KJV ¹ The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.

WLC ¹ דִּ֭בְרֵי לְמוּאֵ֣ל מֶ֑לֶךְ מַ֝שָּׂ֗א אֲ‍ֽשֶׁר־ יִסְּרַ֥תּוּ אִמּֽוֹ׃

BCC ² Que te dirai-je, mon fils ? Que te dirai-je, fils de mes entrailles ? Que te dirai-je, mon fils, objet de mes voeux ?

KJV ² What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?

WLC ² מַה־ בְּ֭רִי וּמַֽה־ בַּר־ בִּטְנִ֑י וּ֝מֶה בַּר־ נְדָרָֽי׃

BCC ³ Ne livre pas ta vigueur aux femmes, et tes voies à celles qui perdent les rois.

KJV ³ Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

WLC ³ אַל־ תִּתֵּ֣ן לַנָּשִׁ֣ים חֵילֶ֑ךָ וּ֝דְרָכֶ֗יךָ לַֽמְח֥וֹת מְלָכִֽין׃

BCC ⁴ Ce n'est point aux rois, Lamuel, ce n'est point aux rois de boire du vin, ni aux puissants de rechercher les liqueurs fermentées :

KJV ⁴ It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

WLC ⁴ אַ֤ל לַֽמְלָכִ֨ים ׀ לְֽמוֹאֵ֗ל אַ֣ל לַֽמְלָכִ֣ים שְׁתוֹ־ יָ֑יִן וּ֝לְרוֹזְנִ֗ים שֵׁכָֽר׃

BCC ⁵ de peur qu'en buvant ils n'oublient la loi, et ne faussent le droit de tous les malheureux.

KJV ⁵ Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

WLC ⁵ פֶּן־ יִ֭שְׁתֶּה וְיִשְׁכַּ֣ח מְחֻקָּ֑ק וִֽ֝ישַׁנֶּה דִּ֣ין כָּל־ בְּנֵי־ עֹֽנִי׃

BCC ⁶ Donnez des liqueurs fortes à celui qui périt, et du vin à celui dont l'âme est remplie d'amertume :

KJV ⁶ Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

WLC ⁶ תְּנוּ־ שֵׁכָ֣ר לְאוֹבֵ֑ד וְ֝יַיִן לְמָ֣רֵי נָֽפֶשׁ׃

BCC ⁷ qu'il boive, et qu'il oublie sa misère, et qu'il ne se souvienne plus de ses peines.

KJV ⁷ Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

WLC ⁷ יִ֭שְׁתֶּה וְיִשְׁכַּ֣ח רִישׁ֑וֹ וַ֝עֲמָל֗וֹ לֹ֣א יִזְכָּר־ עֽוֹד׃

BCC ⁸ Ouvre ta bouche en faveur du muet, pour la cause de tous les abandonnés.

KJV ⁸ Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.

WLC ⁸ פְּתַח־ פִּ֥יךָ לְאִלֵּ֑ם אֶל־ דִּ֝֗ין כָּל־ בְּנֵ֥י חֲלֽוֹף׃

BCC ⁹ Ouvre ta bouche, rends de justes arrêts, et fais justice au malheureux et à l'indigent.

KJV ⁹ Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

WLC ⁹ פְּתַח־ פִּ֥יךָ שְׁפָט־ צֶ֑דֶק וְ֝דִ֗ין עָנִ֥י וְאֶבְיֽוֹן׃

BCC ¹⁰ Qui peut trouver une femme forte ? Son prix l'emporte de loin sur celui des perles.

KJV ¹⁰ Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

WLC ¹⁰ אֵֽשֶׁת־ חַ֭יִל מִ֣י יִמְצָ֑א וְרָחֹ֖ק מִפְּנִינִ֣ים מִכְרָֽהּ׃

BCC ¹¹ Le coeur de son mari a confiance en elle, et les profits ne lui feront pas défaut.

KJV ¹¹ The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

WLC ¹¹ בָּ֣טַח בָּ֭הּ לֵ֣ב בַּעְלָ֑הּ וְ֝שָׁלָ֗ל לֹ֣א יֶחְסָֽר׃

BCC ¹² Elle lui fait du bien, et non du mal, tous les jours de sa vie.

KJV ¹² She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

WLC ¹² גְּמָלַ֣תְהוּ ט֣וֹב וְלֹא־ רָ֑ע כֹּ֝֗ל יְמֵ֣י חַיֶּֽיה׃

BCC ¹³ Elle recherche de la laine et du lin, et travaille de sa main joyeuse.

KJV ¹³ She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

WLC ¹³ דָּ֭רְשָׁה צֶ֣מֶר וּפִשְׁתִּ֑ים וַ֝תַּ֗עַשׂ בְּחֵ֣פֶץ כַּפֶּֽיהָ׃

BCC ¹⁴ Elle est comme le vaisseau du marchand, elle apporte son pain de loin.

KJV ¹⁴ She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

WLC ¹⁴ הָ֭יְתָה כָּאֳנִיּ֣וֹת סוֹחֵ֑ר מִ֝מֶּרְחָ֗ק תָּבִ֥יא לַחְמָֽהּ׃

BCC ¹⁵ Elle se lève lorsqu'il est encore nuit, et elle donne la nourriture à sa maison, et la tâche à ses servantes.

KJV ¹⁵ She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

WLC ¹⁵ וַתָּ֤קָם ׀ בְּע֬וֹד לַ֗יְלָה וַתִּתֵּ֣ן טֶ֣רֶף לְבֵיתָ֑הּ וְ֝חֹ֗ק לְנַעֲרֹתֶֽיהָ׃

BCC ¹⁶ Elle pense à un champ, et elle l'acquiert ; du fruit de ses mains, elle plante une vigne.

KJV ¹⁶ She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

WLC ¹⁶ זָמְמָ֣ה שָׂ֭דֶה וַתִּקָּחֵ֑הוּ מִפְּרִ֥י כַ֝פֶּ֗יהָ כָּֽרֶם׃

BCC ¹⁷ Elle ceint de force ses reins, et elle affermit ses bras.

KJV ¹⁷ She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

WLC ¹⁷ חָֽגְרָ֣ה בְע֣וֹז מָתְנֶ֑יהָ וַ֝תְּאַמֵּ֗ץ זְרֹעוֹתֶֽיהָ׃

BCC ¹⁸ Elle sent que son gain est bon ; sa lampe ne s'éteint pas pendant la nuit.

KJV ¹⁸ She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

WLC ¹⁸ טָ֭עֲמָה כִּי־ ט֣וֹב סַחְרָ֑הּ לֹֽא־ יִכְבֶּ֖ה נֵרָֽהּ׃

BCC ¹⁹ Elle met la main à la quenouille, et ses doigts prennent le fuseau.

KJV ¹⁹ She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

WLC ¹⁹ יָ֭דֶיהָ שִׁלְּחָ֣ה בַכִּישׁ֑וֹר וְ֝כַפֶּ֗יהָ תָּ֣מְכוּ פָֽלֶךְ׃

BCC ²⁰ Elle tend la main au malheureux, elle ouvre la main à l'indigent.

KJV ²⁰ She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

WLC ²⁰ כַּ֭פָּהּ פָּרְשָׂ֣ה לֶעָנִ֑י וְ֝יָדֶ֗יהָ שִׁלְּחָ֥ה לָֽאֶבְיֽוֹן׃

BCC ²¹ Elle ne craint pas la neige pour sa maison, car toute sa maison est vêtue de cramoisi.

KJV ²¹ She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

WLC ²¹ לֹא־ תִירָ֣א לְבֵיתָ֣הּ מִשָּׁ֑לֶג כִּ֥י כָל־ בֵּ֝יתָ֗הּ לָבֻ֥שׁ שָׁנִֽים׃

BCC ²² Elle se fait des couvertures, la byssus et la pourpre sont ses vêtements.

KJV ²² She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

WLC ²² מַרְבַדִּ֥ים עָֽשְׂתָה־ לָּ֑הּ שֵׁ֖שׁ וְאַרְגָּמָ֣ן לְבוּשָֽׁהּ׃

BCC ²³ Son époux est bien connu aux portes de la ville, lorsqu'il siège avec les anciens du pays.

KJV ²³ Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

WLC ²³ נוֹדָ֣ע בַּשְּׁעָרִ֣ים בַּעְלָ֑הּ בְּ֝שִׁבְתּ֗וֹ עִם־ זִקְנֵי־ אָֽרֶץ׃

BCC ²⁴ Elle fait des chemises et les vend, et elle livre des ceintures au marchand.

KJV ²⁴ She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

WLC ²⁴ סָדִ֣ין עָ֭שְׂתָה וַתִּמְכֹּ֑ר וַ֝חֲג֗וֹר נָתְנָ֥ה לַֽכְּנַעֲנִֽי׃

BCC ²⁵ La force et la grâce sont sa parure, et elle se rit de l'avenir.

KJV ²⁵ Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

WLC ²⁵ עֹז־ וְהָדָ֥ר לְבוּשָׁ֑הּ וַ֝תִּשְׂחַ֗ק לְי֣וֹם אַחֲרֽוֹן׃

BCC ²⁶ Elle ouvre la bouche avec sagesse, et les bonnes paroles sont sur sa langue.

KJV ²⁶ She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

WLC ²⁶ פִּ֭יהָ פָּתְחָ֣ה בְחָכְמָ֑ה וְתֽוֹרַת־ חֶ֝֗סֶד עַל־ לְשׁוֹנָֽהּ׃

BCC ²⁷ Elle surveille les sentiers de sa maison, et elle ne mange pas le pain d'oisiveté.

KJV ²⁷ She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

WLC ²⁷ צ֭וֹפִיָּה הֲלִיכ֣וֹת בֵּיתָ֑הּ וְלֶ֥חֶם עַ֝צְל֗וּת לֹ֣א תֹאכֵֽל׃

BCC ²⁸ Ses fils se lèvent et la proclament heureuse ; son époux se lève et lui donne des éloges :

KJV ²⁸ Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

WLC ²⁸ קָ֣מוּ בָ֭נֶיהָ וַֽיְאַשְּׁר֑וּהָ בַּ֝עְלָ֗הּ וַֽיְהַֽלְלָהּ׃

BCC ²⁹ "Beaucoup de filles se sont montrées vertueuses ; mais toi, tu les surpasses toutes."

KJV ²⁹ Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

WLC ²⁹ רַבּ֣וֹת בָּ֭נוֹת עָ֣שׂוּ חָ֑יִל וְ֝אַ֗תְּ עָלִ֥ית עַל־ כֻּלָּֽנָה׃

BCC ³⁰ Trompeuse est la grâce, et vaine est la beauté ; la femme qui craint Yahweh est celle qui sera louée.

KJV ³⁰ Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

WLC ³⁰ שֶׁ֣קֶר הַ֭חֵן וְהֶ֣בֶל הַיֹּ֑פִי אִשָּׁ֥ה יִרְאַת־ יְ֝הוָ֗ה הִ֣יא תִתְהַלָּֽל׃

BCC ³¹ Donnez-lui du fruit de ses mains, et que ses oeuvres disent sa louange aux portes de la ville.

KJV ³¹ Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
