KJV ¹ Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle;

MAR ¹ Or les enfants de Ruben et les enfants de Gad avaient beaucoup de bétail, et en fort grande quantité ; et ayant vu le pays de Jahzer, et le pays de Galaad, voici, [ils remarquèrent que] ce lieu-là était propre à tenir du bétail.

VULC ¹ Filii autem Ruben et Gad habebant pecora multa, et erat illis in jumentis infinita substantia. Cumque vidissent Jazer et Galaad aptas animalibus alendis terras,

WLC ¹ וּמִקְנֶ֣ה ׀ רַ֗ב הָיָ֞ה לִבְנֵ֧י רְאוּבֵ֛ן וְלִבְנֵי־ גָ֖ד עָצ֣וּם מְאֹ֑ד וַיִּרְא֞וּ אֶת־ אֶ֤רֶץ יַעְזֵר֙ וְאֶת־ אֶ֣רֶץ גִּלְעָ֔ד וְהִנֵּ֥ה הַמָּק֖וֹם מְק֥וֹם מִקְנֶֽה׃

KJV ² The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying,

MAR ² Ainsi les enfants de Gad et les enfants de Ruben vinrent, et parlèrent à Moïse et à Eléazar le Sacrificateur, et aux principaux de l'assemblée, en disant :

VULC ² venerunt ad Moysen, et ad Eleazarum sacerdotem, et principes multitudinis, atque dixerunt :

WLC ² וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ בְנֵֽי־ גָ֖ד וּבְנֵ֣י רְאוּבֵ֑ן וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ אֶל־ מֹשֶׁה֙ וְאֶל־ אֶלְעָזָ֣ר הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וְאֶל־ נְשִׂיאֵ֥י הָעֵדָ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV ³ Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon,

MAR ³ Hataroth, et Dibon, et Jahzer, et Nimrah, et Hesbon, et Elhaleh, et Sébam, et Nébo, et Béhon ;

WLC ³ עֲטָר֤וֹת וְדִיבֹן֙ וְיַעְזֵ֣ר וְנִמְרָ֔ה וְחֶשְׁבּ֖וֹן וְאֶלְעָלֵ֑ה וּשְׂבָ֥ם וּנְב֖וֹ וּבְעֹֽן׃

KJV ⁴ Even the country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle:

MAR ⁴ Ce pays-là, que l'Eternel a frappé devant l'assemblée d'Israël, est un pays propre à tenir du bétail, et tes serviteurs ont du bétail.

VULC ⁴ terra, quam percussit Dominus in conspectu filiorum Israël, regio uberrima est ad pastum animalium : et nos servi tui habemus jumenta plurima,

WLC ⁴ הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִכָּ֤ה יְהוָה֙ לִפְנֵי֙ עֲדַ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶ֥רֶץ מִקְנֶ֖ה הִ֑וא וְלַֽעֲבָדֶ֖יךָ מִקְנֶֽה׃

KJV ⁵ Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.

MAR ⁵ Ils dirent donc : Si nous avons trouvé grâce devant toi, que ce pays soit donné à tes serviteurs en possession ; [et] ne nous fais point passer le Jourdain.

VULC ⁵ precamurque si invenimus gratiam coram te, ut des nobis famulis tuis eam in possessionem, nec facias nos transire Jordanem.

WLC ⁵ וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ אִם־ מָצָ֤אנוּ חֵן֙ בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ יֻתַּ֞ן אֶת־ הָאָ֧רֶץ הַזֹּ֛את לַעֲבָדֶ֖יךָ לַאֲחֻזָּ֑ה אַל־ תַּעֲבִרֵ֖נוּ אֶת־ הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃

KJV ⁶ And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?

MAR ⁶ Mais Moïse répondit aux enfants de Gad, et aux enfants de Ruben : Vos frères iront-ils à la guerre, et vous demeurerez-vous ici ?

VULC ⁶ Quibus respondit Moyses : Numquid fratres vestri ibunt ad pugnam, et vos hic sedebitis ?

WLC ⁶ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֔ה לִבְנֵי־ גָ֖ד וְלִבְנֵ֣י רְאוּבֵ֑ן הַאַֽחֵיכֶ֗ם יָבֹ֙אוּ֙ לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וְאַתֶּ֖ם תֵּ֥שְׁבוּ פֹֽה׃

KJV ⁷ And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them?

MAR ⁷ Pourquoi faites-vous perdre courage aux enfants d'Israël, pour ne point passer au pays que l'Eternel leur a donné ?

VULC ⁷ cur subvertitis mentes filiorum Israël, ne transire audeant in locum, quem eis daturus est Dominus ?

WLC ⁷ וְלָ֣מָּה אֶת־ לֵ֖ב בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל מֵֽעֲבֹר֙ אֶל־ הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־ נָתַ֥ן לָהֶ֖ם יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ⁸ Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land.

MAR ⁸ C'est ainsi que firent vos pères quand je les envoyai de Kadès-barné pour reconnaître le pays.

VULC ⁸ Nonne ita egerunt patres vestri, quando misi de Cadesbarne ad explorandam terram ?

WLC ⁸ כֹּ֥ה עָשׂ֖וּ אֲבֹתֵיכֶ֑ם בְּשָׁלְחִ֥י אֹתָ֛ם מִקָּדֵ֥שׁ בַּרְנֵ֖עַ לִרְא֥וֹת אֶת־ הָאָֽרֶץ׃

KJV ⁹ For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.

MAR ⁹ Car ils montèrent jusqu'à la vallée d'Escol, et virent le pays, puis ils firent perdre courage aux enfants d'Israël, afin qu'ils n'entrassent point au pays que l'Eternel leur avait donné.

VULC ⁹ cumque venissent usque ad Vallem botri, lustrata omni regione, subverterunt cor filiorum Israël, ut non intrarent fines, quos eis Dominus dedit.

WLC ⁹ וַֽיַּעֲל֞וּ עַד־ נַ֣חַל אֶשְׁכּ֗וֹל וַיִּרְאוּ֙ אֶת־ הָאָ֔רֶץ וַיָּנִ֕יאוּ אֶת־ לֵ֖ב בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לְבִלְתִּי־ בֹא֙ אֶל־ הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־ נָתַ֥ן לָהֶ֖ם יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ¹⁰ And the LORD's anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying,

MAR ¹⁰ C'est pourquoi la colère de l'Eternel s'enflamma en ce jour-là, et il jura, en disant :

VULC ¹⁰ Qui iratus juravit, dicens :

WLC ¹⁰ וַיִּֽחַר־ אַ֥ף יְהוָ֖ה בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא וַיִּשָּׁבַ֖ע לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV ¹¹ Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:

MAR ¹¹ Si les hommes qui sont montés [hors] d'Egypte, depuis l'âge de vingt ans, et au dessus, voient le pays pour lequel j'ai juré à Abraham, à Isaac, et à Jacob ; car ils n'ont point persévéré à me suivre.

WLC ¹¹ אִם־ יִרְא֨וּ הָאֲנָשִׁ֜ים הָעֹלִ֣ים מִמִּצְרַ֗יִם מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה אֵ֚ת הָאֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִשְׁבַּ֛עְתִּי לְאַבְרָהָ֥ם לְיִצְחָ֖ק וּֽלְיַעֲקֹ֑ב כִּ֥י לֹא־ מִלְא֖וּ אַחֲרָֽי׃

KJV ¹² Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD.

MAR ¹² Excepté Caleb, fils de Jéphunné Kénisien, et Josué fils de Nun ; car ils ont persévéré à suivre l'Eternel.

VULC ¹² præter Caleb filium Jephone Cenezæum, et Josue filium Nun : isti impleverunt voluntatem meam.

WLC ¹² בִּלְתִּ֞י כָּלֵ֤ב בֶּן־ יְפֻנֶּה֙ הַקְּנִזִּ֔י וִיהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ בִּן־ נ֑וּן כִּ֥י מִלְא֖וּ אַחֲרֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ¹³ And the LORD's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.

MAR ¹³ Ainsi la colère de l'Eternel s'enflamma contre Israël, et il les a fait errer par le désert, quarante ans, jusqu'à ce que toute la génération qui avait fait ce qui déplaisait à l'Eternel, ait été consumée.

VULC ¹³ Iratusque Dominus adversum Israël, circumduxit eum per desertum quadraginta annis, donec consumeretur universa generatio, quæ fecerat malum in conspectu ejus.

WLC ¹³ וַיִּֽחַר־ אַ֤ף יְהוָה֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיְנִעֵם֙ בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר אַרְבָּעִ֖ים שָׁנָ֑ה עַד־ תֹּם֙ כָּל־ הַדּ֔וֹר הָעֹשֶׂ֥ה הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ¹⁴ And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers' stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.

MAR ¹⁴ Et voici, vous vous êtes mis en la place de vos pères, comme une race d'hommes pécheurs, pour augmenter encore l'ardeur de la colère de l'Eternel contre Israël.

VULC ¹⁴ Et ecce, inquit, vos surrexistis pro patribus vestris, incrementa et alumni hominum peccatorum, ut augeretis furorem Domini contra Israël.

WLC ¹⁴ וְהִנֵּ֣ה קַמְתֶּ֗ם תַּ֚חַת אֲבֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם תַּרְבּ֖וּת אֲנָשִׁ֣ים חַטָּאִ֑ים לִסְפּ֣וֹת ע֗וֹד עַ֛ל חֲר֥וֹן אַף־ יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ¹⁵ For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.

MAR ¹⁵ Que si vous vous détournez de lui, il continuera encore à le laisser au désert, et vous ferez détruire tout ce peuple.

VULC ¹⁵ Quod si nolueritis sequi eum, in solitudine populum derelinquet, et vos causa eritis necis omnium.

WLC ¹⁵ כִּ֤י תְשׁוּבֻן֙ מֵֽאַחֲרָ֔יו וְיָסַ֣ף ע֔וֹד לְהַנִּיח֖וֹ בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר וְשִֽׁחַתֶּ֖ם לְכָל־ הָעָ֥ם הַזֶּֽה׃
