KJV ¹ The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD.

WLC ¹ לְאָדָ֥ם מַֽעַרְכֵי־ לֵ֑ב וּ֝מֵיְהוָ֗ה מַעֲנֵ֥ה לָשֽׁוֹן׃

BAN ² Toutes les voies d'un homme sont pures à ses yeux,
Mais l'Eternel pèse les coeurs.

KJV ² All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.

WLC ² כָּֽל־ דַּרְכֵי־ אִ֭ישׁ זַ֣ךְ בְּעֵינָ֑יו וְתֹכֵ֖ן רוּח֣וֹת יְהוָֽה׃

BAN ³ Remets tes affaires à l'Eternel,
Et tes desseins seront affermis.

KJV ³ Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

WLC ³ גֹּ֣ל אֶל־ יְהוָ֣ה מַעֲשֶׂ֑יךָ וְ֝יִכֹּ֗נוּ מַחְשְׁבֹתֶֽיךָ׃

BAN ⁴ L'Eternel a fait toute chose en vue d'un but ;
Ainsi le méchant pour le jour du malheur.

KJV ⁴ The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

WLC ⁴ כֹּ֤ל פָּעַ֣ל יְ֭הוָה לַֽמַּעֲנֵ֑הוּ וְגַם־ רָ֝שָׁ֗ע לְי֣וֹם רָעָֽה׃

BAN ⁵ Tout coeur hautain est en abomination à l'Eternel.
Certainement il ne demeurera point impuni.

KJV ⁵ Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

WLC ⁵ תּוֹעֲבַ֣ת יְ֭הוָה כָּל־ גְּבַהּ־ לֵ֑ב יָ֥ד לְ֝יָ֗ד לֹ֣א יִנָּקֶֽה׃

BAN ⁶ Par la miséricorde et la fidélité la faute est expiée,
Et par la crainte de l'Eternel on se détourne du mal

KJV ⁶ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

WLC ⁶ בְּחֶ֣סֶד וֶ֭אֱמֶת יְכֻפַּ֣ר עָוֺ֑ן וּבְיִרְאַ֥ת יְ֝הוָ֗ה ס֣וּר מֵרָֽע׃

BAN ⁷ Quand l'Eternel prend plaisir aux voies d'un homme,
Il fait que ses ennemis mêmes ont la paix avec lui.

KJV ⁷ When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

WLC ⁷ בִּרְצ֣וֹת יְ֭הוָה דַּרְכֵי־ אִ֑ישׁ גַּם־ א֝וֹיְבָ֗יו יַשְׁלִ֥ם אִתּֽוֹ׃

BAN ⁸ Mieux vaut peu, avec la justice,
Que de grands revenus sans bon droit.

KJV ⁸ Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.

WLC ⁸ טוֹב־ מְ֭עַט בִּצְדָקָ֑ה מֵרֹ֥ב תְּ֝בוּא֗וֹת בְּלֹ֣א מִשְׁפָּֽט׃

BAN ⁹ Le coeur de l'homme médite sa voie,
Mais c'est l'Eternel qui dirige ses pas.

KJV ⁹ A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.

WLC ⁹ לֵ֣ב אָ֭דָם יְחַשֵּׁ֣ב דַּרְכּ֑וֹ וַֽ֝יהוָ֗ה יָכִ֥ין צַעֲדֽוֹ׃

BAN ¹⁰ L'oracle est sur les lèvres du roi ;
Quand il juge, que sa bouche ne soit pas infidèle !

KJV ¹⁰ A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.

WLC ¹⁰ קֶ֤סֶם ׀ עַֽל־ שִׂפְתֵי־ מֶ֑לֶךְ בְּ֝מִשְׁפָּ֗ט לֹ֣א יִמְעַל־ פִּֽיו׃

BAN ¹¹ Une balance et des plateaux justes sont à l'Eternel ;
Tous les poids du sac sont son oeuvre.

KJV ¹¹ A just weight and balance are the LORD's: all the weights of the bag are his work.

WLC ¹¹ פֶּ֤לֶס ׀ וּמֹאזְנֵ֣י מִ֭שְׁפָּט לַֽיהוָ֑ה מַ֝עֲשֵׂ֗הוּ כָּל־ אַבְנֵי־ כִֽיס׃

BAN ¹² Les rois ont en abomination de faire le mal,
Car c'est par la justice que le trône est affermi.

KJV ¹² It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.

WLC ¹² תּוֹעֲבַ֣ת מְ֭לָכִים עֲשׂ֣וֹת רֶ֑שַׁע כִּ֥י בִ֝צְדָקָ֗ה יִכּ֥וֹן כִּסֵּֽא׃

BAN ¹³ Les rois prennent plaisir aux lèvres justes
Et aiment qui profère la droiture.

KJV ¹³ Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.

WLC ¹³ רְצ֣וֹן מְ֭לָכִים שִׂפְתֵי־ צֶ֑דֶק וְדֹבֵ֖ר יְשָׁרִ֣ים יֶאֱהָֽב׃

BAN ¹⁴ La fureur du roi est un messager de mort,
Mais l'homme sage l'apaisera.

KJV ¹⁴ The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.

WLC ¹⁴ חֲמַת־ מֶ֥לֶךְ מַלְאֲכֵי־ מָ֑וֶת וְאִ֖ישׁ חָכָ֣ם יְכַפְּרֶֽנָּה׃

BAN ¹⁵ Quand brille le visage du roi, c'est la vie ;
Sa faveur est comme une pluie de printemps.

KJV ¹⁵ In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.

WLC ¹⁵ בְּאוֹר־ פְּנֵי־ מֶ֥לֶךְ חַיִּ֑ים וּ֝רְצוֹנ֗וֹ כְּעָ֣ב מַלְקֽוֹשׁ׃

BAN ¹⁶ Acquérir la sagesse, combien c'est meilleur que l'or pur,
Et acquérir l'intelligence, meilleur que l'argent !

KJV ¹⁶ How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

WLC ¹⁶ קְֽנֹה־ חָכְמָ֗ה מַה־ טּ֥וֹב מֵחָר֑וּץ וּקְנ֥וֹת בִּ֝ינָ֗ה נִבְחָ֥ר מִכָּֽסֶף׃

BAN ¹⁷ La route des hommes droits, c'est de se détourner du mal ;
Il garde son âme, celui qui prend garde à sa voie.

KJV ¹⁷ The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.

WLC ¹⁷ מְסִלַּ֣ת יְ֭שָׁרִים ס֣וּר מֵרָ֑ע שֹׁמֵ֥ר נַ֝פְשׁ֗וֹ נֹצֵ֥ר דַּרְכּֽוֹ׃

BAN ¹⁸ L'orgueil va devant l'écrasement,
Et la fierté d'esprit devant la chute.

KJV ¹⁸ Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

WLC ¹⁸ לִפְנֵי־ שֶׁ֥בֶר גָּא֑וֹן וְלִפְנֵ֥י כִ֝שָּׁל֗וֹן גֹּ֣בַהּ רֽוּחַ׃

BAN ¹⁹ Mieux vaut être humble avec les débonnaires,
Que de partager le butin avec les orgueilleux.

KJV ¹⁹ Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

WLC ¹⁹ ט֣וֹב שְׁפַל־ ר֭וּחַ אֶת־ מֵֽחַלֵּ֥ק שָׁ֝לָ֗ל אֶת־ גֵּאִֽים׃

BAN ²⁰ Qui fait attention à la parole trouve le bonheur ;
Heureux qui se confie en l'Eternel !

KJV ²⁰ He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.

WLC ²⁰ מַשְׂכִּ֣יל עַל־ דָּ֭בָר יִמְצָא־ ט֑וֹב וּבוֹטֵ֖חַ בַּיהוָ֣ה אַשְׁרָֽיו׃

BAN ²¹ On appelle intelligent l'homme sage de coeur,
Et la douceur du langage augmente l'instruction.

KJV ²¹ The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.

WLC ²¹ לַחֲכַם־ לֵ֭ב יִקָּרֵ֣א נָב֑וֹן וּמֶ֥תֶק שְׂ֝פָתַ֗יִם יֹסִ֥יף לֶֽקַח׃

BAN ²² Le bon sens est, pour qui le possède, une source de vie,
Mais le châtiment des sots, c'est la sottise.

KJV ²² Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.

WLC ²² מְק֣וֹר חַ֭יִּים שֵׂ֣כֶל בְּעָלָ֑יו וּמוּסַ֖ר אֱוִלִ֣ים אִוֶּֽלֶת׃

BAN ²³ Le coeur du sage rend sa bouche sensée
Et, sur ses lèvres, accroît l'instruction.

KJV ²³ The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.

WLC ²³ לֵ֣ב חָ֭כָם יַשְׂכִּ֣יל פִּ֑יהוּ וְעַל־ שְׂ֝פָתָ֗יו יֹסִ֥יף לֶֽקַח׃

BAN ²⁴ Les paroles bienveillantes sont un rayon de miel,
Douces à l'âme, salutaires aux os.

KJV ²⁴ Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

WLC ²⁴ צוּף־ דְּ֭בַשׁ אִמְרֵי־ נֹ֑עַם מָת֥וֹק לַ֝נֶּפֶשׁ וּמַרְפֵּ֥א לָעָֽצֶם׃

BAN ²⁵ Tel chemin semble droit à l'homme,
Dont l'issue aboutit à la mort.

KJV ²⁵ There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

WLC ²⁵ יֵ֤שׁ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יָ֭שָׁר לִפְנֵי־ אִ֑ישׁ וְ֝אַחֲרִיתָ֗הּ דַּרְכֵי־ מָֽוֶת׃

BAN ²⁶ La faim du travailleur travaille pour lui,
Car sa bouche l'y contraint.

KJV ²⁶ He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.

WLC ²⁶ נֶ֣פֶשׁ עָ֭מֵל עָ֣מְלָה לּ֑וֹ כִּֽי־ אָכַ֖ף עָלָ֣יו פִּֽיהוּ׃

BAN ²⁷ L'homme inique prépare le malheur,
Et, sur ses lèvres, il y a comme un feu dévorant.

KJV ²⁷ An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.

WLC ²⁷ אִ֣ישׁ בְּ֭לִיַּעַל כֹּרֶ֣ה רָעָ֑ה וְעַל־ כְּאֵ֣שׁ צָרָֽבֶת׃

BAN ²⁸ L'homme pervers sème les querelles,
Et le rapporteur divise les amis.

KJV ²⁸ A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.

WLC ²⁸ אִ֣ישׁ תַּ֭הְפֻּכוֹת יְשַׁלַּ֣ח מָד֑וֹן וְ֝נִרְגָּ֗ מַפְרִ֥יד אַלּֽוּף׃

BAN ²⁹ L'homme violent séduit son prochain
Et lui fait prendre un chemin qui n'est pas bon.

KJV ²⁹ A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.

WLC ²⁹ אִ֣ישׁ חָ֭מָס יְפַתֶּ֣ה רֵעֵ֑הוּ וְ֝הוֹלִיכ֗וֹ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ לֹא־ טֽוֹב׃

BAN ³⁰ Celui qui ferme les yeux pour méditer la perversité,
Celui qui serre les lèvres, a [déjà] consommé le mal.

KJV ³⁰ He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.

WLC ³⁰ עֹצֶ֣ה עֵ֭ינָיו לַחְשֹׁ֣ב תַּהְפֻּכ֑וֹת קֹרֵ֥ץ שְׂ֝פָתָ֗יו כִּלָּ֥ה רָעָֽה׃

BAN ³¹ Les cheveux blancs sont une couronne d'honneur ;
Elle se trouve sur la voie de la justice.

KJV ³¹ The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.

WLC ³¹ עֲטֶ֣רֶת תִּפְאֶ֣רֶת שֵׂיבָ֑ה בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ צְ֝דָקָ֗ה תִּמָּצֵֽא׃

BAN ³² L'homme lent à la colère vaut mieux que l'homme vaillant,
Et celui qui commande à son coeur, mieux que celui qui prend des villes.

KJV ³² He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

WLC ³² ט֤וֹב אֶ֣רֶךְ אַ֭פַּיִם מִגִּבּ֑וֹר וּמֹשֵׁ֥ל בְּ֝רוּח֗וֹ מִלֹּכֵ֥ד עִֽיר׃

BAN ³³ On jette le sort dans les replis de la robe,
Mais de l'Eternel vient toute décision.

KJV ³³ The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD.

WLC ³³ בַּ֭חֵיק יוּטַ֣ל אֶת־ הַגּוֹרָ֑ל וּ֝מֵיְהוָ֗ה כָּל־ מִשְׁפָּטֽוֹ׃
