BAN ¹ Ecoutez, mes fils, l'instruction d'un père ;
Soyez attentifs, pour acquérir du discernement.

KJV ¹ Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

BAN ² Car je vous donne une bonne doctrine ;
N'abandonnez point mes enseignements.

KJV ² For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.

BAN ³ Car j'ai été, moi aussi, un fils devant mon père,
Un enfant tendre et unique auprès de ma mère.

KJV ³ For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

BAN ⁴ Il m'a instruit et m'a dit :
Que ton coeur retienne mes paroles !
Observe mes préceptes, et tu vivras.

KJV ⁴ He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

BAN ⁵ Acquiers la sagesse ; acquiers l'intelligence !
Ne l'oublie pas et ne t'écarte pas des paroles de ma bouche.

KJV ⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

BAN ⁶ Ne l'abandonne pas, et elle te gardera ;
Aime-la, et elle te protégera.

KJV ⁶ Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.

BAN ⁷ Le commencement de la sagesse, c'est : Acquiers la sagesse !
Acquiers l'intelligence au prix de tout ton avoir.

KJV ⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

BAN ⁸ Exalte-la, et elle t'élèvera ;
Elle fera ta gloire, si tu l'embrasses.

KJV ⁸ Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

BAN ⁹ Elle placera sur ta tête une couronne gracieuse
Elle te fera don d'un diadème magnifique.

KJV ⁹ She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

BAN ¹⁰ Ecoute, mon fils, et reçois mes paroles ;
Les années de ta vie en seront multipliées.

KJV ¹⁰ Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

BAN ¹¹ C'est la voie de la sagesse que je te montre ;
Je te fais marcher dans les sentiers de la droiture

KJV ¹¹ I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.

BAN ¹² Quand tu marcheras, tes pas ne seront pas gênés ;
Si tu cours, tu ne trébucheras pas.

KJV ¹² When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

BAN ¹³ Saisis l'instruction, ne la lâche pas !
Garde-la, car elle est ta vie.

KJV ¹³ Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.

BAN ¹⁴ Ne marche pas dans la voie des méchants ;
Ne t'avance pas sur le chemin des hommes mauvais.

KJV ¹⁴ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

BAN ¹⁵ Evite-le ! N'y passe pas !
Eloigne-t-en et passe outre !

KJV ¹⁵ Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

BAN ¹⁶ Car ils ne dormiraient pas, s'ils n'avaient fait du mal ;
Le sommeil leur serait ravi, s'ils n'avaient fait tomber quelqu'un.

KJV ¹⁶ For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

BAN ¹⁷ Car ils se nourrissent du pain de la perversité,
Ils boivent le vin de la violence.

KJV ¹⁷ For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

BAN ¹⁸ Le sentier des justes est comme la lumière resplendissante,
Qui va grandissant jusqu'au plein jour.

KJV ¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

BAN ¹⁹ La voie des méchants est comme l'obscurité ;
Ils ne voient pas ce qui les fera trébucher.

KJV ¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

BAN ²⁰ Mon fils, sois attentif à mes paroles,
Incline tes oreilles à mes discours.

KJV ²⁰ My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

BAN ²¹ Qu'ils ne s'éloignent pas de tes yeux ;
Garde-les au fond de ton coeur.

KJV ²¹ Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

BAN ²² Car ils sont la vie de ceux qui les trouvent
Et la santé de leur corps tout entier.

KJV ²² For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

BAN ²³ Garde ton coeur plus que tout ce qui se garde,
Car c'est de lui que procèdent les sources de la vie.

KJV ²³ Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

BAN ²⁴ Ecarte de toi la fausseté de la bouche ;
Eloigne de toi la fourberie des lèvres !

KJV ²⁴ Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

BAN ²⁵ Que tes yeux regardent droit devant toi,
Et que tes paupières se dirigent droit en avant !

KJV ²⁵ Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

BAN ²⁶ Aplanis le sentier de ton pied ;
Et que toutes tes voies soient assurées !

KJV ²⁶ Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.

BAN ²⁷ Ne t'écarte ni à droite, ni à gauche ;
Détourne ton pied du mal !

KJV ²⁷ Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
