BAN ¹ Les méchants fuient sans que personne les poursuive ;

BAN ² Quand un pays est en révolte, les chefs deviennent nombreux ;

KJV ² For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.

BAN ³ Un homme pauvre qui opprime des misérables

KJV ³ A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.

BAN ⁴ Ceux qui délaissent la loi vantent le méchant,
Mais ceux qui observent la loi s'irritent contre eux.

KJV ⁴ They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

WLC ⁴ עֹזְבֵ֣י ת֭וֹרָה יְהַֽלְל֣וּ רָשָׁ֑ע וְשֹׁמְרֵ֥י ת֝וֹרָ֗ה יִתְגָּ֥רוּ בָֽם׃

BAN ⁵ Les gens adonnés au mal ne comprennent pas ce qui est droit,
Mais ceux qui recherchent l'Eternel comprennent tout.

KJV ⁵ Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.

WLC ⁵ אַנְשֵׁי־ רָ֭ע לֹא־ יָבִ֣ינוּ מִשְׁפָּ֑ט וּמְבַקְשֵׁ֥י יְ֝הוָ֗ה יָבִ֥ינוּ כֹֽל׃

BAN ⁶ Mieux vaut un pauvre qui marche dans son intégrité,
Qu'un pervers qui suit deux chemins et qui est riche.

KJV ⁶ Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

Qui fréquente les libertins fait honte à son père.

KJV ⁷ Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.

WLC ⁷ נוֹצֵ֣ר תּ֭וֹרָה בֵּ֣ן מֵבִ֑ין וְרֹעֶה זֽ֝וֹלְלִ֗ים יַכְלִ֥ים אָבִֽיו׃

BAN ⁸ Celui qui accroît son bien par l'intérêt et l'usure,
L'amasse pour celui qui a pitié des pauvres.

KJV ⁸ He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

WLC ⁸ מַרְבֶּ֣ה ה֭וֹנוֹ בְּנֶ֣שֶׁךְ לְחוֹנֵ֖ן דַּלִּ֣ים יִקְבְּצֶֽנּוּ׃

BAN ⁹ Qui détourne son oreille pour ne pas entendre la loi,
Sa prière même est une abomination.

KJV ⁹ He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

WLC ⁹ מֵסִ֣יר אָ֭זְנוֹ מִשְּׁמֹ֣עַ תּוֹרָ֑ה גַּֽם־ תְּ֝פִלָּת֗וֹ תּוֹעֵבָֽה׃

BAN ¹⁰ Qui égare les justes dans une voie mauvaise
Tombe dans la fosse qu'il a creusée ;
Mais les hommes intègres ont le bonheur en partage.

KJV ¹⁰ Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.

Mais qui poursuit des choses vaines sera rassasié de misère.

KJV ¹⁹ He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

BAN ²⁰ L'homme fidèle est comblé de bénédictions ;
Celui qui a hâte de s'enrichir ne restera pas impuni.

KJV ²⁰ A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

WLC ²⁰ אִ֣ישׁ אֱ֭מוּנוֹת רַב־ בְּרָכ֑וֹת וְאָ֥ץ לְ֝הַעֲשִׁ֗יר לֹ֣א יִנָּקֶֽה׃

BAN ²¹ Il n'est pas bon de faire acception de personnes,
Et [cependant] pour un morceau de pain on commet le forfait.

KJV ²¹ To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.

WLC ²¹ הַֽכֵּר־ פָּנִ֥ים לֹא־ ט֑וֹב וְעַל־ פַּת־ לֶ֝֗חֶם יִפְשַׁע־ גָּֽבֶר׃

BAN ²² L'homme envieux se hâte de s'enrichir,
Et il ne sait pas que la misère lui surviendra.

KJV ²² He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

BAN ²³ Celui qui reprend un homme trouvera faveur dans la suite
Plutôt que celui qui flatte.

KJV ²³ He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.

WLC ²³ מ֘וֹכִ֤יחַ אָדָ֣ם אַ֭חֲרַי חֵ֣ן יִמְצָ֑א מִֽמַּחֲלִ֥יק לָשֽׁוֹן׃

BAN ²⁴ Celui qui dépouille son père et sa mère et qui dit que ce n'est point un crime,
Est compagnon du destructeur.

KJV ²⁴ Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.

BAN ²⁵ L'homme avide excite les querelles ;
Mais celui qui se confie en l'Eternel sera rassasié.

KJV ²⁵ He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

WLC ²⁵ רְחַב־ נֶ֭פֶשׁ יְגָרֶ֣ה מָד֑וֹן וּבוֹטֵ֖חַ עַל־ יְהוָ֣ה יְדֻשָּֽׁן׃

BAN ²⁶ Qui se confie en son propre coeur est un sot,
Mais qui marche dans la sagesse échappera.

KJV ²⁶ He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

WLC ²⁶ בּוֹטֵ֣חַ בְּ֭לִבּוֹ ה֣וּא כְסִ֑יל וְהוֹלֵ֥ךְ בְּ֝חָכְמָ֗ה ה֣וּא יִמָּלֵֽט׃
