KJV ² To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;

MAR ² Pour connaître la sagesse et l'instruction, pour entendre les discours d'intelligence ;

VULC ² ad sciendam sapientiam et disciplinam ;

WLC ² לָדַ֣עַת חָכְמָ֣ה וּמוּסָ֑ר לְ֝הָבִ֗ין אִמְרֵ֥י בִינָֽה׃

KJV ³ To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;

MAR ³ Pour recevoir une leçon de bon sens, de justice, de jugement et d'équité.

VULC ³ ad intelligenda verba prudentiæ,
et suscipiendam eruditionem doctrinæ,
justitiam, et judicium, et æquitatem :

WLC ³ לָ֭קַחַת מוּסַ֣ר הַשְׂכֵּ֑ל צֶ֥דֶק וּ֝מִשְׁפָּ֗ט וּמֵישָׁרִֽים׃

KJV ⁴ To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

MAR ⁴ Pour donner du discernement aux simples, et de la connaissance et de l'adresse aux jeunes gens.

VULC ⁴ ut detur parvulis astutia,
adolescenti scientia et intellectus.

WLC ⁴ לָתֵ֣ת לִפְתָאיִ֣ם עָרְמָ֑ה לְ֝נַ֗עַר דַּ֣עַת וּמְזִמָּֽה׃

KJV ⁵ A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

MAR ⁵ Le sage écoutera, et deviendra mieux appris, et l'homme intelligent acquerra de la prudence ;

VULC ⁵ Audiens sapiens, sapientior erit,
et intelligens gubernacula possidebit.

WLC ⁵ יִשְׁמַ֣ע חָ֭כָם וְי֣וֹסֶף לֶ֑קַח וְ֝נָב֗וֹן תַּחְבֻּל֥וֹת יִקְנֶֽה׃

KJV ⁶ To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

MAR ⁶ Afin d'entendre les discours sentencieux, et ce qui est élégamment dit ; les paroles des sages, et leurs énigmes.

VULC ⁶ Animadvertet parabolam et interpretationem,
verba sapientum et ænigmata eorum.

WLC ⁶ לְהָבִ֣ין מָ֭שָׁל וּמְלִיצָ֑ה דִּבְרֵ֥י חֲ֝כָמִ֗ים וְחִידֹתָֽם׃

KJV ⁷ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

MAR ⁷ La crainte de l'Eternel est la principale science ; [mais] les fous méprisent la sagesse et l'instruction.

VULC ⁷ Timor Domini principium sapientiæ ;
sapientiam atque doctrinam stulti despiciunt.]

WLC ⁷ יִרְאַ֣ת יְ֭הוָה רֵאשִׁ֣ית דָּ֑עַת חָכְמָ֥ה וּ֝מוּסָ֗ר אֱוִילִ֥ים בָּֽזוּ׃

KJV ⁸ My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

MAR ⁸ Mon fils, écoute l'instruction de ton père, et n'abandonne point l'enseignement de ta mère.

VULC ⁸ [Audi, fili mi, disciplinam patris tui,
et ne dimittas legem matris tuæ :

WLC ⁸ שְׁמַ֣ע בְּ֭נִי מוּסַ֣ר אָבִ֑יךָ וְאַל־ תִּ֝טֹּ֗שׁ תּוֹרַ֥ת אִמֶּֽךָ׃

KJV ⁹ For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.

MAR ⁹ Car ce seront des grâces enfilées ensemble autour de ta tête, et des colliers autour de ton cou.

VULC ⁹ ut addatur gratia capiti tuo,
et torques collo tuo.

WLC ⁹ כִּ֤י ׀ לִוְיַ֤ת חֵ֓ן הֵ֬ם לְרֹאשֶׁ֑ךָ וַ֝עֲנָקִ֗ים לְגַרְגְּרֹתֶֽיךָ׃

KJV ¹⁰ My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

MAR ¹⁰ Mon fils, si les pécheurs te veulent attirer, ne t'y accorde point.

VULC ¹⁰ Fili mi, si te lactaverint peccatores,
ne acquiescas eis.

WLC ¹⁰ בְּנִ֡י אִם־ יְפַתּ֥וּךָ חַ֝טָּאִ֗ים אַל־ תֹּבֵֽא׃

KJV ¹¹ If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:

MAR ¹¹ S'ils disent : Viens avec nous, dressons des embûches pour tuer ; épions secrètement l'innocent, quoiqu'il ne nous en ait point donné de sujet ;

VULC ¹¹ Si dixerint : Veni nobiscum, insidiemur sanguini ;
abscondamus tendiculas contra insontem frustra ;

WLC ¹¹ אִם־ יֹאמְרוּ֮ לְכָ֪ה אִ֫תָּ֥נוּ נֶאֶרְבָ֥ה לְדָ֑ם נִצְפְּנָ֖ה לְנָקִ֣י חִנָּֽם׃

KJV ¹² Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

MAR ¹² Engloutissons-les tout vifs, comme le sépulcre ; et tout entiers, comme ceux qui descendent en la fosse ;

VULC ¹² deglutiamus eum sicut infernus viventem,
et integrum quasi descendentem in lacum ;

WLC ¹² נִ֭בְלָעֵם כִּשְׁא֣וֹל חַיִּ֑ים וּ֝תְמִימִ֗ים כְּי֣וֹרְדֵי בֽוֹר׃

KJV ¹³ We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:

MAR ¹³ Nous trouverons toute sorte de biens précieux, nous remplirons nos maisons de butin ;

VULC ¹³ omnem pretiosam substantiam reperiemus ;
implebimus domos nostras spoliis :

WLC ¹³ כָּל־ ה֣וֹן יָקָ֣ר נִמְצָ֑א נְמַלֵּ֖א בָתֵּ֣ינוּ שָׁלָֽל׃

KJV ¹⁴ Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

MAR ¹⁴ Tu y auras ton lot parmi nous, il n'y aura qu'une bourse pour nous tous.

VULC ¹⁴ sortem mitte nobiscum,
marsupium unum sit omnium nostrum :

WLC ¹⁴ גּ֭וֹרָ֣לְךָ תַּפִּ֣יל בְּתוֹכֵ֑נוּ כִּ֥יס אֶ֝חָ֗ד יִהְיֶ֥ה לְכֻלָּֽנוּ׃

KJV ¹⁵ My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:

MAR ¹⁵ Mon fils, ne te mets point en chemin avec eux ; retire ton pied de leur sentier.

VULC ¹⁵ fili mi, ne ambules cum eis ;
prohibe pedem tuum a semitis eorum :

WLC ¹⁵ בְּנִ֗י אַל־ תֵּלֵ֣ךְ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ אִתָּ֑ם מְנַ֥ע רַ֝גְלְךָ֗ מִנְּתִיבָתָֽם׃

KJV ¹⁶ For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

MAR ¹⁶ Parce que leurs pieds courent au mal, et se hâtent pour répandre le sang.

VULC ¹⁶ pedes enim illorum ad malum currunt,
et festinant ut effundant sanguinem.

WLC ¹⁶ כִּ֣י רַ֭גְלֵיהֶם לָרַ֣ע יָר֑וּצוּ וִֽ֝ימַהֲר֗וּ לִשְׁפָּךְ־ דָּֽם׃

KJV ¹⁷ Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.

MAR ¹⁷ Car [comme] c'est sans sujet que le rets est étendu devant les yeux de tout ce qui a des ailes ;

VULC ¹⁷ Frustra autem jacitur rete
ante oculos pennatorum.

WLC ¹⁷ כִּֽי־ חִ֭נָּם מְזֹרָ֣ה הָרָ֑שֶׁת בְּ֝עֵינֵ֗י כָל־ בַּ֥עַל כָּנָֽף׃

KJV ¹⁸ And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives.

MAR ¹⁸ Ainsi ceux-ci dressent des embûches contre le sang de ceux-là, et épient secrètement leurs vies.

VULC ¹⁸ Ipsi quoque contra sanguinem suum insidiantur,
et moliuntur fraudes contra animas suas.

WLC ¹⁸ וְ֭הֵם לְדָמָ֣ם יֶאֱרֹ֑בוּ יִ֝צְפְּנ֗וּ לְנַפְשֹׁתָֽם׃

KJV ¹⁹ So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

MAR ¹⁹ Tel est le train de tout homme convoiteux de gain [déshonnête], lequel enlèvera la vie de ceux qui y sont adonnés.

VULC ¹⁹ Sic semitæ omnis avari :
animas possidentium rapiunt.]

WLC ¹⁹ כֵּ֗ן אָ֭רְחוֹת כָּל־ בֹּ֣צֵֽעַ בָּ֑צַע אֶת־ נֶ֖פֶשׁ בְּעָלָ֣יו יִקָּֽח׃

KJV ²⁰ Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:

MAR ²⁰ La souveraine Sapience crie hautement au dehors, elle fait retentir sa voix dans les rues.

VULC ²⁰ [Sapientia foris prædicat ;
in plateis dat vocem suam :

WLC ²⁰ חָ֭כְמוֹת בַּח֣וּץ תָּרֹ֑נָּה בָּ֝רְחֹב֗וֹת תִּתֵּ֥ן קוֹלָֽהּ׃

KJV ²¹ She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,

MAR ²¹ Elle crie dans les carrefours, là où on fait le plus de bruit, aux entrées des portes, elle prononce ses paroles par la ville :

VULC ²¹ in capite turbarum clamitat ;
in foribus portarum urbis profert verba sua, dicens :

WLC ²¹ בְּרֹ֥אשׁ הֹמִיּ֗וֹת תִּ֫קְרָ֥א בְּפִתְחֵ֖י שְׁעָרִ֥ים בָּעִ֗יר אֲמָרֶ֥יהָ תֹאמֵֽר׃

KJV ²² How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

MAR ²² Sots, [dit-elle], jusques à quand aimerez-vous la sottise ? Et jusqu'à quand les moqueurs prendront-ils plaisir à la moquerie, et les fous auront-ils en haine la science ?

VULC ²² Usquequo, parvuli, diligitis infantiam,
et stulti ea quæ sibi sunt noxia cupient,
et imprudentes odibunt scientiam ?

WLC ²² עַד־ מָתַ֣י ׀ פְּתָיִם֮ תְּֽאֵהֲב֫וּ פֶ֥תִי וְלֵצִ֗ים לָ֭צוֹן חָמְד֣וּ לָהֶ֑ם וּ֝כְסִילִ֗ים יִשְׂנְאוּ־ דָֽעַת׃

KJV ²³ Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

MAR ²³ Etant repris par moi, convertissez-vous ; voici, je vous donnerai de mon Esprit en abondance, et je vous ferai connaître mes paroles.

VULC ²³ convertimini ad correptionem meam.
En proferam vobis spiritum meum,
et ostendam vobis verba mea.

WLC ²³ תָּשׁ֗וּבוּ לְֽת֫וֹכַחְתִּ֥י הִנֵּ֤ה אַבִּ֣יעָה לָכֶ֣ם רוּחִ֑י אוֹדִ֖יעָה דְבָרַ֣י אֶתְכֶֽם׃

KJV ²⁴ Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;

MAR ²⁴ Parce que j'ai crié, et que vous avez refusé [d'ouïr] ; parce que j'ai étendu ma main, et qu'il n'y a eu personne qui y prit garde ;

VULC ²⁴ Quia vocavi, et renuistis ;
extendi manum meam, et non fuit qui aspiceret :

WLC ²⁴ יַ֣עַן קָ֭רָאתִי וַתְּמָאֵ֑נוּ נָטִ֥יתִי יָ֝דִ֗י וְאֵ֣ין מַקְשִֽׁיב׃

KJV ²⁵ But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

MAR ²⁵ Et parce que vous avez rejeté tout mon conseil, et que vous n'avez point agréé que je vous reprisse ;

VULC ²⁵ despexistis omne consilium meum,
et increpationes meas neglexistis.

WLC ²⁵ וַתִּפְרְע֥וּ כָל־ עֲצָתִ֑י וְ֝תוֹכַחְתִּ֗י לֹ֣א אֲבִיתֶֽם׃

KJV ²⁶ I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

MAR ²⁶ Aussi je me rirai de votre calamité, je me moquerai quand votre effroi surviendra.

VULC ²⁶ Ego quoque in interitu vestro ridebo,
et subsannabo cum vobis id quod timebatis advenerit.

WLC ²⁶ גַּם־ אֲ֭נִי בְּאֵידְכֶ֣ם אֶשְׂחָ֑ק אֶ֝לְעַ֗ג בְּבֹ֣א פַחְדְּכֶֽם׃

KJV ²⁷ When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.

MAR ²⁷ Quand votre effroi surviendra comme une ruine, et que votre calamité viendra comme un tourbillon ; quand la détresse et l'angoisse viendront sur vous ;

VULC ²⁷ Cum irruerit repentina calamitas,
et interitus quasi tempestas ingruerit ;
quando venerit super vos tribulatio et angustia :

WLC ²⁷ בְּבֹ֤א פַּחְדְּכֶ֗ם וְֽ֭אֵידְכֶם כְּסוּפָ֣ה יֶאֱתֶ֑ה בְּבֹ֥א עֲ֝לֵיכֶ֗ם צָרָ֥ה וְצוּקָֽה׃

KJV ²⁸ Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

MAR ²⁸ Alors on criera vers moi, mais je ne répondrai point ; on me cherchera de grand matin, mais on ne me trouvera point.

VULC ²⁸ tunc invocabunt me, et non exaudiam ;
mane consurgent, et non invenient me :

WLC ²⁸ אָ֣ז יִ֭קְרָאֻנְנִי וְלֹ֣א אֶֽעֱנֶ֑ה יְ֝שַׁחֲרֻ֗נְנִי וְלֹ֣א יִמְצָאֻֽנְנִי׃

KJV ²⁹ For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

MAR ²⁹ Parce qu'ils auront haï la science, et qu'ils n'auront point choisi la crainte de l'Eternel.

VULC ²⁹ eo quod exosam habuerint disciplinam,
et timorem Domini non susceperint,

WLC ²⁹ תַּ֭חַת כִּי־ שָׂ֣נְאוּ דָ֑עַת וְיִרְאַ֥ת יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה לֹ֣א בָחָֽרוּ׃

KJV ³⁰ They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

MAR ³⁰ Ils n'ont point aimé mon conseil ; ils ont dédaigné toutes mes répréhensions.

VULC ³⁰ nec acquieverint consilio meo,
et detraxerint universæ correptioni meæ.

WLC ³⁰ לֹא־ אָב֥וּ לַעֲצָתִ֑י נָ֝אֲצ֗וּ כָּל־ תּוֹכַחְתִּֽי׃

KJV ³¹ Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

MAR ³¹ Qu'ils mangent donc le fruit de leur voie, et qu'ils se rassasient de leurs conseils.

VULC ³¹ Comedent igitur fructus viæ suæ,
suisque consiliis saturabuntur.

WLC ³¹ וְֽ֭יֹאכְלוּ מִפְּרִ֣י דַרְכָּ֑ם וּֽמִמֹּעֲצֹ֖תֵיהֶ֣ם יִשְׂבָּֽעוּ׃

KJV ³² For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

MAR ³² Car l'aise des sots les tue, et la prospérité des fous les perd.

VULC ³² Aversio parvulorum interficiet eos,
et prosperitas stultorum perdet illos.

WLC ³² כִּ֤י מְשׁוּבַ֣ת פְּתָיִ֣ם תַּֽהַרְגֵ֑ם וְשַׁלְוַ֖ת כְּסִילִ֣ים תְּאַבְּדֵֽם׃

KJV ³³ But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

MAR ³³ Mais celui qui m'écoutera, habitera en sûreté, et sera à son aise sans être effrayé d'aucun mal.

VULC ³³ Qui autem me audierit, absque terrore requiescet,
et abundantia perfruetur, timore malorum sublato.]

WLC ³³ וְשֹׁמֵ֣עַֽ לִ֭י יִשְׁכָּן־ בֶּ֑טַח וְ֝שַׁאֲנַ֗ן מִפַּ֥חַד רָעָֽה׃
