DRB ¹ Et les troupeaux des fils de Ruben et des fils de Gad étaient en grand nombre, en très grande quantité. Et ils virent le pays de Jahzer et le pays de Galaad, et voici, le lieu était un lieu propre pour des troupeaux.

DRB ² Et les fils de Gad et les fils de Ruben vinrent, et parlèrent à Moïse et à Éléazar, le sacrificateur, et aux princes de l'assemblée, disant :

WLC ³ עֲטָר֤וֹת וְדִיבֹן֙ וְיַעְזֵ֣ר וְנִמְרָ֔ה וְחֶשְׁבּ֖וֹן וְאֶלְעָלֵ֑ה וּשְׂבָ֥ם וּנְב֖וֹ וּבְעֹֽן׃

DRB ⁴ le pays que l'Éternel a frappé devant l'assemblée d'Israël, est un pays propre pour des troupeaux, et tes serviteurs ont des troupeaux.

KJV ⁴ Even the country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle:

VULC ⁴ terra, quam percussit Dominus in conspectu filiorum Israël, regio uberrima est ad pastum animalium : et nos servi tui habemus jumenta plurima,

WLC ⁴ הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִכָּ֤ה יְהוָה֙ לִפְנֵי֙ עֲדַ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶ֥רֶץ מִקְנֶ֖ה הִ֑וא וְלַֽעֲבָדֶ֖יךָ מִקְנֶֽה׃

DRB ⁵ Et ils dirent : Si nous avons trouvé faveur à tes yeux, que ce pays soit donné en possession à tes serviteurs ; ne nous fais pas passer le Jourdain.

KJV ⁵ Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.

VULC ⁵ precamurque si invenimus gratiam coram te, ut des nobis famulis tuis eam in possessionem, nec facias nos transire Jordanem.

WLC ⁵ וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ אִם־ מָצָ֤אנוּ חֵן֙ בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ יֻתַּ֞ן אֶת־ הָאָ֧רֶץ הַזֹּ֛את לַעֲבָדֶ֖יךָ לַאֲחֻזָּ֑ה אַל־ תַּעֲבִרֵ֖נוּ אֶת־ הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃

DRB ⁶ Et Moïse dit aux fils de Gad et aux fils de Ruben : Vos frères iront-ils à la guerre, et vous, vous habiterez ici ?

KJV ⁶ And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?

VULC ⁶ Quibus respondit Moyses : Numquid fratres vestri ibunt ad pugnam, et vos hic sedebitis ?

WLC ⁶ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֔ה לִבְנֵי־ גָ֖ד וְלִבְנֵ֣י רְאוּבֵ֑ן הַאַֽחֵיכֶ֗ם יָבֹ֙אוּ֙ לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וְאַתֶּ֖ם תֵּ֥שְׁבוּ פֹֽה׃

DRB ⁷ Et pourquoi découragez-vous les fils d'Israël de passer dans le pays que l'Éternel leur a donné ?

KJV ⁷ And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them?

VULC ⁷ cur subvertitis mentes filiorum Israël, ne transire audeant in locum, quem eis daturus est Dominus ?

WLC ⁷ וְלָ֣מָּה אֶת־ לֵ֖ב בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל מֵֽעֲבֹר֙ אֶל־ הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־ נָתַ֥ן לָהֶ֖ם יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ⁸ Ainsi firent vos pères lorsque je les envoyai de Kadès-Barnéa pour voir le pays :

KJV ⁸ Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land.

VULC ⁸ Nonne ita egerunt patres vestri, quando misi de Cadesbarne ad explorandam terram ?

WLC ⁸ כֹּ֥ה עָשׂ֖וּ אֲבֹתֵיכֶ֑ם בְּשָׁלְחִ֥י אֹתָ֛ם מִקָּדֵ֥שׁ בַּרְנֵ֖עַ לִרְא֥וֹת אֶת־ הָאָֽרֶץ׃

DRB ⁹ ils montèrent à la vallée d'Eshcol, et virent le pays ; et ils découragèrent les fils d'Israël afin qu'ils n'entrassent pas dans le pays que l'Éternel leur avait donné.

KJV ⁹ For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.

VULC ⁹ cumque venissent usque ad Vallem botri, lustrata omni regione, subverterunt cor filiorum Israël, ut non intrarent fines, quos eis Dominus dedit.

DRB ¹⁰ Et la colère de l'Éternel s'embrasa en ce jour-là, et il jura, disant :

DRB ¹¹ Si les hommes qui sont montés d'Égypte, depuis l'âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, voient la terre que j'ai promise par serment à Abraham, à Isaac, et à Jacob ! car ils ne m'ont pas pleinement suivi,

DRB ¹² - excepté Caleb, fils de Jephunné, le Kenizien, et Josué, fils de Nun, car ils ont pleinement suivi l'Éternel.

KJV ¹² Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD.

WLC ¹² בִּלְתִּ֞י כָּלֵ֤ב בֶּן־ יְפֻנֶּה֙ הַקְּנִזִּ֔י וִיהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ בִּן־ נ֑וּן כִּ֥י מִלְא֖וּ אַחֲרֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ¹³ Et la colère de l'Éternel s'embrasa contre Israël, et il les a fait errer dans le désert quarante ans, jusqu'à ce qu'ait péri toute la génération qui avait fait ce qui est mauvais aux yeux de l'Éternel.

KJV ¹³ And the LORD's anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.

VULC ¹³ Iratusque Dominus adversum Israël, circumduxit eum per desertum quadraginta annis, donec consumeretur universa generatio, quæ fecerat malum in conspectu ejus.

DRB ¹⁴ Et voici, vous vous êtes levés à la place de vos pères, une progéniture d'hommes pécheurs, pour ajouter encore à l'ardeur de la colère de l'Éternel contre Israël.

KJV ¹⁴ And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers' stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.

VULC ¹⁴ Et ecce, inquit, vos surrexistis pro patribus vestris, incrementa et alumni hominum peccatorum, ut augeretis furorem Domini contra Israël.

WLC ¹⁴ וְהִנֵּ֣ה קַמְתֶּ֗ם תַּ֚חַת אֲבֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם תַּרְבּ֖וּת אֲנָשִׁ֣ים חַטָּאִ֑ים לִסְפּ֣וֹת ע֗וֹד עַ֛ל חֲר֥וֹן אַף־ יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

DRB ¹⁵ Si vous vous détournez de lui, il le laissera encore dans le désert, et vous détruirez tout ce peuple.

KJV ¹⁵ For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.

VULC ¹⁵ Quod si nolueritis sequi eum, in solitudine populum derelinquet, et vos causa eritis necis omnium.

DRB ¹⁶ Et ils s'approchèrent de lui, et dirent : Nous bâtirons ici des enclos pour nos troupeaux, et des villes pour nos petits enfants ;

KJV ¹⁶ And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones:

VULC ¹⁶ At illi prope accedentes, dixerunt : Caulas ovium fabricabimus, et stabula jumentorum, parvulis quoque nostris urbes munitas :

WLC ¹⁶ וַיִּגְּשׁ֤וּ אֵלָיו֙ וַ֣יֹּאמְר֔וּ גִּדְרֹ֥ת צֹ֛אן נִבְנֶ֥ה לְמִקְנֵ֖נוּ פֹּ֑ה וְעָרִ֖ים לְטַפֵּֽנוּ׃

DRB ¹⁷ et nous nous équiperons promptement [pour marcher] devant les fils d'Israël, jusqu'à ce que nous les ayons introduits en leur lieu ; et nos petits enfants habiteront dans les villes fortes, à cause des habitants du pays.

KJV ¹⁷ But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

VULC ¹⁷ nos autem ipsi armati et accincti pergemus ad prælium ante filios Israël, donec introducamus eos ad loca sua. Parvuli nostri, et quidquid habere possumus, erunt in urbibus muratis, propter habitatorum insidias.

DRB ¹⁸ Nous ne reviendrons pas dans nos maisons, jusqu'à ce que les fils d'Israël aient pris possession chacun de son héritage ;

KJV ¹⁸ We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.

VULC ¹⁸ Non revertemur in domos nostras, usque dum possideant filii Israël hæreditatem suam :

WLC ¹⁸ לֹ֥א נָשׁ֖וּב אֶל־ בָּתֵּ֑ינוּ עַ֗ד הִתְנַחֵל֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אִ֖ישׁ נַחֲלָתֽוֹ׃

DRB ¹⁹ car nous n'hériterons pas avec eux au delà du Jourdain, ni plus loin, parce que notre héritage nous est échu, à nous, de ce côté du Jourdain, vers le levant.

KJV ¹⁹ For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.

DRB ²⁰ Et Moïse leur dit : Si vous faites cela, si vous vous équipez devant l'Éternel pour la guerre,

KJV ²⁰ And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the LORD to war,

VULC ²⁰ Quibus Moyses ait : Si facitis quod promittitis, expediti pergite coram Domino ad pugnam :

WLC ²⁰ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם֙ מֹשֶׁ֔ה אִֽם־ תַּעֲשׂ֖וּן אֶת־ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֑ה אִם־ תֵּחָֽלְצ֛וּ לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה לַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃

DRB ²¹ et que tous ceux d'entre vous qui sont équipés passent le Jourdain devant l'Éternel, jusqu'à ce qu'il ait dépossédé ses ennemis devant lui,

KJV ²¹ And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him,

VULC ²¹ et omnis vir bellator armatus Jordanem transeat, donec subvertat Dominus inimicos suos,

WLC ²¹ וְעָבַ֨ר לָכֶ֧ם כָּל־ חָל֛וּץ אֶת־ הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה עַ֧ד הוֹרִישׁ֛וֹ אֶת־ אֹיְבָ֖יו מִפָּנָֽיו׃

DRB ²² et que le pays soit subjugué devant l'Éternel, et qu'ensuite vous vous en retourniez, alors vous serez innocents envers l'Éternel et envers Israël ; et ce pays-ci sera votre possession devant l'Éternel.

KJV ²² And the land be subdued before the LORD: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the LORD, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD.

VULC ²² et subjiciatur ei omnis terra : tunc eritis inculpabiles apud Dominum et apud Israël, et obtinebitis regiones, quas vultis, coram Domino.

WLC ²² וְנִכְבְּשָׁ֨ה הָאָ֜רֶץ לִפְנֵ֤י יְהוָה֙ וְאַחַ֣ר תָּשֻׁ֔בוּ וִהְיִיתֶ֧ם נְקִיִּ֛ים מֵיְהוָ֖ה וּמִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְ֠הָיְתָה הָאָ֨רֶץ הַזֹּ֥את לָכֶ֛ם לַאֲחֻזָּ֖ה לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ²³ Mais si vous ne faites pas ainsi, voici, vous pécherez contre l'Éternel ; et sachez que votre péché vous trouvera.

KJV ²³ But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.

VULC ²³ Sin autem quod dicitis, non feceritis, nulli dubium est quin peccetis in Deum : et scitote quoniam peccatum vestrum apprehendet vos.

WLC ²³ וְאִם־ לֹ֤א תַעֲשׂוּן֙ כֵּ֔ן הִנֵּ֥ה חֲטָאתֶ֖ם לַיהוָ֑ה וּדְעוּ֙ חַטַּאתְכֶ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר תִּמְצָ֖א אֶתְכֶֽם׃

DRB ²⁴ Bâtissez-vous des villes pour vos petits enfants, et des enclos pour vos troupeaux ; et ce qui est sorti de votre bouche, faites-le.

KJV ²⁴ Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.

VULC ²⁴ Ædificate ergo urbes parvulis vestris, et caulas, et stabula ovibus ac jumentis : et quod polliciti estis, implete.

WLC ²⁴ בְּנֽוּ־ לָכֶ֤ם עָרִים֙ לְטַפְּכֶ֔ם וּגְדֵרֹ֖ת לְצֹנַאֲכֶ֑ם וְהַיֹּצֵ֥א מִפִּיכֶ֖ם תַּעֲשֽׂוּ׃

DRB ²⁵ Et les fils de Gad et les fils de Ruben parlèrent à Moïse, disant : Tes serviteurs feront comme mon seigneur l'a commandé.

KJV ²⁵ And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spake unto Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth.

VULC ²⁵ Dixeruntque filii Gad et Ruben ad Moysen : Servi tui sumus : faciemus quod jubet dominus noster.

WLC ²⁵ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר בְּנֵי־ גָד֙ וּבְנֵ֣י רְאוּבֵ֔ן אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֖ה לֵאמֹ֑ר עֲבָדֶ֣יךָ יַעֲשׂ֔וּ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲדֹנִ֖י מְצַוֶּֽה׃

DRB ²⁶ Nos petits enfants, nos femmes, nos troupeaux et toutes nos bêtes seront là, dans les villes de Galaad ;

KJV ²⁶ Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gilead:

VULC ²⁶ Parvulos nostros, et mulieres, et pecora, ac jumenta relinquemus in urbibus Galaad :

WLC ²⁶ טַפֵּ֣נוּ נָשֵׁ֔ינוּ מִקְנֵ֖נוּ וְכָל־ בְּהֶמְתֵּ֑נוּ יִֽהְיוּ־ שָׁ֖ם בְּעָרֵ֥י הַגִּלְעָֽד׃

DRB ²⁷ et tes serviteurs, tous équipés pour l'armée, passeront devant l'Éternel [pour aller] à la guerre, comme mon seigneur l'a dit.

KJV ²⁷ But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before the Lord to battle, as my lord saith.

VULC ²⁷ nos autem famuli tui omnes expediti pergemus ad bellum, sicut tu, domine, loqueris.

WLC ²⁷ וַעֲבָדֶ֨יךָ יַֽעַבְר֜וּ כָּל־ חֲל֥וּץ צָבָ֛א לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲדֹנִ֖י דֹּבֵֽר׃

DRB ²⁸ Et Moïse commanda à leur sujet à Éléazar, le sacrificateur, et à Josué, fils de Nun, et aux chefs des pères des tribus des fils d'Israël ; et Moïse leur dit :

KJV ²⁸ So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel:

VULC ²⁸ Præcepit ergo Moyses Eleazaro sacerdoti, et Josue filio Nun, et principibus familiarum per tribus Israël, et dixit ad eos :

WLC ²⁸ וַיְצַ֤ו לָהֶם֙ מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֵ֚ת אֶלְעָזָ֣ר הַכֹּהֵ֔ן וְאֵ֖ת יְהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ בִּן־ נ֑וּן וְאֶת־ רָאשֵׁ֛י אֲב֥וֹת הַמַּטּ֖וֹת לִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

DRB ²⁹ Si les fils de Gad et les fils de Ruben passent avec vous le Jourdain devant l'Éternel, tous équipés pour la guerre, et que le pays soit subjugué devant vous, vous leur donnerez le pays de Galaad en possession.

KJV ²⁹ And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle, before the LORD, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession:

VULC ²⁹ Si transierint filii Gad et filii Ruben vobiscum Jordanem omnes armati ad bellum coram Domino, et vobis fuerit terra subjecta, date eis Galaad in possessionem.

WLC ²⁹ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֜ה אֲלֵהֶ֗ם אִם־ יַעַבְר֣וּ בְנֵי־ גָ֣ד וּבְנֵי־ רְאוּבֵ֣ן ׀ אִ֠תְּכֶם אֶֽת־ הַיַּרְדֵּ֞ן כָּל־ חָל֤וּץ לַמִּלְחָמָה֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וְנִכְבְּשָׁ֥ה הָאָ֖רֶץ לִפְנֵיכֶ֑ם וּנְתַתֶּ֥ם לָהֶ֛ם אֶת־ אֶ֥רֶץ הַגִּלְעָ֖ד לַאֲחֻזָּֽה׃

DRB ³⁰ Mais s'ils ne passent pas équipés avec vous, alors ils auront des possessions au milieu de vous dans le pays de Canaan.

KJV ³⁰ But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.

VULC ³⁰ Sin autem noluerint transire armati vobiscum in terram Chanaan, inter vos habitandi accipiant loca.

WLC ³⁰ וְאִם־ לֹ֧א יַֽעַבְר֛וּ חֲלוּצִ֖ים אִתְּכֶ֑ם וְנֹֽאחֲז֥וּ בְתֹכְכֶ֖ם בְּאֶ֥רֶץ כְּנָֽעַן׃

DRB ³¹ Et les fils de Gad et les fils de Ruben répondirent, disant : Nous ferons ainsi que l'Éternel a dit à tes serviteurs ;

KJV ³¹ And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD hath said unto thy servants, so will we do.

WLC ³¹ וַיַּֽעֲנ֧וּ בְנֵי־ גָ֛ד וּבְנֵ֥י רְאוּבֵ֖ן לֵאמֹ֑ר אֵת֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבֶּ֧ר יְהוָ֛ה אֶל־ עֲבָדֶ֖יךָ כֵּ֥ן נַעֲשֶֽׂה׃

DRB ³² nous passerons équipés devant l'Éternel dans le pays de Canaan, et la possession de notre héritage en deçà du Jourdain sera à nous.

KJV ³² We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be our's.

VULC ³² ipsi armati pergemus coram Domino in terram Chanaan, et possessionem jam suscepisse nos confitemur trans Jordanem.

WLC ³² נַ֣חְנוּ נַעֲבֹ֧ר חֲלוּצִ֛ים לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה אֶ֣רֶץ כְּנָ֑עַן וְאִתָּ֙נוּ֙ אֲחֻזַּ֣ת נַחֲלָתֵ֔נוּ מֵעֵ֖בֶר לַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃

DRB ³³ Et Moïse leur donna, - aux fils de Gad, et aux fils de Ruben, et à la demi-tribu de Manassé, fils de Joseph, - le royaume de Sihon, roi des Amoréens, et le royaume d'Og, roi de Basan, le pays, selon ses villes, dans leurs confins, les villes du pays à l'entour.

KJV ³³ And Moses gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about.

WLC ³⁷ וּבְנֵ֤י רְאוּבֵן֙ בָּנ֔וּ אֶת־ חֶשְׁבּ֖וֹן וְאֶת־ אֶלְעָלֵ֑א וְאֵ֖ת קִרְיָתָֽיִם׃

DRB ³⁸ et Nebo, et Baal-Méon, dont les noms furent changés, et Sibma ; et ils donnèrent d'autres noms aux* villes qu'ils bâtirent.

KJV ³⁸ And Nebo, and Baalmeon, (their names being changed,) and Shibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they builded.

DRB ³⁹ - Et les fils de Makir, fils de Manassé, allèrent dans [le pays de] Galaad, et le prirent, et dépossédèrent les Amoréens qui y étaient.

KJV ³⁹ And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorite which was in it.

DRB ⁴⁰ Et Moïse donna Galaad à Makir, fils de Manassé, et il y habita.

KJV ⁴⁰ And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein.

KJV ⁴¹ And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them Havothjair.

VULC ⁴¹ Jair autem filius Manasse abiit, et occupavit vicos ejus, quos appellavit Havoth Jair, id est, Villas Jair.

WLC ⁴¹ וְיָאִ֤יר בֶּן־ מְנַשֶּׁה֙ הָלַ֔ךְ וַיִּלְכֹּ֖ד אֶת־ חַוֺּתֵיהֶ֑ם וַיִּקְרָ֥א אֶתְהֶ֖ן חַוֺּ֥ת יָאִֽיר׃

DRB ⁴² Et Nobakh alla, et prit Kenath et les villages de son ressort, et il l'appela Nobakh, d'après son nom.

KJV ⁴² And Nobah went and took Kenath, and the villages thereof, and called it Nobah, after his own name.

VULC ⁴² Nobe quoque perrexit, et apprehendit Chanath cum viculis suis : vocavitque eam ex nomine suo Nobe.
