 ⁵⁰ Comme offrande à l'Eternel, nous apportons chacun les objets d'or que nous avons trouvés – chaînettes, bracelets, anneaux, pendants d'oreilles et colliers – afin de faire l'expiation pour nous-mêmes devant l'Eternel.»

VULC ⁵⁰ Ob hanc causam offerimus in donariis Domini singuli quod in præda auri potuimus invenire, periscelides et armillas, annulos et dextralia, ac murænulas, ut depreceris pro nobis Dominum.

KJV ⁵¹ And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, even all wrought jewels.

S21 ⁵¹ Moïse et le prêtre Eléazar reçurent de leur main tous ces objets travaillés en or.

VULC ⁵¹ Susceperuntque Moyses et Eleazar sacerdos omne aurum in diversis speciebus,

KJV ⁵² And all the gold of the offering that they offered up to the LORD, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.

KJV ⁵³ (For the men of war had taken spoil, every man for himself.)

KJV ⁵⁴ And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, for a memorial for the children of Israel before the LORD.

S21 ⁵⁴ Moïse et le prêtre Eléazar prirent l'or des chefs de milliers et des chefs de centaines et l'apportèrent à la tente de la rencontre, comme souvenir pour les Israélites devant l'Eternel.

VULC ⁵⁴ Et susceptum intulerunt in tabernaculum testimonii, in monimentum filiorum Israël coram Domino.
