KJV ¹ Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.

S21 ¹ Ephraïm m'entoure de mensonge,
et la communauté d'Israël de tromperie.
Juda est encore sans frein vis-à-vis de Dieu,
vis-à-vis du Saint fidèle.

WLC ¹ סְבָבֻ֤נִי בְכַ֙חַשׁ֙ אֶפְרַ֔יִם וּבְמִרְמָ֖ה בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וִֽיהוּדָ֗ה עֹ֥ד רָד֙ עִם־ אֵ֔ל וְעִם־ קְדוֹשִׁ֖ים נֶאֱמָֽן׃

KJV ² The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.

S21 ² Ephraïm se nourrit de vent et poursuit le vent d'est;
chaque jour il multiplie le mensonge et la violence.
Il fait alliance avec l'Assyrie
et on porte de l'huile en Egypte.

WLC ² אֶפְרַ֜יִם רֹעֶ֥ה ר֙וּחַ֙ וְרֹדֵ֣ף קָדִ֔ים כָּל־ הַיּ֕וֹם כָּזָ֥ב וָשֹׁ֖ד יַרְבֶּ֑ה וּבְרִית֙ עִם־ אַשּׁ֣וּר יִכְרֹ֔תוּ וְשֶׁ֖מֶן לְמִצְרַ֥יִם יוּבָֽל׃

KJV ³ He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:

S21 ³ L'Eternel est aussi en procès avec Juda,
et il interviendra contre Jacob en fonction de sa conduite,
il lui paiera un salaire conforme à ses agissements.

WLC ³ וְרִ֥יב לַֽיהוָ֖ה עִם־ יְהוּדָ֑ה וְלִפְקֹ֤ד עַֽל־ יַעֲקֹב֙ כִּדְרָכָ֔יו כְּמַעֲלָלָ֖יו יָשִׁ֥יב לֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁴ Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spake with us;

S21 ⁴ Dans le ventre maternel, Jacob a attrapé son frère par le talon
et, devenu homme, il a lutté avec Dieu.

WLC ⁴ בַּבֶּ֖טֶן עָקַ֣ב אֶת־ אָחִ֑יו וּבְאוֹנ֖וֹ שָׂרָ֥ה אֶת־ אֱלֹהִֽים׃

KJV ⁵ Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial.

S21 ⁵ Il a lutté avec l'ange, et il a été vainqueur,
il a pleuré et lui a adressé des supplications.
Jacob l'avait trouvé à Béthel,
et c'est là que Dieu nous a parlé.

WLC ⁵ וָיָּ֤שַׂר אֶל־ מַלְאָךְ֙ וַיֻּכָ֔ל בָּכָ֖ה וַיִּתְחַנֶּן־ ל֑וֹ בֵּֽית־ אֵל֙ יִמְצָאֶ֔נּוּ וְשָׁ֖ם יְדַבֵּ֥ר עִמָּֽנוּ׃

KJV ⁶ Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment and wait on thy God continually.

S21 ⁶ L'Eternel est le Dieu de l'univers;
son nom est l'Eternel.

WLC ⁶ וַֽיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י הַצְּבָא֑וֹת יְהוָ֖ה זִכְרֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁷ He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.

S21 ⁷ Et toi, reviens à ton Dieu,
garde la bonté et la justice,
et espère toujours en ton Dieu!

WLC ⁷ וְאַתָּ֖ה בֵּאלֹהֶ֣יךָ תָשׁ֑וּב חֶ֤סֶד וּמִשְׁפָּט֙ שְׁמֹ֔ר וְקַוֵּ֥ה אֶל־ אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ תָּמִֽיד׃

KJV ⁸ And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.

S21 ⁸ Ephraïm est un marchand qui a dans sa main des balances fausses:
il aime tromper

WLC ⁸ כְּנַ֗עַן בְּיָד֛וֹ מֹאזְנֵ֥י מִרְמָ֖ה לַעֲשֹׁ֥ק אָהֵֽב׃

KJV ⁹ And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.

S21 ⁹ et il dit: «En vérité, je me suis enrichi,
j'ai acquis de la fortune,
mais c'est entièrement le produit de mon travail.
On ne trouvera chez moi aucune faute, rien qui soit un péché.»

WLC ⁹ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֶפְרַ֔יִם אַ֣ךְ עָשַׁ֔רְתִּי מָצָ֥אתִי א֖וֹן לִ֑י כָּל־ יְגִיעַ֕י לֹ֥א יִמְצְאוּ־ לִ֖י עָוֺ֥ן אֲשֶׁר־ חֵֽטְא׃

KJV ¹⁰ I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

S21 ¹⁰ Et moi, je suis l'Eternel, ton Dieu depuis l'Egypte;
je te ferai encore habiter sous des tentes, comme les jours de fête.

WLC ¹⁰ וְאָנֹכִ֛י יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם עֹ֛ד אוֹשִֽׁיבְךָ֥ בָאֳהָלִ֖ים כִּימֵ֥י מוֹעֵֽד׃

KJV ¹¹ Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.

S21 ¹¹ J'ai parlé aux prophètes,
j'ai multiplié les visions
et par les prophètes j'ai proposé des paraboles.

WLC ¹¹ וְדִבַּ֙רְתִּי֙ עַל־ הַנְּבִיאִ֔ים וְאָנֹכִ֖י חָז֣וֹן הִרְבֵּ֑יתִי וּבְיַ֥ד הַנְּבִיאִ֖ים אֲדַמֶּֽה׃

KJV ¹² And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.

S21 ¹² Si Galaad n'est que trouble, ils seront certainement réduits à rien.
Ils sacrifient des bœufs à Guilgal!
Même leurs autels seront comme des tas de ruines
sur les sillons des champs.

KJV ¹³ And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.

S21 ¹³ Jacob s'est enfui au pays d'Aram,
Israël a servi pour une femme,
et pour une femme il a gardé les troupeaux.

WLC ¹³ וַיִּבְרַ֥ח יַעֲקֹ֖ב שְׂדֵ֣ה אֲרָ֑ם וַיַּעֲבֹ֤ד יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּאִשָּׁ֔ה וּבְאִשָּׁ֖ה שָׁמָֽר׃

KJV ¹⁴ Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his LORD return unto him.

S21 ¹⁴ Par un prophète l'Eternel a fait sortir Israël d'Egypte,
et par un prophète Israël a été gardé.

WLC ¹⁴ וּבְנָבִ֕יא הֶעֱלָ֧ה יְהוָ֛ה אֶת־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם וּבְנָבִ֖יא נִשְׁמָֽר׃

S21 ¹⁵ Ephraïm a amèrement irrité l'Eternel:
son Seigneur rejettera sur lui tout le sang qu'il a versé,
il fera retomber sur lui son mépris.

WLC ¹⁵ הִכְעִ֥יס אֶפְרַ֖יִם תַּמְרוּרִ֑ים וְדָמָיו֙ עָלָ֣יו יִטּ֔וֹשׁ וְחֶ֨רְפָּת֔וֹ יָשִׁ֥יב ל֖וֹ אֲדֹנָֽיו׃
